JFC Discussion

JFC Discussion Episode 6: His Visit Day 5

Cass wakes up to a hard drive full of video footage she has no idea what to do with,
Cissy, harps at Mitch over the phone about Tina's conspicuously-timed appearance in Imperial Beach. "Every degenerate in America jerks off to his mother's videos, and she only showed up to make money off Shaunie's being in the papers," Shaun who heard her can't take any more and, plops one of Tina's shrink-wrapped films in front of his grandmother, takes off on his skateboard. Cissy crazy with guilt, in looks for him landing at surf shop, explaining to Kai what happened and recruiting her help. Kai leaves to search for Shaun at a skate park, but not before telling Cissy he's probably upset because he didn't get to see his mother when she came to the house. "Whoever you don't drive away runs away on his own,

John explains that justice must be served to the "Vato" who stabbed him and tells Joe the police should be involved, which leads them to Bill's. John starts channeling Bill's wife, Lois, which sets Bill off. Seeing her through John he then agrees to help.

Party at the Snug with Shuffleboard, with Butchie, Barry, Dickstein and Ramon. Freddy and Palaka are battling about Palaka recently hurt wrist. Dr. Smith arrives on his bicycle, checking in with Butchie and taking Palaka for x-rays. But what's a party without Cissy, who shows up telling Butchie she wants Tina to see Shaunie. Cissy pulls into the parking lot and herds Butchie into his room. "I want Tina to see Shaun," she tells him, feeling guilty about her outburst that morning. Butchie calls Tina about meeting Shaun, a proves he needs telephone skills, and ends up bursting into tears after the call.

Joe John and Bill go to where go got stabbed, while Cissy finds her missing gun in Kai's trailer. Meanwhile John in the van, "Better she tries to kill me and fails than tries to kill herself," before abruptly passing out. Standing in front of her kitchen window with the gun in her hand, Cissy is startled to notice John standing in her backyard.

In a television infomercial voice, John asks, "Are you sitting in your kitchen on Seventh Street thinking of blowing off your head with your gun you got back from Kai's trailer?" and John pops in front of Cissy's window as Cissy breaks down.

Kai finds Shaun convinces him to come home. And Tina and Cissy talk tuna, and Shaun gets to spend time to know his mom.

Everyone drifts to the Snug and the moment John give his sermon on the mount. "The man at the wall makes a word on the wall from the circle and line. The word on the wall hears my Father. The zeroes and ones make the Word in Cass's camera."

Everyone draws around John, some more aware of him than others, Bill and Freddy make Cops and Robbers more of a band than a reality and John ends his message with, "You will not note my Father's Word, nor remember Cass's camera – but you will not forget what we did here."

Back in Joe's van, still parked by the border road, John wakes up.

Ok so what did you think? Were questions answered? Were others create? Are we finally seeing why Cisssy the way she is? What about John? What is he? Are the more clues or more confusion? What about the speech, what did it all mean?

"Don't Even Go There"

Comet Hale-Bopp's the closest it will be to Earth until 4397. Titantic crashes into theaters and captures the box office. Tinky Winky was working the look. Scotland gets its own Parliament. The Notebook is just a book. No one knew what a Lewinsky was yet. Diana goes too soon. Ellen comes out. Hong Kong gets handed back. Biggie's shot. Clooney shows what happens to superheros when it gets nippy.

What year is it? The same year that Love and Other Drugs takes place.

Welcome back to 1997.

And what does that mean? According to this notice about more casting in Pittsburgh, it means that those coming to the casting should style their makeup normally but dress in business casual attire and "recommends girls wear ’90s hairstyles with a lot of body — like Jennifer Aniston from the sitcom 'Friends.'"

Does she mean like this?

Does that mean they are going to make Jake be a Chandler... Bing! Well he did live with a duck, its not a goose but close.

