Out Spotlight XXXXV

Today's Out Spotlight is highlight the effort for Uniting the World against AIDS

These are the goals of the World Health Organization, UNAIDS project and UNICEF in the Universal Access for HIV/AIDS Worldwide.

Towards universal access: Scaling up priority HIV / AIDS interventions in the health sector is the second in a
series of annual progress reports developed by WHO, UNAIDS and UNICEF to monitor the health-sector
response to HIV / AIDS. It documents health-sector progress towards:

• Treatment and care, including antiretroviral therapy (ART), management of HIV/TB co-infection and
other co-morbidities;

• HIV testing and counselling;

• Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), in health care settings, and of sexual HIV
transmission and transmission through injecting drug use;

• Health systems issues, including drug procurement and supply management, human resources and
health information.

The Epidemic is still here we are doing better, but better is not good enough.

The AIDS epidemic today

An estimated 33 million people [30.3 – 36.1 million] were living with HIV in 2007. There
were 2.7 million [2.2 – 3.2 million] new HIV infections and 2 million [1.8 – 2.3 million]
AIDS-related deaths last year.

The rate of new HIV infections has fallen in several countries, but globally these
favourable trends are at least partially offset by increases in new infections in other
countries.

Globally, women account for half of all HIV infections—this percentage has remained
stable for the past several years.

The global percentage of adults living with HIV has levelled off since 2000. In virtually all
regions outside sub-Saharan Africa, HIV disproportionately affects people who inject
drugs, men who have sex with men and sex workers.

Support and participation is still needed.

  • Support with your giving of both time and money
  • Speak with your vote
  • Seek information about what going on.

While we have made strides in HIV prevention and treatment, there is still no cure for AIDS.

No matter how many celebrities and physicians and health workers and organizations speak out about this and what needs to be done, it starts with you. You are the only person that is in control of your future. Practice safe sex, find out out about your sexual partners, and get tested. Remember you are in charge of your life. The decisions you make are yours alone. It starts with you, your life and your impact.

Filming with Friends

All this talk about Austin not sticking around. FALSE!

Bucked by the Beek? No way.

Austin is sticking around One Tree Hill for a while.
And we have the proof.

Now its a spoiler not a big one but a mini one. Just so your warned.
Its a part of a casting side script for a small part in Episode 6.012 but in it we see a tiny scene between Julian and Brooke. And who would that be Austin and friend Sophia Bush. Will settle your immediate thought, no, there is no mention of magical floating shoes.

Austin is a lucky duck getting to film with friends either ones from his past (Sophia) or the ones he makes while on set. ; ) That always make things so much more fun.

But you do wonder what the long time friends chat about when the cameras stop rolling? Catching up on what's happening with the family? What movie you watched? Where to find a good taco and beer at 2AM? What's the best beach to escape too?

Sophia has been working in Wilmington for the past 6 years so she's got the scoop on the scene in Wilmington, but don't count Mr. Nichols out, sure that the time spent in NC shoot Surface he scooped out a few funky places of his own. But they're pros they are talking about making their scene work even better before tacos and beaches, right.

So wait a minute! ... last February during fashion week wasn't just friends hanging out but it was research too? Austin had to get that sense of a hip independent producer and Sophia was researching for her Brooke's Clothes Over Bros clothing line? Commitment. Serious about the craft.

OMG's Discussion of JFC Episode 2 His Visit: Day Two
Starts TONIGHT, at 5:00pm EST
And runs all day tomorrow Saturday October 18th.

The early bird gets the .....

Beek?

There are conflicting reports out about James Van Der Beek on OTH. Former Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek, will be making a guest-appearance on an upcoming episode of One Tree Hill that's clear.

But some outlets are saying he's replacing Austin in the role as Julian Beckett, and others are saying he's playing a director interesting in Lucas' book. Austin plays an independent producer interested in making Lucas' book into a movie, but also has a past connection to Peyton. It is doubtful that Van Der Beek is replacing Austin since Austin has been seen on set and in production still for Episode 6.08. and 6.09.

The news on OTH boards is that Jame will return to Wilmington this month to shoot an episode of One Tree Hill that will air in late November.

But could there be a connection between Beek's character and Austin - is he the one who knows about Julian's past with Peyton? Could director Dawson Leary be looking for work? Would Dawson blab about Julian and Peyton much like he did about Joey and Pacey and Jen all those years on The Creek?

