The Saturday Polls

It is Saturday, so there be polls! The first one relates to the two possible blockbusters that Jake is rumored to be doing. According to IMDb, Prince of Persia's release date is June, 2009. Orlando Bloom is still rumored to be attached to this. The Untitled Moon Project, also possibly called Giant Leap, is also listed as releasing in 2009, no more specific date associated with it. Jake is listed as attached to this film. I would imagine Untitled Moon Project would release in the summer, to capture the summer moviegoers. I can't see Jake being in two action/adventure/potential blockbuster films coming out at around the same time. Makes me think something's gotta give. So which one would you rather see him do?

You know that I like to do polls for both of our boys. Spesh and I came up with a few ideas about possible roles for Austin. Which of these do you all think is best for him? This poll is a bit different, as it has been configured to be multiple choice! Now, don't abuse this feature by voting for everything! (Spesh this means you!)

My fave of the new Jake on the Nailed set pics. He's shaving! The Anti-Beardy-Beard brigade is pleased! Amazing how many pics are coming out of this movie set. From IHJ, of course.

*REMINDER*- Next Saturday, 4/26, is our first Movie Club. The movie is Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet.

OMG wishes everyone a Happy Passover! Try not to eat too much! Today's song is a traditional Passover song.

Reese is never seen walking her own dog and if she does have a dog walker, as TR suggested, then these pix of her walking Atticus are even more ridiculous. Clearly, they are meant to show- here I am walking my hot, younger, very real boyfriend's dog. Sorry, hon, but there are some of us who are not fooled. At least the Babblers are eating it up for her.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but the only blog where peoole are talking nonstop about Reese is this one......

My, endless discussion about a woman who is walking a dog...

Call me when Jake and Austin are the main interest here again...

Yay! I love polls. Blockbuster for Jake? I voted for Prince of Persia because, although the Moon project would be great too, I think that if he wants to do a BB, why not go allt he way, and Prince of Persia has the potential to be HUGE, I think. It would appeal to a broader audience, and have sequels. I'm also curious about how it will be done, with lush costuming and set design, and cinematography, and of couse, those special effects! Jake is looking fine as Howard Ryder. :)

For Austin - several of those choices would be appealing, a Merchant-Ivory type film, but I chose Jay Gatsby, because I would love to see him play a multi-layered character, and he's got the right look. I may have to read it all over again now!

Happy Passover! :)

I chose Prince of Persia for Jake as well. I think it's a franchise that would provide enough depth and shadows for Jake to sink his teeth and acting chops into. As I said before, I think he's carried this superhero part desire with him all this time and this might fit the bill. I'm not totally for it at the same time, but I feel he could make it work and elicit surprise.

For Austin, I chose a Merchant-Ivory film. I think he'd be stunning in a period piece. He has incredible presence and charm. I'm ashamed to say I've never read The Great Gatsby, but from what I know of that character, he'd be wonderful in that, too. I was actually torn and nearly voted for a Cary Grant type comedy. Again, he'd be perfect.

Happy Passover and a lovely, sunny weekend, all! :)

Special K said...

I am leaning toward Prince of Persia. Why? You are going to go do a box office blockbuster - why not do with something with a guaranteed fan base and franchised potential. But Doug Liman's (Moon Project) credits as executive producer of the entire Bourne series and Mr. & Mrs Smith are very very impressive. That is tough.

Did I vote for everything for Austin - no but I voted for a lot!

Get him period work! He was meant for it. Of course my heart says Darcy, but my head says Jay and Forester.

But have say I would love him in a screwball comedy like Bringing up Baby.

Happy Passover!!

Austin does have the perfect look for a role in Gatsby - great thinking there, SK.

As for Jake, I was really disappointed to read about him throwing hissy fits on-set. I hope it's just the stress of working with a notoriously difficult director.

I voted for the Moon project - sounds like a big blockbuster.

