Out Spotlight

This past week during the Supreme Court review of marriage equality, a US national newscaster came out and announce her relationship with a fellow news correspondent and the news they were expecting a child. Today's Out Spotlight is Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk.

Jenna Wolfe was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and at the age of five, moved to P├ętion-Ville, Haiti, where she grew up. Her family moved to the U.S. in 1989, and she graduated from Binghamton University with a B.A. in French and English in 1996. She began her journalism career that same year as a news and sports reporter for Binghamton’s Fox affiliate, WICZ, later serving as the sports anchor at WHUF in Rochester, followed by a stint as the first female sportscaster at WB affiliate WPHL in Philadelphia. She is fluent in English, French and Creole.

From 2002 to 2004, she was a reporter-anchor on MSG SportsDesk, a program on the MSG Network, and then moved to ABC, where she spent three years as both a weekend anchor for Eyewitness News this Morning and sports reporter. She joined NBC’s Today as a correspondent in 2007, and served as co-anchor on Weekend Today from 2007-2012, before being demoted to news anchor in a move that reportedly didn’t go over too smoothly. Wolfe is an admitted sports nut who loves skydiving, waterskiing, and racquetball.

Stephanie Gosk graduated from Georgetown University with an economics degree and served time in the Peace Corps.  She began her journalism career as an off-air producer for ABC News, covering the 2000 presidential election. She later served as a producer at ABC, producing and reporting stories on the Iraq War while embedded overseas with the U.S. military, as well as stories on Hurricane Katrina. Gosk moved over to NBC News as a correspondent in 2006, and has covered everything from the death of Osama Bin laden from Pakistan to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

They have been together for three years and Wolfe, who the couple decided would carry the child, recently underwent artificial insemination with an anonymous donor.

Last week Wolfe went on The Today Show to talk about her relationship and their baby on the way.

“We were constantly on the road, juggling a thousand balls at once,” Wolfe told People. “It's a miracle we got it all together.”

They are expecting their first child, a girl,  August 27th.

“This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us,” Wolfe told People. “But I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is.”

Bunny Up

Why can't I wear it?

Because it's the Easter Bunny....not the Easter Dog.

Well Snoopy was the Easter Beagle.

And he danced with the bunnies and gave out eggs.

Sorry but he was beagle and you sir are a Dalmatian.

But Snoopy has spots.

One!  and Not a Dalmation!

Don't go away huffy .... I'll be your bunny

With the heels?

For you the ears, and the tail.

Hopping down the bunny trail.

 Yup Mr. Nichols,  we've noticed

You are the good Southern gentleman  your mama raised to be

Or the Stuart Minkus one

The real life version

Well here's a few more to add to it

If that watch gets any bigger Jake would have had to wear it around his neck like Flavor Flav

That hair kinda looks familiar

A few years later it will be a slick back

Musical Jake  has the upright and locked position on that 'do. Here in the King and I

Since we know Jake loves musicals here's a Passover treat

What do you get when you combine Passover with Les Mis?

Usually in Pairs

What do you get when you goof around with your friend the photographer/director and instagram?

You get this.

Or as Mr. Sullivan might have said ..... We've got a really big shooooooeeee.
Matthew had been Jake's assistant for four of his earliest movies ( Donnie Darko, Moonlight Mile , Bubble Boy and TDAT) and it looks like that is how Austin first met his now friend of over a decade.

Yup a decade, friends with the pair for over a decade and that's no Croc.

Hide and Seek

Jake's back hiding the Afikomen

Tonight was the first night of Passover and the first seder which is usually spent with family.  Subsequent seders during Passover are shared with friends and family.

And if Jake hid it again this year,  you wonder who was the lucky one who found it. Or maybe this year, Jake joined the group looking for the Afikomen and left the hiding to someone Tall.

Happy Pesach!

Out Spotlight

Today's Out Spotlight highlight two brave young men who have spoken out this week before the historic decisions made by the US Supreme Court over Proposition 8 and the Defensive of Marriage Act.

