Sunday Night Supper Club

It totally came out of the blue.  I got a text Sunday from a long time friend that said,

"I'm in a restaurant in Koreatown, and you favorite actor is here"

Now my friend knows I'm a big Jake fan.  To the extent of the whole OMG thing - no,  but he knows I've been a fan for years.  He never texts or even mentions about the people he meets in the course of the production work he does so getting a text from him about Jake  I know is the real deal.

And then it began:

me: Wow. Who's he with?
him: Some guy
me: Tall curly hair great smile?
him: We're not hanging out together, K.  :)
him: He does have curly hair though.
him : From what I see.
me: That sounds like that's his boyfriend [I am not trying to explain the husband to via text] Austin Nichols who's on Ray Donovan and Walking Dead.

a couple minutes later
him: It is Nichols

There was no way for my friend to get a picture without being obnoxious, and obvious,  but the sighting reminds me back in the day when Jake and Austin would go out for Sunday Night Suppers at Jar.

And together in LA  -  Some things never change.

Comfy Cozy

Don't call him Clapton  because he's no slow hand.  Jake has been getting around LA just fine and it looks like filming is really over for Nightcrawler now.

Monday night Jake attened the 2013 Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.  And it was just all for fun?  Nope  He had some work to do presenting.

Could  this be award show training?  Or is he now going back for all those cheese puffs he passed on for the last 2 months?

And today found Jake getting some Jewish Deli comfort food at Nate ‘n Al restaurant.

Talk about comfy Jake's got a soft and cozy cashmere sweater draped over his hurt paw.  Is it a little TLC ?   Or a little cover from those prying eyes that are trying to get a better look at it? Or that he didn't want any one to see what he was bringing home in the take home container.

One thing is didn't want to hide, is his big chain. It's back and you  can't miss that.

How New York of You

Last weekend Jake attended the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Art + Film gala,  and to Jake it was more like New York West.

He told the Wall Street Journal " 'It’s a very New York party,' observed the slimmer than usual actor Jake", as he declined a cheese puff from a cater waiter. ( Just like those upper East Side ladies who lunch, but don't eat)

“At least a lot of the New York crowd is here.”

Another observation of Jake from the event was that he didn't seem to mind walking the red carpet alone. But he wasn't alone in that club, it seemed like he had another member in the solo guy club in Leo DeCaprio, who did the  same thing.
You'd think it if was a New York crowd wouldn't your "cooking mentee" fit right in? If you have a model this is one of those places you'd think you'd want to bring them. To walk a long narrow walkway and stand among beautiful things. They don't need to even practice.  Guess not. But know fear Jake ran into old friends.

Guess that mentor/mentee thing is only a one way deal, because Jakey a good model will tell you never have the base foundation on you face darker than the color of your hands.

The event  honored Martin Scorsese and David Hockney,  is quickly becoming one of the best parties of the year in LA. Which is quite the feat with all the parties, premieres and events that happen in LA.  But it was all for a good cause raising over $4 million for LACMA’s film initiatives and future exhibitions.

Disappear into Thin Air

As he has been doing this month, Jake was filming earlier this week in LA, while the pictures were dated Oct 21, it looks like they might have been in the wee small hours of Monday, since Jake spent Monday evening at the Hollywood Film Awards.

From this past week there have been a few more clues about Jake's role.  The characters name is Lou, his a videographer chasing stories across the night in LA, and it could be more likely that he is an independent reporter out chasing the story, to sell it back to news outlets.
Definitely dramatic, Nightcrawler looks like a dark story of the even darker side of the night in City of Angels.  Lou, gaunt and thin, might be hungry for a story (and most definitely a sandwich) but there is more than hungry that is eating the man from the inside out.

Night Time is the Right Time

Ray Charles might have sang that the night time is the right time to be with the one you love, but for Jake it's the right time to be making another movie.

Jake is back in front of the cameras currently shooting Nightcrawler under cover of  darkness.  Twitter sightings have confirmed Jake and Co. are shooting around  LA.

And add one more person to that a cast and crew and it's one Mad Man.

Mad Men's  Kevin Rahm aka Ted, is swapping 'careers' and will play a news channel editor. He joins Jake, Bill Paxton and Rene Russo in the indie thriller.

Just a plot refresher Nightcrawler follows "a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. freelance crime journalism."

A short shoot, the film co-produced by Jake with writer/director Dan Gilroy, will wrap by the end of the month.

Jake might like to be in front of the camera for the story but he's not a big fan of being photographed while he's working, but a lucky few have captured him hard at work.

And we must say Kudos Jakey - Prisoners remains in the #1 spot in the UK for the second straight week.

The Big Busy Day

It sounds like title of a little kid's book.  But this is no child's play.  It was definitely a busy day for Jake.

Jake taped his appearance on not one but two shows today, and fit in a premiere to boot, and that's not including any other print interviews, meetings, or just the day to day things that Jake does.

Earlier today Jake headed over to Culver City to tape the Queen Latifah show that will air next week.

By 5:00 he was heading to visit buddy Jimmy Kimmel to tape tonight's show.

From there Jake headed to the LA premiere of Prisoners. (Maybe that certain self-confessed cinephile got a chance to enjoy it tonight)

Jake continues to get great reviews for both his films with Denis.  With more Oscar buzz  from  critics.  And coming off the success of Enemy there is a now a bidding war for the US distribution of the film.

With only one week left before the release in the US, it is an all out PR push for Prisoners. Look for Jake to be back in NY this weekend and busy busy busy right up until 20th.  Then it's back to LA and back to work again on the streets of LA.

Whale of a Tale

Jake's been know to throw out a few Red Herrings over the years. But he might have been caught by the Net. this time

Maybe he just wanted to celebrate Shark Week with his favorite Shark Week Fan at home?  Whatever the ever the reason, it looks like a fish taco in LA might have been what snagged him up.

Suddenly after just being "seen" in NYC the day before.  Jake popped up and got "caught" strolling through LAX  yesterday and by nightfall was seen at the Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros' show.

And then  today was seen out and about shopping and driving the truckster around,  and almost ran into former whisker, Reese who was probably circling the same paps for them to catch her fresh new do.

Maybe he thought well if I got found in LA,  I'm going to get seen in LA.  All over LA.

And it looks like Jake had a case of the hungries while he was doing it.

Food.  It feels like I haven't eaten in two months that's for sure.
Organic apple sauce or a healthy carob soy pudding snack pack?

Jake looks like he's trying to eat all the good stuff before he goes home and has to share his snacks with Big and little alike.

 Granola Time?

 Some more for the road:

Guess he's stocking up for when he has to journey east again.

The family truckster can handle hauling from  little to big - cargo of course. ; )

Is Jake having a Way Back Moment after realize that he passed on a good thing? (The Way Back that is)
