Jake's been talking a lot of Lincoln lately. First with Conan, "the Abe Lincoln of talk show hosts" and warning him not to go to the show, then he's talked about Source Coding back to Abe for the last 8 minutes.
So what caused all this Lincoln thinking?
Maybe this fella? Or more likely the one who snapped it.
And there's always more coding:

Boy, somebody just hangs onto my every word, don't they?
Actually, I may go see the movie next week when I'm on my Big V, haven't decided yet. Source Code really just isn't my kind of movie. I'm not a thinking person kind of moviegoer when I do go. Strictly romcom or light fare.
Not ashamed of it - just the way it is. I don't like a lot of explosions and guns and stuff in my movies. Nothing against Jake or anything else going on - it's just the kind of movie it is.
Boy, btw, that was a really, really weak trolling back there on the previous post. Just not up to par. Someone's not been eating their Multi Grain Cheerios.
Hey cool, cnn.com is high on SC.
(CNN) -- Prepare to be blown away -- again and again and again.
Yes, "Source Code" is that good. But it's also true in a literal sense: Being repeatedly blown away is part of the mission facing a disoriented and increasingly distressed U.S. Army officer named Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he tries to find the terrorist who planted a bomb on a Chicago commuter train.
Another excerpt:
As authoritative an exercise in fractured storytelling as Christopher Nolan's "Memento," "Source Code" represents a real advance for Jones, whose only previous film was the micro-budget sci-fi "Moon." Impressive as that was on a technical level, "Moon" felt as emotionally remote as its marooned hero. "Source Code" is an altogether richer and more accessible experience -- the existential popcorn flick that Gyllenhaal's "Donnie Darko" director Richard Kelly hasn't quite been able to pull off.
As for Gyllenhaal, he's more compelling here than he's been in a long time. There's a haunted quality about his desperate heroism that's cumulatively profound. Stevens knows he's stuck in a purgatorial loop with no end in sight, but every time the bomb goes off we can see that he dies a little.
Sorry I didn't post the whole thing - the boring parts about the movie plot I left out. LOLLL!!!
Interesting that in that cnn.com article (hope no one had put that up on the blog yet. I mess up a lot in that way) they put up a video where you can get people from San Diego's reactions to the movie right after they've seen it.
http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-583436
Yeah, it's a Fisher Price link. Just ooooppppen up another browserrrrr...copy and passssste....hit Enterrrrr...there you go, see? That wasn't so terribly bad, was it?
lol
PG, my girlfriend generally hates movies with lots of explosions, guns, etc., but she really liked SC.
I'm not a thinking person kind of moviegoer when I do go. Strictly romcom or light fare.
What are some of your favorite movies from those genres?
What are your favorite Jake movies?
October Sky, I suppose. BBM but that's certainly not light fare.
There are some great movies out there that are fun. Romantic. Beautiful. Funny. Feel good.
Meet Me in St Louis. Life With Father. Robin Hood, Santa Fe Trail, The Seahawk. Pal Joey. The Harvey Girls. Revenge of the Pink Panther. Auntie Mame. Yours, Mine & Ours, With Six You Get Eggroll. Any Ma & Pa Kettle movie. The Holiday. Love Actually. Swiss Family Robinson. Pollyanna. Anne of Green Gables. Pride & Prejudice. Beauty & the Beast. Moonstruck.
Those were probably trick questions but there you go.
Oh! And The Bodyguard. LOL!!
In fact, just finished watching a great one. Return to Me with Minnie Driver & David Duchovney.
He was so good looking in that movie but now I found myself looking at him and thinking about his addiction issue. LOLLL!! oh man.
And while there are shoot 'em up's or sword'ings in Errol Flynn's movies, you can tell they're so fake.
In today's movies, they make them so realistic with real looking blood and spurting and whatnot. They didn't do that back then and they didn't dwell on those scenes like they do now.
Well, it took me about 3 hrs to catch up on all the interviews and news as work kept me tied up most of the last 30 hrs or so. Tom, I do think Regis keeps rubbing salt. It was when Jake was to be on Regis that Ted broke the story about Jake and Austin being spotted in NY walking hand in hand. That time Regis specifically asked Jake what he did the night before, like he had heard all about it. As usual Jake dodged the question.
