On the beat

A couple of days ago OMG asked what would America Ferrara's role in EoW, and speculated that she might be a new replacement for Pena's on screen wife, or leaving her good girl ways and playing LaLa a gang banger.

Batting 0-2.

Variety has reported that America has signed on to play a fellow police officer named Orozco, and will be a main supporting role in the cop drama.

Hey cool, so America is going to play a cop, too. I bet she'll be good.

I wish she was going to play Jake's character's wife. Now that I would've paid to go see. I would've loved to see him paired up with America.

Oh wow, you're kidding. Thanks for the news, Special.

Aw man, that's terrible. Doggone it.

You know, she wasn't in the news much anymore and I never realized I wasn't seeing her on JJ hardly anymore.

You know, she quickly lost her media appeal for some reason and Lady Gaga became the popular artist.

That is so sad, another lost person, in more ways than one.

I can't believe she was only 27, too. Wow. She looked older than that.

Special, I saw that in a comment on cnn.com, the Forever 27 Club. I had never heard of that.

And what is so sad is when people are found dead in their home. I think one of the loveliest things to see in an obit is to see when someone passes with family or friends at their side. There is something beautiful to be said for that because the end of a life journey should be peaceful.

But to be found. And how terrible for the finder. Not to be gruesome but this is one of the saddest things you'll ever hear. A friend of mine had a person who lived not too far down the street and he passed away in his home, not found for I think it was 3 months. 3 months. And the house has to be gutted and taken down.

I tell you what. I am about to crawl the walls, though. Others here in the area I've talked to now are too.

But one neat thing. I've found this channel on Music Choice called Stage & Screen and I've heard everything from the theme to Seinfeld to Chim Chim Charee to Feed the Birds. Just great, great stuff.

I'm going to have to get out later today but in the meantime, I feel like I'm in a cave with the blinds closed so that the sun doesn't come in here. Poor doggies. The heat is so hard on them, too.

And Greta wants to lay out in the sun and I just can't let her. She's a Shepherd mix and is as sweet as can be.

Lucky is a lab and only a couple of yrs old - she is bursting at the seams with unspent energy. She keeps trying to hump Puddy today, LOL. Good grief. Lucky's a girl and Puddy's a boy.

Terrible about Amy Winehouse. Despite all of her problems, it was still a shock to hear it.

PG, she hasn't done much lately because of her drug problems. She performed somewhere about a month back and it was a disaster, forgetting words and slurring. So sad because she was so talented. And I feel so bad for her family that tried so hard to get her to take care of herself.

It is strange about the age of 27, but you know there is a theory that people shift physically about every 7 years in terms of their overall physical condition. So for example people freak out over turning 30, but really you start noticing differences when you're around 28 in terms of aging. Maybe when people get near that age their body changes in a way that can't handle drugs as well.

Amy was really really talent. I now I had all her stuff.

When you look at all the others who died at 27 they were extraordinarily talented too.

Such a waste to lose ones talent to drugs. I am guessing Amy's death was drug related but it could have weakened her heart too. A lot of people expected such an ending for her.

I don't buy Jake anywhere untill photos appear. Seems like an effort is being made to place him somewhere in advance.

Interesting, Destiny. I didn't know that. I sure know about physical condition shifting. LOLLL. Yeah, I can remember not wanting to turn 30. I can remember not wanting to turn 25. But you know what? I know I've said this before, but your 30's are your best. The best as far as your maturity, your physical being, overall view of things. You're still young enough that you feel like you can do anything and the bones haven't started to hurt yet. And you're still very sharp and young minded.

30's are incredible.

don ho said...

I don't recall any FB sightings of Jake flying out of LAX.

I guess maggie was in L.A. too since they were both spotted on the same plane.

Any chatter from MA about Hawaii must have been from people there talking about Stephen getting married in Hawaii, and the chatter had to have included Maggie and Jake going.

People that live in and around MV must have heard.

don ho said...

EV "hinted" yesterday that Jake was flying out of LAX to Hawaii, he mentioned Waikki.

The hater from MV/MA must have been about the wedding and he heard about whilst hanging out at a private beach where other "elites" hang.

If Maggie was in L.A. along with Jake then they flew to Hawaii together and met their Dad in Hawaii except that the FB sighting posted says Jake not Maggie at LAX. Was there a lay over in MA?

EV hintsounds like he over heard some coversation about Stephen and since his parents hung around the same circles it would make sense that he would have heard.

I just hope that he wasn't dumb enough to gleam that infor via his job.

Meeting in MV doesn't make sense. Stephen doesn't own the place in MV Naomi got it. Maggie's working in Pittsburgh. Jake's filming in LA.

