A Moveable Feast

Jake might have started his holidays in New York talking but he's wrapping up Hanukkah in LA.

Jake flew out back to LA as he gets ready to visit Ellen on Thursday to tape his first interview with her since 2007.

What can be expected?  Well with Jake and Ellen anything:

Maybe some cooking?

or dancing ?

a little tease?

 or a lot of wine?

or maybe a shower of flowers

But Jake no doubt will talk about Prisoners, which is coming out on DVD December 17th,  and maybe his other projects.  It will be Day 3 of Ellen's 12 Days of Giveaways so the audience is getting presents, but maybe Ellen will give Jake his own gift for his upcoming birthday.   A HanukkahBirthmas gift!  Or just call it a Festivus gift and be done with it.  Jake - a donation to the Human Fund might be in your future.

Jake will be on Ellen on Monday, Dec 9th.  Check your local listings.

and one more menorah for the close of Hanukkah.

Recipe Relief

With Jake's hand on the mend everyone should be relieved that Thursday cooking isn't left up to just one man:

Although deep fried turkey might be a new tradition, but not so sure about a turkey burrito.

Speaking of traditions.  OMG is bring one back after a suggestion from a longtime OMG'er.

The OMG Cooking Klatch is back !!

Now with the start of the holiday season you probably have your favorite recipes out so why not share them with your friends here at OMG.  For the next three Fridays we will have Fav Food Fridays and a chance to share you favorite recipes.

This coming Friday (Dec 2) - Appetizers and snacks.   Dec  9 - Main and Side dishes  and  Dec 16 - Sweets and treats.

And hey any of you have any recipes for Thanksgivukkah or Hanukkah start to share those today and tomorrow.

Thanks ROMA!

Who's in the kitchen?

Someone's in the kitchen and it's not Dinah.

Jake working at the Beach Plum in MV with his buds and throwing some love to the camera.

Some actors want to be rock stars, others prep chefs.

You never know who might be making your amuse bouche.

But bet Austin knows who makes his. ; )

Island Kitchen Brigade

The old adage is "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

But in Jake's  case, it drove him to a kitchen.

Looks like Jake has left one island for another.

Several tweets have place Jake in Martha's Vineyard and jumping on the line of the cooking crew at Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha.

And how does Jake just grab a chef coat and jump in?  Well when the executive chef is your best friend, it helps.

While most of us would daydream about being famous and not working, Jake seems to be the opposite. And we know from past interviews this isn't the first time Jake has found his way to the back of the house and on the line.  And for Jake cooking is relaxing.  It sounds like this is his idea of vacation.

Although a week of high temps and high humidity and spending in a hot busy kitchen would not be a vacation for most.

It is nice to see him heading back to MV to share the holiday with friends (and family).  The island has special memories and it is a homecoming in a way.  It's been a while since it's been public about him being back on the Vineyard. Sure that this visit will no doubt be just as special of a memory.  Wonder if Jake will go catch the 4th of July parade in Edgartown?

Keep your eyes and ears open to see if Jake shows up to help out with the Farmer's Market this weekend or if he pops up at the Chilmark Flea Market.  Or maybe on a snack run at the Chilmark Store.

Dishy dishing

Jake was on The Chew today with old friend Mario Batali

and cooking up the Daily Dish or more precisely a three-for Daily Dish.

Jake and Mario cooked up a triple threat of pasta and it let Jake use some of his chopping and  cooking skills but not as much as he would liked it looked like.

You can check the whole thing here.

While Jake appreciated the opportunity to talk about the play and his two charities, Edible Schoolyards and New Eyes, not sure he appreciated all the comments about his beard.  One Lincoln too many from Michael Simon.   (And besides - Austin is Lincoln - Lincoln Booth that is -- hey whatever happened to Pedestrian the movie, big guy?)

And Jake the pumpkin head?  Too easy.

Julia, Julian and Jake

Everyone imitates Julia Child as some point when you're cooking, just saying Bon Appetite, or having another bottle of wine.

And as much as Jake as penchant for doing voice of slight sloshed ladies, almost as tall as dear Julia,  you know he's got his own imitation of her when he's whipping something up.

And he could even pull off the outfit.

He has the shirt,

shown he can rock the fakeout skirt.

And can handle a turkey

The accessories he's own his own.  ; )

Jake doing Julia

Jake doing Julian - something totally different