Oh and they are both 12 years old.

Today's Out Spotlight is  Daniel Martinez and Matthew Lannon.

Daniel Martinez is from California and was adopted by a gay couple.   He wrote a deeply personal letter to Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts, the father of adopted children himself.

Martinez, suffers from a genetic disorder affecting the left side of his face, he urges Roberts to strike down California's Proposition 8. He speaks from child who was blessed to be adopted to father who choose to adopt. He says his fathers provided him and his sister with a wonderful life when no one else wanted to, and their family should be treated no differently than others.

This is what Daniel's dad posted with the video:

" So our kids know that Prop 8 is coming to the Supreme Court soon and that could be a very big deal for our family. When they found out that one of the Justices hearing the case had two adopted children, they said, 'Hey! They're just like us!'...and so, in a moment that made his dads very proud, Daniel decided to write a letter to Justice Roberts in the hopes that he will see that our families are not so different."

Here's Daniel reading what he wrote to the Supreme Court Justice.

Matthew Lannon joined 600 others testifying before a Rhode Island state Senate committee this past Thursday evening at a hearing in support of legalizing same sex marriage.

The sixth grader with two moms and two dads said :

In many ways my parents are like other couples. All they want is to be treated fairly. But unlike most of you, they have to come again here year after year and explain over and over why their love is equal to yours. This year, you have the opportunity to change that. I say, choose love.”

These two young men show the common bonds of family whatever kind of family is,  straight, gay, blended, adopted -   it is love.   Loving parents and loving families.   They also show the future.  Not only should their families be proud but the country as well.

So who is the dark haired, taller long limb fella to Jake's right?

Who fits that description and happens to be from Austin?

Girlfriend's a Boyfriend

Back in the beginning of Austin's stint on OTH, he joined friend Hilarie on her project from Southern Gothic the short The True-Love Tale of Boyfriend & Girlfriend.

Austin well he was name Girlfriend....  and grrrrl..... he is one great Girlfriend

Sweet,  quirky and out of the box, it fit Austin perfectly

While his newest role of Tommy isn't that, it does have that twist to it that Austin sees to gravitate towards.

And thank goodness for that.

Working for the Law again?

Jake's had lots of roles that involve the law.  But could he be stepping into Jude Law's recently abandoned role?

Let's just say it's been a very bad week for Jake's friend Natalie Portman.  And it's about her-starring western Jane Got A Gun.

On Tuesday the director Lynn Ramsay didn't show on the first day of shooting, leaving the whole cast and crew wondering what's going on. In steps in Warriors' director Gavin O'Connor the very next day to take on the job, but then it happened again when lead Jude Law, who just joined the cast last week, decided he wasn't doing it either and dropped out. So now the new director and the producers  are scrambling a bit now to find a replacement  for Jude and the buzz coming out of Hollywood is that  there is a short list of three names that they are looking at:

The Los Angeles Times has revealed the shortlist of actors being considered and the variety might surprise you. Theirs sources say that at the moment they are looking at Jake, Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges as possible options.  Jake and Tobey have both worked with Natalie and Jeff's Oscars are enticing. All all have Western experience with BBM, Ride with The Devil and True Grit respectively.

Based on a 2011 Black List screenplay written by Brian Duffield, the  film is about a woman (Portman) whose outlaw husband (Joel Edgerton)has run into trouble with a local gang. Realizing that their lives are in danger, the woman is forced to reach out to a former lover for help. It is the former lover part they are scrambling to fill.

The buzz is that Tobey is in the lead and many are confident he could pull it off.   Jeff , older than the other two guys, could change the direction of the movie a bit.

But the biggest question is how could Jake step in the role? Isn't he still filming Prisoners?  Would Jane start shoot and work around his schedule until he's done?   And finally could he squeeze it in between Prisoner's and Mississippi Grind?
