In Groundhog Day the movie, Bill Murray has to keep reliving Groundhog Day over and over again until he gets it right . As that's just what Jake will will be doing in Source Code.
Jake soldiers up again, this time on orders to investigate a terrorist bombing. To do so he takes part in an experimental governmental program as Colter.
Colter awakens on a passenger train in another man’s body with no idea how he got there. He starts to explore his surroundings and finds a bomb… which blows up, killing him and everyone else on board. End of story. Or is it?
There's no Sonny & Cher playing on a clock radio, but there is a similar result. A reset.
After the explosion Colter awakens in darkness, strapped down with a monitor in front of him. He discovers that he’s part of a mission to solve or even prevent the terrorist attack. Nothing else to go on Colter is sent back to the train seventeen minutes before the explosion. He gets sent back again and again, always for seventeen minutes, each time bringing him closer to the answers and to a truth about himself.
Vera Farmiga, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, this morning for her role in "Up in the Air",is a communications officer who controls Colter during the experiment from a control room.
Michelle Monaghan plays a victim of the train bombing and the love interest of the man who's body Jake inhabits. Just days ago, an article about Source Code using Ottawa's train station as the train station for the movie mentions that Ben Kingsley might rejoin with Jake as part of the cast but how remains to be seen.
Source Code is a sci-fi thriller that's part Deja Vu, Groundhog's Day, 24, maybe I dare say Sliding Doors and video game. While it looks like it's all, it's deceptively more about the characters, and how the smallest things about them can change the course of reality
And just like Bill, Jake will do it over and over again until he gets it right but without an angry driving groundhog.
Source Code starts filming in Montreal the middle of next month.

I was started as an actor here in LA in the mid 90's and I was also gay but not out and it was eating me inside- especially when i had scenes with women..having to make out with them etc. Anyways...i made enough money to put me thru college and then i came back and transitioned to behind the cameras. Being in front of the cameras is so damn much pressure...the rejection and competition in auditions...you really only as good as your last role.
I am now happily open about my sexuality..i dont flaunt it.. but i dont deny it if im asked directly.
I dont blame actors starting out for staying in the closet and bearding etc.
Interestingly enough i find it easy to flirt with women/chicks..i guess since i know it wont lead anywhere. But with men/guys i have this weird awkwardness i get all shy nervous and flustered.

Maggie & Peter had stayed at Jake's last year during the awards. It sounds like they are bunking with him again. It's great that Maggie and Jake got to share a moment together, just brother and sister.

Interview with Maggie on ET tonight they called Jake's house phone to tell Maggie the news about her nom, so it sounds like they are bunking with Jakey.
Might possibly be a noisy household right now. Congratulations to Maggie on her nomination.
It will be a miracle if we all survive this new warehouse mgmt system. Everyone was really stressed today. Lots of red faces today.
So were they all, like, in California in anticipation of all of this? Could've been embarrassing if it hadn't happened. I haven't seen any of these movies. I haven't seen a movie since........uh.....hmm. LOLLLLL! You know, I can't remember the last movie I saw in the theatre. Ratatouille? Hairspray? I know I saw both of those at the theatre, I just can't remember which was last. I think it was that Ratatouille. That was a while back. I have a theatre gift card to use that I've had for nearly a year. Hope it doesn't expire on me. I just don't get into movies anymore.
I know that makes me like a really, really black sheep around these parts but hey, that's the way it goes. It takes all kinds.
Oh!! Could've been Mama Mia!! I just remembered that one, lol. Well, that one wasn't that long ago at least.

Source Code sounds really good; it's the first thing that Jake has done since Zodiac that really interests me.
I haven't seen all of the movies either, I'm not usually so behind. Love Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds and Serious Man, and rooting for Bigelow big time.
I liked Precious more than I thought I would, usually don't like movies like that, and both nominated performances are amazing.
Haven't seen Crazy Hearts or Up in the Air yet, but think some actresses who should have gotten nods supporting actress nods are Cotillard in Public Enemies and Diane Kruger for Basterds. Waitiz on the men's side gave one of the best performances I've seen all year.
Mr. Fox over Up by a hair, but would be happy if either of them won.
Star Trek and Imaginarium for the technical awards.
Seems that Bigelow and Cameron are on very good terms though.
I was shocked to read that Bigelow is 58. She is a stunner in addition to being a talented woman. I'm rooting for her.
Looking at Source Code's script there are on two basic settings for the movie. What's going to be interesting about making it is that basically it's the same scene set up over and over again, with a few changes to alter the outcome, but then the reset button hits again.
I don't think Source Code is a long shoot, I can't imagine it more than 6 weeks at the most.
They probably don't have the money for a long shoot. I'm sure he has more money than he did when he made Moon, but probably still a small film with a small budget.
Read while I was looking up about Ottawa station and Kingsley today, it said the budget for Source Code is $35 million.
This year I have already seen most of the Oscar nominated movies, and that has not been the case in a long while. And we have tickets for Avatar tomorrow evening. I have some opinions about who should win so far, but still cant forgive Oscar for the BBM fiasco, so will be content to read about the winners on the web.
Good news for Maggie. I have not seen Crazy Heart yet, but I can imagine the excitement in the household and I admire her willingness to take risks and to do small films she believes in. I'm crazy about Jeff Bridges. He deserves accolades. I still read Steven's blog every day, which has been focused on filming (Numbers) the past few days, a topic always interesting to me. I wonder if he will mention Maggie's nomination. Whenever he mentions his kids on the blog, he does it in a very low key way.
Source Code does sound interesting as well. Good cast, good director. I may get off my ass and see that one in a theater when it is released. Let's hope there are no delays or financial problems this time.
Speaking of Avatar, I read today that Sam Worthington is from Perth, the same city Heath was from. There is something about him in the trailers, making of, that reminded me of Heath. Must be the accent.

