A Familiar Face Poppins in

Great discussion about that familiar face that has been seen over the years, and her connection to Jake and possibly to a little tile or two.

Yes there was another odd picture with the familiar blonde (thanks for the request PG).  It was in Montreal, and Jake was taking in a movie.  To his right  you find the familiar face and topic of discuss.

But in front of him, there is a quite  small hand. And small little head.

If you remember someone tried to come on and say it was Jake's manager.  But unless that is a pocket manager, Jake audition for Alien,  it looks more like a tiny traveler.


Funny how that she appears many times she appears with tiny travelers over the years.  Makes you think .... tiny travel agent or....

The Importance of Being Ennis (and Jack)

Vulture.com (an off shoot of New York Magazine) listed the 30 Most Important Sex Scenes in Movie History.  And all the scenes you thought would be there are, and some you might have not considered, but the order might be a little unexpected because of how they fall in importance.

It’s not explicit in any way shape or form, but the sight of two male movie stars going at it came as quite a shock to audiences in 2005 — even though everybody already knew what the film would be about. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal both give the performances of their careers in this Ang Lee masterpiece, and the moment when they first fall into each other’s arms is remarkable for the way it balances the confusion of the two characters with the fact that they seem to know exactly what it is they need to do, spit-lube and all.

While time and distance seems to grow from Brokeback, there is no question that it had a impact both on and off screen. It will always stand ready for Jake to return  to.

Movie Makings

Early in his career, Jake was a real movie maker, lots of projects coming one after the other, multiple movies out in the same year, and then came a period of a self imposed slow down where one project a year was the norm, if that.  (Interestingly when Austin was steadily committed to television) Now it seems that he is in a place were he can go back to working with gusto and gusto it is.

It's not one or two movies to talk about today but three:

Past, Present, Future as it were.

Past:  Wrapping Nightcrawler last year, it was waiting to see what the ambitious project that turned Jake into the Thin Man was all about.  The comments from the trailer are singing praises for Jake's portrayal of the anxious, tense, desperate Louis Bloom looking for a job and who finds himself in the underworld of LA's crime journalism scene.  Many have noted that after Jake's performance in Prisoners that he is creating himself a place in playing complex characters.

 Indie Wire said, "It’s less than a minute teaser, but yes, the actor is gaunt and the footage is definitely intriguing. It gives us a quick taste of what to expect, but it's really only the first layer of unpeeling the onion, with lots more to be revealed."  Slated to open October 17th,  there is also talk that it may be included in the Toronto Film Festival.

Present:  Southpaw.   The need for extra seems never ending for Southpaw, but with so many fight scenes, that's a lot seats to fill.  Casting was also looking for a minister, which seems like they could just find an actor to play a minister, but maybe the realize that ministers do have a kind of ministerial look about them. :)

Not only is Southpaw trying to include as much of the population of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley as possible, they are also giving back.  This time giving the gym equipment to groups to bring back gyms in the area.  Check it out here.

  “So the exchange is he is going to give me some of the equipment, and he donated a boxing ring and we are going to put up on the Centre Avenue at the old (YMCA) on the hill. There hasn't been a gym there in about 10 years, so I'm reopening the gym," said Jimmy Cvetic, executive director of the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League.

 Mike Tyson will be making an appearance, as well as some delegates from "Southpaw," who will be there for the ribbon-cutting ceremony when the gym opens.

 And  Future:  The project Divergent.  Naomi Watts is in negotiations to play opposite Jake in Demolition. Last month the news was Jake was considering the lead in Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée’s next film, Demolition. According to the site The Wrap the word is that Naomi is working out a deal to co-star.

"Written by Bryan Sipe, the script focuses on a young investment banker (Jake) who falls into an emotional disconnect after his wife dies. Deciding to tear his life apart to discover what went wrong, he becomes obsessed with the idea of destruction but eventually ends up meeting and befriending a single mother (Naomi), who helps him to turn things around."

Watt's character is much more complicated than you assume – "she’s a pot-smoking customer service operative for a vending machine company whose device has eaten Gyllenhaal’s money, sending him into a rage. Despite her already dating her boss, she starts to fall for the anguished customer, especially when she learns the depths of his situation."


