You still are not convincing me on the purchase of a hybrid though, Mr. Nichols. I am still reading a lot online about the high cost of replacing bad batteries and whatnot. And it seems to me that the mpg should be a lot better. 40-41 mpg is what you can get with a regular Toyota or a Focus on the highway.

Oh my dog, I love it. My back loves it. It swivels. It's well made, it'll tilt if I want. Arm rests are perfect and it is durable, luxurious upholstery that will last a long time. A wise, lucky purchase if I say so myself. I had found one at Staples that was wonderfully ergonomic to sit in with memory foam and all that, but this chair....this was IT.

Nice article about Austin, nice pic too. Hopefully, our gov't will have the cojones to stop giving tax breaks and subsidies to Big Oil, while important programs cuts are being cut to the bone. I am disgusted with Congress right about now.
My hybrid gets about 60 mpg on average, and that's great - but having a hybrid is also about breathing cleaner air and less reliance on fossil fuels. I have never had battery problems, and they are usually warranted for 100,000 miles. I love mine. I don't think I will ever buy a regular car again.
Wow, 60 mpg! Now see, that's the kind of incredible number that would be more motivating.
I agree about the cleaner air. I work in a department where I have to walk by all of these 53' tractor trailers and boy, they can really spit out the smelly fumes. I watch cement trucks put out gray smoke and some peoples' cars. You know that is bad stuff.
I was just reading where these people were having to replace their batteries and you're talking $6-7000 - you may as well buy another car talking about that kind of money.
I don't think you're going to get the majority of people to buy these cars though.
Americans love their SUV's and big luxury trucks. Big-boned people love and need big vehicles. Families with carseats who also haul other peoples' kids need more room than these hybrid vehicles offer.
Jake and Austin are a good example though of people with the kind of upper bracket income who can afford to have those Q7's when they need to haul the kids but also have the hybrids for when it's just them in the car. But only your above normal income families are going to be able to afford to do something like that.

You know, I have yet to see a Q7 in JoCo. I don't even know where there is a BMW outlet around here - we've got all the other upper bracket dealers like Jaguar and Lexus but I do not see Audi. And JoCo is prime SUV country but I've not seen a Q7. You used to see a lot of big ol' Hummers around here but LOL, ever since gas went over $3.50, you don't see those things anymore.

Yes, that's true - a lot of people do need larger vehicles and trucks for work, and carting kids around -Hummers I love 'em, but Hummers, Ferraris and big pickup trucks are now relegated to my forbidden fantasies. Would love to drive one tho. ;)
You'd be surprised at alllll the big pick ups around where I live. We're the kingpin of strip malls and big box stores but with all the chrome shiny, diesel-driven pick up trucks around here, you'd think this was major farmland and people were hauling cattle and sheep! LOLLL!!

I park next to one in my parking garage everyday - same color and model as the one Jake had. They are not tanks at all. They're a mid-size SUV.

If this vehicle seats seven (not only seats seven but spaciously seats seven) and overfills parking spaces, I am sorry but that puts this thing right up there with an Expedition and an Expedition is huge.

Introduction
The Audi Q7 is a large, luxurious SUV long on refinement, comfort and active safety features. The 2010 Audi Q7 benefits from some freshening inside and out, including new trim features and equipment upgrades.
Based on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg, the Q7 is a paragon of driving elegance and interior refinement. The Q7 rides on a longer wheelbase, however, and it has a more compliant ride than the Volkswagen and Porsche. The Q7 is also longer overall than the other two, and it is the only one to offer three-row seating.
Walkaround
The Audi Q7 like an Audi SUV should, is sort of like giant A6 wagon. In fact, the Q7 is even bigger than it looks.
For 2010, the grille is finished in glossy black with vertical chrome stiprs, and Audi's trademark LED eyebrows accompany the newly specified xenon headlights. The blunt front end features Audi's signature bold grille flanked by menacing headlights at the leading edge of the sculpted hood. A heavily stylized front end deftly helps mask the formidable mass of the Q7's nose. Fog lights are set into the lower moldings.
Crisp side-view styling with articulated fenders and an arching roofline also do much to visually lessen the generous dimensions of the Q7. The newly updated 2010 exterior mirrors and mirror housings are perhaps the largest we've ever seen on a vehicle in this class. They should come in very handy when towing. Two stylish, full-length metal rails on the roof provide anchor points for accessory crossbars for securing cargo on the roof.
The Q7 seats six or seven with the standard third-row seat. (A five-passenger version is no longer available.) A six-passenger arrangement is available with second-row bucket seats separated by a center console, and the third-row bench behind it.
The front bucket seats are superb with power adjustment in most directions. The driver's seat is comfortable and most drivers should find the driving position nearly perfect. Leather upholstery is standard on all models. Leather also covers the three-spoke steering wheel, which features redundant audio controls. Getting in and out is easy thanks to large doors and a reasonably low floor.
The second-row 40/20/40 split rear bench seat allows cargo and passenger flexibility. This bench seat allows second-row passengers to slide rearward up to four inches for extra legroom, and the second-row seatbacks are designed to recline up to 10 degrees for more relaxed comfort. A benefit of the bench seat is that there is no center console to get in the way when it's folded down for cargo.
The Q7 is available with up to six 12-volt power points, including one in the tailgate, as well as 10 cup holders, including molded bottle holders in each door.
Cargo space is on par with other luxury SUVs with three rows of seats. There isn't much space behind the third row, so hauling anything but groceries will likely require that at least one half of the 50/50 split third-row seat be folded away. But, thanks to the sliding second-row seats and flat-folding seat stowing, the Q7 makes the most of its 72.5 cubic feet of available space. Five-passenger models feature an additional storage compartment behind the rear seat.
Loading cargo into the Q7 is facilitated by a wraparound tailgate that reveals a very wide opening.
The Open Sky System is a full-length, three-panel panoramic glass moonroof that brightens the interior significantly. About 5.5 feet in length, the system consists of three tinted glass panels spanning all seating areas. The front section slides back over the fixed second section for full exposure for front seat occupants; another glass panel over the third-row seat and cargo area tilts up for added ventilation. A power retractable sunshade helps keep heat down on hot days.
Handling is superb for a vehicle of this size. The Q7 is only two inches shorter than a Cadillac Escalade and actually has a longer wheelbase. Nonetheless, it feels much smaller, reacting readily to quick changes of direction. Only in close-quarter handling, such as in parking lots or parallel parking, does the Q7's size become evident.
Summary
The Audi Q7 delivers luxury, comfort, safety, and capability. It offers significant towing and hauling capability and serious off-road performance. It seats seven and its tall roof provides generous headroom and a high seating position that commands an excellent view of the road ahead. The Q7 is richly infused with Audi's luxurious style and habitually high-grade interior materials and design.
