nly to his family, Michelle, and Matilda but for many here, to Jake as well.

Jake Gyllenhaal has yet to be seen or heard from since the death of his close friend, Heath Ledger -- and people on the set of his new film are working hard to keep it that way.Knowing how Brokeback brought so many fans together, for those who made it, it must have created an even more special bond. Jake's thoughts must be filled with sorrow over the loss of Heath, and concern for both Michelle and his goddaughter Matilda.
Gyllenhaal is in New Mexico, currently filming his new movie, "Brothers." We're told there are no plans to shut down production, but Jake is very upset and doesn't want to talk to the media -- so the set has been closed to non-crew members and extra security has been hired.
It's good that the cast and crew of Brothers have rallied around Jake, protecting him from the onslaught of the media so that he can have time to reflect, renew, and find strength to give. Sure that he is also turning to his own family and Austin for support. It is times like these that people draw close to those they love.

Don't know what to say this morning either, still feeling so bad about the tragic loss of someone so young and talented. I guess this song makes me feel better. AG, thanks for the information about the funeral, it sounds beautiful. I have always found that when you lose someone close to you, it's so comforting to know just how many people loved them. :'(
This is not to take away from the tragic loss of a young life, but there seem to be a lot of fans sticking their heads in the sand at the mention of Heath's drug habit. We don't know yet the specific reason for his death, but I think it's been said for a long time that Heath had a substance abuse problem. Precsription and non-prescription.
I remember when Ted wrote that BI about Toothy taking coke there seemed to be a lot of people going "no way, not Jake". Well, you're fooling yourself if you don't think drug use is prevalent among young HW celebs. I am absolutely sure Jake has occasionally indulged, but he doesn't strike me as a regular user.

however, I do think unsustainable rumours would hurt his family and there's no need to inflict pain on them at a time like this.

I've taken drugs at parties, but don't have the money/inclination to do it all the time. It's not a moral issue for me, but a health-related one. What is going on in a young, beautiful, talented person's head when drugs seem the panacea? It's an interesting and relevant question.
I know, my feeling is just let's wait until all the facts are in. People like Britney, Amy Winehouse, etc. are still alive and here with us, people like Heath and Brad Renfro are not.
Of course, it's no ill reflection on someone if they are struggling with drug addiction, it's as much an illness as any other. I've had it happen with a member of my own family, and thank G*d they are now ok. It is what it is, as someone over at WFT posted. But, for a little more than 24 hours at least, I just feel let's wait till all the facts are in, there's plenty of time for the media to have a field day with it, and for discussion. :')

It's been 2 days but I still cant wrap my head around this. I am pleased to see that, except for a few crackpots, Heath is being universally praised for being so talented, was highly respected and well liked by his peers as well as his many fans. At least his daughter will be able to read all the lovely things said about him when she is older.

The massage therapist is her vocation. There are pictures of both her and the housekeeper standing and waiting outside the apartment looking completely stunned.
In all honesty, I know all the things you should do in an emergency. But being putting in that kind of situation, I'm not sure if I would be so thrown by finding someone that I would follow all those logical steps you are supposed to do.
Seems like that masseuse is known to be working in the celebrity circle. I tend to think she was just being overly discreet... if you work with people in the public eye - you'd learn not to notify the authority straight away when something happens. I read that she used Heath's mobile, clicked the speed dial and called Mary Kate Olsen, could be one of the clients that she recognised.

And as we started said walk in the Brentwood CountryMart parking lot- no other than REESE and JAKE came out of the a store holding hands. And we walked behind them around the mart. They kept turning around smiling at the dogs and held hands the whole time.
SHE is tiny. Like uber petite, little head, little body, the whole deal. Again what you see on film makes her seem like an average woman- she is tiny. Jake looked totally the same as always jeans, aviators, beard. They were really cute and looked very happy.
Then a paparrzo in a chrysler mini-van almost ran us over trying to catch up and get some shots. Weird.
*btw they looked pretty happy, I can only imagine Jake is pretty upset as Heath was a best friend and he is also Matilda Ledger's GOD FATHER....