Jake and Naomi have several connections, not to mention the biggest one which is her husband Liev is the star of Ray Donovan.  And oh yeah, that mention that Toothy and Goose have something in common with Naomi and Liev right around this fall seven years ago. Hmmm....

Fast Five Flicks

When Rotten Tomatoes sat down to interview Jake for Enemy they threw in a bit of a challenge name his five favorite films.

That's a tough call.

It's not just the movies Jake listed but what he said about them that made it interesting.

First - Searching for Bobby Fisher

"And just the story of father and son and the score is beautiful. It is inevitably one that I am always drawn to, and I think it's filled with hope but also like a real darkness and the beauty of childhood."    

The darkness of childhood- interesting choice of words from Jake.

La Strada - Fellini's La Strada 

" And it's also personally really resonant because my father said after he saw that movie, it was what made him want to make movies, and when I finally saw it when I was a teenager, I understood why. So it inevitably has a resonance beyond the brilliance of the movie itself.

So it was just something that was prominent in your family, growing up?

La Strada? Yeah when I was an infant we were just talking about it. [laughs] No, I just think it sort of tied to that. I mean, I just wonder sometimes if my father hadn't seen that movie and been so moved by it, you know, would he have met my mother? Would my sister have been born? You know, there's a lot of "would-haves" and eventually all of us have found our way into the movie business, so you know, that's just an interesting thing. And you know, you never know how a movie will inspire someone and how it will lead not just one life but many to come. Sort of an interesting idea"

Another interesting choice, because in the past Jake's talked more about musicals and Danny Kaye movies and his mother when talking about movies growing up. Has he ever talked about Fellini before?

And there's someone else that might have influence that choice.  Austin.  Austin's cinephile influence and he's  a huge fan of the Italian directors

Next he picked Jerry McGuire.  But he talked more about Fast Times than Jerry McGuire. Crowe's Fast Times was ground breaking and changed the teen movie genre.  While it was first R rated teen movie and it was most realistic of a teen movie.  Jake did talk about the infamous scene with Phoebe Cates and the bikini.  Yes that scene with Phoebe is one of the best known scene in movies. it is iconic and I don't think a guy under 40 (gay or straight) doesn't know that one.  (And that's true about the video tape thing -  Cameron  say that in an interview)

Fourth Jake picked the Goonies

Goonies, yeah. I mean maybe Goonies is better than Jerry Maguire, though I do love Jerry Maguire. Goonies is just like... I have no words for how awesome Goonies is. I happen to be working with Josh Brolin on this Everest movie I'm about to do, and I still geek out. You know, I want him to wear a headband in the Everest movie because it's such an amazing character choice. If I remember correctly I feel like he wore sweatpants over jeans in that movie? I'm pretty sure. I might be wrong about that. And that was a pretty dope character choice as well. Just incredible acting, and the scenes with Chunk still move me. And Butterfinger... Oh wait, no. Snickers? What is it, Snickers? My first crush was in Goonies too: Kerri Green. She was in Lucas. She was in Summer Rental. OK? Dude, she... Lucas is a very formidable... I had such a crush on her. Oh my god. If you see her in Lucas, you'd understand."

Wait a minute Jakey - what happened to Martha Plimpton?  You said she was your crush when your mom did Running on Empty - which around the same time. Did you just ditch her for the auburn curls as soon as you Kerri? Because honestly River seemed to be closer to who you were probably crushing on (and who wouldn't - it was River Phoenix!)

Speaking of auburn curls. Remember who loves the Goonies?  That's right Austy.

It's one of his favorite movies. They incorporated into OTH for him and he's tweeted about it.  I don't think it's Jake who geeked out with Josh over it, but more like Jake's Tall Texan who did.

And finally he picked, Woman of the Year, with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.

And Jake gave this gem.

 "I remember feeling very specifically about that movie that I love so much, which is how Spencer Tracy cracks his eggs while he's making an omelet. I will always crack my eggs like Spencer Tracy because of that movie.
[laughs]"

Working (with) Bridges

The Tracking Board is saying...

"A little bird told me there are offers out to Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeff Bridges to star in COMANCHERIA. The action/thriller is about two brothers who try to save their family’s farm by planning a number of bank heists, all while outsmarting a pair of determined Texas Rangers.

