It's So Easy Being Green!

What would Earth Day be without a mention of The Day After Tomorrow . A disaster movie of epic portions that could be prevented by greener living. And Jake is one who leads the way in going greener.

From buying mango and nut trees through Future Forest in Mozambique to reduce his carbon footprint, to becoming involved in environmental groups like Global Green USA, Carbon Neutral Company (working with companies and individuals who want to tackle climate change), and the Los Angeles Conservation Corp. Jake traveled to the Arctic Circle and the Inuit people with Salma Hayek for the movie "Everything's Cool" a story about a handful of global warning messengers.

A self professed recycler, he also gets greener in his cooking too, not only going organic but more so by choosing to buy from local farms wherever he is. The clothes on his back are greener, notably his
Loomstate Jeans, made of organically grown cotton, (Jake the new Mr. Greenjeans?), and for the first time in 2007 was named one of the Best Dressed Environmental by Sustainable Style Foundation. Even to the biggest events he goes green, with bio-desiel powered eco limos, low emission hybrids with Red Carpet, Green Cars at the Oscars, and attending the Green Party by Global Green. And course Jake goes greener with his choice of his go-to car, his Toyota Prius hybrid.

And what about his TDAT co-star? Austin is still the man of mystery on a lot of things, but sure that Jake's greener living has rubbed off on him. And have to surmise that Austin's life long love with water and water recreation, that he is a strong supporter of cleaner water initiatives, with water conversation and cleaner oceans, rivers and lakes projects.

Wicked's Easy Tips for Being More Eco-Friendly-

Reuse. Recycle. Switch to CFL bulbs. Turn off lights. Set thermostat to 68 in winter and 78 in summer. Set water heater at 120. Wash clothes in cold water. Use rechargeable batteries. Compost. Take mass transit. Go vegetarian, or better yet, vegan. Ride your bike. Carpool. Walk. Drive 55. Set fridge temp to 37. Set freezer temp to 5 and keep it full. Turn off the dry cycle on your dishwasher. Unplug "energy vampires" like TVs, DVD players, and iPod chargers when not in use. Use low-flow showerheads. Insulate your home. Eat local. Use a laptop. Drive a car with a manual transmission.

Probably most of us are already doing some of these. Challenge yourself to do more. Do you want to help an environmental organization, but don't know which one? Here is a comprehensive list of international organizations that are working to improve the environment. I bet one of them is exactly what you're looking for.

Happy Earth Day! :)

Major props to Stubborn for finding the Kermit version of this song in mp3! It HAD to be Kermit!

Note: This is our first co-post. Spesh did the first half and Wicked did the second half!

We need to all email Ted with questions about Grey Goose.

We need to stop e-mailing Ted. Or we need to not let it be known that they are our e-mails he's answering. It only makes people think that he keeps the TT BI alive just for us.

What a great co-post! Words to live by, for sure. And I love this song by Kermit. I love Kermit.

Thanks for today's post, and Happy Earth Day, everyone! :)

Happy Earth Day. I try to be green as possible, but that list is a good reminder that there are many more things I could be doing. ANd great song choice, thanks Stubborn for finding it.

Great post today. I do some of those things but I know I can do more. I will definately make more of an effort. The song was so cute too..Go Kermit : )

Happy Earth Day Everybody!!

I am awful for leaving things plugged in, like my iPod charger. My resolution is to try and unplug things I am not using!

A little something about "Bein' Green"

I have the version of Ray Charles doing it. But I keep thinking about the Sinatra cover of it, can you imagine?

Anonymous said...

Interesting that the Wiki article includes a study that pre-school children did not understand that Kermit felt happy about being green at the end of the song. That would be Sesame Street's target audience, wouldn't it?

From IMDb-

Biel was throwing her wardrobe out of her trailer the other day and has been complaining about unwanted attention from bystanders and how she wishes everyone would leave her alone. Granted, that's a reasonable request, but I wouldn't say she's being "delightfully friendly" at all.

"It's beautiful! And it's what I want to be..."