If the sighting really was true we would have seen the pics by now. The blogger said there were paparazzi there.

This comment and type of thinking is SAD.. First of all you are not Jake and you don't know what or how he feels or how he deals with death. And if he is smiling (if the siting is true) it could be about something funny at that moment that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Heath's passing. Again, fans or so-called fans jumping to Conclusions with no merit at all. And all because Jake does NOT move to your time zone or react when they think he should. And, this is NOT about Reese Witherspoon. For all any of us know Jake could have made condolences to the Family in private and my take part in some memorial, or NOT. It's his choice. I just looked at the Ellen clip. It seems like a compilation show because it is the shows anniversary. Those things are usually pre-taped well wishes or clips from the guests like Ryan, Jake, etc. Jake pre-taped the birthday show when he was doing the stalker calls. Plus, the clip showed his last appearance when he cooked.

Oh god, I am just od'ing on all this Heath coverage. And it's so painful folks being here in NYC when it's in OVERDRIVE--Heath's lovely, pensive face on the cover of the NY Post, NY Daily News, etc.
That sighting was odd because the Insider confirmed that Jake is still in NM (unless that sighting is old).
Don't you just love Daniel Day-Lewis? ET will also be interviewing the real-life Australian gay cowboy who inspired Heath in his role as Ennis. They just showed a preview--he uncannily resembles Ennis but (not as handsome as Heath).

I came from WFT here because there was a discussion about someone saying that they read or heard that Jake wouldn't make a statement because Reese won't let have him being linked to Heath (the term used was drug user, but I will not say that about Heath) so I came to see if the poster got his info from OMG and I saw the link to that blog and then the Ellen show and I lost it.
Btw I'm not 'disgusted' only 'sick to my stomach'.
Personally I don't think there is a 'we' just one person posting over and over. Its just too pat to have a series of people posting in rapid succession all agreeing with each other that Jake is an insensitive jerk.
I question why a true TBer would be so ready to trash Jake over something written in a no-name blog.
Special K and Wicked, I would seriously consider deleting these comments because they seriously damage the reputation of this blog.

Who am I? I am a long time TB. I am not Sick to my Stomach (the poster, at any rate), and I can assure you that there is not just one person posting over and over. That is a myth. I am completely different from the other Disgusted, I just used the first word that came to mind in light of these current events. If Jake is in NM, I apologize. But it is unfair to make up a story that it's just one poster, it's clear from the writing styles that we are all different. I usually post here under my own name with a profile, if that's a hint to anyone. ;)
If my reaction to everyone's deleted comments becomes meaningless as a result then please delete it too.
FYI, there are photos of Sienna Miller walking her dog (with her boyfriend--that guy who's in "The Informers"--in tow) on Justjared. JJ mentions how Sienna is a co-star of Heath's and was friends with him. Sienna is wearing a hat that covers a lot of her eyes and her head is drooped--she doesn't look like she's happy--more like she's disturbed and trying to shield herself from the photogs.

Trilobyte, it isn't a quick trashing over a no-name blog. It's a series of things, he hasn't been the Jake I originally became a fan of in a long time. Maybe he never was, but I'm going to try to give him the benefit of the doubt. I cannot in good conscience support someone without question, and blithely look the other when they do things I don't agree with, and that is my right. A snubbing of Heath will be the last straw for me. Spesh, you can delete this one too.
Universal Features ,the parent of Focus Features, ran a full-page spread in today's Variety (with a shot of Heath as Ennis) paying tribute to him.
I saw that Broadway. It was a lovely tribute to him.
BWF, your mentioning of Sienna made me think of Casanova. It seems everything reminds of Heath these days.
Today my heart was even heavier than yesterday. I think with the initial shock subsiding the reality of his passing is starting to really sink in.
Stayed away for a bit today and it looks like a good thing I did. The initial stories about Heath and drugs have proven to be false, so I think we need to let some time pass before we believe anything that appears on the web not verified by hard data. Loved the heartfelt comments by Daniel Day Lewis. He did not even know Heath but had total respect for him. Very touching.

