Director's Cut

Prisoners broke it's award nominee shut-out with a Critics Choice nominee for Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins while it looks like one of Jake's previous director is finding another full award season. David O. Russell has been on an award roll since Nailed with The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, and now American Hustle.  It make you want to watch Nailed as least the version Russell created just to see what kind of performance he capture with Jake. 

Early in his career Jake seemed to pick movies even more by the director than the screenplay.  It looked like he was creating his own film school working with some of the best directors in the business.  Each brought a difference to the screen,  then seem to be change - an evolution perhaps? Jake started working with "young" directors - those with only a few movie under their belt or those directors who had success outside of mainstream Hollywood, with a sprinkle here and there of a bigger name.

Last year Jake was getting ready to head down under as part of the promotion for LaOD.And while on the whirl of media trip he had lunch with U2. New pictures from IHJ show that they were in high spirits. Or is that taking in spirits?
Disaronno? Did they watch too much BravoTV and the constant Disaronno commercials that ran on it?

Now, today it's like a twist of last year.

Jake's not down under but undercover with no one sure where he has been since Thanksgiving. And Austin is said to be seen wearing a hoodie.

Hmmm Does that mean he's listening to U2 and drinking Disarrono?

...Farm living is the life for me....

Jake was wheeling and dealing last Wednesday, and it wasn't Soul Cycle, but food and that for Jake it is where his soul is-food, along with friends, and family and.... farming

Jake dusted off the fanciest duds he has for his East Coast adventure and did his best Rumplejakeskin for an evening event to raise money for the Edible Schoolyard program in NYC.

The host was fashion designer Lela Rose and her husband Brandon Jones who opened their TriBeCa loft to chef Gabrielle Hamilton of Prune restaurant (a Jake fav) and guests who each contributed a $1000 to the schoolyard program.

Jake's childhood friend designer Sophie Buhai was there as well.With a table that wowed the crowd, it almost compete with the food for the main attraction.

Starting off with radishes dipped in butter, the dinner moved on to Spanish mackerel poached in kalamata olive oil and braised duck legs with lentils, black chickpeas and chanterelles.

Jake took a few minutes to speak to the gathering that raised $120,000 and spoke to a couple of columnist inthe fashion world. What about? Food, family, friends and farming.

He spoke about how family dinners around the table were especially important to him, how they grew food in their garden and shopped at the Farmers Market.

"I got involved because the dinner table was always a place, since I was a young child, where we got to get together, and I actually got to know my family there more than any other place in the world. I grew up growing my own food in our family garden."

And while it was a little upscale in menu selections Jake brought back down to earth with talks about pizza.
"I love going to these schools and making kale pizza with the kids."

Jake talked about how important home gardens and farmers market played in his life and how he was a part of the slow food movement growing up without even knowing it.

"I didn't realize that I grew up in the slow food movement. I see children who didn't know any of these things—that they can grow their own food and learn about vegetables when they are at a primary level. It was everything to me, so I wanted to be involved. Since knowing about this organization, I've done everything I can."Talking more about ESY, he said:

“To me, this is a fiercely political topic, even though it seems like an easy one to actually put into practice. Even though an event like tonight’s might seem elitist, it is about incorporating one of the least expensive things you can do. It just takes time, attention and love, which oddly is an incredibly difficult thing for people to do in this world.”

A fashion reporter got a little one on one time with Jake and got a few more insights of the "the sexiest farmer alive". (Like maybe why he makes kale pizza with kids)

And the kale?

Asked what his favorite veggie is, he picks an Italian kale that some may know as black leaf kale.

"I'd say right now, after an extensive search over the years and living the wonderful life that I've had so far, and after tasting many, many vegetables...cavolo nero. It's like a really soft kale. You can eat it any form: cooked, raw..."

And going Green Acres from there it's about farming and one of his best buds Chris.
"I was raised in Los Angeles, but I spent my summers, since I was born, in Martha's Vineyard. My best friend, since we were little kids, lives there, and he's a farmer. His whole family farms. I know it might seem odd, but it's what I love more than anything. Being in gardens have been some of the most wonderful times of my life. Washing lettuce and watching things grow...you feel connected to the world. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that connects you to the universe in the same way that planting a seed does."

And their follow up for the friend of farmers:

That's so sweet! And now you've got a beard like a real farmer.

The Naked Truth

In the November issue of Cosmopolitan UK have Jake and other male celebs talking about love, "opening up on the mysterious world of falling in love. . ."

“The wonderful part about falling love is the time spent naked...the times spent intimate like that.”

But are they talking or just getting re-quoted from stuff they've said in the past?

Case in point. Jake's quote is not original to Cosmo UK, but comes from an interview Jake did on BBC Radio 4 last December promoting LoAD.

'I don't think what I'm saying is that it's dangerous or groundbreaking but what I am saying I think it's refreshing because I don't think you've seen movies, particularly in this genre, deal with sex in a way that is actually dealing with intimacy. Some romantic comedies or comedies that are emotional or whatever, to see an actress – to see an actor – but to see an actress with sheets covering up her top and not really seeing these two people actually be intimate physically with each other. The physical intimacy between a couple is like half the relationship in my opinion and also an important aspect. I've rarely ever seen people have sex with boxers on but I see that in romantic comedies all the time. They getting out of bed with like boxers on. It doesn't make any sense! The wonderful part about falling in love is the time spent naked! The times spent intimate like that. We should see them sharing their bodies with each other and that means ultimately sharing their bodies with the audience too in this story.'

No doubt Jake was talking about his own experience falling in love. But who made him fall? And spending time with naked?

Ahhh yeah ...NoAnd the one after that... big that's a big N-O too.

Jake was out and about yesterday in LA.

Hmmm does his pal own an Audi Q7 too?

Or does he get to drive Jake's?

And why would Jake be so camera shy going out the back?

What goes better than Love and Other Drugs for the Crazy Tree? And with LaOD being released on DVD today there's no better reason for a big mash up of both.

Over on the Crazy Tree looks like the "we've been married 5 weeks, ran into some pregnant girl who is about to deliver and now we're going to be parents" thing is happening. If OTH had not cemented their Soap Opera status by being rerun on Soap Opera network, this story has helped seal the deal. Will Erica Cain come from Pine Valley to make a special guest appearance as Julian's Aunt? Will there be a plot to steal the baby from BrookeDavis(TM) as she and Julian head to a island to stop an evil weather machine from sending Tree Hill into the Ice Age. (Wait Austin needs Jake for that story line)

So what I am I going to get Auntie BrookeDavis for our
" we made through 21 days of marriage" gift?

She did say she wanted a baby.
