Wii Divas Live!

Jake says the only way to be successful at Wii Tennis is by listening to Whitney Houston.
Jake spoke about how he winds down when making movies. "He enjoys playing the sports-based computer on movie sets, and makes the game extra special by singing Whitney Houston tracts while taking part. He finds that satisfies his urge to sing in public, which he is often too nervous to do." Hey maybe that was going on in the trailer. ; )

When has Jake been nervous to sing?

On video doing his best Boss?

On the set of City Slickers belting out the score of South Pacific?

On national TV doing Dreamgirls?

“I don’t really do karaoke that much!" ( and you never did Effie from Dreamgirls before SNL)

But what are his signature song if he does? " What’s that song I Just Wanna Dance With Somebody? I always want to do The Bodyguard soundtrack I Will Always Love You. I like that,”

But instead of karaoke?

“No, maybe just a bit of Wii tennis [on set], while I’m singing Whitney’s I Will Always Love You. That’s the only way to do it really. You can’t play Wii tennis when you’re not listening to Whitney Houston.”

Do you think he yells .."BOBBBY" on his returns?

Two songs does not make a set tennis or otherwise. So to help out round his list of go to hits it's a Top Ten List just for him.

Top Ten of more Whitney Houston songs for the Jakey G Wii Tennis/VH1 Divas Live sing-a-long.

10. So Emotional

9. Saving All My Love For You

8. All the Man I Need

7. Run to You

6. I'm Your Baby Tonight

5. You Give Good Love

4. I Have Nothing

3. Greatest Love Of All

2. I'm Every Woman

and the number one extra Whitney Houston song for the Jakey G Wii Tennis/VH1 Divas Live sing-a-long.
How Do I Know (If He Really Loves Me)

I could open with Saving All My Love for You, then One Moment in Time,
if it goes to 5 do Greatest Love of All for the third set,
so I can save I Will Always Love You for the final.

Now Austin? Celine? Christina? Shania? Who's the Boss Diana Ross? The Queen Aretha?

Has anybody thought that Jake might be riding a motorcycle because the cop he plays in End of Watch might?

We know how Jake how goes all out to get a part, and prepare for one. If the cop rides a bike or Jake thought this character was guy who would ride a bike, Jake want to look like he's a pro at riding.

probs not said...

That premise doesn't lead to a lot of buddy cop to buddy cop interaction does it.

That was exactly my point. Jake is looking butch in that photo. That description is not a insult. His appearance and demeanor in that candid pic is decidely testosterone driven. Notice that he has no hint of a smile (almost scowling), all business, determined to get where he is going. Hence the "spread 'em phrase.

EoW said...

It's still an insult no matter how you spin it...NOW.

Anyway, the info says the movie is "a gritty drama that follows the friendship between longtime partners". As you can probably figure out yourself, motorcycle cops don't have partners in the traditional sense.

Then what were Ponch and John?

Methodical Muser said...

We will simply have to disagree. For me, indicating that someone looks masculine is hardly an insult. EVER.

Didn't Austin once say about Jake's voice that the boy could really sing? And, I remember other's have complimented Jake in this performance area as well, including Ed Zwick. I can't understand why he suddenly feels the need to downplay that particular talent.

Back in May, 2004 when Jake was on MTV-TRL in London, he said: "Yeah, I mean look man, I have been singing since I was a little kid. It's something I've done alongside acting--probably singing longer than I was acting so I am confident in that. My dancing, not so much."

Oh calm the heck down. Good grief.

I know Jake's often laid a jacket over his shoulder like that - I do that sometimes with a teatowel when I'm washing dishes. That's the only time I've done it though, certainly not with a sweater or jacket. It might fall off.

I still think it's an attempt to look "cool".

I know, roll your eyes. Don't care. That's what he is trying to do. It's not a crime. We all do stuff sometimes to try & look cool, who hasn't?

It is what it is.

prairiegirl said...

LOL to CHiPs. That's a good point.

EoW said...

Re CHiPs - that's why I said "not in the traditional sense". Traditional, and most likely what this film will depict are two cops who ride around in a car together.

Yes, that's an excellent observation. Still, I can see Jake bringing out the motorcycle more just because of it's association with urban law enforcement. He's a great marketer and no doubt sees the tempting tie in.

Maybe he just likes to ride a motorcycle like a lot of other people, no great mystery, rather dull actually.