Hubby and I went to see Source Code last night. I liked it. He really liked it. I thought it was good, but not great. I have no interest in seeing it again, unlike inception or social network. I saw lots of plot holes, but loved the wide shots of Chicago. At one time I used to spend quite a bit of time there on business. The direction was terrific. The best part of the film. Jake was good. I forgot it was Jake most of the time, but not all of the time. I could not help but notice how heavy his make up was. The bad news is that we went to a 7:00 pm screening in a theater with enhanced digital screen and excellent sound, so the ticket was a couple bucks more than normal. There were no more than 20 people in the theater. I have no idea if the audience count was better for the regular price screen as the movie was playing as we left the theater and I could not see the audience. I guess I could have peaked in the back door but did not think to do so.
Jake hitting the theatre this afternoon on JJ, The Book of Mormon.

Why do celebrities wear sunglasses inside? For one thing, you can't see a darn thing. So it's a safety hazard. For another, it's not cool because unless you're over 65 and have an eye condition, you're merely trying to look cool. Thus, the cool factor is shot.
JJ says SC made $5 million last night. That doesn't sound like very much.
I suppose one could have a black eye.
LOLLLLL!!! Oh, we know that's not the case.
One has to ask, has Jake so alienated his fans that he is the cause for not drawing big audiences? I mean, this movie is getting good, decent reviews and it isn't really playing against any other big blockbuster, is it? For the most part, the weather's decent now and March Madness is really chiseled down so there aren't a ton of games going on to keep the guys home.
I feel bad because he just knocks himself out promoting a lot of his movies and it seems like he was everywhere for this SC. All kinds of personal appearances and Q&A's, going to the actual theatres? All over the television. On the radio.
Who couldn't know he had a movie coming out? It's PG-13 so anyone can go.
I don't get it. I know I'm like the only one who said they weren't going (of which I have reneged already a little bit, lol) because Austin Nichols was packed & shuffled off to Indonesia out of twittering distance of Jake and his big movie. So that can't be the reason for everyone else - I'm the only one who can have that high strung of a reason.
What's everyone else's reason?
$5 million last night/an expected $14 million for the weekend is just so-so, plus there was that Deadline HW post about Jake not being able to open a movie. Do you suppose that's why he's hiding behind his sunglasses and looking kind of pissy in those photos?
Don't know why it's not doing better, given the reviews and the kind of movie it is, although other well-reviewed "adult" action films haven't done so hot lately at the box office, like Unstoppable and the latest Matt Damon movie.
Also, except for children's movies, nothing has done big box office this spring. Maybe the high cost of going to the movies, the mediocre economy, the high cost of gas, etc., is keeping people out of the theaters in general.
I tell you what. This might be the last time I get a caramel frapaccino at Starbucks. Almost $5 for a drink and I think I enjoy my McD no-sugar added vanilla iced coffee a lot more. And it's half the cost! Very disappointed in this frappy thing. All kinds of ice gathered at the bottom and no more flavor to it. Only good thing was the whipped cream & caramel. What a rip.
Special, I wanted to tell you that "Morning Train" was just ingenius to pick for the song yesterday. Love that song. Everytime I hear it, it reminds me of George "Can't Stand Ya" Costanza and that episode where he pretends he's physically disabled where he works at and rides up the stairs on one of those electric chairs that carries you up the railing. LOLLLL!!! That George.
Also, your pick up on Abraham Lincoln. Ingenius. I didn't pick up on that at all.
All of these connections. They're no coincidence.
Went to see Source Code today and thought it was great.
Jake gave a great performance and was in 98% of the scenes. It's one of his strongest performances. And Duncan took a sci-fi movie and made accessible to a wide audience. It did not feel like sci-fi as much as it need as a thriller. I will definitely see it again, just to catch more of the little nuances that Duncan,Jake and the rest of the cast woven into the story.
It was beautifully shot, you could see how much thought Duncan put into it. He and Jake found ways to take a repetitive story and keep it fresh each time.
