OMG's JFC Discussion

Episode 3: "His Visit: Day 2 Continued"

Shaunie comes back from the dead because Zippy. Dr. Smith is introduced to the cast,. but was his reaction what you expected from a Dr? Enemies made between Dr. Smith and Linc?

Remember its not what you say its what you do. And the beginning of a friendship between traditional enemies - Bill the former copy and Freddy the dealer? What did you think about the scene of them taking Shaun out of the hospital? And what did Kai see in her vision? What did all mean?

Case you didn't know the part about John wanting to bone Kai - don't give that one to Milch. That was all Austin.

Butchie: "Yeah, you would John, I'm beginning to see that about you. You know, you could probably even f***king bone her if you tried hard enough." John: "I'll bone her."

Austin improvised that last line during rehearsal, and Milch liked it so much he told Austin to repeat it for the cameras. At the time no one on the cast and crew how that would factor into the rest of the show.

So what do you think who is Shaunie? Do we know more about John? What's up with Barry and that room? Ramon and Dickstein making food for everyone.

Favorite lines?

Favorite moments?

Dr. Smith's name--is it an every man kind of name? I think so, but I couldn't help think of Lost in Space everytime I heard it.

I don't know if it's just seeing it the second time around, or if the dvd is better than the tv, but the show is better looking than I remembered.

I love that scene when they all escape from the hospital, with the music playing, and (I've gone blank on his name) the one guy in the car watching out for Shaunie and that great music playing. I felt like it was an homage to something, but not sure what.

I really enjoyed the scenery of
Imperial Beach. One of my favorite
scenes was when Butchie had to get
his father off the fence! I also
just enjoyed the miracle of
Shaunie's recovery. I think that
Austin did a wonderful job with
the dialogue.

Wow Destiny, I was going to say the same thing. This was definitely a “stand out” scene for me although I don’t really know what it means. That guy even says the same thing when Bill asks him why he’s there. It’s like he went from being a huge threat to a protector of sorts. That poor guy with the broken hand – I felt so sorry for him. And John making Kia see God was interesting. Was he showing her the present or the future? And why was Butchie affected too?
I loved the scene with Shaunie skating at the end too. He looked so peaceful and happy.

He obviously came to I.B. to go after Butchie, and then he finds himself being a protector for Shaunie. With a lot of the people they've been drawn there for other reasons, and yet there's a sense they were really drawn there for other purposes. I wonder if Milch was trying to get at a general idea that people go about their lives without realizing there is more to it than they see.

And that scene with Kai still puzzles me--is she seeing things happening to other people at the same time? Is seeing God seeing everyone else too?

Kacie, your comment made me think that Butchie getting Mitch off the fence was meant both literally and figuratively. Never thought of it that way before.

All of the those in Kai vision something to do with metal. Vietnam Dan's shrapnel, Butchie's implants, Kai's piercings. Ramon's necklace. When you kashering, which makes a utensil or tool (ie person) fit for use "kosher" in the Judaic tradition by removing material that has been absorbed in it, has its roots in Bemidbar 31:21-24. Elazar, the Kohen Gadol, instructs the people how to treat the utensils that they acquired as booty in the war against Midian. "Anything that was used with fire should be passed through fire to be purified, but [then] needs to be immersed in a mikveh [lit., the waters of the nidda], and anything not used with fire should be passed through water." (Trans. According to the Sifre and the Ramban.)

So to see God they had to be pure and that would be through fire. All four of them are tools that are being used for John's work in the I.B. Water is symbolic of purification and used all through out JFC.

Very interesting, I didn't know that Special about kashering utensils. I think you're right about the purification that is going on. Unfortunately we didn't get to see how this all played out.

Destiny from the past thread, you did not struck a nerve, I just happen to believe your idea of Disney paying Reese to build up PoP interest is ludicrous. If they had to pay someone they would have picked someone way more prestigious, it is Disney we are talking about for G sake. Unless you think Reese is rightly the most powerful and successful actress in HW, but I thought you did not have such high opinion of her, so you are also contradicting yourself. And yes I am new here so, what's the problem?

Interesting info Special. Thanks for posting that. I swear I learn some new here everyday : )
