Jake might not be Sy Sperling, but he does belong to a Hair Club for Men of sorts.
Like all things celebrity related there are stylists who are dedicated to such things. April Barton is considered, within beautiful-people circles, to be a diva of men's grooming. And why yes, Jake is a client, joining the ranks with Elvis Costello, Bono, Adrien Brody, Matthew Modine, and Jerry Seinfeld.
You think Jake's beard plan is just done without consulting with the experts? Who are you kidding? But I have think last year's Sad Wolfie look was of his own doing.
Now if the slight scruff was her suggestion. Kudos April Kudos. Taking the tweezers and getting him away from the overly groomed brows of the Kiki era. Good job. Keeping that punim in great shape. Excellent. But if he goes for the Mennonite/Amish look after Brothers, I am sending The Anti-Beardy Brigade to come and have a chat with you.

haha... i am not sure i like Jerry Seinfeld's haircut! but Jake is rocking his beard big time... and kept stroking it during the interview last night.
I don't really miss his clean-shaven look, but i hope the beard doesn't get any thicker! lol
Now if *I* were April Barton, I would persuade my client to cover up (i.e., color/dye) those little bits of gray sneaking into that beard.
Now Liz that is just little light blonde sneaking in there, it can't be grey. : )
Liz, I noticed that grey in the beard too. I thought it was just me!
I'm always pro-beard with Jake (except for the Sad Wolfie, of course), but my only request for the Work Beard would be to keep it a little more tightly trimmed. True, he really will look Amish then, but it's better than scraggle, lol.
I was a bit taken back by his latest haircut looking a little like a high-and-tight; it's so short on the sides you can almost see his scalp ghosting through. All his hair is beautiful, though. Weeks after seeing him at TIFF, it's the texture of his hair (on his head, haha) I remember as much as anything. And I think it was an excellent decision to let his eyebrows go largely natural, too, they're a big part of his looks.
I also noticed what looked like a few grey hairs in his beard - eep - but what caught my attention much more was the red. How Scandanavian!
The reds have company. Austin tends to get little auburn in his beard and when he has his hair longer. I think the sun and the water pulls some of the auburn out his hair.
I have on occasion thought it looks like Jake has little help with color. Little lightening around the front a top for a little more depth to his color.
It is quiet difficult to color beards and make them look natural. The shorter the beard the less you see the gray.
I haven't heard "Shaving Cream" since I was a kid, very funny. Is that the team song for the anti-bearding brigade Wicked?
I finally watched the interview and I think Jake seemed pretty uncomfortable the whole time. I know I wasn't very comfortable watching it. I was really suprised at how much time got spent on BBM. Either Jake didn't have any control over what got asked, or, unlike on American shows, he had no idea what was coming. I felt like there was an undercurrent to the whole thing that bothered me, not sure what, maybe hostility or that he was trying to goad him somehow.
I finally watched the interview and I think Jake seemed pretty uncomfortable the whole time.
I think it was the sofa. No, really. It has a history of being uncomfortable.
When watching Jake sitting sort of right on the edge of the sofa last night I was reminded of another guest(s) on that sofa last year.

actually many american actors have uncomfortable experience being interviewed by Jonathan Ross, unless you're Tarantino, who's even crazier than Ross. in fact, the best way to deal with Ross is to be even cheekier and not take any of his questions seriously - which I think Jake handled that quite well with the carbon-footprint quesiton!
you should see Jonathan Ross interviewed John Barrowman, they were practically talking about John's past sexual experience and laughing hysterically the whole time. It's a blast when you get the rapport.
Totally OT: Just had to tell that I am soon heading in to Fenway for ALCS Game #2. Hey no monster seat, like Jake, but any seat during the playoffs is awesome!

Hmmm, looks like we're gonna get a re-run of the Zodiac interviews. Lots of jokes and Jake being his charming self but not much info on the movie, the shooting, interactions with fellow actors, etc. Too bad.
bltb, I also noticed the very close-cut sides on Jake's most recent haircut. It reminded me of Austin's recent cuts. I'm not crazy about it on either of them, but when you're as gorgeous as they are I guess it really doesn't matter.
I do like both Jake and Austin with a nicely trimmed beards, with stubble or clean-cut. It's only the overgrown beard look that bothers me, though it looks better on Austin than on Jake because he doesn't have as heavy a beard.
ITA, Frenchy about the interviews. Jake is a joy to watch since he's so quick and charming, but I am disappointed by the lack of focused serious questions about the film. I suppose that's typical because most of these shows are hosted by comedians who are known for their repartee. We'll probably only find serious discussions in print interviews.
Frenchy I understand your frustation but the late night chat shows won't ask the serious questions. He did do some great serious interviews.

Plus, he was interviewed when he was in London (yesterday/today) by BBC Security Correspondent, Frank Gardner, who reports on Al-Qaeda terrorism that will air on The Culture Show (a BBC program) on Sat. Oct. 27th. That should be a very interesting interview.

The close-cut side thing must be a new fad. Jordan and Peter Andre followed Jake on the Jonathan Ross show and Peter Andre also had close-cut sides!
Thank you special (and tbs!) for the direct link to the new photos. He's got that slightly weary, travelling face; the odd blemish. I know that face from travelling myself, looking in the odd mirror in some hotel or on the airplane and thinking, "oh dear". lol. It's nice to know he - hopefully - has a day to rest tomorrow before his busy week ahead.

Normally I don't comment on Jake's attire - what ever he wears or doesn't is just fine be me. There's one thing, though I'm compelled to mention...his jacket. Is it just me, or does that thing look, well, too small for him, the way the button pulls when it's closed? Not in the arms per se, but around the chest. And the length, too short for finger cupping.

The jacket actually looks like a suit jacket. And if he's wearing two shirts underneath, which he is wont to do, then I can see it pulling a bit across his manly and well-defined pecs. :)
Yes, Liz, it is a suit jacket, looks to be the same one he was wearing to his dinner with Peter last week or so. And it appeared too small for him there also, even when he wasn't wearing two shirts underneath.
Funny that he would be wearing two shirts, a jacket and scarf seeing as how the weather in London was rather balmy today.
Just kinda' OOC for Jake, seeing as how he is always so particular about his appearance even when traveling.
Hmm. I've never really noticed that he's "particular" about his appearance while traveling. Seems I've seen loads of pics of him going into or emerging from airports looking like a rumpled mess. ;-)
Perhaps the layering has more to do with where he was landing than where he was taking off from?
Not only where he landed but the temperature on the plane as well. Most planes are cool with ac, the layers would let him add or substract as needed.
OT: Just got home from the Sox/Indian game (ALCS Game #2). Unfortunately they loss in the 11th 13-6 around 1:30 AM. But what was interesting sitting with these guys from LA, and I had to grin when the LAPD officer inadvertently flashed his turquoise ring.