Gyllenhaal would play one of the brothers, a divorced father of two who is presumably talked into this life of crime by his ex-con brother, while Bridges will hopefully be putting on a badge as a Texas Ranger who is just a few short weeks away from retirement."

The Tracking Board had the exclusively that World War Z director Marc Forster has been attached from the project.

It is a long way off from getting filmed, and will have to see how this goes.

We know that Jake and Austin have shared clothes, hats, cars, co-stars, friends, (the list goes on) before but doesn't this seem like they are sharing similar movies?

San Patricios is a story about two Texas brothers and has Beau Bridges in the cast. And Comancheria is a story about two Texas brothers with Jeff Bridges rumored to cast.

They should just do a mash up and throw in some Sharknado craze into it, starring Jake & Austin as Texans who meet up with the Bridges brothers who are on a Seahunt for a Tiburón-ado  to rise out of the Gulf.

We know Austin loves shark week!

Maybe just throw a little pink in for color.

Compounding things

Austin did Fencewalker now Jake's doing Nightcrawler.

It was announced today that Jake will not only star in the indie film Nightcrawler but will be one of the producers as well. Tony Gilroy, Jennifer Fox join Jake as producers along with Bold Films’ Michel Litvak and David Lancaster.

Nightcrawler centers on a driven young man in Los Angeles who tries his hand at freelance crime reporting and discovers the nocturnal world of the LA crime scene  Rene Russo is also set to star. 

Jake is not the only one doing double duty on this film screenwriter Dan Gilroy is making his directorial from the script he wrote.   Production is set for late October.

 It looks like Jake is bouncing back to his indie roots again.  And Variety noted something else about Jake, "Since leaving CAA and joining WME, ....has tackled more story-driven adult dramas including indie “An Enemy” and Alcon Entertainment’s “Prisoners” with Hugh Jackman."  And from  personal observation, Jake is also choosing small to medium budget movies that guarantee a solid box office and good return in investment.

One more thing about Nightcrawler, it's a family affair.  Dan Gilroy is the writer/director with brother writer/director/producer Tony,  (who wrote the Bourne Identity with his brother Dan) one of the producers.  And another longtime collaborator twin brother John Gilroy, is editing the film.  And Rene Russo?  Well she's family too.  She's married to Dan.

Like Brother - Like Sister

It was just announced that Viola Davis is joining Jake, Paul Dano, Hugh Jackman and Melissa Leo in Dennis Villeneuve's thriller Prisoner.

Viola's latest movie was Won't Back Down and who was her co-star?
 Maggie.

That gets you thinking how many co-stars the G brother-sister team have shared.

Snaps, Pics and Tricks?

After two weeks of being cloistered from photographers Jake emerges flashing a little tea

The funny things about pictures. They are not always what they seem or when they say happened.

They say that Jake went out with Adam to the movies at the Arclight on June after having dinner in Westwood with other gentleman.

Now we know that Jake and Adam went out on May 29th from this picture.

Check Jake out as the man in black. Black Henley, dark wash jeans, black hat.
But wait Ted said in his reporting of the evening that restaurant sources said "He [Jake] looked very rugged, handsome and was wearing a denim blue shirt, blue jeans, boots and had a buzzed haircut teamed with a sexy scruffy beard."

But that's not what he was wearing at the Arclight.

So when was he wearing that? Saturday night May 28th.

And the denim blue shirt? Well Jake thought he had that all covered. Close but no cigar, buddy.
Just like a peek of blue sky on a grey day, it stands out and brings a smile.

It looks like there was more than just moving the date of when Jake was at the Arclight. It looks like they were trying to blend two nights into one.

Why would they want to roll what Jake did Saturday night over to the same night he went out with his friend Adam? Was it because they need a cover for Jake's Saturday night?

Why would you need to do that if it was just a business dinner and why would Jake cover up so what that you couldn't see what he was wearing?

And why would Jake park in the underground parking lot near the Napa Valley Grille when they have valet parking? Did he not want the truckster scratched? (nah he uses valets all the time) Or did he want to use the parking garage to slip in and out into the restaurant without hanging around at the front entrance and drawing attention?


Oh and speaking of smiles. Jake's hasn't been smiling much when the he gets pap'd lately. Now who would he be having dinner with to make him so Guy Smiley that he was still grinning for the paparazzi?