Picks up the story of the strife on the Nailed set

Clarity said...

I voted for Moon Project although Im sure either one would be ok.

I could definately see Austin doing Jay in Great Gatsby or a Indiana Jones type movie.

The hissy fit incident didnt bother me as much as Jake possibly being dismissive to fans. I really hope thats being exaggerated. Just the thought of him doing that is depressing.

Wicked said...

I want to see Jake in the Moon Project, but I bet you all could have guessed that!

As for Austin, I really want to see him as a vampire! It has long been a wish of mine. I also like the idea of him in a screwball comedy.

Loving the shaved Jakey pics! Yes!!!

Anonymous said...

I bet the "hissy fit" incident was made up. There is no way Russell would reschedule shooting because Jake complained about the room.

destiny said...

I voted for the Moon Project, I think a Bourne-type series could be good for him ala Matt Damon long term. I think PoP may be the bigger hit, but a lot of actors in franchises like that have not seen a big bump in their careers.

I had to vote for Austin as a vampire, like Wicked it has long been a dream of mine. But I would love to see him as Darcy or in a screw ball comedy. Heck, I'd love to see him in just about everything on that list.

I see Jake's absence from LA didn't stop the usual Friday appointment with the paps. And there are advantages to using Atticus; for one, he's on a chain so he can't stand miles away from her even if he wants to. I can't believe anyone with a brain in their head would still believe these are not set up photo sessions after this one.

destiny said...

Forgot to say Happy Passover.

Anonymous said...

Not sure why peopel feel they have to come up with some bizarre explanation over the psychology of Atticus and his relationship with Reese. Do you need to go to that length to reassure yourself that in no way those pics can imply Jake and Reese are for real?

Anonymous said...

Reassure? LOL! Speak for yourself!

Anonymous said...

Insecure is a good name for you. It's clear you don't like it when we talk about Reese and her participation in this fauxmance. I see nothing wrong with talking about how bullshit these latest dog walking pix were. We might as well call her out for her fakery. No one else is! Go back to Babble now.

Ted has said he wouldn't even tell his own mother who Toothy is!

I think E!'s legal dept. keeps this from happening. Each of his columns must be vetted by the legal eagles before publication.

He has a pretty good record and he has admitted to being wrong in the past.

I chose PoP, though I really want the Moon Project. PoP will be supposedly be filming partly round London so that's my reason. (It's probably going to be effects or post-production or something, though).

Austin, I went with his looks and had to choose Gatsby and Merchant Ivory. Though I'd actually like to see him in a Henry James or Edith Wharton setting too. Yes it's the clothes and I'm amazed he hasn't gone this route already.

I so don't see him as any kind of vampire :D

I can't believe Gatsby is winning this poll for Austin! Vampire all the way! And I am shocked that so few people want to see him in Romeo and Julio. What if Jake was Julio? Would that change your minds?

Anonymous said...

aptonym, here we go again. You seem to spend a lot more time on Babble than I do, as a matter of fact I know it exists only because of you pointing it out. So maybe YOU should go back there for your daily patrolling. I am not insecure on my beliefs, I don't need to bash on Jake, Reese, the chihuahua, improvise dog psychologist or call everyone who does NOT give a shit for all the Reese talking/trashing a 'fangirl' to believe that Jake and Austin were and perhaps still are an item. That's all I have to say. Oh one more thing, I don't think it is a case of calling Reese out on her fakery. Good try though.

Anonymous said...

What do your last two sentences mean, insecure?

I went with the moon pic for Jake. The topic is a bit more mature and I just cant get too interested in the POP thing. As to Austin, I will settle for seeing him in anything. Anything. Although I loved him in western gear when he did Deadwood. Still dying to find out what he is up to these days. Isn't his birthday next week?

As soon as I see UV or FL names in comments, I skim over it. I already know what they will say. Jake is straight. If they just keep repeating that over and over maybe they will get someone else to believe that. They prostelize all over the web. I guess they cant get enough people to come to their own site, so they have to go door to door. But that is what scroll buttons are for.

destiny said...