He is beautiful, m. While I don't think anything happened there, I don't disagree that if Austin were not the man for Jake, then wow, Henry Cavill more than fills the bill.

But Austin was the guy for Jake it sounds like from the minute Jake saw him. And when you study their personalities, you see how Austin has anchored Jake in a way that Jake appears to need and thank goodness he had and has Austin in his life. They're opposites and yet they appear to fit perfectly like two puzzle pieces.

From 2002 and surviving that tumultuous world that is HW with a bonding and a brood of their own offspring to show for it, their story is amazing.

Henry is beautiful to look at and I admit I don't know anything about him personally, but I have read plenty about and from Austin to see that the guy is extraordinary. I don't know but the image of him & Jake together now as grown men is the picture I wait for.

prairiegirl said...

Been watching this movie called Charlie St Cloud (or something like that) on HBO. I think Zac Efron is so good looking - sometimes just beautiful. And his voice and gentle, sensitive manner of speaking just so attractive. Think that's what I loved about him in High School Musical (I know, I know, lol). Hey - he's every teenaged girl's head image of the perfect dream guy. And wow, he laid a hook into this guy in this movie that was pow.

But the message in this movie is a good one in that we grieve for our loved ones and sometimes want to stay in that mode. There comes a time when you have to let go.

I wish in this one scene of the movie though that Tess would have explained better that while you let go of your grieving process, you don't actually let go of the memories and good feelings about that person. I kind of wished that they had put it that way instead of making it look like she wanted him to say goodbye forever to his little brother.

I like Zac as an actor though. I think he has good potential.
And he is just beautiful, lol. Or did I say that already? I think I may have to buy this movie. I'm telling you guys, in another 2-3 years, he's going to be peaking in his looks. Mark my words!!

And wow oh wow, he looks incredible in a race driver suit. His body is just.....amazing.

prairiegirl said...

Let me wipe the slobber off my screen for a moment....

LOL.

Okay, so the movie kind of went all over the place at the end and I got lost. What in the heck happened, anyway? Oh well, boy got girl, that's all that matters.

He is beautiful, though.

Special K said...

PG you have really captured Austin and Jake in your comment. ITA.

Special K said...

But Charlie St. Cloud I can not agree. Why? Art Direction.

Sometimes you can not shoot where the story is set, but at least try to get it close. It takes place in New England, not British Columbia. There are no mountains that rise out of the bays here. sure you can film it there but at least block the scene so there is no friggin' mountain in the background. Lazy! Lazy! Lazy!

Nordeste said...

Don't you just hate that? :\

prairiegirl said...

Oh. LOLLLL! Well, I didn't notice that, see. I wouldn't know any better, I don't always think about those things. See? I'm the unobservant movie watcher that they count on sometimes, lol.

Awww, but Zac is gorgeous in this thing. And while he was good in it and his tear welling so very believable and his angry scenes so believable, the girl wasn't too good and they didn't really have any chemistry.

And Ray Liotta? Wow - when did he age? I missed that. I always remember Ray Liotta from Field of Dreams and Corrina, Corrina. He was very attractive in those movies, I always thought.

Wasn't Margaret O'Brien just the cutest little girl actress ever? I don't think there was any cuter. Those eyes of hers, the way they crinkled up when she talked and her little teeth. Just cracked me up. She's in The Canterville Ghost with Robert Young, I think that is. But Margaret could cry a river. She was a little spitfire.

Special K said...

When I think of Ray Liotta I think of one thing... Goodfellas.

Bow to Scorsese who is a master at pairing music to movie.

...cue Layla

prairiegirl said...

LOL, look at the difference, Special, this is what I always think is so funny. Me? Field of Dreams & Corrina, Corrina. You? Good Fellas.

LOLLLL! How different can you get. I think that is so funny.

Ray Liotta is a good actor. He can be so passionate.

NY marriage equality is good for business By Bob Witeck, Special to CNN, July 23, 2011 9:19 a.m. EDT

Editor's note: Bob Witeck advises companies on business trends, demographics and issues of significance to LGBT stakeholders. He is co-founder and CEO of Witeck-Combs Communications, as well as author of "Business Inside Out: Capturing Millions of Brand Loyal Gay Consumers."

(CNN) -- Many New Yorkers and thousands of visitors this weekend may make last month's Gay Pride celebrations seem tepid. Beginning Sunday, New York's same-sex couples will become eligible for marriage licenses. Tens of thousands of those couples are expected to marry over the next few years, and their vows will resonate across America.

New York is the sixth state (plus Washington) to offer marriage equality for same-sex couples. To me, after two decades of consulting with business leaders, this moment truly feels personal. It not only arrives packed with emotion, it is a real game-changer for the American work force.

