Sunday Night Supper Club

It totally came out of the blue.  I got a text Sunday from a long time friend that said,

"I'm in a restaurant in Koreatown, and you favorite actor is here"

Now my friend knows I'm a big Jake fan.  To the extent of the whole OMG thing - no,  but he knows I've been a fan for years.  He never texts or even mentions about the people he meets in the course of the production work he does so getting a text from him about Jake  I know is the real deal.

And then it began:

me: Wow. Who's he with?

him: Some guy

me: Tall curly hair great smile?

him: We're not hanging out together, K.  :)

him: He does have curly hair though.

him : From what I see.

me: That sounds like that's his boyfriend [I am not trying to explain the husband to via text] Austin Nichols who's on Ray Donovan and Walking Dead.

a couple minutes later

him: It is Nichols

There was no way for my friend to get a picture without being obnoxious, and obvious,  but the sighting reminds me back in the day when Jake and Austin would go out for Sunday Night Suppers at Jar.

And together in LA  -  Some things never change.

Making Rounds

Jake joined Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night), Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer), Michelle Monaghan (Fort Bliss), Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year), Kristen Stewart(Still Alice) and Bill Hader (The Skeleton Twins)as stars from independent movies that have that award season buzz at the AFI Fest Indie Contenders Panel.

Held Sunday night, November 9 at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel, the panel was hosted by The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg.

The discussion include indies vs, tentpole movies,  why the choice of doing independent films and what influence the project choices, and what advice would they give their younger selves.

Not only did Jake smile but it looks like there was a laugh too.

And he got a quick one liner in about SNL Bill Hader too.

Political Positions

New York on Monday, LA on Tuesday Jake was spotted at LAX on November 4th.

Looks like his "home" might be in New York, but not his polling place is not.

What ever happened to Nailed?

It looks like the movie went into witness protection.   It got a new name and new location and all connection to David O. Russell is wiped away or is that Russell wiped away any relation to it.

"Screen Daily reports that Arrow Films has snapped up the UK rights to the film that’s now called “Politics Of Love” with plans for a 2015 release."

No word if or when it can return to the US.

Big Screen Little Screen

There hasn't been much of Jake promoting Nightcrawler on the small screen yet with just less than two weeks till it's opening weekend, but Nightcrawler is doing a load of screenings on the big screen.

On Sunday night, there was a special screening of the movie at the Crosby St Hotel in New York City.

Jake was joined by the one of his fellow producers Tony Gilroy, who is the brother of writer/director Dan Gilroy.

 

Last week Nightcrawler had a screening in LA and was joined by co-star Rene Ruso and their director (and her husband) Dan Gilroy

Where Jake also met up with old friend Busy.

 

It will be interesting to see if Jake does do some more small screen time in the next ten days, or not. 

Not a crawl but a sprint

 PR is full swing for Nightcrawler by the looks at the number of interviews with Jake at the moment and it's not slowing down.

Jake was also on Queen Latifah's talk show with his co-star Rene Russo, who made a disclosure that she is bipolar which was unaware to even Jake.

But don't think all of Jake's interviews are only on tape.

Jake's been added as a featured speaker at the Producers Guild of America’s inaugural Produced by: New York event.

PGA President Emeritus Hawk Koch will moderate the one-on-one discussion with Jake who didn't just take on the acting role for the movie but was on the producers .


"Produced By: New York will feature 12 full conference sessions, panel discussions, mentoring roundtables and networking opportunities designed to address key industry topics and discuss the evolving world of producing."


Produced By: New York will take place at the Time Warner Center in NYC on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Working for the Weekend

It was a working weekend for Jake who arrived back in LA sometime before Saturday morning after filming Demolition on Friday in NYC.

Looking a bit tired Jake hit a two day press junket for Nightcrawler Saturday and Sunday and spent his Columbus Day taping interviews.

He also squeezed in the special screening of the movie in Saturday night.  Talk about a packed three day weekend.

Jake was scheduled to tape the Queen Latifah show for later date, but chatter on twitter suggested he was also over at Warner Brothers stopping in at both Conan and Ellen as well.   No official word on either, and nothing on their schedules be on the lookout for interviews in this second half of  October before Nightcrawler opens on the 31st.

Commercials are starting to be seen on TV here in the States as the ramp up to open weekend has official begun.

Not to be left out, Nightcrawler also released a new clip for the Internet.

Don't know Oogum Boogum doesn't have the same cache at Gooberballs.

And if Jake didn't have enough to do at the moment with filming and rehearsing for the play, he is also promoting Nightcrawler.

Jake will be filming the Queen Latifah Show  in LA next Monday, October 13 along with his Nightcrawler co-star and football great Terry Bradshaw.

So it looks like Jake will be having an airport arrival moment in real life.... the hugs will happen away from the cameras.

I Fest, I Fest ....I Forum

Yesterday was Austin's festival turn of the week, and today it's Jake.

Variety is reporting, Nightcrawler has been set as the opening night screening for the 10th annual Film Independent Forum at the Directors Guild of America on Oct. 24.

Following the screening there will be a Q&A with director Dan Gilroy and producer Jennifer Fox.

Film Independent "champions independent film and supports a community of artists who embody diversity, innovation, and uniqueness of vision. Film Independent helps filmmakers make their movies, builds an audience for their projects, and works to diversify the film industry."

Many will be more familiar with their award, The Spirit Award, bestowed each year prior to the Academy Awards, for the best in independent films.

The Forum will take place during the weekend of October 24-26 at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Los Angeles.


Looks like it will to bouncing back and forth from coast to coast for Jake, who started filming Demolition in NYC this week.
