Back to Glory

Southpaw is Jake's first sports themed movie, but it's not the first sports movie for  OMG.

Austin's Glory Road wins that title.

While Glory Road pops up on TV on the occasional weekend, it's been a while for OMG to take a look back.

Glory Road is the story of based on a true story surrounding the events leading to the 1966 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. Don Haskins, head coach of Texas Western College, coached a team with an all-black starting lineup, a first in NCAA history.

Austin played Jerry Armstrong

Armstrong graduated Texas Western and "returned with his wife, Mary, to Missouri where he became assistant coach at Trenton [MO]. He later coached teams at King City, Richmond and Mansfield, winning more than 300 games in a 21-year career. He left coaching to become Mansfield’s principal, retiring after 30 years in education."

Parkland opens tomorrow in the US, and to celebrate how about a peek at that Tall Texan in action.

 Oh yeah.....

Looking every bit the upstanding Secret Service agent on duty.

But then again Austin works in every decade.

Thanks to Prairie Girl for the fab photo find of Secret Service Agent Nichols.

On the Road and On Watch

Austin tweeted this yesterday:

Street named in El Paso, TX for a great film I worked on. If you havn't seen it, take a look. Glory Road.  -AUS10

Now the question was Austin in El Paso, or  did his brother-in law who was send him the pic as a shout out to Austin's movie?

Why wonder?  Well Rowdy was in was in El Paso on Wednesday promoting his movie Mexican Sunrise.

Austy,

Glory Road is a great movie.

But bud - look at you then and now.

You've come a long way baby.

And while it is an Austin Friday, it was also a big day for his fella too.

Jake was on Anderson today

And on the ALMA Awards

And he has one more stop tonight on Jimmy Fallon.

Speaking of stops -  Austin tweeted a picture of the shuttle flying over LA today.  So the question is, is Cali his latest stop or is it just a little more Rowdy and friends adding to duck duck Goose cover and he's on the other coast (as in East).

Just something to think about and watch what happens.

Friday Flash Back

An oldie but some may have not seen this one.

Check out Austin hook'em horns on the red carpet and oh yeah... Big Blue up close

Glory Road had it's premieres (It's Bruck, he loves to have move than one) in January 2006, and Austin was working on Deadwood. By the end of April he had a three year holding deal with HBO and Deadwood was cancelled before the last season aired in June that year, and Milch was already working on creating JFC.

And of course we know that Milch already had Austin in mind for John.

Austin talked about it on his interview with Jimmy Kimmel (which is sadly gone from YouTube)

Jock -u l(i)ar-ity

We know that Austin was seen at the batting cages filming in a scene with Julian and Jamie. Looking over Julian's activities, it doesn't look like he was a close to being head of the gym class.

But Austin that's a different story. He might have some game.

Then again he might have said that he could play when he got hired for Full Count.

He seems to have habit for doing that.

Are you saying I lie?

Ok give you that.
It's not like I lied about a breaking anything...
ok well, fine.

Austin seems to be able to pick up any sport thrown at him.

And course mastering cycling on:

2 wheels

1 wheel

and no wheels

Pictures: kaitlyn, ANJ, IHJ, OMG

Programming note:
Stand Up 2 Cancer will be on all the major networks in the U.S. 8:00pm Eastern/Pacific Time.

Good Luck to Austin as he participates in Surfrider's Celebrity Expression tomorrow in Malibu.

Sister Sister

Jake and Austin have co-starred with some of the same people, Jake's worked with his own sister, but did know you they've co-starred with sisters?

The Deschanel Sisters.

Most will remember Zooey in Good Girl as the Cheryl who worked at the Rodeo Round Up, and her overhead announcements , make over tips, and her unique way of saying thank you to the customers.

And then of course the musical routine she and Jake did for Sundance.

But did you know that Emily Deschanel was in Glory Road with Austin? She played Mary Haskins, Coach Don Haskin's (Josh Lucas) wife.

We know that Austin loved Zooey's latest movie 500 Days of Summer from his recent . Wonder if he's a fan of former co-star Emily's show Bones?

Musical Mystery Tour Day 2

Fran Healy and Andy Dunlap from the band Travis performed at an event "billed as 'An Evening with Fran Healy and Andy Dunlop from Travis: A Chronological Acoustic Journey Through the Travis Back Catalogue- Laugh Out Loud Stories, Scottish Accents, Handsome Scottish Men, Naked Torsos.' "

During the course of the show they gave the back story to their music. And in the course the evening Jake was mentioned as inspiration.

The question is which Travis song was inspired by Jake? (I'm trying to figure this one out too.)

Check out this review and see if there are any clues to the answer.
