Marshal Amps

It's turned up a full weekend of Austin kicking off today with the limited release of Beautiful Boy. (official site)We know that Austin plays Cooper Stearns, a writer. But what we didn't know was his connection to Bill and Kate, the couple who's worlds are rocked when their only child, Sammy, goes on a shooting rampage on his college campus and then turns the gun on himself.

Kate is a proofreader and Cooper is one of her clients.

The consensus is that despite the tough nature of the movie's subject, the leads are the strength of the movie, and definitely Maria's portrayal of the high functioning perfectionist Kate. Check out some of them here:

Huffington Post
IFC.com
Movieline.com
NPR.com
New York Observer

Rotten Tomatoes
has a solid 71 for the movie at the moment.

While a good review from the NY Times there was a bit of a tough critique for Austin's Cooper Stearns- "a tactless, voyeuristic creep whose boorish behavior rings false."

But that's far from the real Austin who has had so much fun helping promote the LA RR that's happening with this weekend.

I'm ready to Marshal.

Will have to wait for those picture of Austin doing his Grand Marshaling. But there are enough magical moments to remember till then.
Next season's high five for Julian?

"You will have to be strong for the both of us"

"Don't look. I'm not crying, it's allergies. It's not good bye I will be back I promise."

Austin the pistol thing is more Marshaling in a Earp sort of way.

Ride Austy Ride

Not a 10 gallon hat but 5 gallon beard.

File it away guys, you can say the scruff is about saving the planet.

Something else is happening on Sunday, it's World Environment Day. "Nick Offerman's (a.k.a. Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation) beard saves the planet.” He's teamed up with Budweiser to promote its “Grow One. Save a Million” campaign, "which encourages men to grow beards as awesome as his — and therefore conserve water." "According to Budweiser, on average, a man uses 5 gallons of water every time he shaves. The company hopes enough men will take the pledge to put down the razor to save one million gallons of water."

If this is a 15 gallon beard

is this a 150 gallon beard?

Happy Austin Friday.

Where is everyone? At work I guess. Austin's new movie looks good. I have not read the reviews yet but hope that comment was about his character, not his performance.

I think the picture Ted used was significant too for the rainbow theme. Just an excuse to reemphasize that Jake is Toothy.

Beautiful Boy really does look quite good. Very intense, and complicated by the fact that the son is a young adult no longer living under his parents' roof. It will be interesting to see Austin play a possibly darker, slimy character who may be benefiting from another's tragedy. It's always a crap shoot having children - you do the best you can to raising them to be good citizens, and that they'll have happy, productive, and untroubled lives, but you just never know sometimes. And signs of trouble don't always lead to the worst case scenario. That said, I think that a younger child's behavior, still living under the parents' roof, is the responsibility of the parents.

Almost too scary to comtemplate!

I will always see Michael Sheen as Tony Blair, having seen him in that role in The Queen. :)

I've been watching Deadwood, never watched it when it was on TV. I"m almost to Austin's episodes. I really love the show, and I'm going to very unhappy when we finish it up. I'd love to see Austin do something like Deadwood again.

Austin was really good as Morgan in Deadwood even though it was a small part. I loved how Milch used Austin's quirkiness as a part of Morgan.

Here are some more reviews of Beautiful Boy:

Christian Science Monitor: B-

Here is an interview with Michael Sheen in New York Magazine
NY Magazine

And Maria Bello's interview with the NY Post. (The interviewer loved the movie)

Another movie that is opening this weekend in limited release is Beginners with Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor. Instead of parents discovering their son's gay, it's a son rediscovering his recently-outed father while trying to juggle his own love life. I saw a clip and Christopher and Ewan are wonderful together, it looks great.

Interview with Jake in Austrian magazine Live, it looks like it is a mash up of other interviews.

Here's a summary article about the interview.

"03. 06. 11. - 16:04
Gyllenhaal on his 'Moulin Rouge' trauma

"Donnie Darko" star Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed he was desperate for the leading role in acclaimed musical film "Moulin Rouge."

The Hollywood actor told Austrian showbiz magazine Live today (Fri) he had been auditioning for the part – for which Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting") was eventually cast – for months. Gyllenhaal said McGregor, Heath Ledger and himself made the final round before decision-makers opted for the Scot.

"I think they decided to take the biggest star. I was the youngest. It was disappointing because I’d have loved to do it," Gyllenhaal admitted.

The US American actor – who most recently starred in "Love and Other Drugs" – also said he felt "flattered" by rumours he was bisexual.