Will they put Jake back in the blue blazer, tan pants with the club tie combo? Jake in Dockers? Will Anne be doing the Amanda Woodward (Melrose Place) power suit. Hey you know they could create a little 90210 scene playing on the TV. You know there's this guy who kind of looks like Brian Austin Green...

But thinking about movies you got think about soundtracks. Will there be a montage to Chumbawumba's Tubthumping? (Wait that's Cialis) Maybe Hanson's MmmmBop instead? Some Pearl Jam?

Would you buy Viagra from this man? Would you need Viagra with this man, looking like this? Damn.

Damn, damn,... damn.

JFC Discussion reminder: The rescheduled discussion is this Friday at 5pm EST through Saturday. The discussion is on Episode 6: His Visit Day 5. This was one of the best episode of the series and really showed Austin's craft as an actor. Hope you can join us to discuss.

If the River was Whiskey

Great minds do think alike and as soon as I saw this promo picture of Austin from the OTH promo over weekend I knew what I wanted to do today. And found out I had the same thought as Spooky over at Austin Nichols Journal, to pop Austin into to fav pictures or backgrounds. And she did a great job. The picture reminded my of paperdolls of I had, there was always one handsome boy in the box. Makes me think the grown up version will have two. So you will see Austin the paperdoll pop up in some interesting places , Whiskey with a twist lets say, in the near future.

Speaking of One Tree Hill. As we know from Austin's interview that things are going to get messy between Julian and Brooke in the future. But for tonight, in "What are you Willing to Lose" it's bliss with for a bit, while they move in together. But Julian's Dad (Gregory Harrison) is back and might throw a monkeywrench (or you Brits, a spanner) in the works. But knowing Papa Baker has to be about business, so will that mean a project he wants Julian to do? Brooke picks the new face for Clothes over Bros, and it might be she just picked her poison (for her love life) in doing so. And the question still begs to be answered what the hell is Julian going to in Tree Hill? Become Tree Hill's resident indie producer? Surf? Skinny dip the day away?

Now must give a huge shout out to Vesperlynd who helps Spooky at AJN, cause girl, you did good, really really good.

What did she do? She found some new pics of Austin, from a photo shoot from Davis Factor. Congrats on the AJN exclusive ladies. I will give a sneak peek of them , but suggest you head over there to check them all out. They're too good not to too.

Wet tee? Austin's must have spent a spring break or two at Padre Island, cause he's got the pose and the look down pat.
Just like a cowboy casting his long shadow in the sparse front, so does Austin in this reinvention of a classic western pose with a nod to 80's LA. And check out those boots! The good guys always wore white, but it was the ones in the black that made things interesting.

Blue Bird of Happ....

Hey whatcha doing?

Just going of the sales kits and literature that drug reps use.

Really getting into the part, aren't you.

Well I need to be prepared, research is a whole part of that.

You didn't?

Didn't what?

You did!

What did I do? Damn it's hot, my face is all flushed.

You know what you did.

Did what? Hold on I need to find my homeopathic medicine for headaches.

You did!

Did what?

You took one. The warm, flushed face, the headache, next you'll tell me you everything is kind of looking blueish. Why do it when I'm not there?

I don't know what you're talking about. And if you were here I wouldn't need it would I? ; )

UPDATE: JFC Discussion for Episode 6 : "His Visit, Day Five", will start next Friday September 24th starting at 5:00pm thru Sat September 25th.

The Snug Harbor Motel hosts a cookout; John makes Cissy a special offer; Tina makes tunafish for Shaun; Bill hears from his wife; Cass raids the mini-bar; Freddy plays the saxophone. This episode really highlights John as he gives his big speech and really showcases Austin's acting. Hope you can join us for the discussion.

Styling and profiling

Looks like OTH is following in JFC's footsteps. Sometime unbelievable storylines. Some actors you wonder if this is their first job. They have sand, surf. And redemption (well for Dan)

But there is one thing you might not have notice that OTH if copying from JFC. Doing tight profile shots with Austin in the foreground. And with such a classic profile who wouldn't.