I'm gonna have this song in my mind all day long, and that's great! I know of Ray Charle's cover version, but it's always Kermit I think of when I hear this song. :)

It's pretty clear that the positive message to children about this song is to be happy with yourself, just as you are. A novel idea would be if parents would take part with their children, watch it with them and explain what they don't understand. :)

Oh I don't know they may have to get upgrade from sock puppets. Finger on the Baldwin button.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Russell's just making everybody happy! I read that Jake is a silent backer of this film, so I guess he can't walk away, now can he?

Anonymous said...

I never mentioned how much I love David Mamet's dialogue, in yesterday's post. I didn't see Glengarry Glen Ross, and will definitely have to. Looking forward to seeing Boston Marriage. :)

Special K said...

You know maybe Baldwin would be the answer. He could be play the Speaker of the House (ok he's a little young for it, but he does that the politico look about him) and he could run the Nailed cast group sessions. And he knows what is like to work with Tracy Morgan, who I suspect will be the next person we hear having issues on the set.

Can you just imagine the DVD extras for Nailed? Better yet imagine the DVD extras that don't make to the DVD.

DL Gossip-

"From the set, friend is a costumer:
Jake is a silent backer of the film and "has his moments". But, he's been cool with her since she said "i met you on october sky". the male costumer, though, says he's too big for his britches.
Biel is completely sheltered off from everyone and has her own costumer. My friend hasn't even seen her off set.
Pee Wee Herman and Catherine Keener are her favorites, lots of fun and very nice.
James Caan got into a fight with David O. Russell, threw a cookie at the wall and stormed off the shoot.
Lots of drugs, apparently, making everything more paranoid and weird."

Anonymous said...

I think Jake was not supposed to be photographed at LAX, because he spent minimal, if any, time with Reese while in LA. Anybody know who took those pix? I didn't find them on either Flynet or x17, the preferred agencies.

Thanks for the laugh!

"...making everything more paranoid and weird."

So a talking sock would fit right in.

I think this set is completely different than the tone of Sheridan's for Brothers. Which was the drama, not the comedy on Jake's list. Here the drama seem to be happening off set, hopefully that mean the satirical humor in front of the camera.

You wonder if the mood is because people are working on a dark satire, that it pulls different pieces of personalities out ? Or is it that they are taking their cues from Russell? You can see how it rots in the head and the stink comes down in other companies. When leaders in business treat their staff without respect or with confrontation, most times you have a staff that acts out or quits.

Do have to say I do like that Catherine is there for Jake, it is good to have friends when faced with challenges.

I think it's the drugs!

Sounds like Nailed is going to have a real war stories after all this is over.

Jake is a silent backer of the film and "has his moments"

Something to think about.

Did Jake come in as a silent backer because he liked the project? Or did being a backer give him "hand" in dealing with Russell? He might be silent but Russell still knows the position of those who back his film are in.

Special K said...

They should all get shirts that say, "I survived being Nailed!"

You wonder if they are getting hammered off the set.

Ohhhh bad just so bad. Hang head in shame over bad pun.

destiny said...

I love bad puns.

Considering the source of the silent backer talk is Data Lounge, it may or may not be true. Or maybe the person meant that Jake is getting a percentage in lieu of getting paid a higher salary.

Wicked said...

Data Lounge was also the source of the Reese has just arrived in Charleston rumors, and then she was papped both Friday and Saturday in LA.

I love, love, love NPH's candor and good humor.

I knew Jake was green but I did not know of all the things he has done. He really does walk the walk.

destiny said...

I love that interview with NPH too. I also love the fact that they are really using NPH to market the movie and that he is not shying away from talking about his life. Off the top of my head I can't recall any other mainstream movies that have done this.

Okay, majorly OT but I have to ask-who wins PA tonight and by how much?

Special K said...

A few more green things.

Things you don't alway think about recycling. Printer cartridges, batteries (check with you local multi media stores of office supply stores to see if they have a program --in the US, Best Buy stores do) cell phones can be recycled as well, old computer and televisions, appliances, even eyeglasses can find a new life for someone else.

I use Best Buy all the time for my ink cartriges Special. I'll have to ask them about their recycling program. Thanks for the tip.

Tips for being a green couple

Special K said...