Sometimes I don't like my showers anymore because I associate them with my solitude times dealing with losing Dad.
Some of us just had a former coworker diagnosed with Stage 3b breast cancer, which was a real stunner. But my super updated us with some news regarding her sore knee that she's had for awhile and so they're going to test that, too. But instead of looking at the bright side that it wasn't in her lymph nodes or against the chest wall, she focuses on the knee and that it might be cancerous, too.
You know, I'll never forget when I first said on here about my dad and you guys were so supportive but not only that, some of you gave real encouraging news of survivors and others who had survived for several years longer than normal. And you know, that's the kind of stuff people need to hear when they get a diagnosis like that, not the dread and dark outlook. You have to look at the positive pieces of news and look at the survivors who beat it. You have to.
I don't know; that really bothered me. Anyway, it just brings it all back to me. When bad things happen in your life, the first thing you want is to go home and just hear your dad say hi and your name; always so happy just to see you.
It's those little tiny things, you guys, that we don't think anything about. You don't realize you're storing them away in your memory bank, but you are. And then when that person's gone, you bring that little bit back and that's what you remember about them. It lets you not forget about them because the guilt starts to come in that you are forgetting them.
Anyway, we appreciate those around us while they're here, right? Good thoughts!

Special, reading your comments on 'Source Code' and then seeing that particular image of the Ottawa Train station I was struck by the selection of this site. The winding, circular ramps and walls just put me in mind of product codes that you see on all packaging now.... ya know.... all those vertical bar codes.
It's cold as ever up here right now, down to about -20C last night which is -8F. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. When you go to sit down in the car the seat has no give at all,just a sub zero arse chiller! Ha. Hey ((PG)) we'll have to talk again sometime.

Today is a sunny day. It's feel so good after this cold weather lately. Hope it's the same for you!
This is it I SAW IT...and I cried twice. I rarely cry for a movie even for a drama but this time I have been really moved. I don't know how to start.
First Brothers isn't a perfect movie. I think for instance Jim sheridan shows too much informations about what hapenned to Tobey's character in afganhistan. Maybe for the viewers a bit mystery would have been better as for the cause of his traumatism. We would have discover the issue with Grace.
Secondly, its strange and I precise not having seen the original so I don't know if the screeplay is the same, but I wonder why it's called Brothers because in fact it's more about the post-war troubles and its consequences on a family than a brother relationship even if sheridan insists about the differences between both as the start. I regret there wasn't more interactions between both.
Here are the only two objections I have.
BUT this movie is so emotional, the performance so true and realist. All the cast is perfect and natural.
The little girls are futur stars undoubtly ,specially the older. You feel all her emotions in the dinner scene and after. I rarely saw a little actress acting with soo much truth.
Tobey , well he is good I guess. At least better than his usual works in others movies. More mature I would say. Nevertheless there is no enthousiasm from me on his performance. I think his face doesn't convey much emotions and feel overacting sometimes. He didn't touch me at all whereas what happened to his character is tragic, except maybe at the end in this touching scene with Grace.
Natalie is heartbreaking really. I suffered with her all the movie. It's one of her best role for sure. I love the sweet complicity with tommy. I am in isabelle team lol " I prefer uncle tommy"
And Jake... well I know some will say I am not objective lol but what can I say ?? he is wonderful.
Tommy is deeply good but out of control, is tender but a tease, mature and childish. He on the limit all the time and you don't know what he is going to do in the minutes to come.
I don't know, when he smiles you I can't help smiling and when he is sad it's hurting. I cried the first time when Grace confesses him Sam was dead in front of the door. The scene isn't long but Tommy reaction was so... I have no words but I feeled bad for him.
The second time was when he tried to calm down his brother in the kitchen scene and after with the police, jake gives so much feelings with his eyes. His eyes are everything what tobey hasn't!!
Jake is a great actor and all the people who say the contrary know nothing. If Hollywood has intelligence enough this kid will have the oscar that this non actor VRP coffee of "what else" George Clooney robbed him in 2006!!!

I have to confess that I broke down and saw Brothers a few weeks ago. Sorry Tom, I had a moment of weakness, and then I felt guilty about breaking my own boycott! I went back and forth for days about whether to go, and finally caved and went when it was down to playing in only one theater.
I know I said I wasn't going to do it, but I never thought the bearding had anything to do with Brothers, and when it became clear that Reeke was absolutely dead I had a change of heart. (And then I had a change of heart again after seeing Austin at all those parties with Sophia, which seem to be saying its business as usual for them, and was sort of sorry I'd gone.)
Jake is very good in Brothers (even my unbiased movie-fanatical friends agree). I don't think he gets enough credit for his acting, and I think that is due to the low-key style. Its not showy, but he really nails it in film like this. You're so right about the eyes too Elinor.
I wasn't crazy about the movie itself though, and I really disliked Tobie. I thought he gave a one-note performance, like you said Elinor, always the same face, even before he went away to war. Because he seemed disconnected before he even left, I never found myself liking or rooting for his character.
I think it would have been better if it indeed was more about brothers and less about what happens to people who go to war.

I didn't want to wake them up and so I ran to the hallway and my brother's housephone rang. And my brother got up and he said 'Did you get nominated?' I said yes and we were just shaking! He said 'Your phone is going to ring all day'... He said he didn't do this stuff, interviews and stuff, as he was working so he just went straight to work. But I was thinking when I was sitting with him, I thought in these kinds of interviews, in junkets, journalists alwas ask me 'Does it help having your husband and your brother doing the same work as you?' I actually was thinking this morning, sitting with him, I thought 'This helps'. It helps that he's been through this. That he knows how it feels. So exciting and overwhelming and scary and thrilling. And he knew.'
