Hats off!

 We know Jake we saw

You might have faked 'em out

But we know the truth

After the whole year of wearing the Yankees in photos, Jake picks this one time to "officially" wear the Sox.  - Interesting isn't it.

Hey Jake,  Just do it.  Be who you want to be.

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox 2013 World Series Champions

Giving Thanks

Today many of us gathered around tables sharing what makes us thankful as we celebrated with family and friends  Thanksgiving.

One thing to be thankful for that was on my list was:

Jake ditching that damn Yankees cap

and going back to something  so much better!

Go Jake Go!

Today also gives me a chance to say THANK YOU! for all of you who come to OMG and for all the friendships that have been made through this little blog about two people who found the Big Love of a lifetime.

So many of you have been there to help  through stopping by, lending an ear, giving advice, sharing information, and just giving on going support.

Thank you so much!  I can't say it enough.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Let's Put on a Show

While it might be Jake's first time working off-Broadway, he has been going to Broadway shows since he was a kid.

Check out this out from a his recent interview with the NY Times:

"Growing up in Los Angeles, with frequent trips to New York to see relatives, Mr. Gyllenhaal was a theatergoer long before he stood on a stage himself. Sitting in nosebleed seats as a boy, he was dazzled by Patti LuPone vamping through the opening number 'I Get a Kick Out of You' in 'Anything Goes' for Lincoln Center Theater; he then promptly fell asleep. From other musicals he graduated to serious drama like 'Angels in America,' though mostly he went to school plays featuring Maggie, now 34."

[ You 've got to admit there's some irony that Jake reminisces of a childhood memory that involves Cole Porter, legend LuPone and Broadway ; ) ]

There isn't a video of LuPone doing the opening of "Anything Goes" but there is one of her doing the closing number for the Tony's.

Makes you wonder if Jake got the chance to catch the latest revival of the show (with Tony Award winning Sutton Foster who just moved on) and stayed awake.

We know that Jake has been and continues to be a big fan of musicals, so when is he going to do one? Come on Jake - you've put up with you wearing that damn hat, when are you finally going to do Damn Yankees?

Nobody puts Jakey in the corner...

Not really sure what the theater community in NYC is trying to protray Jake to be:

Backstage Mag has him looking:

Swept Away

Or on the losing side of sleep

and the Roundabout has him backed into a corner

What gives?

It's the hat isn't it.  They found out that is Yankees for show.

So they're going for some payback

Check out Jake's interview with Backstage here.

Speaking of the Yankees for show.   If Jake is fauxing it for them,  so are we correct with the assumption that Austin's is like GPS system?

Loud and clear???

Amidst a flurry of  tweets Jake has wrapped in Toronto, left Canada and head for NYC.

Official message received.
 Now back to reality.

Austin's Yankees cap.   Instead of a shout out could it be a hint of "where I am heading to next"

Well Jake will be in NYC for awhile with rehearsals for  If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet start July 24.    Preview performances begin August 24, with an official opening night on September 20 at off-Broadway’s Laura Pels Theatre. The production will play a limited engagement through November 25.

Austin you might have to go with a hoodie too,  Autumn in New York, beautiful, but chillier than Cali, Tex and Carolina.

Speaking of  If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet Jake's got the new leading lady in his life.   Meet Annie Funke (Austin no Arrested Development jokes) is has just been cast as Anna.

Annie  joins Jake (Uncle Terry), Michelle Gomez as her mom Fiona and Brian F. O’Byrne as her dad George.

Annie "has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray and in the San Francisco company of Wicked. She currently plays Catherine Martin in off-Broadway’s Silence! The Musical. Her additional theater credits include Steel Magnolias, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Fame, Grease, The Producers and Once Upon a Mattress."

Jakey can you say duets?   Broadway karaoke  Jake and Annie will take it.

Please Please please say we can do Dreamgirls!  But Effie is mine sista!

Hot Damn! Yankees

Now for a Sox fan to say anything nice about the Yankees it's got to be something amazing.

And amazing it is.

Austin at the premiere of LOL in France last night  (Source)

Now why would a good Southern Boy be wearing a Yankees cap?

Wouldn't he do the Texas Rangers?   Or LA Dodgers?

And when has Austin ever worn a baseball cap related to MLB?

So what's the deal?

Is he saying he's a  new New Yorker? (Because calling himself a Yankee could get him in 'sum big trouble in Texas)

Or could it be that he wanted to make sure everyone knew about a special New Yorker? And maybe that fella is there with him?

Update about Comic Con:  Jake is not participating in the EoW panel at Comic Con this weekend.   Maybe he has to work.... wait... maybe he has to get back to work.

Mad as a Hatter

That damn hat. How can Jake who says he's a Red Sox fan wear the Yankees. And to all you old school NY'er, Jake also has worn the Dodgers who of course started in Brooklyn and were the antithesis of the the Bronx Bombers.

It makes you want to grab it, stomp it and give a kick to the gutter. The hat people, the hat.

So why's Jake wearing it? Well there's has to be at least 10 (slightly amusing) reason why he might.

10. No pay but teaching ten classes of Soul Cycle and you get a free hat.

9. Try to get a little street cred for all the soccer dad driving a familly truckster demographic.

8. Wearing it in protest for the way the Sox have been playing this season.

7. Some told him he was their "little damn Yankee"

6. When WME told him they wanted him to get a little darker image he took it all the way to the Evil Empire ( Yankees)

5. If he can't have a LBD, he'll have a not so little black hat instead.

4. Going with a bandana seemed a little to Hankie.

3. It's the only hat that can get drawn on, chewed on, or spilled on and he doesn't care.

2. Won a bet against Jeter, he got the hat, instead of the beard.

And 1.
Because everyone knows black makes you everything appear smaller.

