Tie in

Jake was charming as ever on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Obsessed with Jimmy's cape tie, Kimmel could not resist the power of Jakey, and cut it off.

It wasn't all about Source Code, Jake talked about his birthday, helping his mom finding her a date (turning the tables, Jake?), Ikea Swedish meatballs, Grandparents ribbon candy, and what happens when you're not Oprah in Australia.

Jake also told a funny story about his best friend, his tie and yeah baby, and the BAFTAs, that made people wonder if they were a couple.

Anyone else think it was a kind of trail balloon?

Jake told how his mom got him a rare Banksy print for his 30th birthday.

Hmmm what's a little Banksy between buds?

I'm going around back to see if I can sneak in. Just saw Banksy tagging a wall. Stay tuned...

Also making the rounds is that Jake is talking about doing more than just acting. He's not giving it up but he is prepared to consider going behind the camera, and talking about directing. “That’s probably where the future lies for me – but I’m not going to give up the day job just yet. I’d like to see where it goes.”

“You're always wondering how long this will last. It's a piece of being an actor. There's always someone more talented or younger than you."

Jake has talked before about want to write before as well. He said he also developing a few things at the moment. Jake has had his own production company, Nine Stories, (named after J.D. Salinger's collection of short stories) for years. So will there be future projects under the Nine Stories title soon?

"But I also like to write. In years to come, I think that will expand. I won't just be scrapping for the next job. Maybe I'll create something for myself."

Now who else is an actor, who's talked about writing, and has had his first directing job?

Day 2 of editing. What an incredible process. I have been bitten by the filmmaking bug. I love this!! via Twitter for BlackBerry®

More than a bestie?

Reviews and Reworks

It's all Jake today starting off with an OMG exclusive.

Destiny had the opportunity to attend a special screen of Source Code followed by a Q&A with director Duncan Jones at the Lincoln Film Center last night. Here's her review and highlights of the evening. (Thanks Destiny for sharing it with OMG)

"I really liked Source Code. What really surprised me is how much fun it is, and how funny it was. Duncan Jones said that they deliberately injected humor into the movie, which aside from the ending, is apparently the only things they really changed about the script. However me, my girlfriend, and another friend who went with us were the only ones laughing in the audience. I don't know if that is because people didn't find it laugh out loud funny, or because they thought it wasn't the kind of thing you should laugh at. I laugh at a lot of things people find too dark to laugh at.

I thought Jake was really good, and right for the role. My girlfriend thinks he was not quite right for the role, she thinks he has a goofy quality that makes him not quite credible as a member of the Air Force. I also really liked Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmigna. Jeffrey Wright really didn't have all that much to do.

I feel like it is impossible to talk about the plot without giving things away, so I'm not going to say anything about that, other than to say I didn't find any of the twists and turns surprising.

We all thought the plot was internally incoherent in places, but it was so much fun we didn't mind--not even my girlfriend, who usually hates movies of this sort. Our friend didn't like the last third of the movie because he found it got too bogged down in HW movie conventions. I do think the ending lacked the punch it could have had, so while I think it was a fun movie, I wouldn't say it is a great movie or one that is particularly memorable. It's a good popcorn movie.

Duncan Jones didn't answer questions for that long--maybe 15 or 20 minutes. While it was fun to see him talk about it, I don't think there is anything that probably hasn't been already said in interviews, although again I was struck by how much I think he genuinely liked Jake and liked working with him.

The screening was sold out (theater holds about 300) and when I got there 30 minutes before it started there was already quite a line. Most people stayed for the Q&A. I didn't hear anybody else talking about the movie so I can't gauge how the rest of the audience felt about it, although from the applause for the mention of Jone's last film Moon, I got the sense that a lot of the people were there because of the director."

While Duncan is on the East Coast Jake is doing his part on the West Coast. Jake will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight and for those of you who don't want to wait for the highlights or for it to come on in your area, it will be streaming live starting at 12:35 EST.

Jake should bring an Source Code action figure (every 8 minutes kids will want a new one) with him to go with the Kimmel Lego from his last visit.

Project Update:

No Mooning for Jake

Jake has moved on from Doug Liman's Moon Project which he has been attached to since Oct 2007. THR is reporting that production is back on track and Linman is now looking for two or three leads including a replacement for Jake with a short list that includes Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. (Two of which are also on the shortlist for Akira the movie Austin tweeted about, sorry Austin, too tall again).

With Moon off the table there are only two lingering projects on Jake's plate, Damn Yankees and the Namath biopic.

