Yesterday Austin tweeted from near a spot at the top in Utah.

Today there's a tweet with Jake at the hottest spot in Utah.

Call it a case of the We-tahs.


Or a bit of Berlinale.

Jake's past Sundance moment, could be described as a future Enemy promotion.

Jake and Denis are the cover boys for Filmmaker magazine.

Something about Jake in this picture rings a bell.

Is the bearded face?  The white tee?

Or is it that big ring on that chain?

The one that is front and center

That looks a little too big for Jake's slender fingers.

Now .....who has bigger rugged hands?

Where (or is that What) in the World

So where is in the world is Jake? Or What in the world is going on.  Because in the last week every day there has been a new story or a new place for Jake.

The end of last week it looked like Jake and Maggie were LA.

But no sight of either at the Golden Globes or any parties.

Then Monday there were reports that Jake and Josh were in Nepal and started filming.

Then Tuesday were was a mention in Haute Living that Jake and Maggie were at Stella McCartney's party at an Upper East Side townhouse on Monday night.

Then more mentions of Nepal popped up again.

But wait don't Nepal it all yet.  While papers from the region say the stars are in Nepal, Entertainment Weekly came out today with a story that mentioned Everest started filming on  Monday in Italy.

When it comes to ascending a summit, first to the top usually wins. News this week confirmed that Working Title’s Everest, to be released by Universal, is a go. The film, from director Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns) began production Monday in Italy, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes playing four of the climbers who attempted the disastrous 1996 ascent of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, only to be thwarted with terrible conditions that led to the loss of many lives.

But no pictures from LA, Nepal, Italy or that party.

Until today that is.  Where Jake (or pictures of Jake) popped up  of him trying to do what a lot of people do in NYC - catch a cab.

Didn't look like he had much luck.

 Cabs... how do you look up cabs up?  Is under cabs or taxis or taxi cabs?

 Great now I have to call Mom and tell her I'm going to be late. And then there will be the this whole thing about being late and me going "But you don't understand they wouldn't stop for me.  I tried I really did. I ran and everything"

Ode to an Overcoat

While Prisoners didn't get the nominations that Jake and the rest of the cast and crew were hoping for, his second film with Denis is getting accolades from the Great White North.

Enemy leads the film nominations of Canadian Screen Awards dominating them with 10 nominations.

Enemy's nominated for the following:

Achievement in Direction,
Achievement in Art Direction/Production Design,

Achievement in Cinematography,
Achievement in Editing, Achievement in Music -Original Score,
Adapted Screenplay,

Achievement in Visual Effects,

 and of course
Performance by an Actor in A Leading Role.

The Canadian Screen Awards will be March 8th with Canadian comedic legend (and Jake's old neighbor from Hancock Park, LA) Martin Short doing the hosting duties.

Out Spotlight

Today's Out Spotlight was a filmmaker, educator, poet and gay rights activist. He examined race and sexuality in his documentaries for which he received an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award.  Today's Out Spotlight is Marlon Riggs.

Marlon Riggs was born on February 3, 1957, to a military family, and spent most of his childhood living on different bases. At 11, his family moved to West Germany. He remained there until graduating from high school where he was student-body president.

Riggs attended Harvard, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history. He earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, he joined the faculty.

In 1987, he released his first television film, “Ethnic Notions,” for which he received an Emmy Award. He followed this with “Tongues Tied,” the first televised documentary focusing on the black gay experience. During production, Riggs was diagnosed with HIV. Many of his poems about HIV were included in the documentary.

The critically acclaimed film sparked controversy. The religious right objected to the content of the movie and used it to protest public funding of sexually explicit art. Riggs became a leading advocate for independent television that would support controversial topics.

Riggs’s next project, “Color Adjustment,” focused on 40 years of prime-time representations of African-Americans. In 1991, the film received television’s highest honor, the Peabody Award. That same year, Riggs was recognized with the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1994, Riggs began working on his last film, “Black Is…Black Ain’t.” During production, his health deteriorated. In the documentary, Riggs appears on screen from his hospital bed saying, “As long as I have work then I’m not going to die, ’cause work is a living spirit in me.”

Riggs died from AIDS-related complications on April 5, 1994. He is survived by his life partner, Jack Vincent. “Black Is…Black Ain’t” was completed posthumously by the co-producer and released in 1995.