New York's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, and city leaders must be cheering the economic shot in the arm as hotels, restaurants, caterers, florists and legions of vendors welcome the wedding and honeymoon brigades. Some estimate nearly $400 million in revenues for the state over the next three years.

These rewards are also the result of changing tides among American corporations and employers over recent decades. Gov. Andrew Cuomo's same-sex marriage legislation was endorsed not only by major corporations like Xerox and Google but by scores of smaller business owners across the state.

TBC

Isn't it Wonderful said...

Why should business leaders care? What's in it for them?

First, many employers already "get it." Beginning in 1982 with New York's Village Voice, thousands of employers have added spousal-equivalent work benefits including health coverage for their workers with same-sex partners. Today, nearly 60% of Fortune 500 companies do so.

Treating same-sex partners and their families equally with other married couples is today as natural for corporate leaders as ending discrimination on race or ethnicity.

If employers give equal benefits to same-sex couples, why worry about marital status? Ask employers in New Jersey, where same-sex civil unions are the law instead. Civil unions, domestic partnerships and other makeshift legal arrangements offer some measure of legal protection. But real-world experience shows that they do not measure up in crucial ways.

"Marriage lite" not only creates a social apartheid among families, it opens significant gaps, confusion and conflicts that businesses confront in areas such as survivor benefits, pensions and bankruptcies, along with disparate tax treatment at the state and federal level.

Keeping it simple and consistent are important to businesses. The power of New York's business allies suggests that states with civil unions, such as New Jersey, Illinois and Rhode Island, will find the marriage-equality trend appealing and inevitable.

Furthermore, administering payrolls and maintaining accurate, timely benefits and tax withholding procedures can strain any employer. When you add the complexity that accompanies different marital and tax status for many couples, from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and workplace to workplace, it is another unacceptable and costly burden on business.

Sooner rather than later, chambers of commerce will recognize that their best interests are served by the simplicity, uniformity and cost savings that come with marriage equality across the nation.

As more states follow New York, and as independent federal litigation progresses, the likelihood will grow that either federal courts or Congress ultimately will dismantle the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. That law prevents federal recognition of states' same-sex marriage laws and codifies the right of other states to not recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. Simply put, a Kansas employer need not recognize a couple's New York marriage license.

Even in a sluggish economy like ours, successful business performance has an unquenchable appetite for strong human performance and top talent. It is not surprising that some of America's leading companies are actively recruiting and rewarding their openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workers and assigning them to more leading and executive roles.

The competition for superior talent goes hand in hand with appealing communities and welcoming cultures. Very few LGBT executives and managers will eagerly await employment transfer, with spouses and children too, to states and cities that insist on denying equal legal protections and stability.

Increasingly, same-sex couples will align their ambitions with their best interests in choosing to live and work in states that offer them the full respect and equal treatment under the law they need and wish for their families.

In fact, in a Harris Poll released this week, 78% of all LGBT adults said that, other factors being equal, they would prefer jobs in states that recognize marriage equality. Nearly half went farther by saying they would even consider declining job promotions if it required a transfer for themselves or their family to a hostile state or jurisdiction.

It's clear that New York and its 19 million residents is the pivot now. With marriage equality ingrained in America's capital of commerce, the trend toward business engagement will also accelerate -- and give us the best example yet of the economic benefits and progress awaiting us.

prairiegirl said...

That editorial/article is very, very exciting, I think. Kinda makes you want to see some people pumping fists into the air or something, lol.

I just think New York passing their same-sex law was really, really big. I mean, New York. New York is the cream of the crop, it's where it's at, it's the trendsetter. What do they say, if you can make it in NY, you can make it anywhere. And after having visited there, I can believe it. LOLLL!!

And for some states that are hedging, hemming & hawing? Those $$$ numbers will speak very loudly to them.

I came away from NYC just blown away. Seeing NYC had been a dream of mine since I can remember. And I will never, ever forget that sight as I landed. The vision of the lit up Statue of Liberty amidst the hugest, and I do mean the hugest and longest string of city lights that I have ever seen in my life, that vision is forever engrained in my memory.

That is a city's city. I've been to Chicago several times now. Haven't been to L.A. But I think NYC is by far in a class by itself. It makes Chicago look a little small. But I love Chicago, too. There isn't anything like Chicago pizza.

Don't know how I got off on this subject of cities but oh well.

prairiegirl said...

Anyway, I just wanted to say, Destiny, that it must be very, very exciting today in your state. I'm so happy for everyone there, there must be a lot of joy on the sidewalks.