And its not just filmmakers, photographers too, knowing that a strong profile makes great pictures.

Everyone has their best side. What's his?

And just had to put up one of Julian on the Red Carpet

Speaking of JFC, last week mentioned about resuming out JFC discussion, with Episode 6 "His Visit: Day 5" for this Friday, and didn't get much response, are people still interested? Do you need more time? Would a later date work better?

Out of the Blue

Who says Jake's the only one to flash the blues? Austin seems to love this one as he made sure that it has been seen in so many pictures. Proud as a peacock or would that be Goose?

Premiers

and of course Lakers games

When he resurfaced after months.

and for photoshoots

and now just out of the blue?

September is definitely back to school and with that OMG needs to get back to a few things. As we have being moving through JFC - yes a a snails pace - we have reached the half way point and its too good not finish.

So on that note the JFC discussion would resume this month with Episode 6: His Visit Day 5. Which is one of the best episodes of the entire series. We will discussing it September 18-19th

A great week to have Austin on the beach Monday night on the OTH season opener and finishing the week up with him back on Imperial Beach. It will be also a great way to compare his work, and his acting from his two most recent series.

Something you maybe haven't seen before, 2400 lbs of bird seed being sent to HBO to Save JFC

Bird seed, huh.

All things connect.

OMG's JFC Discussion

Episode 5: His Visit Day Four

John goes with Cass, Tina shows up in town, Cissy gets crazy and gets a gun, Bill and Zippy share a moment in which Zip tells Bill he needs to be a bud to John, Bill hates being bossed around by a parrot, Shaun is up to what most teenage boys would do with a Diet Coke.

What did you think about John and Cass? What about he told her to do? Did you get it? Did she ? What about the street fair? Was there significance to that?

Does Cissy have the ground to stand on about her feelings for Tina or is she just projecting because of Butchie?

Link and Tina? Was that to mirror Kai and Butchie in some way?
What do you think of Kai and Butchie? And did that come from John? Is Links problem in the hotel from Cass or from John and a fit a concious? Is Tina as a tough as everyone thinks she is? Did she actually help Cissy when she let Shaun on the doorstep? What do you think Shaun thinks all about the women that are so involved in his life?

Did you miss Dickstein and company from the episode? Think the Mexican wrestlers made up for them?

Again the theme that Milch is expressing - Don't listen to the words, watch the actions. Any thoughts about that?

Favorite scenes? Moments? Quotes? What about John's new duds? And what's the deal with the turtle?

Know Your Neighborhood

OTH Season Six is ovah (that would be over for outside of Boston) but Season Seven will be in production in July and Austin no longer just a extended guest star but a season regular, so it's time for him to get know a little more about his neighborhood, ok well OMG to, Austin's lived in Wilmington before when he was on Surface.

And while famous people might come to work in Wilmington, Wilmington has one of their own who became one of the most famous people in the world.

Sneakers. Clothes. Underwear spokesman. Minor league baseball player. McDonalds Pitchman. Gold medalist. Worked with Bugs Bunny. One of the biggest reasons Nike is still in business. Everyone wants to be like ... Mike. Even Beckham when his came to play in the US, wanted to be 23.

Michael Jordan.

Born in Brooklyn NY but raised in Wilmington NC Michael Jordan is the greatest player in the history of basketball. Even this Celtic fan admits it, but would Jake? Who might say his heart has to say Magic or Kareem of the Lakers, but you know his head is saying Jordan. Even Magic is looking at him in amazement.

Sure he's from Wilmington, but that doesn't mean he has an OTH connection. But his Airness. He is part-owner and Managing Member of Basketball Operations of the Charlotte Bobcats. (Nathan's team)

You wonder if Austin could score some tickets. You know he could say he played basketball. Hey it got him the part on Glory Road. ; )

Now the results of our movie club poll:

TDAT came in first. And Hopeful TB's suggestion (awesome one) it would be interesting to compare it to Star Trek, as well as have discussion about the movie in general.