I loved all the little pop culture references that they tucked into it.
Good point about the economy, Dest. You are right. I tell you - between gas and food, Obama's economy is killing me. It's killin' me.
'Course, there I go and spend a stupid $5 on a no-flavor-left, nothing left but white slush Starbucks frappucino (how do you spell that word, anyway?). LOLLL!! Aw well, gotta have a treat sometimes, dontcha?
Economy can always be used as the reason although when there's a big blockbuster out, somehow, some way Joe Q Public finds a way to come up with the money.
I always say that if it's something people really want to go see, whether it's a big NFL game or concert or whatever, they will find the money to do it.
So maybe it's the lesser blockbuster stuff that gets passed on. It's the frills. The treats. The Starbucks. Silver Level gas. Fancy cupcakes. Good, solid movies for a night's simple entertainment.
And what gets purchased instead is the poor man's iced coffee. Clearance rack cupcakes. Straight unleaded with ethanol. And Red Box videos for $1 and microwave popcorn at home.
I must admit I would love to go see Book of Mormon. Anything from Trey Parker and Matt Stone is going to hilarious, raunchy, but hilarious. Totally can see Jake enjoying it, taking a break and having a laugh. Sandra Bullock went a couple of nights ago, lots of celebrities are catching since it just opened.
This is not Trey & Matt's first foray into the world of Mormon either, has anyone see Orgasmo, (before they did South Park, and Team America)? Now you're a man! (Man!)/A man, man, man/Now you're a man! (Man!)/A man-e, man-e, man
In fact, just finished watching a great one. Return to Me with Minnie Driver & David Duchovney.
Return to Me is a great movie. Bonnie Hunt is in it, too, and she's always wonderful and funny.
That is a favorite of mine too. Bonnie wrote and directed it and did a fantastic job. I loved the casting, and I can't tell you how many times I do quotes from it.
Which one was Bonnie Hunt? Was she Grace's blond friend? She looked kind of familiar.
I liked Jim Bulushi in it, too. I always thought Jim Belushi was really good looking when he was younger.
I could not help but notice how heavy his make up was.
During which bits of the film did you notice that, m?
I know that people have notice the small scar near Jake's mouth that's more noticeable when his has a bit of stubble. Some have wondered when it happened. It must have happened before Source Code filmed because I caught it in one scene early on, and he said they shot the numerous Source Codes in sequence.
Went in town to see the movie and theater was pretty full for a Sat matinee.
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been making the media rounds over the past couple days to promote his new movie Source Code, which is out this weekend. The movie, which is received surprisingly favorable reviews from movie critics and fans of Gyllenhaal alike, is expected to do well in theaters this weekend. In fact, on Rotten Tomatoes, which is known to give harsh ratings to many movies, 82% of those who reviewed the movie said that they “liked it”. The average rating on that site is a 7.4 out of 10 stars.
http://www.etidbits.com/stars-come-out-for-gyllenhaals-source-code-movie-polls-well=4047
Also, your pick up on Abraham Lincoln. Ingenius.
The stupidity of this speaks for itself. LOL!!
Ingenius?? LOL! It's ingenious
His make up was heavy in all of the movie. Heavier than in his earlier movies. Keep in mind that I watched it on an enhanced, digital state of the art screen. Frankly, I also got a bit distracted as I could see every blood vessel in one of his eyes and there were a lot of them.
I was surprised at the low box office. I made my husband nuts by paying extra, purchasing our tickets on line so that we were sure of a seat. I insisted we get there early so that we had our choice of seats. I truly expected a big crowd and possible sell out. It may do better tonight, being Saturday, as many people work Fridays. The movie showing times are not the best for after work events. Saturday is wide open, so here is hoping for a better showing today.
Keep in mind that I watched it on an enhanced, digital state of the art screen.
It's being shown like that everywhere since it was filmed in HDD.
As far as the makeup, I really don't think he was wearing a lot, if any, in the train scenes - you could count all the pores on his face.
What part does Max play in the mission?
Basically everyone on the train is a suspect. All of the passengers are suspects, so I am as well. They wrote it so well that you don’t know who the villain is. It’ll have you feeling the suspense.
