Another Serving

Yesterday, without publicists, announcements, press releases, or fanfare, Jake made some news and helped make a difference.

After seeing this video for Generation Food,  Jake sent them a letter to share.

Dear Friend,

We have a lot of concerns about climate change, hunger and Big Food, it’s easy to get discouraged. That’s why I was so inspired when I saw the trailer for Steve James’ and Raj Patel’s Generation Food Project.

The great ideas that they’re pulling together from around the world are a light in dark times. It’s their last day of crowdsourcing – why not chip in $5 and help them meet their goal?

I love that they’re finding amazing stories from around the world that speak to each other. Generation Food is more than just a film or a book, it is a community of people who want to make lasting change, here and abroad, now and for generations to come. Please join me in supporting
them today.

Yours,

And in doing so Jake helped them exceed their goal of $50,000 to over $60,000 yesterday.
Generation Food is about seeding "thousands of projects to feed the world!"  They are creating a new book and documentary, with Steve James and Raj Patel,"telling stories from around the world, about how to fix our broken food system."
"We want to build a community of ideas to feed the world sustainably and with justice in the twenty first century. We know, it feels overwhelming. How will we grow enough to feed the 9 billion people expected by 2050? What will we grow, and where will we grow it? With the sweat of whose brow? Using what kinds of science and technology? How will we make it resilient to climate change? And how will we make sure that everyone at the table gets to eat a fair share?"

Just like with New Eyes, and other causes important to him , Jake is not about using a cause to increase his celebrity, but using his celebrity to help a cause.

Star Light, Star Can't Shine Bright?

Does Jake have to dim so that another star can shine?

You know what is missed - Jake's activism. Yes. he signed a kite for the Kite Runner and gave a lunch with him for the ACLU . But it is things like , Jake championing Get out to Vote like did in the past election. We know Jake is politically and socially active - he was raised in a politically and social conscious home, are we just not allowed to see that anymore? Has that been taken off the table by TPTB? Or did he decide that on his own? Is he not allowed to outshine the People's Choice activism? It just seems like Jake is not allowed to show the well rounded confident man that he was, for fear it will distract from the shiny star next to him.
