Met You There

She never told me it would be like this.

I was wearing Jared's Oscar outfit

One of the Olesons think I copied their hair.

Kiki showed up wearing the Death Star.

And other two showed up too

And I was my sister's date.

So what do you do when you have to take you sister to the ball and not your  prince charming?

Dress like them.

At least I got to keep my shoes.

Yes, I left the dress at coat check.

Alan Cumming was born January 27, 1965 in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland and grew up on the east coast of the country in the village of Angus , the son of a forester (his father Alex) and a secretary (his mother Mary). He attended Monikie Primary School and Carnoustie High School.  As a teenager, he began appearing in high school plays and local theater productions.

Following graduation, he spent a year and a half employed as an editor and columnist for the pop and TV magazine TOPS before entering the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow where he received a B.A. in dramatic studies.

After graduation, he worked in Scottish theater and television before moving to London. In 1985, he married fellow acting student Hilary Lyon. The couple divorced eight years later.

In London, Cumming performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He received two Olivier Awards, including Best Actor in a Musical for playing the Emcee in “Cabaret.” In 1998, he reprised this role on Broadway, receiving a Tony Award for his performance. He returned to role for the 2014 revival of the musical co-staring Michelle Williams.

Cumming’s many film credits include “Golden Eye,” “Emma,” “Eyes Wide Shut,” “Nicholas Nickleby,” “X2,” and “Burlesque.” On television, he has appeared on “Frasier,” “The L Word,” “Sex and the City,” Logo’s “Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World,” and on the hit series “The Good Wife” as conniving campaign manager Eli Gold.

In March 2005, Cumming received the Vito Russo Award at the 16th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for outstanding contributions toward eliminating homophobia. Also in 2005 he was presented with the HRC's Humanitarian Award in San Francisco, also for his LGBT public stance. He contributes opinion pieces to many publications and performed a cabaret show entitledI Bought A Blue Car Today. In 2013, he brought a one-man Macbeth to the stage, playing all parts of the Shakespearean masterpiece.

Retaining his British citizenship, Cumming became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2008.

While was once described as "a frolicky pansexual sex symbol for the new millennium," Cumming publicly stated in 2013 that he considers himself bisexual, "although the pendulum has obviously swung." His previous relationships include his eight-year marriage to actress Hilary Lyon, a two-year relationship with actress Saffron Burrows, and a six-year relationship with theater director Nick Philippou, before meeting his longtime partner and now husband Grant Shaffer, a graphic artist.

Derby'd Up

Back on the color wheel

It can't be Derby Day

without it being in the pink.

OMG can't have Austin missing out on his pink hat day.

In fact OMG is a big fan of the Tall Texan going pink:

And over the years we've done pink hats

and pink somberos for Cinco de Derby

 We've given Austin pink socks

And gone pink for Two Wheel Tuesday

 And Austin's done his part.

He  traded the hat and julep for a snug shirt and shot

May we suggest this Derby Day you're all set with the bourbon

grab some mints

and  just save the horse ride the cowboy

Ohh and yes someone did a pink hat for (well Pre-) Derby

But we know Austy - you thought of it first.

 Go Go Wicked Strong!

From Beverly MA, Wicked Strong was renamed after the bombing last year, and over the year Wicked Strong's owners have donated 1% of their winnings to the One Fund to help those impacted by the bombing.  But for the Triple Crown, the owners have said they will be donating 5% of their purse.

At 6 to 1 Wicked Strong has the second best odds to win.

Happy Derby Day!

Book Club

Jake at the James Baldwin Discussion at Columbia University.

Jake and Colm Toibin lead a discussion on James Baldwin's book Another Country, as part of  Columbia University's year long celebration of James Baldwin.

Who hasn't seen this look during a lecture

I'm not going up there unless you're going up there.
Colin and Jake discussing the book.

A tweet said that one of the passages Jake read was a sex scene.  But knowing Baldwin - was it gay, straight, or all comers?

Yup!  I know the answer to that.

Jake doing what he does best when making a point

Did you think you would get just scholar discussion?  Think again !  The funny expressions are free.

Jake is sporting some new hardware - a new bracelet.

He'd have to lose the beard, but there something about picture makes him look like he's back in school (elementary, my dear Jakeson)

It could be a show - Two Guys and a Table!