What was your impression of the script?
I’m not a big reader, and I’m not normally good at reading scripts. But when I read it I was like ‘wow’. It was very compelling, I couldn’t put it down.
How was it working with Jake?
Jake was really cool. For a big movie star guy, I was expecting attitude, but he was very chill and cool.

Book of Mormon w/Rachel= Awesome
Book of Mormon w/ Jake Gyllenhaal 5 rows ahead of me and seeing him during intermission= PRICELESS
about an hour ago
Gee Jack, did you see Source Code? Or do you just like to pretend like you're a fan of Jake's, and attack everyone else for not seeing it, talking honestly about some of the things Jake has done, etc.....
I'm dying to see Book of Mormon, but it'll probably be a hard ticket to get right now with the rave reviews.
I didn't notice heavy makeup or the scar in SC.
PG, you know I couldn't let the Obama remark slide. :-D The problems started under Bush, although I will say Obama made things worse by not injecting enough stimulus into the economy. Okay, enough of politics.
Jake was just on SNL!
He was on Weekend Update with Seth Myers and he played off Andy Samburg's Nick Cage.
Here is the video of Jake on SNL.
Jake SNL April 2, 2011
Hey, that's cool! Oooh, he looked good, didn't he? That guy did a pretty good imitation of Nicholas Cage, yelling like he does in his movies all the time. LOL. It was a weird skit, but oh well. Pretty neat.
Destiny, you crack me up. Yeah, Obama inherited a lot of it. And I don't know that the BP oil spill was his fault.
Someone pointed out to me once that we would be helping to pay for the BP oil spill and it makes sense to me. There's no other explanation for these fuel prices. It just went up a dime last night. For what reason, I ask?
Wow, this is not what I expected to read. I guess ol' Charlie Sheen got booed like crazy at the first stop on his tour last night in Detroit. Well, what did these people think they were going to get for their $$?
From People.com:
The people who packed the Fox Theatre in Detroit on Saturday night for Charlie Sheen LIVE: My Violent Torpedo of Truth booed as the actor, who took the stage around 9 p.m., launched into a series of nonsensical rants from behind a podium. (Sheen appeared on stage briefly before his set officially began to quell negative audience reaction to his comedian opening act, though that didn't stop the early booing.)
In fact, his rants were so nonsensical that even Sheen seemed confused, and he stopped right in the middle of his speech, saying, "Is anybody as confused by this s–– as I am? The good news is, I wrote every word."
Elsewhere during his main set, Sheen also took questions from the audience and showed multiple video clips, including some of his own screen work, as well as an older film starring Johnny Depp.
"Tonight is an experiment," Sheen later told the crowd. "You paid your hard-earned money without knowing what this show was about."
Sheen, who was fired from Two and a Half Men in March, took jabs at the show in his live performance. He also took jabs at the city of Detroit.
"I figured Detroit was a good place to tell some crack stories," he said, before asking the audience, "Show of hands – who here has tried crack? Forget that. Who is holding crack right now? I don't do crack anymore, but I'm just saying."
Their reply? More booing.
In response, the embattled actor told the crowd, "Tell the guy next to you booing to shut the **** up because he's ruining it for the rest of you."
A Variety Show Gone Wrong
Many audience members seemed to think Sheen wouldn't continue with his tour after his less than enthusiastic reception. "We're happy we came from Toronto to see it here because I don't think he'll continue with the rest of his shows," audience member Richard Carpenter, 45, told PEOPLE. "He's going to take this as a sign that he's not going to be received well in other cities."
Natasha Sutton, 25, of Rochester, Mich., was also less than impressed. "I thought he was pretending he was crazy until tonight," she told PEOPLE. "It was all crap. We'd rather lose money at the casino than come to another one of his shows." And Dave Tholen, 45, of Rochester, Mich., echoed the sentiment, calling the evening a "variety show gone wrong."
For his part, Sheen seemed affected by the crowd response. He never got around to telling certain stories he promised and, at one point, he took out a piece of paper as if to read it, then changed his mind. "I'm not gonna read it with so much disruption," he said, responding to the lively crowd.
