No more one man show

With a week to go before filming begins, An Enemy has announced the rest of the cast.

It looked like for a while Jake would be doing a one man show but ScreenDaily has the exclusive announcement about who his co-stars will be:

Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon and Isabella Rossellini have joined Jake Gyllenhaal on the cast of Pathe’s Cannes buzzer An Enemy, described by director Denis Villeneuve as “an existential erotic thriller.”

Gyllenhall plays Adam, a history teacher living a quiet life with his girlfriend (Laurent) until he discovers his physical double (who lives with his wife, played by Gadon). The two men’s lives become intertwined precipitating a lethal struggle.

Melanie Laurent is French actress best known for her role as Shosanna Dreyfus in Quentin Tarantino's film Inglourious Basterds. She will be playing the history teacher's girlfriend.

Sarah Gadon is a Canadian actress who got her start in television. Her first role was in and episode of La Femme Nikita. Recently she was in David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis. She plays the actor's wife.

And actress Isabella Rossillini is the daughter of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini. Probably best known for her role as the tortured lounge singer Dorothy Vallens in David Lynch's film Blue Velvet.

Rossillini will play the history teacher's mother. That has the potential for all kind of weirdness. Especially if she shows up like a duck, anchovy, or snail. Her series of shorts for the Sundance Channel Green Porno, (NSFW)recreated the mating behavior of nature. Although if she did dress up like one of her bug characters the whole thing could go Kafka and Freudian at the same time.

Still not sure who the audience is for this movie. It seems more art house than mainstream. It looks like Jake is going back to his indie roots.

Jake and his "twin" blocking a scene at the medical center. Jake's got his twin's look down right to the shoes. : D

*Hey one WME you may want make sure they spell your client's name right. You don't want to have it misspelled in the releases. Oops too late.

More art house than mainstream? Maybe. But very Oscar buzzish.

LOVE Isabella Rossillini.

Interesting that Melanie Laurent is often mistaken in the American press and mixed up by movie-goers with Lea Seydoux. And they're friends, right?

Perhaps Jake is a producer for this movie and has been working behind the scenes on it, including casting his co-stars, for awhile. Also makes it possible that the co-worker Toothy Tile shacked up with in a hotel for a few days was a co-worker on this project, not some past project.

In any case, it appears that Austin has forgiven Jake enough to eat burgers with him. Hope they are on the mend!

LOL - dream on.

I had no idea Chef Cat Cora was so accomplished or that she and her partner were raising so many beautiful children. You haven't lived--If you working folks have a moment:) try to check out the two cooking channels--until you've seen Chef Cora in an Iron Chef challenge.
WOW! She's an amazing woman...and we all know how tough it is for Female Chefs.

TY for the Jake IFC commercial...I had no idea it was a commercial. I love it. Jake is a hella actor as is Austin.

I'm using my time to enjoy what I like and to hell with everything else.

I'm overjoyed with President Obama’s announcement and with how he's upended all the homophobic black ministers!
YAY OBAMA!!

My dear son has given up on the Fundie church he joined or should I say his 24 years older Cougar gf led him to join. I hate the Cougar term, except that this older woman was influencing him to join a homophobic church.

He will not believe he is going to hell for normal sexual activity, performed in private, that is a natural as having a glass of water when you're thirsty, or that he is going to hell for looking a woman too closely. I TOLD him those things but everyone has to learn for themselves.

And he refuses to believe that God created humans to be second class citizens.

Because he was intimately involved with this horrid church he also memorized most of the Bible...Asperger’s folks do that… and explained all that to me using chapters and verses from memory...whew:) and then told me how those scriptures promote homophobia...of course I can't remember them…and that he feels the church will not let go of those scriptures from God anytime soon, therefore he had to leave.

I am trying to encourage him to visit our original church--The Episcopal liberal wing--but he's too disillusioned right now and declares himself a humanist…that's OK by me.

He told me that Jake is Buddhist ....there is not an activity labeled sin in that faith...or so he told me.

So glad to hear Jake is back to what made him the star that he is...Indies...YAY!!

Yes, great Out Spotlight on Mother's Day.

I agree Sass, the way religion and scripture is interpreted by some is way off the mark IMO - selective, self-serving interpretation of scripture and not the big picture. God created everyone and every being, and diversity is the divine plan. Hooray for President Obama as well.

Enemy sounds really different and exciting.