Where is the Love?

Just when you start to think Austin could fall for Pina Coladas like he did for Puerto Rico,

Ahh. Me Encanta Puerto Rico.

...getting some sun, a little surf and talk about short shorts, Austin took his rum balls and headed home.

Then after a quiet day on twitter, Mr. Nichols came back with a flurry, talking about good causes, movies and getting back in the saddle.

Josh Duhamel is doing a relief run for #japan. RT and follow @reliefrun. www.reliefrun.com. Let's help out!!

in the future, politicians will be riding their bikes around washington, the internal combustion engine will be a relic in the smithsonian.

#twowheeltuesday. Get in the saddle today. That's sounds kinda hot.

And how do we know he was back in NC yesterday? The proof is in the picture. (Need a second source? Check out what Ms. Buffet tweeted)

The good do-bee got a citation for "recycling too much".

I just got a warning for trying to recycle too much. If I do it again, I will get a fine.

The citation was written at 5:00am this morning, and it was for things put out on the wrong day. So it was on the curb last night. It also shows that he has been living in the city of Wilmington.

But what else does it say?

Well it looks like he might be clearing his place out ( See the comment about a special pick up). And it also looks that he is heading back home (LA) sometimes today, if he was putting things out last night because his scheduled pick up day isn't until Thursday.

Now why would he want to be home for Wednesday? Doesn't want to miss Jimmy Kimmel?

Next stop for Jake is tomorrow night on The Jimmy Kimmel show.

Will he show up with free t-shirts like Charlie Sheen last night? Doubtful. Maybe he should go with fresh fruits and veggies to the audience help kick off his campaign for Edible Schoolyards to get more fruits and veggies to schools kids.

There's no new Crazy Tree tonight as they are in their own Source Code for a few more weeks. So instead here's something to fill in the time.

Fresh Never Frozen

Jake spent his weekend doing press for Source Code in sunny LA. Looks like he could have walked back on set just add the tie and the shorts coat and he wouldn't miss a beat. Of course his togs are a little more pricey than what teacher Sean Fentress wore.

Japan was on Jake's mind sitting down with the BBC, when speaking about the movie and talked about the current situation in Japan.

On ET Jake talks about the timeliness of the movie, Michelle talks about working with Jake, and Vera talks about gazing across the table from him in rehearsals.

Extra sat down and got some answers to some current questions.
Asked if he will replace Matt Damon in the next Bourne movie, sadly that a no.

"That's quite a rumor and that would be amazing if that were true, but it's unfortunately not."

When they asked about his recent run with snap happy chappy at SXSW, he would rather focus on more important thing . "There are so many things going on in the world that are of so much more importance at this point that I wish to give my time to. In the wake of so many things going on, it's hard to even talk about things like that."

Asked if he's still "on the market," what did Jake say?

"By 'on the market' or 'off the market', do you mean I am a fresh vegetable or am I canned? Can you pay for me at the checkout? Is that what you mean? You can definitely pay for a little piece of me if you go see 'Source Code.

Now how would you describe Jake in grocery terms? Sure a certain Baker could give an excellent description.

Want more of Jake in Austin. Here's the rest of his interview with Ben Lyons. (3 more parts)

The famous donuts from Gourdough's make their appearance, Jake talks about this year's Oscars and working with another Oscar presenter (Billy Crystal), what he is listening to, and what it's really like riding a bike in NYC.

Out Spotlight

Today's Out Spotlight is the first out lesbian elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. As of 2009, she is one of three openly gay members and is the first openly gay non-incumbent elected to Congress. Today's Out Spotlight is Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin.

Tammy Baldwin was born on February 11, 1962 in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was raised by her mother and maternal grandparents and where she now represents in United States House of Representatives. She graduated top of her class from Madison West High School and went on to attended Smith College, where she received her degree with majors in government and mathematics in 1984.

In 1986, Baldwin was elected to her first public office, the Dane County Board of Supervisors. During her term, she earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. After practicing law from 1989 to 1992, she went on to win a seat as a State Representative for the 78th Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly where she served three terms from 1993 to 1999.

In 1998, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Wisconsin’s Second Congressional District. It made her the first congresswoman from Wisconsin and the first openly gay person non-incumbent to be elected to Congress. While two openly gay men serve in the House of Representatives, she is the only out lesbian.

On July 26, 2004, she spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in prime time on the issue of health care. In 2006, Republicans nominated David Magnum to face Baldwin in her November 2006 bid for reelection. Baldwin retained her seat.