This is classic. From USA Today:
At times, as the unruly crowd just would not stop yelling out at him, Sheen seemed angry. "Too bad. I already got your money," he snarled.
Guess it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the tour goes, if it continues at all.
Boy, I guess it's supposed to get up to 82 degrees today. That's crazy!
On opening night of South by Southwest 2011, Duncan Jones’ Source Code celebrated its world premiere with a packed house at the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin. There was an electricity in the room, and most of it was buzzing about the arrival of Jake Gyllenhaal, the star of the film and the object of affection for more than a few of the females present.
A brouhaha in the bathroom, where a patron tried to snap a picture of Gyllenhaal at the urinal, circulated quickly and became legend, but you wouldn’t notice a hint of hesitation from the actor when he strutted to his seat on the aisle and kindly addressed the adorations of nearby fans. I was sitting rather close (I must have photo-bombed a hundred Facebook pictures), so I had a front row seat for the uncharacteristic nuttiness over this 30-year-old.
Which is why I was thrown when Gyllenhaal sat down with us the following day for an interview and he had ditched the confident swagger of a major celebrity. A charmer and a jokester, without a doubt, but Gyllenhaal was also equal part Donnie Darko, slouched with an uncomfortable shyness, and spoke with an eloquent intelligence you might not expect from an actor best known for his glistening Prince of Persia pecks and tough guy roles.

Not enough economic stimulus? That term is a little vague. Where in the world will the money come from?
The reason the economy is in the state it is in hasn't anything to do with our President. It's due to loooooong-entrenched conservative policies in our country that include avoiding taxes, corporations and financial institutions running roughshod over and around the tax and other laws, unregulated. A corporate entity is the embodiment of a corporate citizen, and they are not behaving like American citizens when they incorporate in other countries to avoid paying taxes like every other American citizen in our country does, to the tune of billions of dollars. GE and Bank of America, for example, paid zero Federal taxes in 2010.
Congress needs to get some cojones and change some of the laws to hold corporations and financial institutions accountable as the American citizens they are. Billions are lost in corporate taxes every year that could go to reducing the deficit and numerous other programs in our country.
But "no taxes" is the mantra of everyone, big corporation or individual. You can't have programs if there's no money to pay for them.
I saw Source Code too, and I thought it was very good. Loved the story. Jake looked great in it, I didn't see a lot of makeup - I did notice scruff, scars, bloodshot eyes - things that don't mar his beauty in any way, but made him look real. You should see him in a flight suit too. :)

She played Jim Belushi's wife, I don't remember her name in the movie.
Oh, that's real class, Soap. Real class with a capital C. That girl has one royal sailor's mouth.
Is that supposed to be an admirable telling off? Are we supposed to be impressed with that?
Boy, her true colors do come through on her twitters at times, don't they?
Way to lose it, Soap.
When is OverTheHill overrrrrrr? geez.
Cojones, that is right too, can't expect me to expound with any eloquence at 1 in the morning. And the Dems get as much blame for that as the Republicans, because they don't have any cojones to stand up to the special interests and the GOP.
Interesting observations by that interviewer of Jake, and not surprising. I think if he had more self-confidence he wouldn't have done all the bearding.
LOL to Sophia. What did she expect when she set up a twitter account. You're going to get a lot of things you don't like along with the adoration.
What in the world did people think they were going to get when they bought tickets to Charlie Sheen.

I didn’t think it was funny at all. Funny how Jake was on this particular show. I really think Jake is gay and it was a tiny step out of the closet.
^^^JJ sure gets the cream of the crop with commenters. Wouldnt have anything to do with promoting his film would it? Nah. LOL
Not to worry, Destiny. :)
I have just found big corporations more dismaying lately.
There's also a disturbing trend towards what looks like union busting I'm seeing, starting with school budgets and teachers' salaries. Again, trying to lay the problem at the feet of working people, social programs and too much taxing.
Speaking of romcoms, PrairieGirl, I'm happy to see Matthew McConaughey back in a legal drama - The Lincoln Lawyer. I haven't seen it yet but I would like to. I loved him in
A Time To Kill.