And why Van Der Beek? "Says OTH creator/executive producer Mark Schwahn, 'The specter of Dawson's Creek is always around us. We're about to [complete] 128 episodes, which is what Dawson's did. So I thought it would be cool to get James.' "

Upcoming One Tree Hill Episodes

Episode 6.08 “Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe”

Episode 6.09 "Sympathy for the devil"

Gardening 101

Now what you do is you just use seeds - part of story, a phrase, or a just a word to plant.

You mean like tiny? he's so supportive? I'm very lucky?

Exactly - see how easy it is. Now you just throw it out there, sometimes we plant it a little deeper in some places so doesn't get eaten up before rooting.

Then what?

Well compost - ok mostly manure is spread on top. A good thick layer. And maybe a few worms in the mix.

Can't there be too much, I'm mean it could just suffocate everything.

Not for this garden. There's never too much manure

Ok whatever, it just seems like overkill.

Now soon with some bright lights, maybe some artificial heat and some water something always comes up.

How soon? How do you know what your gonna get.

Ah that's where the pros like us come in. You let everything come in and then decide if its need to be weeded it out or tend it more to make it bigger.

Is there stuff that pops up that you don't want?

Of course - we just pull it out and sometimes just slip a prepackage plant in its place.

Smart thinking, I guess.

Hey that's what we do.

What kind of garden is those supposed to be?

It's a show garden of course, something like this doesn't happen on its own. But the beauty of it is that it looks like its natural.

It kind of doesn't look that.

Listen enough people will think this this just happened that's enough. Amateurs of course. The pros know what it takes to get this, and some know it all green thumbs.

And does it spread and grow?

Of course its bright and happy and everything everyone thinks is what a garden should be. So all these birds and bees are attracted to it and they spread for us. No work, they do it all.

What happens if it cross pollinates and turns into something different?

If we like it we work with them, if we don't we just claim it never came from us or ignore it.

And over there? What's that? That yellow rose?

Oh that well that's Jake's little patch. There's nothing we can do with that, that damn shrub won't go, doesn't fade, and never needs pruning. It's always there.

Is that another little bud on it?

Just leave it be, we have too much work to do on the high maintenance one we have. Here just put more, more manure near the side of it, maybe people won't notice.

What the heck? How did this get in here?

What what is it?

Damn Charentais!

Damn what?

Charentais - French melons. I'm going to kill Jake. Oh he thinks if he can sneak that in and no one notices.

Chance the Gardner/Chauncey Gardiner strikes back.

P.S. I've hijacked the music for next few days. Please forgive me Wicked.

Now you can name this tune but can you name the movie? What Jake movie was this song in? You know movie man Austin knows.

Austin's NetFlix

For some Wilmington they want to check up on its the beach, or golf course, or Screen Gems studio, one of the largest studios outside of Hollywood in the U.S., but a film buff like Austin, it might inspire him to get on his Netflix. Why?

The movie - Cape Fear. The classic with Gregory Peck and the original Hollywood bad ass Robert Mitchum. The story of small-town lawyer Sam Bowden (Peck) who's life becomes torturous when Max Cady (Mitchum) re-enters his life. Cady went to jail for 8 years after Bowden testified that Cady attacked a young woman. Now that Cady has been released, he begins to terrorize Bowden and his family, particularly targeting Bowden's daughter, Nancy. Initially, Cady uses his newfound knowledge of the law (learned in prison) to annoy and seek his revenge. A true masterpiece Of revenge.

Gregory Peck, who produced the film, didn't like the original novel's title "The Executioners". When thinking of a new title, he decided that movies named after places tended to be very successful, so he looked at a map of the U.S. until he happened upon Cape Fear in North Carolina.

Cape Fear was remade in 1991 by Martin Scorsese staring Nick Nolte as Sam Bowden and Robert DeNiro as Max Cady along with a young Juliette Lewis as Sam's daughter. This time Cady served 14 years for his crime and spent the time seeking his revenge on Bowden and his family. DeNiro put in a truly terrifying performance as Cady. Both DeNiro and Lewis were nominated for Academy awards for their role. Scorsese paid homage to the original casting both screen legends Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum in the remake.

What do you think he's got both logged into his film journal already?