Still in the Minors

Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. But it might have to take awhile. Damn Yankees' got a ways to go.

While we've heard some of the changes in that director Todd Graff has in mind for the remake of Damn Yankees, from changing the Washington Senators to the Chicago Cubs, and adding steroids into deal with the Devil, it looks like Damn Yankees is still in the minors leagues, and no one's sure when they're moving up to the Big Show.

We've been hearing for a while about the remake of the musical story of a baseball fan who sells his soul to Devil has Jake and Jim Carey attached to it, but haven't really seen much since the 2009 baseball season.

"Man, this is–- this has been a conversation I don't know why I keep having," Gyllenhaal told MTV's Larry Carroll when asked about the project this past weekend at WonderCon in San Francisco. "I've definitely been fascinated by that musical for a very long time, but I guess it's still in development. Still being worked out. We'll see."

Part of the hold up might be that Carey was set to play Curly in the Farrelly Bro's remake of The Three Stooges. Carey was on a mission to gain the weight to be Curley to play in the trio with Sean Penn and Benico Del Torro, but the movie is another one seems stuck.

Maybe Gaff is just stuck finding word that rhyme with steroids?

Whenever they finally get to Spring Training, Jake won't have a problem with the singing. And Damn Yankees is not his first musical, being one of the contenders for Christian in Moulin Rouge.

"Yeah, I mean look man, I have been signing since I was a little kid. It's something I've done alongside acting–- probably singing longer than I was acting so I am confident in that," Gyllenhaal laughed. "My dancing, not so much. [But then] I never thought I'd swordfight either."

"We'll figure it out if need be."

Don't know about the dancing since we've heard tales of his dancing, from modern dance classes to dancing for Ellen, showing some moves in the clubs, doing his best Riverdance, and even doing a daring dance in the desert. Maybe if Graff get Madonna to do a song like Like a Prayer, or give him a Santa, it might help Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo.

Or it could be the Jake just wants to play a Washington Senator, instead of The Cubs, mean how could you not when one of their best plays was named Goose.
One thing, they better keep in mind, they keep holding this in the minors too long, The Cubs will finally win the World Series and then they've got nothing.

Wait a minute ... think they have plenty of time before that happens. (My apologies to any Cubs fans)

Play Ball!

It's Opening Day! And what else could you talk about on the first day of the baseball season but the Damn Yankees. Spare you the rant on those Yankees, and talk about the Damn Yankees, one OMG might be interested in, Damn Yankees: The Musical.

Jake must be doing his own Musical Theater Spring Training to get ready to play Joe Hardy the answer to the Washington Senators' prayers.

Damn Yankees is the story of real estate agent Joe Boyd, a long-suffering, middle-aged fan of the Washington Senators baseball team, as a new season opens. After his wife Meg has gone to bed, Joe suddenly meets a slick salesman, Mr. Applegate, who is in reality the Devil. Joe is convinced to sell his soul to the Devil to become the young and strong slugger Joe Hardy, the "long ball hitter the Senators need that he'd sell his soul for," and leaves his wife Meg . However, Joe's business sense makes him think of an escape clause: the Senators' last game is on September 25th, and if he chooses to play in that final game, he is "in for the duration"-he has until 9 o'clock that night to walk away from the deal and return to his normal life.

In baseball there are utility men, 5 tool players and designated hitters.

Utlility men in baseball, are those who can switch several positions.

A 5 tool player in baseball is one that has great speed, can hit for average, hit for power, a great throwing arm and is excellent defensively.

What's a 5 tool player for the movies? Act. Sing. Dance. What else?

And designated hitters? A bit controversial, and only existing in the American League, there only job is to step up to the plate and bring in the hits.

So what's Jake? Utility Man? 5 tool player? Designated Hitter?

(Oh I hear you saying switch hitter, but didn't give that to you as an option.)One suggestion to the studios - maybe make Jake Shirtless Joe instead of Shoeless Joe?

Uh, just a tip, no wooden bats in softball Jakey,

Too much Yankees, need some Red Sox. : )

Opening Day '04, in the Green Monster Seats from the Special K Cam.

About the same spot where Jake watched the game at Fenway.

The rest of the story....

Past few days these two stories have come out linked to Jake.

New Line Cinema is playing ball with Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal on "Damn Yankees," attaching both actors to star in a contemporized film transfer of the classic musical.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL made a runner from Marks And Spencers last week after being spotted buying ladies underwear.

Now how are they related?

Jason Giambi wears thong when in slump, shares it with teammates

DAILY NEWS STAFF Friday, May 16th 2008, 9:00 AM

Thongs a lot, Jason!

Yankee slugger Jason Giambi wears a gold lamé, tiger-stripe thong under his uniform when he wants to break out of a slump - and he shares it with hitless teammates who want to get back on track.

"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," he tells Portfolio.com. Over the years, the 37-year-old All-Star has left the "golden thong" in the lockers of slumping teammates Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robin Ventura and Robinson Cano.
"All of them wore it and got hits," he reports. "The thong works every time."

The rest of the story? It's gotta be Jake being the Red Sox fan he is, was just getting something to send to the Yankees for good luck for the upcoming baseball season. (cough cough) But will it become the curse of the Golden Giambi? Let's just hope. Go Sox.
