On Watch

We know that Austin has the hots for Brazilians

but he showed that he has lots of love for Team USA too, tweeting during the US - Germany game this week.

USA USA USA USA USA USA !!!!!! - AUS10

Four years ago we found out how much of a World Cup watcher Austin  is, and this year is no exception.

No doubt his eyes will be peeled to the TV on Tuesday when the US meets Belgium.

While he saw more bite on the pitch than on the water, Austin was diligent in his watch  for a big set of teeth, proving  a watcher on his shark tracking expedition.  Nautica put up several photos on their Facebook page of Austin from their sponsored partnership  with Oceana.

Stick it to Stop it

Austin  is the definitition of a water baby, on the water before he could walk,  an Aqua Man indeed.

Just like the biggest swimmer on the Justice League Austin's doing what he can for a good cause.

Austin continues sharing Oceana's mission and message:

Bruce, Alrighty*

WhoSay  picked up on a post about Austin's recent shark experience that Oceana had officially blogged about on their page.  And both came on an memorable date:

The 39th Anniversary of  the movie Jaws.

What the two sites did was  highlighted some of the pictures Austy had shared on  twitter and what he was doing on this adventure.

A little recap :  It was a two day trip with the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at the University of Miami off the coast of Florida to tag and study sharks.

Austin told Oceana:

“I tell people all the time how I like to dive, and a lot of people are scared of the ocean. I want everyone to know that you don’t need to be, I see sharks all the time and swim with them. They’re really smart and really intelligent fish, and I feel like we could all open our hearts to them a little bit more. We’ve been inundated by the movies to think they’re these bloodthirsty human eaters, but they’re not.”

Austin and the crew got to tag 7 sharks, a feisty nurse shark and blacktip shark, which is rare in recent years, four black nose sharks and a nearly seven-foot-long lemon shark.

Austin talked about what happened when they caught the nurse shark:

“The nurse shark is supposed to be the calmest shark in the water, but when you catch one and try to pull it on the boat, it’s the most rambunctious shark out there. The scientists had to jump on it and hold it still, and it was a fascinating thing to watch this calm shark be really strong.”

Austy is continuing to support Oceana. He's helping Nautica design and produce a t-shirt that will be sold later this summer and will benefit Oceana.

A little wet tshirt redux let's say.

*Jaws Movie Trivia :  Steven Spielberg named the shark "Bruce" after his lawyer.

Trials of Tallness

It's tough being tall

You can never be in the front row

Tall guys in back.

 Unless you do it yourself
The one time Austin gets the front row.

Remembering 70 years ago today the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation that changed the course of mankind.

Wave back

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

Or maybe just a smaller shark.

The Wave Wave Back

 Back to the Ocean(a)

As if we needed to be reminded how much Austin loves the Ocean.

“Ever since I can remember I’ve always wanted to be in the water,” Austin shared during the event. “I grew up waterskiing all over the country, and then I moved to California and started surfing. Now my obsession is free diving and that’s brought me face to face with all the beautiful things the ocean has to offer.”

Austin and Miranda Cosgrove hosted the Oceana party last week at the The Marion Davies Guest House, a white 1920s Georgian formerly built for William Randolph Hearst’s mistress/silent film star Marion Davies.

Joining supporters of Oceana includedTed Danson, Drake Bell (of Nickelodeon's Drake and Josh, who performed), Jenna Ushkowitz, Angela Kinsey, Sam Trammell , and the FauxChlo. Connor Cruise (yup you know that last name) dj'd a set.

And what's a host without fun facts.

And he was on a roll

"You’re more likely to get struck by lightning than be attacked by a shark,”

“You’re more likely to be killed by a jellyfish. My favorite is, you’re more likely to be killed by a vending machine than killed by a shark!”

Once everyone got a chance to mingle, give, and filled up on finger foods and fun facts they  got  beach totes and towels and were asked not to crash the neighboring wedding.

But before they left The Bumbys, masked performance artists who tap out fashion-centric notes on typewriters, offered guests “A Fair and Honest Appraisal of Your Appearance.”

An example of their work

What would they say about the big Tall Texan

A true Southern gentleman with an infectious smileand a funky style.  A consummate host, who wants to make every comfortable yet but has moments of total geekitude.

A waterbaby who's one with the water, the wave and the board

Tender  for sharks
yet tougher with "dates"

Common Threads

Austin and Despicable Me star Miranda Cosgrove are teaming up with Oceana to celebrate the group's mission and successes in protecting the oceans and restoring marine life at the Marion Davies Guest House located next to Santa Monica Beach next Friday, May 16th.

Austin and Miranda will be serving as host and will be sharing their experience working with Oceana and encouraging others to become involved in joining the group in protecting and restoring the oceans and water ways.

Nautica, a corporate sponsor of Oceana, is teaming up with LA Confidential Magazine for the 2nd Annual Nautica Oceana Beach House party.

This is not the first time Austin has teamed up with Oceana, just this past November Austin was out to show his support for the environmental group.

Back then OMG pointed out that it seemed like a family connection with Oceana.

The environmental group merged with Jake's longtime family friend Ted Danson's water conservation and protection cause, America's Ocean Campaign back in 2002. Jake had supported America's Ocean Campaign and continued his support with Oceana. And years of supporting Oceana, Austin is now lending his name to the cause.

Just like Global Green, it is another cause that guys become involved in supporting.

Maybe Jake will get back to his Cali roots and show off his surfing skills for Surfrider in the future.

Do you think he can do the advanced handstand though?

But it's not all good causes that link these two.

In the past Austin traveled to Israel and many wonder what was his interest in the country, people and culture. Could it be that he wanted to understand more about Jake's heritage?

And then Austin's tweet today is another example thread to Jake

Novice Buddist Monks in Thailand - AUS10

No doubt he has more pictures to share with Jake who majored in Buddhist studies at Columbia.