This movie sounds even more promising, love Isabella too.

I'm happy for you Sass that your son has given up on the fundie church. IMO those places really twist the gospel, and they always seem more concerned with demonizing people than with helping anyone.

I like Rossillini. I still can vividly remember Blue Velvet. Lynch -often understood, but a master at his craft.

I knew that she dated Lynch, and Gary Oldman (around the time of working on Immortal Beloved) but I had completely forgotten that she was married to Scorese.

If you get a chance check out the Green Porno short film series she did on Sundance. Odd, sometimes slight disturbing, but informative and imaginative. Sometimes you just stare speechless, wonder WTH?!?!?!?

Just one thought: If Enemy is an existential erotic thriller, shouldn't Jake just go for it have sex with himself? It's that the ultimate level of existentialism? Besides being ultimate narcissism?

Awesome song - Tumbling dice. Sing it, Mick.

I'll let you all discuss the actors and movies; you all know it's not my bag. I can tell already this one is not getting my $8-10 bucks either nor will it get my Best Buy giftcard money either, lol. Just not my cup of tea at all. PG's hard-earned money is no longer going towards supporting closet expenditures.

Which is why at this point, I seriously doubt I'll be in NYC this year to go see his play. You guys'll have to toast without me! Maybe once the guys are out and he does a another play at that time, Lord willing I'm still alive and able to walk, then I will be happy to attend.

Well, I'm off to catch the absolutely hilarious Seinfeld double feature on TBS West. It's one of my all-time favorites - the last 2 episodes where the whole gang gets arrested for failing to help out the guy whose car was stolen and they all go to trial. LOLLLLLL - it's a killer and has the superstar cast of all their classic characters.

Oh oh, well I guess Harold Hecuba is going to have to go, isn't he? Awww, I loved Harold Hecuba!!

Pathé International has added cast to its psychological thriller An Enemy. Jake Gyllenhaal had already been set for the Denis Villeneuve-directed film that starts shooting next week in Toronto. Isabella Rossellini is now aboard with Inglourious Basterds‘ Mélanie Laurent and Cosmopolis‘ Sarah Gadon. Gyllenhaal plays a history teacher living a quiet life with his girlfriend until he discovers a physically identical man living nearby with his pregnant wife. The teacher stalks his double until the couples’ lives become intertwined with lethal consequences. Javier Gullón adapted José Saramago’s book The Double for the screen. Producers are Niv Fichman and Miguel Faura. Pathé has French and UK rights with Alliance handling Canada. Pathé International is selling foreign. WME is repping the US.

'Bold and the Beautiful' Star Joanna Johnson: I'm Gay

Actress Joanna Johnson of The Bold and the Beautiful, who plays Karen Spencer, has come out of the closet, making her the only out star currently in TV soaps.

JohnsonShe tells TV Guide:

Daytime is a whole different world than primetime or theater or film. There's a greater intimacy between the viewers and the characters. They think you are your character. And that creates a lot of fear. Fear of rejection. I was so worried I wouldn't be employable as an actress if people knew I was a lesbian. Or that I wouldn't be believable in romance stories. I had to deal with a lot of self-loathing...

...I'm married to [L.A. club promoter] Michelle Agnew and we have two beautiful children, Julian, who is five, and Harlow, who is two. And now we're finding out that Karen is married to this great lady Dani [Crystal Chappell] and together they have raised her daughter Caroline [Linsey Godfrey]. So times have certainly changed. I guess that's why I'm ready to open up. It feels weird and wrong to play this revelation about Karen's life and not talk about my own. I used to hang out with Ellen Degeneres, k.d. lang and Melissa Etheridge back in the day and thought it was so beautiful they were out, even though I didn't have the nerve. When I realized I was gay in my early twenties we didn't have role models like Ellen. I'm not anywhere near as famous as those ladies, but I guess it's my turn to do my little part. It's time to live a fully authentic life.

Great to see more people comfortable about coming out.

The new film sounds very intruiging. Too soon to tell if its good or not. Not even filmed yet. But its great to see Jake branch out and take a risk. baby steps.

Joanna is beautiful. So many people are taking the step. It makes other folks like Jake and Austin look so bad. It is not like they dont have the full support of family and friends. Of course they do. But it is getting to a point that there are so many others to be proud of and admire that Jake and Austin are becomming irrelevant. They must be so miserable at times.