The news is on and reminded me of what I saw earlier today.

Geraldine Ferraro passed away today at Mass General Hospital here in Boston. she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Ferraro was the first woman nominated as a candidate for Vice President on a major party ticket with Walter Mondale in 1984.

lol, but it's fun sometimes to dissect and analyze.

Or else, maybe a co-worker of mine describes it best when she would probably describe such minute detailed discussions as "anal". lol

Love this song, always have. And as I was telling someone today, I absolutely LOVE The Bodyguard. I saw that movie just a ton of times, to the point of following it long distance to dollar theatres. My sister, a girlfriend and I were obsessed with it. It was so bad that we would sit in the theatre and recite lines before they were even said. LOLLL!! We even went to the Nelson Art Gallery once because they were showing Yojimbo, a movie that Frank Farmer & Rachel Maron went to see on their first date.

I mean, does it get any nuttier than that?

**sigh**. Frank Farmer & Rachel Maron. One of my all-time favorite couples.

Jake was an adorable little tot, wasn't he? You want to just pinch those cheeks. He must be what, 4 or so in those pictures? Lookit those little baby legs.

And lookit that little knobby thing in his hair.

Oh brother. I was sitting here typing and realized I was hearing this gnawing noise and so I had to go investigate. Kirby was chewing on some wood trim in the hearth sunroom!! Good grief! I don't know where that toy is that I bought him yesterday, probably outside. I told him that was what he needed to be chewing on and not the house. The new toy has had all the stuffing pulled out of it already. grrrrr.

Okay, last one for a little while. I need to get some writing done. This falls under one of those "I knew I shouldn't have looked but I did" kind of things.

From US Stinkley and "5 things you didn't know about Jim Toth":

1. He had humble beginnings. After moving to L.A., Toth toiled in the CAA mailroom before working his way to rep Scarlet Johansson, Robert Downey, Jr and others. Witherspoon is also a CAA client, but Toth has never represented her.

2. He's brainy. Toth graduated from L.A.'s Loyola Marymount University with a degree in political science.

3. He's a macho man. He loves sports and counts The Godfather: Part II among his favorite flicks. He's no slouch when it comes to fitness either. Toth has shown off his buff physique during runs with Witherspoon near their L.A. home in the Brentwood neighborhood.

4. Witherspoon loves doting on him. "Reese is all about Jim," a source close to the actress told Us. "She visits him at the office and sends him treats like cookies and danish. She just adores him."

5. Her kids think he's cool. Witherspoon's daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7, (with ex Ryan Phillippe) love hanging with Toth. "He definitely lets Reese do the parenting and is more of a fun friend for the kids," a source told Us. "He's a guys-guy and Reese has made a big point for Deacon to get to know him. When they hang out, they play ball or watch football."

I'll tell you one thing. I have never heard any friend, relative or co-worker say they had their child hang with a man because he was a "guy's guy". Why does that even have to be said? How stupid is that?

Special K said...

Yojimbo translates into the word "bodyguard." Great Kurosawa movie.

The Bodyguard was written in the 1970s, originally for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross. That fell through because McQueen wouldn't second bill to Ross. Then they tried with Ryan O'Neil with Ross. And the just couldn't get along at all.

Then Costner picked it up in 90's and approached Madonna about the lead but that didn't work out(remember when Costner met her in her documentary Truth or Dare).

Past couple of months there's talk about remaking it and updating it to include the Internet, Twitter etc. Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson and Rihanna have all been mention for Rachel.

Wait you don't think Jake is trying to campaign for the part? :D

"Austin can you run lines with me? No I'm not Farmer, you are."

prairiegirl said...

I didn't know Kevin wanted Madonna for the role. It worked out for the best with Whitney.

Sounds like Jake is at Chateau Marmont tonight. I see a couple of tweets:

prairiegirl said...

LOL! Now I'm going to think of Jake every time I hear this song or another by Whitney.

He never struck me as a Whitney Houston fan. I think that's hilarious and I don't know why but it is.

Never a dull moment when it comes to Jake said...

Maybe he just likes to ride a motorcycle like a lot of other people, no great mystery, rather dull actually.