I am not a Romeo and Juliete fan, although Romeo and Julio did make me pause for a minute before voting for the vampire movie. But since I think of vampires as open to both sexes, as long as we're going for our dream movie I was thinking of an indie movie in which we'd get at least one scene with some hot guy.

Special K said...

Yup, Austin's birthday is Thursday, April 24th.

The Bad Seed said...

I voted Austin for the action/ad & the period piece cos I think he needs both to appeel to diferent audiences. P&P Darcy has been done so many times I cant believe people would even want to see it again. Jay Gatsby is Robert Redford, sorry. Never saw BBB so I dont know what its like. Romeo, no. lol [just cant see him in that role]. Vampire? maybe later but now I think he needs to steer away of the odd and get a litle more mainstream to get his face and talent known.

Jake I voted Moon project. sounds original, mature, not like a comicbook like PoP.

I chek out GB but I dont post there cos its their blog and their view, so what, its thier right. [I also think alot of thier comments from people praising them are self written but thats thier business]. I doubt any omgers post there. but why they feel the need to post here [and other places] is wierd, comparible to a religious fanatics who want to push thier point on everyone else and take over the world. Theys got problemos fer sure.

Thx for the TWBanq reminder. Do we need to see it before Sat or are we all watching it at the same time on Sat?

Watch it before Sat and we will discuss it.

Spesh and I watched Ang's Lust, Caution when she visited. The sex scenes were quite graphic and we both swore that the actors actually were having sex in a few scenes! Ang is a fabulous director.

i'll have to see LC, SK. its amazing how many movies Ange Lee has directed over the years, how long it takes for directors names to get known to the public. i'm not usually attracted to asian men but i liked the lead in Lover [tony leung??] and i would def have an affair with Ang [1 nite or forever!!] if i have the chance. theres something about him..

Anonymous said...

The Lover. Oh yes, yes. One of the sexiest movies of all time. I had forgotten that one but watched it many times in my younger days. Based on the author's real life experience as I recall. Can't remember her name now but a very famous author. I look forward to the movie discussion re the Wedding Banquet.

Marguerite Duras? I read the book, and it was wonderful, but didn't see the movie. I didn't know there was a movie - was this the one set in Indo-China? I've been wanting to see Lust, Caution too - haven't had the opportunity as of yet, but am looking forward to it.

I have a thing for the 1920s era, so that's why I'd love to see Austin playing a character from that era - although he'd be wonderful in any period piece. :)

destiny said...

I haven't thought of The Lover in ages. I agree that it is one of the sexiest movies ever, and Tony Leung is gorgeous in it. I haven't seen Lust Caution yet.

destiny said...

Reading NETB's post reminds me that I've always thought Austin would be great in a period piece set in the 50s. I 'd love to see him play Neal Cassidy in a full-length film. I also think of Italian films from the 50s and 60s when I think of Austin, I can see him in those suits.

Music Luvah said...

Oh wait a minute - I think I did see it! I know I read it, for sure. Tony Leung is gorgeous.

I'm with Wicked. I would love to see Austin as a vampire. They do say that vampires are unusually beautiful people. So he's already there.

As for Jake's projects. I would not be interested in seeing either but from a career point of view, I think he'd be better doing the Moon Project. I don't think he can pull off the POP.

I agree with the commenters who say we talk too much about the R woman whether they are trolls or not. And for those who have to point out what is wrong with every picture, it does come across as you justifying your position whether you are or not.

I do think if the R woman is going to appear on Jake's set though, it's more likely to be this upcoming Thursday and weekend then at any other time.

It will be very interesting if this happens. And it will greatly indicate that somebody is trying way, way too hard.

