 Jake joined the cast/crew and some famous news readers/reporters (even Jake's Constellation co-star) at The Rum House at The Hotel Edison celebrating Nightcrawer and the holidays.

While Austin was either quizzing state capitals or is  still trying to equate the name  Austin with boobs while playing catch me if you can but actually in LA.

Austin's film Stroker will be screening at  the film festival as well Austin taking part of the live reading of Flarsky.

Hope he has some time to get some of that bbq, queso and Mexican martinis.

Food, Inc(luded)

Almost time to head down to Texas for the @austinfilmfest. BBQ, Queso, Mexican Martinis and great films. Paradise. - AUS10

This Texan loves his food.  Taco trucks, sushi, BBQ, a cardiac concerning love of Queso, an ice cream addiction, In -n -Out burgers, Sunday night dinners at Jar, Mozza, his love of the Big Boy, not to mention his self professed "excitement" in Whole Foods,  cooking three big chickens with Jake, Austin loves food.  He's talked about some of his favorite places in LA,  and in Wilmington.

But this man does not live by food alone, especially when your name and alias are both liquors.   Beer, Mexican Martinis, blood-orange juice at Ammo, the Ron Burgundy, tequilas, free bars at industry events, Austin knows "hydration" is key too.

 Austin will be joining the annual staged script reading that will feature the comedy Flarsky, by Dan Sterling (writer The Office, The Interview) in a live event co-presented by The Black List.

The cast also includes Mike Birbiglia (Sleepwalk with Me), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), and Austin's former Full Count/Lenexa 10 mile co-star Jason Ritter .

"Flarsky is a romantic comedy about a decent guy, battered by misfortune and his own self-destructive ways, who endeavors to romantically pursue the most powerful woman on earth."

Fred Flarsky is - or was - a progressive opinion columnist at a dying local paper who devoted most of his work to attacking Alistair Wembley, the sinister chairman of a global media conglomerate. Fred is now unemployed, broke, single, getting late into his 30's, and has a worrisome pill and booze habit. He, like the rest of the world, is infatuated with the current United States secretary of state, Charlotte Field. She's gorgeous, charismatic, and far more politically skillful than her embattled, feckless president. 

Fred's lived with his Charlotte Field-infatuation longer than most people. Growing up, Charlotte was his baby-sitter. But that was an eternity ago and they haven't seen each other since Fred was a child. She's since become American royalty, married a high profile senator, and no doubt has forgotten who Fred even is. Between that and the counter-assault team that travels with her, she's pretty much the most inaccessible, unobtainable woman on the planet. The only thing Fred and Charlotte have in common at this point is that they're both enemies of Alistair Wembley.

But Fred's friend, Lance, believes there's hope. Lance is a transcendently optimistic person, but he's also sharp, and he sees a narrow but plausible path to victory for Fred. With a combination of relentless insistence and well-meaning trickery, Lance gets the virtually homeless Fred Flarsky to pursue the married, de facto leader of the free world.

Past readings have included staged presentations of unproduced screenplays such as Vince Gilligan's 2 Face, Shane Black's The Nice Guys, Maggie Carey's The To-Do List, and an unaired episode of David Milch's Luck, written by Eric Roth.

The same day on a release of a new poster for Nightcrawler,

 the movie closed out the Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX today

Which also was the same day this guy was seen Texas proud and in an airport.

Also fantastic are the reviews for Jake's performance in  Nightcrawler, and for the creepy film noir movie.

The film was voted by the critics as one of the best of TIFF, as well as Jake's performance.

Great reviews from critics are  putting it and Jake in the 4 start/ A- category and Nightcrawler has a very  respectable  82% on Rotten Tomatoes from all critics and  67% from top critics.

Here is an interview with Indie Wire with Jake talking about the movie , writer/director Dan Gilroy, and his character Lou Bloom, and "staring into the eyes of the coyote." (remember that is the spirit animal inspiration du jour)

Fantastic News

At the beginning of the month, it was announced that Nightcrawler would be premiering at Toronto International Film Fest. And TIFF is coming up fast. As in next week. (Where did summer go?)

Nightcrawler's world premiere will be at the Elgin/Winter Theatres on Friday, September 5th, at 9:00 pm, with additional screenings on the following Saturday, at noon, and then again on Friday, September 12th.

And while The Great White North is the international red carpet premiere of Nightcrawler, Jake and crew are taking the movie way down south for the U.S. premiere.

Now wherever could that be?

Can you say "Deep in the Heart of Texas"

The U.S. red carpet premiere of "Nightcrawler" was the highlight of the second wave of announcements coming out today about Austin, TX's upcoming 10th anniversary edition of Fantastic Fest, which runs from Sept. 18-25th.

The movie premiere will close out the festival which takes place at the newly reopened Alamo South Lamar and Highball theaters.

Fantastic Fest focuses on off-the-radar genre films from U.S. and abroad
and is "largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world."

 Don't think they had a tough time convincing one of the movie's producers to bring Nightcrawler to Texas, do you?

SXSW Austin

Two years ago Jake was hit at SXSW

  but this weekend it looks like it's Austin's turn to make a splash in his hometown.

SHOWTIME has created a unique brand experience  at SXSW and is having a special watch party to show off their newest show Ray Donovan this first weekend of the festival.

SHOWTIME has created a multi-platform SXSW GO app for attendees to  share their schedule, network with others, and navigate the convention for the event and have  network-branded film buses shuttling throughout the city, including a Ray Donovan bus along with ones for Homeland, Shameless, Dexter,  an exclusive, invite-only lounge at the W Hotel Austin for this weekend, and a special, invitation only first-ever watch party of the highly-anticipated new drama series Ray Donovan on Saturday night followed by an after party.

Austin showing off his Austin and from the looks of it the view is from his Mom & Dad's.  Austin's talked about his parents living on the lake and the ridge/canyon during interviews back when he was guest staring on Friday Night Lights.

Austin has had the opportunity to work in his hometown twice.  First with Friday Night Lights and then on Parkland. Wanna bet he wants to work there as much as he can?

Now the question is this gorgeous picture of the Texas sky real (as in real time) or Memorex (ie taken when he was working on Parkland)?

Either way it shows off the beauty and one of the things Austin loves about his hometown.

And for sure we all know by now he is one proud Texan and Austinite.