There was a time when I might have bought that explanation, but no more. Jake is a manufactured product now. The fact the story was pimped on Just Jared tells me this is PR generated. With Jake's new cop flick on the way, I'm sure we'll see more of this kind of thing while the film is in production. Just like the Jake we see on talk shows nowadays is suddenly Mr. Clean Cut.

Never a dull moment when it comes to Jake said...

One more point. Another way we know the blurb on JJ is PR driven is we don't see Jake enter or leave any motorcycle shop. We don't even see his motorcycle. Jake, in fact, is getting into one of his Audi Q7s. So one needs to ask why the focus on Jake's motorcycle when the pics themselves have no relationship to the throughline? We, in fact, would have had no idea where Jake had been if JJ didn't tell us what to think. See how the whole image manipulation works?

No. What was he doing then? Visiting the pram shop around the corner?

Thanks IHJ. So Jake was at or near a motorcycle shop. My point still stands. Jake wanted to be seen there. Good for the macho image he is trying to sell to the public.

But... said...

He owns a bike. Also he doesn't look too happy to be papped.

Jake and Adam Levine at the SoHo House LA last night for dinner.

prairiegirl said...

Yeah, I would definitely tend to agree with you, Never a dull moment.

If it's on JJ, it's generally going to be PR manufactured and done for a purpose.

And I'm sorry, but that stern look, shoulders squared back, arms out like he's in Dodge City ready to pull out his pistols, goes back to the Jake we saw when he was with Reese.

It's subtle but his body stance can totally change like that. Yes, he has a bike and maybe was having some work done on it, but maybe that was the convenience of it all, too.

prairiegirl said...

How did you know that about Yojimbo, Special? If I recall right, I think Yojimbo had a storyline similar to The Bodyguard.

And yeah, I can definitely see Jake as Rachel Maron and Austin as Frank Farmer. I think they need to work on that project. lol

This song was perfect today. I'm still cracking up at those screencaps of little Jakey on the bed. Those little baby hands, baby arms. Little baby knees. I suppose it's no wonder his mom practically cleared a forest to get him his Bankers print. His mom probably still sees that little boy when she looks at him.

Hmmm, unfortunately I think I may be onto something there. She does see that and that would be why she can't and won't cut the apron strings.

moms said...

I don't think you've uncovered any great mystery - most mothers of sons are just like Naomi.

prairiegirl said...

Ah, but I'm not basing that opinion just on the Bankers story.

But it's just another opinion that needs to be pointed out as "wrong", right?

Just like my opinion over on T2 last night regarding the texting picture. Shouted down like a missile. Luckily, there were others who seemed to have agreed with me.

mother and child reunion said...

Most mothers and sons do not have a relationship like Jake and Naomi nor are mother's usually that intimately involved in their son's career from the time they were born. Never mind her "professional" advice to push him into the closet, beard and more than likely have a family that he won't publicly acknowledge. In fact, I think I know of NO mothers who would do that to their son. We are not just talking about apron strings here. We're talking about shackles.

Special K said...

How did you know that about Yojimbo, Special?
Kurosawa fan, must give props to my brothers who taught me to appreciate his movies.

IHJ says he was 7 when he was singing Born in the USA for his Dad. Leno played the clip on his show. Check out the dog nose he has on pushed up to the top of his head.

prairiegirl said...

Wow, he's 7?! He looks 4. LOL - yeah, now I see that's an animal nose on top of his head. I thought it was his hair! LOL!

That's probably about the most adorable thing I've seen Jake do in a picture.

See, I don't think Jake is making movies to just make money. Of course he wants to make big money, what actor doesn't?

But he was just a little kid here. And he was performing already. Doing theatre in high school, dancing for co-workers on movie sets, all of that he does because he honestly loves performing and getting attention.

destiny said...

I tend to agree with Mother and Child Reunion about Jake and his mother, having seen her a couple of years back at Maggie's play, at a preview (not the opening), and Maggie talking about how her mom would take notes on her performance. Then it seemed like Naomi was doing the same thing at the LAOD screening we all went to earlier this year.

JJ is very pr driven, and you know the paps just didn't happen to be hanging out in front of a motorcycle place, they were certainly called, and agree that Jake is working the butch image. But the funny thing I think about working that butch image is that at the same time it makes Jake seem gayer. But I much prefer this Jake to the bearding Jake, and nice to see the form-fitting shirts back instead of all those baggy things he wore in the Reeke years.