"That means I’m credible in diverse roles," the 30-year-old said referring to his role in modern western drama "Brokeback Mountain."

He added: "I’ve never felt attracted to a man – but I wouldn’t be afraid of it."

Gyllenhaal, who was born to parents active in the movie industry, plays a man who gets several chances to stop a terrorist from blowing up a train in new action thriller "Source Code." Asked by Live who he would aim to save in a journey back in time, he named human rights activist Martin Luther King and assassinated US President John F. Kennedy."

You know, that better be a slice 'n dice thing, that's all I have to say.

I'm really getting tired of Smokescreen Jake. Everything's a cover up. Everything's misleading. Everything's a trap. Everything's false. Everything is masked in beefcake, uber hair, dark glasses and hoodies. Everything's just a stinkin' lie anymore. The guy is all about lies and concealer.

Who was the real Jake? Where is he? Who was he ever? Who is this guy walking the streets now?

I don't know him, probably never did.

Florida Tom said...

You know him PG. Jake caved. He didn't have the balls. He preferred fame and money over honesty and common decency..

Special K said...

While it a new interview for the magazine, Jake did interviews for Source Code months ago in the press junkets. So if they didn't get enough to work with they are going to go cull things from their files to pad it out.

Everything's a trap

Really well said. I agree. Parents do the best they can these days and really, don't you think they just have to hope that their kids don't get mixed up with a bad influence or the wrong crowd. Because I know some really good people who are parents and man, they just don't deserve what some of their kids do - and I'm talking more about once they hit those teenage years.

Those teenage years can be really rough. I have watched & listened to some really hellish stories from friends and co-workers.

Okay, this is just really very odd.

Soapy Bush has yet to say anything about her dearest live-in boyfriend's big Ride today. I mean, Austin is the Grand Poobah Marshal. What an honor! It's not every day anyone gets to be a parade grand marshal.

But ol' Soap hasn't said one single word on her twitter about it. I don't think she even mentioned it when it was first announced. Is she jealous or what?

Wouldn't you think at the very least, she would have helped promote it???

And why hasn't she said one single, solitary word on her twitter about Beautiful Boy, her dear live-in boyfriend's brand new movie that unveiled yesterday at select theatres? That Austin was asking people to re-tweet like crazy?

The GF can't help a BF out??? What the hell, Soap?!!

What in the heck is going on?

Talk about very odd, very strange, and now very, very obvious.

As in glaringly obvious, Soap.

prairiegirl said...

I fully expect to see a pic of ol' Soap actually riding on her Texas bike in the L.A. River Ride. No standing beside the bike this time, Sophia. Gotta get on it this time and help out.

Hope she's got ol' Jared Eng standing by on Speed Dial as well.

prairiegirl said...

Sorry but someone's got to point it out and guess it may as well be me.

Good luck, Austin! Hope the fam is up by now and fueling you up for the big ride. Hope it's good weather and a great turnout.

Grand Marshal!!! Woohoo! Isn't that cool. Really - it's like a childhood dream, isn't it? My dad was honored sort of like that once in our hometown parade. Got to ride in the back of an open convertible and everything - I can still see it. Pretty cool.

I hope Austin takes some pictures - I'd love to see his bike and see if there's any playing cards in the spokes or streamers, lol.

Remember that, putting cards in the spokes? I had the coolest childhood bike - it had a black banana seat and big monkey bars. That thing was awesome.

Special K said...

The ride is tomorrow but I am sure that Austin is practicing his wave with smaller audience today.

And you know Grand Marshal is honing in Rose Queen territory and that just can't happen. There's only room for one in the house.

Methodical Muser said...

Isn't the LA Bike Ride tomorrow? Agree that the GF has been laying low since the fairy tale about the two of them living together in compost bliss. Even if she tweets something now, it's pretty clear she may have been one of those bridges Austin was intending on burning.

Special K said...

That 's really cool about your dad PG. Love hometown parades that happen it is so great to see the community come out and every one participate.

I am sure there will be lots of pictures from the River Ride. They have a deal for riders to sign up and get pictures of them while they are riding taken by professional photographers positioned around the rides.

prairiegirl said...

LOL! I guess I thought it was today since most parades are on Saturdays. But an event of larger participation is done on Sundays because public safety doesn't have such a challenge.

Okay, so the GF has 24 hours to get her butt in gear and do some promoting. I mean really, you would think she might be a bit supportive.

I think the best picture in the world would be the two guys on their bikes with occupied toddler bicycle seats. Yeah, I know. Dream away.