Movie Club will be Friday night (5:00pm EST) - Saturday - June 12-13th.

And because summer means extra special treats - a second movie club on June 19-20th for a LGBT movie. The number one pick for the LGBT movie was Big Eden.

Hope they you can join OMG for one or both of June's movie clubs.

And don't forget JFC Discussion Episode 5: His Visit - Day 4, this Friday night and Saturday.

And on this day, whatever our feelings or politics,
we stop and recognize those who have served and sacrificed.
Thank you.

Happy Memorial Day!

Just Add Water

It's the start to Memorial Day Weekend here in the U.S. and the unofficial start to summer. So how can this Austin Friday not be about something that totally summer and totally the tall Texan.

Austin's got serious game when it comes to waterskiing, more than anyone else in Hollywood. And the studios are all about doing remakes, saves money, guaranteed audience.

So would happen if his management group sat around to brainstorm how to find a movie to remake and pitch it.

1953 - Easy To Love
You know find some hot swimmer who wants to break into movies, hey what about Olympian Amanda Beards in the Esther Williams part, Austin as Van Johnson. Romcom on skis. We could get it cheap and totally redo. Mark that. Get someone to work on a spec.

1967 - Clambake
Elvis - millionaire's son who trades identities with an water-skiing instructor to learn about life and love. Austin loves to do the hair switcharoo. And it has motorcycles. And he could get a chance to sing on film. You know musicals are big. Mark that one and get a spec.

1978 - Jaws 2
No way. Part too small and a waterskiing party going missing where does that go for him for a part. Pass.

1983 - Jaws 3-D
Hey more screen time that Jaws 2. Ocean themed amusement park under attack from a great white shark. Stinkaroo and it was in 3-D and it couldn't even sell. Bad ju-ju don't go there. Pass.

1987 - Delta Fever
"Against a background of competitive waterskiing, a young man is prodded by his family, friends and girlfriend into adult responsibility." You know this one could work. 20 years since it came out, the biggest star in it was Leif Garrett and Uncle Jesse from Duke's of Hazard. Hard to find on VHS. We could rework it and this has legs. Get going I want to see something in my email by the end of the day on this one.

1988 - The Great Outdoors
Who wants to remake this one? Fat guy on waterskis is too funny. Leave it alone. Suck My Wake. Classic.

1989 - License To Kill (James Bond)
Could redo scene were Bond waterskis behind the plane throws out the pilot and takes over. Austin does look good in a tux. But have to do a low budget straight to DVD ripoff. Still mark it a maybe.

1989 - Weekend at Bernie's
Dead guy with a smirk waterskiing. Got admit it sold big. Could we rework that he's not dead but in a coma? A comedy and Austin, something different. Work on it and get back to me.

1992 - Meatballs 4
Sorry no can do. Corey Feldman Waterskis. No one can match that. No one can ever match the majesty of the Coreys and Waterskis. Damn I can't even say that with a straight face, and I bs for a living. Pass.

1992 - The Goofy World of Sports
Hmmm. Ears, Waterskiis, Disney. Hey. Don't tell Austin I said that. Pass.

1994 - My Father The Hero
He could play the guy Ben put him on skis. They could age the daughter a bit but would it mess with the story too much? How young can Austin play nowadays? They used some waterskiing champion Hazelwood(?) for stunts. Hey Austin could save them some cash and do his own and be the advisor for the old guy dad. Who could do Depardieu's part? Holy crap did you see that Kathryn Heigel was the daughter!

2005 - Cheaper By The Dozen 2

Too new but he could get a guest spot on the Bonnie Hunt show. Reminder: call CW and work something for OTH Austin and date for an interview on her show.

JFC Discussion - Votes are in and it's next weekend May 29-30.
So get the DVD's, look online, borrow from the library or from friends and join us for discussion about Episode 5: His Visit Day 4.

Remember a great resource for JFC - is Calamity Dan's JFC site.