She was elected to her sixth term in 2008. In June of that year she and Congressman Barney Frank with other Members of Congress, who were strongly committed to achieving the full enjoyment of human rights for LGBT people, established The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. The caucus serves as a resource for Members of Congress, their staff, and the public on LGBT issues, works toward the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate-motivated violence, and the improved health and well being for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

As Co-Founder and Co-Chair along with Frank of the Caucus, she is leads efforts to advance the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and other civil rights initiatives. She is the lead author of legislation to extend benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees. She also was outspoken proponent of DOMA legislation.

In the 112th Congress, she serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, its Subcommittee on Health and its Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy. She is a proponent of increasing energy independence, finding more renewable fuels and efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emission.

She drafted legislation to create a National Greenhouse Gas Registry that was largely incorporated into the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454). It called accurate measurements, consistent reporting and a publicly available database of our emission levels is critical to successfully reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and confronting climate change.

Baldwin is also a leading advocate for universal health care and works at "protecting Social Security from risky privatization schemes, protecting Medicare, and increasing support for public education, including financial aid for higher education."

Her legislation to further research into paralysis and rehabilitation, the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act, was incorporated into an omnibus bill and signed into law by President Obama on March 30, 2009. Her legislation reauthorizing a program that provides cancer screening to low-income and uninsured women, and another to increase benefits for service members who lose their vision, were both signed into law in the 110th Session of Congress.

She also helped lead efforts in Congress to repeal federal restrictions on stem cell research and is working to ensure opportunities for state innovation and a public plan option in the health care reform legislation now before her Committee.

Baldwin led successful efforts in the House in 2009 to pass expanded hate crimes legislation.

While making the concerns and needs of her constituents a priority she also helps individuals, groups, and municipalities to secure federal grants and contracts; and ensure that her district receives a fair share of federal financial assistance. Since taking office, Baldwin has secured more than $200 million in federal funds for projects throughout her district.

After almost 15 years together, Baldwin and her partner Lauren Azar separated in 2010.

This past Wednesday, Baldwin took part in a panel on "Opportunities for LGBT Equality in this Congress" hosted by eQualityGiving.org where she said she believes the Republican Party is divided on the issue of gay rights.

She said "the fact that House Speaker John Boehner decided against taking a floor vote on whether to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which bans federal recognition of the marriages of gay and lesbian couples, now that President Barack Obama won't, demonstrates that the GOP is divided on the issue."

“They had two paths they could take: They could bring a resolution to the floor directing the general counsel of the House to defend the constitutionality of DOMA, or they could do what they did do which was convene the five top leaders of the House – the three Republicans and two Democrats – and vote to direct the general counsel to defend the constitutionality of DOMA.”

Get Framed

It's another media day for Jake at the Four Seasons, in LA. More interviews for Source Code, before he heads back on the small screen to promote the movie.

But it's not all about the work for Jake. He's gives back too. The day before Source Code opens, Jake will be on Regis and Kelly and then take some time to give back to the New Eyes for the Needy organization that Jake has been involved with for years.
Jake stopped off to the New Eye headquarters in New Jersey last spring when he took time from from his PoP schedule to meet with the staff and volunteers who's mission is to bring the gift of improved vision those in need so they to pursue a better quality of life for themselves, their families and their communities. Jake now also serves as a member of their board.

New Eyes is having its annual See For Change II event at the La Pomme in NYC on March 31st, from 6:00 - 10:30 pm. Guests are invited to bring any unwanted eyeglasses for donation, and will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, music provided by DJ Louis XIV, as well as happy hour drinks specials throughout the night. At the center of the event will be the See for Change II silent auction. The Dress? As they say "to impress."

And how is the new board member pitching in ? By kicking off the event of the night, and with that brand of enthusiasm he has, no doubt he will have everyone in the room lining up to bid on something.

Some of the items include:

  • 2 tickets to NBC's Saturday Night Live
  • Burberry accessories
  • Gift certificate to Mint Julep boutique
  • Cooking lesson with Touche de Finesse Inc. for 3 people with a professional chef
  • NYC night out on the town package: Two premium seat tickets to Broadway play "Wicked" with a gift certificate for dinner at a restaurant of the winner's choice
  • NBA jersey SIGNED by Pistons player Ben Gordon

  • Stay in an apartment in Paris for a week
  • Art work by Stella Michaels

For more tickets and details of the event check out them out at: New Eyes for the Needy.

Thanks PG for the tweet about New Eyes