Michelle hasn't made a statement either and while of course Heath's death is going to affect her way more than Jake, can't we accept that people might not want to make a public statement while their feelings are still too raw? They might want to hold their thoughts of that person close and not put their feelings out there as grist for the Internet mill?
Et/Insider confirmed that Jake is still in NM? How? Was there footage of him on set or are they just repeating what TMZ said?
I ask because I was puzzled when TMZ said he was in NM on Wednesday because an extra posted on IMDB (dated 1/22) that she had just did a scene with Tobey and Natalie yesterday (1/21) no sign of Jake.
He could have showed up on set on Tuesday and was there wednesday as reported but there is such a short distance from NM to L.A. it's quite possible he was in L.A. this morning.

Like they did after Brokeback lost best picture. There is a paypal link to contribute to the cost of the ad. Any excess collected will go towards the publishing costs of the book for Matilda. Thought some of you might want to know this.

Update about e-mailing Fred Phelps- I reached out to some other websites but no one else has responded. I think a few folks at WFT will be with us but mostly we are on our own. All I can say is that I will be going to Phelps' website at 12 noon EST tomorrow and letting him know what I think. I know he doesn't care. But I do. If enough people do this, it could shut down his site. And I would personally love to inconvenience the folks at Westboro. They are probably making plans to travel to Australia. If their site is down, it might make it that much harder.

Interesting Ted column tonight. He stands by everything he said about Heath's drug use. He even quotes an A-list director (anonymously) who said that Heath had a heroin habit but Ted was unsure if that was recent or in the past. Ted also reported that Heath did NO looping for "The Dark Knight" which is making the studio nervous because they might have to use a different actor. Ted was said that he stands by everything he reported.

It's also possible that Jake & those who are part of Brothers have given the press (TMZ & ET/Insider) bogus information so that the press will leave Jake alone. Maybe he is in LA with his family and people he is close to, but doesn't wish to be bothered by the press about his loss.
TMZ is pretty astute and not likely to fall for bullshit.
Re the sighting- I just don't see Jake smiling and skipping with anybody two days after Heath's death.

On Just Jared, they are saying that they want johnny depp to finish the movie that Heath was currently filming...they saw there was a part in the movie where heath falls through a mirror and they can bring back a different character (johnny) and continue from there...Heaths part would still be in the movie.
Well, since a member of his family, Maggie, who would also be grieving for the loss of Heath, is in NYC, it is also conceivable that bogus info was given out so he could be there.
Of course, the set could also be closed because someone flew to him, someone that he's not supposed to be photographed with.

With regards to the various actors/actresses commenting, you also have to remember that a lot of them are commenting whilst they are doing press for their own movies.
So they are already standing in front of the microphone.

Our latest Aussie media reports are that Heather Graham (ex flame of Heath's) was spotted walking across the road from his apartment with tears in her eyes, there is talk that Heath may have been casually seeing Mk Olsen although not confirmed and that one of the New York newspapers reported that the massage therapist is not registered anywhere in New York and so legally can't actually be performing massages.
RE Jake. I say give him the benefit of the doubt. He'll surely be attending either the NY or LA services or both and we may hear from him then.

broadwayfan, Ted might stand by everything he says and he might be right but it was terribly insensitive of him to write it that way, and to bring up the episode with Tara Reid the day after Heath dies. Jesus.
I agree that Ted should not have mentioned the Tara Reid episode the very next day Heath died. Though Ted emphasizes that he is a gossip columnist, it was bad taste to bring this up when everyone was upset.
People react differently to death and shock. I personally tend to become calm and collective after the initial shock and then a few days later the smallest thing will break me down. Some become hysterical and some deal with tragedy by focusing on the brutal facts ("say it like it is"). I believe this is why Ted wrote about Heath’s rumored drug problems. It’s all about "let’s for once say the truth, people are dying because HW is contributing to this problem by hiding it". While I agree that this needs to be done, the time and place was wrong.
