Common Threads

Austin and Despicable Me star Miranda Cosgrove are teaming up with Oceana to celebrate the group's mission and successes in protecting the oceans and restoring marine life at the Marion Davies Guest House located next to Santa Monica Beach next Friday, May 16th.

Austin and Miranda will be serving as host and will be sharing their experience working with Oceana and encouraging others to become involved in joining the group in protecting and restoring the oceans and water ways.

Nautica, a corporate sponsor of Oceana, is teaming up with LA Confidential Magazine for the 2nd Annual Nautica Oceana Beach House party.

This is not the first time Austin has teamed up with Oceana, just this past November Austin was out to show his support for the environmental group.

Back then OMG pointed out that it seemed like a family connection with Oceana.

The environmental group merged with Jake's longtime family friend Ted Danson's water conservation and protection cause, America's Ocean Campaign back in 2002. Jake had supported America's Ocean Campaign and continued his support with Oceana. And years of supporting Oceana, Austin is now lending his name to the cause.

Just like Global Green, it is another cause that guys become involved in supporting.

Maybe Jake will get back to his Cali roots and show off his surfing skills for Surfrider in the future.

Do you think he can do the advanced handstand though?

But it's not all good causes that link these two.

In the past Austin traveled to Israel and many wonder what was his interest in the country, people and culture. Could it be that he wanted to understand more about Jake's heritage?

And then Austin's tweet today is another example thread to Jake

Novice Buddist Monks in Thailand - AUS10

No doubt he has more pictures to share with Jake who majored in Buddhist studies at Columbia.

Getting the Dirt

It is fitting that the guys met on a movie that addressed the issue of global environment.

The guys have both been involved both land and sea.

And while Jake hits the garden Austin was talking trash - well about composting. Hmmm wonder where he was composting.

Both have done their part in helping protect and preserve and pass it on to the future.

Waiting His Turn

A little bit more about Austin's night at Global Green. Green Blog Network said "the night began with an intimate cocktail reception where guests mingled, enjoyed organic spirits and perused displays ranging from green building supplies to exotic vacations."

Five awards were presented, including Ed Norton presenting and award to Austin and Sophia for the work for The Gulf in a ceremony that was followed by an organic dinner.

The event raise over $400,000 for Global Green's initiatives. Who else was there? Good Morning America's weatherman Sam Champion was the MC the evening. Arianna Huffington, Entourage's Adrien Grenier, Heatherette designer Richie Rich, and had to a fav for Austin, Angela Bower..oops.. Judith Light.

This picture of the awards (from Green Blog Network) was just calling for the top ten treatment.

Top Ten Things Austin's thinking about while waiting for his turn to speak.

10. No second banana jokes.

9. Damn, why didn't I bring my Who's the Boss DVDs?

8. I'm hungry ....are they starting to serve the salad now?!? Wait do I have a burrito in my pocket?

7. I could just slip behind the screen and it'll take 20 minutes before anyone knows I gone.

6. Island... hot rock... iguana....Night of the Iguana....oh I should get that on Netflix.

5. Have I heard this story before? Probably. This version? Maybe not.

4. Why did Ed get to wear a sweater and I had to wear a suit. Harrumph. I couldn't even wear my boots.

3. This is going to take a while, I'll just work on my quads while I wait.

2. "I come from a land down under ....Where women glow and men plunder?...Where beer does flow and men chunder?.... Where Jake is now I wonder?"

and the number one thing Austin's thinking

1. Nobody puts Austy in the corner.

Happy Austin Friday.

Banana Grabber in the Big Apple

A whirlwind kind of day for Austin yesterday, in NYC to promote Gasoline Rainbows and to receive an award from Global Green for his effort in helping in The Gulf Crisis.

First off and interview with WPIX talking about the effort, the show and his co-star.

Next up Wendy Williams where he did charmed the staff and carried the bags. And was in the dressing room watching as Wendy discussed the Jakemance/Fakemance as one of her hot topics. And watched Wendy interview Sophia.

Did that make him grab the banana?

Or an momentary Arrested Development moment?

Michael Bluth: "I guess it would just be a guy who, you know, grabs bananas and runs.
Or a banana that grabs things. I don't know.
Why would a banana grab another banana?
I mean those are the kind of questions I don't want to answer."

And then last evening Austin was honored with an award at the Global Green. He "thanked bp for bringing us all together and while cursing its very existence" and twitter for helping to get the word out.

At first it looked like he was making a statement about giving up products and blowdryers to save the environment, but on closer inspection. Someone got a haircut. (He also got the shoe memo)

Wait not him. Well yeah he got a haircut.

Him

You think it was holiday haircut special?

Tonight on the Crazy Tree

It's a lot a waterworks and wind. Oh yeah and storm outside.

Darkness on the Edge of Town (Guess one of the writers watched the Springsteen documentary) It's high drama for the last new episode for 2010. There the back 11 episodes they are saving and stretching in 2011.