I actually do like the idea of Austin playing a vampire, but I've loved those stories ever since I first read Bram Stoker's Dracula, so it's nothing new for me. For some reason, I'd place it up there with the most erotic things I've ever read. I still haven't made my way through Anne Rice's novels, which I'd love to do. :)

That is a very interesting article Wicked. I'm glad Ang Lee didn't change his film for an R rating; to me that is like destroying a work of art. I am going to read the story before I see it.

Wicked said...

NETB- without those sex scenes, the whole movie would not have worked. Ang did what he had to do.

Blue Velvet said...

I'd love to see Austin in an Indiana Jones type action/adventure role. I think he has a certain carefree sexiness about him that would make him the perfect choice.

I'll have to choose the Moon Project for Jake. I just can't picture him in PoP. Right now both Brothers and Nailed are much more appealing to me.

Music Luvah said...

I've wanted to see it, first of all because I love Ang Lee's work from what I've seen of it, and the previews looked beautiful, the costumes and settings, and the two of them. I seem to recall gorgeous flowers or something. And with the historical setting, it would be something I'd be mesmerized by.

Early this morning I voted for the Moon Project. PoP doesn't interest me in the least although I'm sure when it's done it will most probably be a big hit... even if the performances are wooden, the script a series of clichés and the real stars the myriad of special effects and fight scenes imagined and devised by Bruck & Friends Inc.

Would it be beneficial for Jake's career? Depends. What does he want as a career? I have to admit I'm no longer sure. Subsequent BO insurance? Despite Pirates, neither Bloom nor Depp can open a flick, even if their life depended on it. Do they get all the interesting scripts because of their blockbuster? Bloom certainly not I'm sure, since he totally sucks as an actor. Depp maybe? But Depp proved himself as a very versatile actor long before Pirates... that franchise simply added to his already strong and established value as a thespian.

Moon seems more mature as M points out so as a gut feeling, I'd say you might have a family-oriented winner coupled with proofs of more subtlety and acting range than PoP for Jake, which would make him a winner on both counts: big money and proving once again his capacities as an actor.

Of course I don't know what the deal is with Moon, nor with PoP actually, so like I said these are really "gut" feelings. I'm totally ready to admit my mistakes if Bruckhammer succeeds in adding emotional and psychological depth to a bunch of video game characters or if Moon proves to be a badly concocted mishmash of rehashed Disney-like themes.

And on a much shallower note: who said that Jake looked gorgeous in those Nailed pics? Whoever you are, I want to second, third, fourth and fifth your comment! :)

As for Austin, again I'm with M. I'd be happy to see him in anything!... well, except a vampire... Not because I don't like vampires, it's their portrayals in movies that I usually find extremely frustrating. In my mind, they're supposed to embody sensuality, sexuality, desperate hunger, the pain of isolation and of longing for pleasures which were once and are no more... Anything but the washed up emotions and demeanors we usually get from HW vamps.

I love the M&I idea, the comedy, a Gatsby kind of role. Please, could you let that poll open a bit longer? :)

Music Luvah said...

You're right, Frenchy, about HW vampires. Everything you describe and more. That's why I prefer to read about them. :)

For Jake, either of the roles sounds intriguing. Where he's done so many serious roles, the PoP sounded like a fun change, but who knows, if it isn't done well.

Special K said...

I think Austin would have done well in Whit Stillman's movies Metropolitan or even more so The Last Days of Disco.

I think Last Days of Disco for the clothes alone, I can see Austin totally getting into the whole 70's disco look. Although he would have tried to take the entire wardrobe home.

Music Luvah said...

^^Austin definitely could carry that look off too. :)

I remember the book "The Lover" vividly, and I must have seen the movie, I can't imagine I wouldn't have. Thinking of it makes me sad, because they had a racial barrier between them, and only when he was gone could she admit to herself how deeply she felt for him. Where have we heard that before? :')

So true about vampires, frenchy. Everyone thought Tom and Brad did a great job, but there was still no comparison with the way those same characters were written.
