Little celebrations

Jake's long time friend Natalie Portman was married this weekend in Big Sur at a friend's house,

with just close friends after dark on Saturday night.

Think Jake and Co. could have been part of that celebration.  You'd think that such long time friends would be there.

Weddings of friends are part of those passages of time, you share with them their joy.

Think that was the only joy Jake was celebrating this weekend?

Ohhh the Olympics... the joy of the gymnastics?  swimming? water polo?

Out Spotlight

The Olympics motto is "Faster, Higher, Stronger" but they might want to add Prouder.  This past week during the Olympics another athlete competing in The Games came out.   Today's Out Spotlight is Olympian archer Karen Hultzer.

Karen Hultzer was born September 16, 1965 in Cape Town, South Africa and represents South Africa in The Games in archery.

Hultzer began archery in 2007 and competed in her first National tournament in March 2008. She won a silver medal at the 2008 Nationals and a Gold medal at the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Nationals.
She first represented South Africa at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China in August 2009 and subsequently represented the country at the World Championships and other World Cup stages.

She made her first public statement regarding her sexuality to online LGBT sports blog OutSports.com this past week.

Tips from readers on various websites listing out Olympians said that   Hultzer's partner Tracey Kim Saunders made to South African gay lifestyle website, MambaOnline.

On the website Saunders told MambaOnline that Hultzer "is happy to be identified as a gay athlete."

According to  OutSports, Hultzer had reportedly originally declined commenting on her sexuality because "she was wary of talking for fear that she might get distracted by more media attention ahead of the potential conclusion of her competition on Aug. 3."

She had never publicly acknowledged her sexual orientation. Until now.
Hultzer reach out to Outsports after realizing the cat was out of the bag. She told them to "go wild." and gave them her first public statement about her sexual orientation:
I am an archer, middle aged and a lesbian. I am also cranky before my first cup of coffee. None of these aspects define who I am, they are simply part of me. I am fortunate that my sexual identity is not an issue, and I don’t suffer the level of discrimination and violence that black lesbians in South Africa do. I look forward to the day when this is a non-issue and as relevant as my eye color or favorite sushi.

Perhaps with her partners comment -- or because she was no longer competing, she was eliminated from the competition last Monday, after being defeated by Pia Lionetti of Italy she felt it the time was right.

Hultzer is one of a few openly LGBT Olympians competing this summer, she raised that number to 22, and is the only archer.

In the Beijing Games (2008) there were 10 openly gay or lesbian athletes and in Athens (2004) there were 11. Almost all the athletes on the 2012 list are from Europe, the US and Australia; reflecting the continued challenges and stigma faced by many LGBT people in other parts of the world.

She is also only the second South African Summer Olympian to come out in history, following beach volleyballer Leigh-Ann Naidoo in 2004. Hultzer is the only openly gay competitor from the African continent in this years games.

Knit one, Pearl Too?

 Welcome to the show Austin

Hey Jake , welcome to the show

I'm admiring your tie is that a knit?

I think it is.

You know you have to appreciate a tie that you can make yourself.  I can fold a napkin into a tie, but that really doesn't count.  It's just in case I dribble while drinking.

You know Jake that tie looks really familiar.

Are you saying I've wearing somebody's tie?

Well I remember liking Austin's that's all I'm saying.

Did he knit yours too?  Or were you taking up  knitting  ties?

This is your first late night interview  isn't it Austin.  You know it customary to bring the host a gift when you come on.

Ahhhh wellll....

You know Jake brought me a gift. My very own Lego.

Well let's see I could send you Season 8 of OTH,  or give you the only season of JFC... but Jimmy you look like you're more of a Holiday in the Sun type of guy.

You mean Jake didn't get a Lego of you?  Wow, I feel special then.

You could give me your tie.

Well I can't give it to you per se,  but could get you one I guess.

Are you going to make Jake knit me one?

Austin said he could give me his tie.  It is because it's yours ? Or did he just borrow yours when he came here?

Well Jimmy it's like this.... Ties have been around one form or another for thousands of years.  I was just reading a book about them.

Nice try Jake.

So Lego's.   Hey I like Lego's - Let' Play Jimmy

Mummmmm...

Jake was seen last night backstage at the Mumford & Son's show, along with Carey Mulligan and Emma Watson.

Of course Carey is supporting her newlywed husband.  Emma hanging out with people who speak proper English.  And Jake?  Well that seems to need a top ten list.

The Top Ten Reasons Jake was backstage at the Mumford & Son Show

10. Jay-Z and Kayne out of town and Jake was tired to Watching the Throne with no one on it.

9. Riding the subway earlier made him jonesing for a Railroad Revival.

8. Too much hip hop lately needed some banjos.

7. Heard Emma was going and wanted to see if there really was an alternative ending to the Harry Potter movie, like he saw on some tumblr.

6. Out back to school shopping, heard their song on the radio, and just found himself ending up there.

5. The black and camo too much, he wanted to remember a lighter time when it was light and tan.

4.Needed some quiet time, and the Mumford Show was quieter than at home most nights.

3. Knew they would have great organic snacks and no one would make fun of his kale chip creation.

2.Needed to keep his ear for his English accent for the play,  so he hung out with a bunch of Brits to make his more confusing to pinpoint.

And the number 1 reason

1. Wanted to blow something

Waiting to Exhale....

Austin shows how long he can hold his breath underwater.

On land he's been holding his breath for what ....how many years? 5? 10?

 Fencing

Not with the foil, the sabre and the epee for the OMG version.  Although Jake could wear the mask like he did in the video,

and Austin could be the Fencewalker (When is that movie ever coming out?!?) if they want .

This fencing is tandem fence walking that fine line before falling off or taking a side.