Julian finds his balls and fights with BrookeDavis(TM)about why they hell they are living in Tree Hill. (well maybe because the show is about Tree Hill, just a guess) BrookeDavis(TM)hits back with the you wanted my business to fail and storms out into... wait for it A STORM! Taking Julian's pair with her as she heads out and he turns to his JBra ways on the phone for her to come home. But what happens that has him running into the storm to save her?

Bikini Quinn reconsiders her options after her schooling with Dan TheScaryMan Scott on how to kill someone and not get caught. She's got bigger problems like a leaky roof, not to mention the psycho who's in her house and dragging her out from under the bed. Oh yeah Jamie is in the rain with the Real Housewife of Tree Hill worried about Aunt Brooke. (well someone has to besides Julian)

Behind the Scenes: Austin "feels like a Summer's Day"

Funny with Julian I would have said Summer's Eve.

It's not an iguana on a hot rock. (see video) But here's a Hanu-Gator to celebrate.

Happy Hanukkah!

24 Seven

One Tree Hill Season 7 is back for a full 24 episodes. And it premieres September 10th on the CW.

And OTH has 24/7 a whole different way. They've jumped on the Twitter train with an official OTH Twitter site. From the tweets things have been quiet since filming wrapped on Friday. Maybe there was some down time for everyone this weekend.

Now what would a mystery man do with a free weekend? Maybe the shadow knows?

Now back in Wilmington, you wonder if Austin gets as worked up about driving around there as he does in LA. (Posting this video again here, since it might have gotten missed over the weekend.)

Gotta ask can you moon and scooter at the same time? And is it me or does he lose the point somewhere in the middle of what he is saying? Or is he trying to make sure he doesn't say too much?

That Red Carpet can spook ya. Wonder if crowds do that too?

Just a few fans came out to see them film the first scene of Season 7 of OTH. You think there were crowds like this for JFC?

Not sure they're getting crowds like that in DC, but you never know Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd are popular guys.

More Smaller World - Father's Day - Day Late but not a Dollar Short edition.

Yeah Jake and Maggie have shared some on screen dads. But did you realize they shared a movie dad with Kirsten as well?

Holmes Osborne.

Holmes played Kirsten's dad in Bring It On the year before he was Daddy Darko.

One little thing...

Eric Care's children's book, The Tiny Seed is the story of how one little seed makes a difference

In autumn, a strong wind blows flower seeds high in the air and carries them far across the land. One by one, many of the seeds are lost -- burned by the sun, fallen into the ocean, eaten by a bird. But some survive the long winter and, come spring, sprout into plants, facing new dangers -- trampled by playing children, picked as a gift for a friend. Soon only the tiniest seed remains, growing into a giant flower and, when autumn returns, sending its own seeds into the wind to start the process over again.

It just takes one little thing to make a difference.

Sometimes you don't realize that doing one little thing can make an impact on our Earth. Change your light bulbs, start a garden - even if it's a container garden, bring reusable shopping bags with you, use a reusable water bottle rather than throw away bottles, recycle things, reuse things reduce. Everyone can do one little thing each day to make a difference in the world. Not only to make the earth better, but also to make the lives for people who live on it better. One little seed.

Happy Earth Day

Jake has been a long supporter of environmental causes and does lot of little things to help the environment along with bigger ways of supporting environmental seasons. This year is no different, little things like buying and supporting local farmers, having a garden, and using a reusable water bottles to the more public things like working and support Global Green's “National Green Schools” initiative, and again continuing his involvement with LA Conservation Corps.

And you can't forget that first big blockbuster action film, with the earth at the environment's mercy. Although there are plot hole and points of logic that don't make any sense when you think about them, got to say I'm glad he made the it. Why? The environment? Ok I should, but something little less globally minded but because it was one little thing, ok, not so little, definitely not, that spun his world, and Austin's too.

one little thing

The History of Earth Day
The original mission Earth Day, proposed by John McDonnell, a peace activist who interest in the Earth came from working in a plastic plants, was to celebrate Earth's life and beauty and to alert earthlings to the need for preserving and renewing the threatened ecological balances upon which all life on Earth depends. He proposed an Earth Day in 1969 but new he need political clout to help make it happen. That's where Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI) came in. He reportedly saw the damage from a major oil spill and got fired up, and went Congress to make Earth Day official. US President Richard Nixon tried to score some points, not that easy during the Vietnam war and a recession,by announcing an "Environmental Quality Council" and a "Citizens' Advisory Committee on Environmental Quality." But people didn't buy it. They said it was just for show. So Nixon signed legislation called the National Environmental Protection Act, which gave birth to the EPA as we know it now right before what most people consider the first Earth Day, which was April 22, 1970. In 1990, Earth Day went Global(you know Earth and Global -- makes sense, why it took 20 years....ask them).

Starting today, it begins the year of celebration and activism leading to the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Here's hoping that everyone does one little thing each day during this year to celebrate the Earth and the gift we have.