Same with the story on Kimmel about his friend and the Baftas. I agree with M, it sounded a bit rehearsed. IMO it was designed to address the criticism that he had gotten too upright about all things gay, while at the same time meant to show hey, I'm straight. Most people aren't going to be scrutinizing it and realize that it is kind of strange if you're straight for your people to think you were in an intimate moment with another guy.

prairiegirl said...

When I saw Jake's mom at the New York City Film Festival, that drove home to me just how involved she is in his life. That would be like a lawyer's mom going to observe a trial that her son was working. Or a mom going to a press conference to observe her son ask a politician questions.

You let your kid live their professional life because you trust they know what they're doing.

I think it's great that Jake talks about his family. But there's a point where I start to wonder why they are always the main characters in his interview stories. Count 'em: his mom, sister, brother-in-law and niece. His cocoon. His kangaroo pouch.

He's 30 years old and his people are feeding stories to the rags that Maggie is still "setting him up with women"??

Maybe there's a reason Jake was kidding about finding a bf for his mom; could've been something more underneath that. Now that I think about it, that was kind of an odd statement to make - it came out of nowhere if I recall right.

Maybe it was an attempt to exert his cajones.

prairiegirl said...

Oh, I agree Destiny - I much prefer this Jake to the Jaylor or Reeke Jake.

Well, going to some friends' house later this afternoon for a delayed St. Patty's dinner. More corned beef & cabbage!! Yea!!! Man, this lady knows how to cook it, too. One must use the Broyle's Corned Beef, too. It starts with the Broyle's.

And good luck to the Jayhawks!!!

What else happened yesterday? Reese got married.

I think Jake needed to be seen out and about yesterday to make it look like he wasn't bothered about Reese's wedding.

If you look at the sightings he was out for lunch and dinner as well as the bike shop.

Adam has a bike as well, and he spent the day hanging with Jake. Maybe he was looking at custom bikes. He does have a thing for custom cars.

Steve McQueen as the Bodyguard! Be still my heart. That would have been fantastic. Sex on a stick that man. Like Heath he just oozed sex appeal.

You can really tell that Jake is all about PR just from this SC campaign. He's been dressing like his character for that past month or so. There is nothing wrong with it. Business is business. It may even be in his contract that he has to fit the part while doing promo. But the naive should not kid themselves that it does not happen.

That comment about not being comfortable singing is weird indeed. Jake is a performer even before he is an actor. And as Ted says about Toothy, he loves attention. He's never been shy about singing - he even did a few bars at an awards ceremony. And I think he dances way better than he lets on. His voice is just OK though, not great. Maybe hanging with all these musicians and singers has made him a bit gun shy about it.

prairiegirl said...

Hey m!

And in case you were wondering what Jake was doing last night, here's a blurb on his "guy time":

From US Stinkley:
What Jake Gyllenhaal Did While Ex Reese Witherspoon Tied The Knot

All eyes were on Reese Witherspoon Saturday as she exchanged I do's with CAA agent Jim Toth, but what about the Water for Elephants actress' most recent ex Jake Gyllenhaal?

The Love and Other Drugs actor spent the night in the gutter. . . bowling!

PHOTOS: Inside Reese and Jim's whirlwind romance

Gyllenhaal, 30, and a group of friends (including Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine) spent the evening at the Spare Room in L.A. bowling and drinking Red Stripe beer.

"They looked really into it and seemed really relaxed," a witness tells UsMagazine.com. "As the game progressed, the guys started high-fiving each other; at one point Jake did what looked like a little dance after bowling a spare."

PHOTOS: Gorgeous celebrity weddings

Witherspoon, 35, and Gyllenhaal met on the set of 2007's Rendition and dated until late 2009. Just a few months later in February 2010, the Legally Blonde actress was spotted out with future husband Toth. Still Gyllenhaal, who's been single since his brief relationship with Taylor Swift ended in January, didn't seem to be sweating Witherspoon's wedding. In fact the he even managed to chat up a few ladies at the lanes.

First Gyllenhaal joked with a brunette. "They seemed very comfortable together but not really romantic," says the witness.

And around 1 in the morning, he logged some time with Sweedish model Mini Anden, 32.

"He put his hand on her back, trying to convince her to bowl with them and being really sweet," says the witness. "He looked like he was trying to give her a lesson on bowling. He seemed to want to show off a little bit."
