Jake's Gone Wild ....

....and back.

Jake spent last weekend going Wild with Bear Grylls at Iceland's famous glacier volcano Eyjafjallajökull and the Fimmvörduháls mountain range for the Bear's show Man vs. Wild. And it was Iceland that brought wild with a storm during the shoot.

“We can confirm that we were with Gyllenhaal and Grylls but I’d rather not comment any further on the story,” said Thór Kjartansson at the Icelandic production company True North which assisted the show’s crew on the glacier. “But they definitely got the wildest and best of Icelandic nature,” he added. (Iceland Review)

Jake traded in the Source Code duds for survival gear heading there straight from his last appearance in Rome. Guess the causal sportwear wasn't going to cut and reports were Jake of dropped by the 66°North store before heading to the mountains. It might be Jake's first time in Iceland but not his first in their famous gear.

And keeping his rep as food enthusiast he hit the Laundromat Café in Reykjavik twice before dining al fresco in the wild with Bear.

“He came here twice, on Friday night and Saturday and was totally relaxed,” commented Steinn Einar at Laundromat. (Iceland Review)

It looked like the shoot was quicker than Jake's used to doing. If he was in Reykjavik on Sat and sources say that the shoot ended Monday night, looks like it was about 48 hours worth or wild.

And where's the wild man now?

Well a few tweets are saying they've seen Jake in New York today.

Speaking of seeing:

New Eyes for the Needy tweeted a picture today of Jake in action at their silent auction and event on March 31st.

Jake told the crowd that he wears glasses when he “needs to look smart”. And revealed how he heard of New Eyes. "When I was a kid, my grandfather asked me to donate my glasses to Needy Eyes. ‘No way,’ I said, ‘I can’t part with them . . .’ I have since learned the error of my ways."

Get Framed

It's another media day for Jake at the Four Seasons, in LA. More interviews for Source Code, before he heads back on the small screen to promote the movie.

But it's not all about the work for Jake. He's gives back too. The day before Source Code opens, Jake will be on Regis and Kelly and then take some time to give back to the New Eyes for the Needy organization that Jake has been involved with for years.
Jake stopped off to the New Eye headquarters in New Jersey last spring when he took time from from his PoP schedule to meet with the staff and volunteers who's mission is to bring the gift of improved vision those in need so they to pursue a better quality of life for themselves, their families and their communities. Jake now also serves as a member of their board.

New Eyes is having its annual See For Change II event at the La Pomme in NYC on March 31st, from 6:00 - 10:30 pm. Guests are invited to bring any unwanted eyeglasses for donation, and will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, music provided by DJ Louis XIV, as well as happy hour drinks specials throughout the night. At the center of the event will be the See for Change II silent auction. The Dress? As they say "to impress."

And how is the new board member pitching in ? By kicking off the event of the night, and with that brand of enthusiasm he has, no doubt he will have everyone in the room lining up to bid on something.

Some of the items include:

  • 2 tickets to NBC's Saturday Night Live
  • Burberry accessories
  • Gift certificate to Mint Julep boutique
  • Cooking lesson with Touche de Finesse Inc. for 3 people with a professional chef
  • NYC night out on the town package: Two premium seat tickets to Broadway play "Wicked" with a gift certificate for dinner at a restaurant of the winner's choice
  • NBA jersey SIGNED by Pistons player Ben Gordon
  • 6 Month membership to Crunch Fitness
  • Dinner for 2 at Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro
  • Stay in an apartment in Paris for a week
  • Art work by Stella Michaels
  • Gift basket from Riazul tequila (including 3 bottles, a shirt and hat)
  • Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) Autographed Color Framed Photograph
  • Billy Joel Autographed Framed Album
  • Robinson Cano (w/”1st Grand Slam 9-15-05” - Special Inscription) Autographed Limited Edition Baseball w/Cherry Wood Case
Looks like there are a couple of things that Jake might bid on for himself or maybe for someone who has a birthday coming up.