One more recycling thing. Clothing, there is always a need for gently worn clothing especially women's work clothes. There are many men and women who are trying to get back on their feet and get jobs, but don't have the money to get clothes for interviews or those first few weeks/months at a job. See if there are organizations in your community who are in need.

Pundit

I really don't know who is going to win this one.

I think it is going to be a tough close one right to the end.

Will the Obama's comments made about PA voter's lose the primary for him or leave him the victory by a razor's edge of a margin?

destiny said...

I don't think Obama can win PA, the real question is how close will it be. At one point Hilary was expected to take it by a margin of around 20 points, but I think if Obama cuts that to under a 10 points it will be considered a "win" of sorts for him. I think Clinton may only have a margin of 5-8 points.

Regarding recyling clothes, even if you have itmes that are in bad shape you can still donate them as they can be turned into rags and used for other purposes.

I try to recclye as much as I can, but unfortunately there is no outlet for a lot of things. The one that always bothers me is that, at least in NY, you can't recycle plastic containers with a high number, and yet that is practically the only way you can buy dairy products like yogurt. Unfortuntately it sometimes feels like it is a zero sum game (get points for not eating meat, points taken away because of those stupid dairy containers). But zero is better than the alternative.

Maybe things aren't quite so bad on the Nailed set-

I was there at the state Treas. Office last Wed and saw nothing to indicate that Jake or Jessica were anything but professional. They were particularly nice to the kids on set. In fact the entire crew went out of their way to help the kids and make them feel special.

James Caan did not walk right off set. He hung around trying to work things out. He seemed upset but not the crazed lunatic depicted in these posts.

Lovely video, Rattler. Although I was upset that the boy cut down the tree!

Special K said...

Very very beautiful Rattler. What a beautiful way to describe love. Especially like, "my laughter is so happy with you" Can there be anything better than that? Thank you!

And I have to saw your Green gift for Wicked --one word -- exquisite!

Both are too lovely. Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy them.

It will be interesting to see the contrasts to BBM and the newest project from Ang. Talk about antithesis in the same time period.

Ang Lee sure does a lot of gay-themed movies for an alleged straight guy. Sometimes I wonder if ANG is our constructive sublimation poster.

Wicked said...

I look forward to this new movie of Ang's. It sounds interesting. I love how Ang does films that cover so many different historic periods and places.

I'm looking forward to this one by Ang too - I always love his work. I picked up a copy of The Wedding Banquet, so I'll be all prepared to bore you all silly with my ramblings on Sat.! ;)

can s'one say more about this?? i havent been here long so i dont know who youre talking about. thx.

Happy Earth Day, all. Of course, every day should be Earth Day. :) I'm a long-time vegetarian and I've always thought that that keeps me thinking about and walking along a green path. Things like recycling, composting and buying/donating second-hand clothing have become second nature to me. The area where I know I can do more is energy-saving, especially leaving things plugged in, I'm pretty good with lights. :)

Who else is craving a Homewrecker a day later? :P

Check out Defamer today. Making fun of Jake saying he called his mgr to complain the airport is too big, among other things. They can be nasty, but the tone seems to be light-hearted and the effort is to be funny, not mean.

Anonymous said...

defamer'Jake wants it more homey like John Wayne' hmm wonder how he would know.

Anonymous said...

wondering about ang, and why should it be? How silly, one supports and explore gay themes: must be gay!

Special K said...

That's the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

Caan walked off the set over a scene where the Speaker of the House chokes to death over a cookie.

It seems that Russell want Caan to choke and cough at the same time. Caan argued that his character wouldn't cough and choke to death at the same time. Russell suggested they shoot both ways, but Caan did not trust that his version would not be considered.

Here is a link to the Defamer story M was talking about. Defamer credits Bauer-Griffin for the Jake at LAX pics.

Caan is right. If you are really choking, you are NOT able to cough. That is how you can tell if someone is actually choking or not. When you learn the Heimlich, they tell you that if the person is coughing, encourage them to keep doing so. You only do the Heimlich maneuver when the person is no longer able to cough.

london tb said...

I quite admire Caan for sticking to his guns on that one. And I'm pleased Catherine Keener is there because she seems nice and sorted.

Ang's new project sounds great - I love everything he does.
