Missed Independence

 Nightcrawler is the type of film that the Independent Spirit is about: small and smartly made, not originally funded by a studio, edgy, taking risks in storytelling that the studio system wouldn't risk.

The success of  Nightcrawler has carried past the critic's reviews and on to acclaim at the Independent Spirit awards.

Attending the awards director Dan Gilroy and his wife (and Jake's co-star) Rene Russo were the biggest representative of Nightcrawler.

At the awards Nightcrawler won two:

BEST SCREENPLAY - Dan Gilroy Nightcrawler

BEST FIRST FEATURE (Award given to the director and producer)

Sadly Jake was not there but back in NYC with Constellations which ends its run in mid March.

While Jake was able to attend the Golden Globe in January,  it is interesting that he was unable to attended the biggest weekend in Hollywood.  For all the talk about him making film choices to position himself back into the award race, his absence is notable.

If he was really campaigning wouldn't he be in LA? ( Check this out about Oscar campaigning)  Maybe not presenting an award since his movie wasn't nominated, at it would be a bit awkward, but at least a part of the Academy scene.

Even more so the Independent Spirit award.  They are Jake's sweet spot, he came up an indie darling, and it is those films and that indie spirit where he really shines.  Jake's success is wrapped in independent films, and it is there where he could have the freedom both on and off screen that could bring him work-life balance.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that there is a reason for OMG a bit bigger than just a little blog that friends stop by to talk about Jake and Austin.

OMG wants to keep the reminder of their story from past to present.  So to that point OMG's going revisit and keep posting all those pictures, that seem to be getting "lost" out there in the big gossip round up.

Looks like someone might have missed me.  ; )

No worries for any other OMG'ers   I'm here,  not abducted by aliens, or a writer taken ala Misery.  It's a more than snowy here but I'm not going anywhere.  So look for a little forward and backward in posts for the next bit.  One step forward (new post) two steps back (catch up posts) - sometimes just like it seems with Jake and Austin.

Rum Runners

 Jake joined the cast/crew and some famous news readers/reporters (even Jake's Constellation co-star) at The Rum House at The Hotel Edison celebrating Nightcrawer and the holidays.

While Austin was either quizzing state capitals or is  still trying to equate the name  Austin with boobs while playing catch me if you can but actually in LA.

Now was there a reason that Austin needed to tweet about ice coffee at the CVT truck on Tuesday?

What ever happened to Nailed?

It looks like the movie went into witness protection.   It got a new name and new location and all connection to David O. Russell is wiped away or is that Russell wiped away any relation to it.

"Screen Daily reports that Arrow Films has snapped up the UK rights to the film that’s now called “Politics Of Love” with plans for a 2015 release."

No word if or when it can return to the US.

From Austin's carving skills it looks like he capture his self professed "five-head" and a giant grin.

It's likely Austin is smiling that his recent project, Nostradamus, met its Kickstarter goal and now has the funds needed to do their post-production.  Wonder who's getting to have dinner with the big guy?

And it looks like if he's carving pumpkins that he's slipped back home. Funny how that happens.

The somewhere -  Cal Lutheran is in Thousand Oaks, CA - an outlying  suburb of LA.   - So where was Austin if he had to board a flight to there, obviously not LA?

The pretend to be someone else - He was there to talk about acting. So what would he have pretend and make believe?

It was a poignant tweet on a poignant day, but what does it all mean?

Who is he saying good bye to? 


And why did he choose to share it?

And why today?


We remember those who lost their lives this day, thirteen days ago, those innocent victims, those first responders who gave their lives to help other, and all the heroes who emerged out of tragedy.  And we honor those survivors, responders, and citizens who are forever are changed from this day.  We will never forget what happened while we look ahead into the future.