Seeing 'n Believing (in it )

Back during all the PoP promotion in NYC, Jake quietly slipped away to join the bridge and tunnel crowd and visit New Jersey .

Why was Jake in Jersey? It wasn't to see Springsteen. But to see a group of people who bring better sight to those in need..

In the middle of a worldwind of promotion Jake took the time out to visit New Eyes for the Needy,in the Millburn/Short Hills area. He stopped by to visit with the staff and volunteers that work to help "purchases new eyeglasses for poor children and adults in the United States and recycles donated glasses for distribution to indigent people in developing nations worldwide."

New Eyes has made a huge impact with their work, improving the eyesight over 7 million people in the US and around the World in the 78 years since it began.

Susan Dyckman, the Executive of New Eyes for the Needy, talk about Jake's involvement "Jake has been a great advocate for New Eyes for several years now," "He has been instrumental to New Eyes’ fundraising through his help in gaining foundation grants - and with his celebrity, he has raised national awareness of New Eyes by promoting our cause in magazine profiles."

But Jake's not stopping there, it looks like he will be visiting Jersey more often.
"Jake has agreed to chair the newly formed Advisory Committee for New Eyes. We are lucky and happy to have Jake on our side- encouraging us and believing in the work we do!"

It is refreshing to see a celebrity support a charity and not use it as a promotional opportunity for themselves. It could have been just as easy for Jake use this for his own promotion, and let New Eyes' mission and purpose lost in the crush of PoP promotion.

It says something about the kind of person he is, going quietly went to meet and personally thank those who work so hard and renew his commitment to the work they are doing , and have it known much after the fact, when the focus can be placed on the charity, and not the celebrity.

Check out more pictures of Jake's visit to New Eyes.

Do make passes at....

....a boy who wears glasses.

There is no confirmation about Jake on SNL yet. But it is confirmed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that Jake and Honor Society will be on his December 3rd show. Jake's never done Jimmy's show before, but maybe he knows someone who he can have a little tet a tet with, oh wait back to Jimmy Kimmel.

Now we've always known but only seen Jake fake it for the cameras.

But now we are getting truth.

Kate at WDW had a great find yesterday, Jake's new ad for New Eyes for the Needy, that features Jake with his own glasses. (Congrats Kate!)
I’ve had really poor vision ever since I was a little kid — my mom first took me to the doctor because I was smacking into walls — and every time my prescription changed, we gave my old glasses to New Eyes. So when I started looking for a cause that I had a strong, visceral connection to, I thought of it and wanted to help bring awareness to its work. New Eyes sends donated prescription glasses to underdeveloped countries, and in the U.S. it distributes vouchers to patients for a free checkup and free glasses. There are so many people who have bad vision and don’t know it. I’ve seen kids who were on the verge of failing out of school who got glasses from New Eyes and their lives changed. It made me think, What if, when I was young, my parents hadn’t been able to afford my glasses? What would my life have been? Thankfully, my eyesight is something that I can take for granted. I want to try and help other people take theirs for granted as well.

Jake's talked about his vision before, and we've known he's a long time contact wearer, from the looks of his lenses in this ad he tell no tall tales about needing glasses. Check out the edges of of those lenses just inside the frame, he's got some thick lenses, even when they're thinned out. (Hey what can I say fellow glasses geek here who only gets past the big E on the chart and then it becomes a squint and guessing game)

Must admit I have a weakness for boys in glasses, so if he dropped those specs down, there would be a whole lot of swoonage here. Can only imagine bedhead, glasses, and a crossword puzzle .... whoamama

A tiny bit Clark Kent and alot James Dean, classic frames that will never go out of style. Jake's looking good and doing something good at the same time.

Everyone can help bring the gift of vision to others, for some of us it could be donating an old pair of our glasses to be passed on and recycled for someone else, for other it could be giving a donation in gratitude for the good vision they have naturally.
