This is a great three piece sit down with Duncan and Jake about Source Code.
Check out parts two and three here.
They talk about the movie, the Q&A session on Friday night, the conscious Hitchcockian feel in the movie from the script, the art direction, wardrobe, music, the advantages of a smaller budget in terms of filmmaking, Explosions with their own personalities, Jake's taking on his own stunt, working with Duncan as a director and the similarities of Duncan and Ang, Jake saying he would like to direct one day and Pee Wee being very clear what the Source Code is.Jake and one of his favorite movie guys Ben Lyons sat down for a little chat about Source Code at Gourdough's donuts last day Saturday. (If Duncan was there - then of course - wait for it - it would have been Duncan Donuts - please keep all groans to yourself)
(and hey where did the donuts go? They were on the table in the still, but during the interview they were gone.)
Wonder if Jake got a t-shirt when he was there. You know with a Sharpie pen or a little piece of black tape - PRESTO! Birthday shopping for someone's birthday next month - all done.
Did he or didn't he? From tweets about how Jake said pecans and caramel, all signs point to a Granny's Pie donut. But did the fittest man in Hollywood indulge in the carbs?
It's just bananas to think.

Who knew that interviewing Jake would create such a tussle between AOL/Moviefone and Techcrunch about snark.
Ladies please
:) I thought that was one of the best interviews with Jake I have seen, and he looked great. He seems comfortable in Austin, and knowledgeable talking about the film. :) Duncan's interview was good too. Really looking forward to SC now.
That donut looks fantastic. Can't look for too long!
Looks like Reese is getting married at the end of the month. I always thought that relationship seemed like the real thing.
Michael K of course has something very funny to say about it:
I understood why Reese and Jim got engaged in the first place. The word "fiance" is much more fun to say than the word "boyfriend." It's like a delicate puff of fanciness leaping off your tongue. My cholita cousin pronounces it "fee-on-sea," and even she sounds like an International lady when she says it. But I never thought Reese would actually turn her fee-on-sea into her husband! What an ice cold FUCK YOU to Jake Gyllenhaal!
When Reese and Jake stopped skipping down the streets together, the rumor was that it ended because she didn't want to get married. Jakey would constantly hum "dun dun dundun" around the house, but Reese would always respond with silence. So it should be Jake under that canopy of white lilies! It should be Jake seductively pulling the garter off his leg at the reception! It should be Jake!
I swear, I hope Reese's veil gets stuck on her chin when Jim tries to pull it up. Heartless!
He also has a very funny post on Joe Jonas claiming he's not gay, and runs his quote next to a very similar quote from Ricky Martin from many years back.
I agree Music Lover, it is a great interview. Thoughtful yet fun, introspective and confident.
There is something that I noticed in Jake's interviews out of Austin , there was this level of deep serenity about him. Like everything was in place.
Music Lover and Special... Have to agree with you both on the Duncan/Jake Interview, and thanks for posting them as they were such a great window on a number of levels.
I also sensed the serenity in Jake, he and Duncan were very comfortable with each other and very respectful also. This was a true collaboration or meeting of the minds.
What struck me about Jake was how calm he was but also when he looked at Duncan directly, (as he did frequently), it put me in mind of a few interviews he had done with Heath during BBM promotions. Those doe eyes of Jake as he totally looked around to Duncan on his right. The one thing that was different was the abscence of what I'll call the "look of love".
What I was sensing from Jake was a level of respect and collaboration that they shared working on Source Code, but having seen that before when Jake gazed at Heath but with an obvious gleam or intense loving vibe.
I hope I`m explaining myself clearly, it was such a familiar framing of an interview visually, but the difference being that Jake shows now attraction for Duncan, yet with Heath, it was almost as if he were looking at Austin.
Oh well.... good night everyone.
One thing Jake has missed in his career is making a strong connection with a director that he makes repeat films with as has happened with some others. He and Duncan look comfortable enough that more films may follow.
Oh yes, he did look settled, serene, content and satisfied in Austin. Yes he did.
Ted's often gives me a headache when he tries to be too clever. There is no doubt Toothy remains Jake despite his confusing statement. Years of clues point to Jake and only Jake. If I had to guess I would now say that the kid(s) are being raised primarily in Austin.
Special, you deserve extra credit for finding a picture of Austin with a banana after Jake's banana peen surfaced.
PG, I saw your comment about not updating your story anymore. I am still reading so I hope you don't give it up. I just rarely, if ever, comment on author's stories. There is not enough time to keep up with comments here and elsewhere too. But I am still reading the stories that gets posted.
Great Review from Den of Geek
Early trailers all pointed towards a respectable, mid-budget thriller of the Deja Vu variety, a diverting evening's entertainment, and nothing more. For a director who created an astonishingly personal work like Moon, with its Oscar-worthy performance from Sam Rockwell, its loving references to 60s and 70s sci-fi movies, and emotive story, the decision to take on something as apparently generic as Source Code struck me as somewhat disappointing.
I was wrong. Wrong not only about the film being a forgettable action thriller, but also wrong about it being less personal or steeped in sc-fi lore as Moon.
...Gyllenhaal is great in the lead role, and like Rockwell in Moon, he's in almost every single scene. This being a rip-roaring thriller, however, Gyllenhaal's character isn't invested with quite as much depth as Rockwell's, though it's to both Gyllenhaal and writer Ben Ripley's credit that a straightforwardly heroic protagonist can provoke so much pathos.
...Almost by design, Source Code doesn't quite match the near-perfection of Jones' debut, Moon, but it comes close. At any rate, I'm struggling to think of another recent genre thriller that has kept me as enthralled or enthused as Jones' sophomore effort, and that includes, dare I say it, the ambitious yet flawed Inception.
Source Code has flaws of its own, but as a 90-minute express ride of ideas, great acting and superb direction, it's genuinely unmissable.
... Source Code is a rare example of a film that wisely underplays the strength of its hand.
4 out of 5 stars
How come the confusion about how long Jake stayed in Austin. Tweets seemed to have him in both places.
m I saw the The Social Network. You were correct. It was very good and the acting was great. Justin Timberlake was great. The guy is very talented.
Well I finally get to see my first game today in Clearwater. Really looking forward to it. The weather couldn't be better down here.
Dear Ted:
So are Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols still BFFs, or has that bird flown the coop? I miss seeing the pictures of their combined hotness!
—Dreaming In Dallas
Dear Me Too:
I miss their sweaty BFF shirtless runs, also! Yes, they're still very good friends, but I think somebody's publicist just said tone down the Matthew McConaughey crap, that's all.

I enjoyed the title design short Austin linked to; I've always had a thing for good title design. Movies from the 50s and 60s have the best. I also realized from watching the clip how much good title design there is on TV, particularly Mad Men and shows on HBO.
I really like that title design short too. I am all about those kinds things in movies, that and the art direction.
And for you movie buffs out there try this challenge.

I guess we need to say thanks to Ted for reaffirming that Jake and Austin are still together. Not that we've ever doubted it for a moment. But thanks anyway Ted. And we know who's publicist gave the directive too.