OMG Movie Club
It was a tie between the June 12th-13th, and the 19th-20th, so using the old adage the sooner the better, OMG Movie Club will be June 12th -13th.

But still need to know what you want to discuss. One more time to vote. From the polls that people wanted a LGBT themed movie but we also got a few other suggestions for movie titles. The poll is open till Sunday morning EST, and you can vote once per day.

Happy Austin Friday.
Happy Memorial Day weekend.
Here's to the start to unofficial start of summer.
Any big plans for yours?

Mid Week Movie Break

There is nothing like slipping into a cool theater on a warm summer day and checking out the newest movies of the summer , but the same could be said for movie club too. It has been a while since we have a movie club and it's time to take a little break during the lazy days of summer and get back to a little fun.

The first question is when?

And then what to watch ?

Give us your suggestions, titles and comments. We want to know what you want to watch and discuss. Polls are open from now until 6:00 EST - Friday May 22nd and you can vote once per day. ( And TDAT? Didn't think I was going somewhere with TDAT yesterday : ) )

What do you want to watch?
What haven't you seen?

I need to check my movie journal.
He's kidding right?
Nope

And is it's been so long John but you're not forgotten. We haven't forgotten about John from Cincinnati discussion, we have just been stretching it out to savor the ten episodes we have.

The next episode for discussion Episode 5 : His Visit Day 4

Porn stars (Tina) appear from the East (The Valley) seeking the son; Everybody (or just Tina) run 'cause Cissy has a gun (in a shoebox); Cass tries to work but between the good (Butchie) the bad (Cissy) or ugly ; and our boy John spends the day with Hare Krishnas and hugging it out with masked Mexican wrestlers.

OMG's JFC Discussion

Keeping yesterday's literary Austin open and while we look at a more mystical Austin, ok his character in this one. But can you imagine John reading Ayn Rand? Or Milch 's rewrite of The Fountainehead? Holy!

Episode 4: "His Visit Day 3"

Day 3 starts with John in the empty field looking at the skeleton of the structure in Mexico, taking us back to Day 1. Is it me or does anyone else see a connection of one of the greatest films ever there?

Not getting a bone (with Kai) he gets taken for a ride - while walking he gets picked up by a van load of hoodlums. And John being John scares them and they stab him and leave him for dead along the side of the road. What did you think about that scene? Is there a significance that it happened on that day?

What about John and Vietnam Joe and John's healing? He has Joe put Joe's hand over John's heart, and this somehow draws some cosmic energy from Cass? What does that mean about Cass? Cass' vision? Her transformation from "tricking" with Mitch for Linc to finding her spirituality through John healiing. And John's transfiguration in other places? And what does Scarlett O'Hara have to do with any of this?

What do you think about Linc doing the dishes for Cissy who would do anything to get Shaun, but has a history of pimping, first Butchie surfing, and now Cass? But that's after Linc and Dr. Smith have a little interaction showing truest of intentions about Shaun and his miracle.

And Butchie and Kai? Butchie and Kai seek out John they recruit Bill's help hunting down John. Promising to put word out with his friends in the department, Bill takes control of the search, dividing Imperial Beach into quadrants. But find something else besides John or is it because of John?

What about Bill and Zippy and Bill's rant about ending his relationship with the Yost family, but Zippy has the final say, determineing he should make peace with Freddy. Bringing coffee and doughnuts Bill tells Freddy, "My bird Zippy conveyed to me, despite the obvious dissimilarities between us, we should become friends." Freddy tells him " I got a lizard back home, changes shapes." Bill nods, "Chameleon, they're called."
Mitch is back at the Yost compound. Butchie and Kai are entwined, John is preparing to make Cass see God too, then trouble shows up at the motel in a Mustang.

What bout Dr. Smith? His resignation? The Avon Lady? What about Ramon, Dickstein and Barry?

Any favorite quotes? Did Bill win for best quote for a couple of his greatest of the series? And what about that Milch swear jar, overflowing yet?
