Looking every bit the upstanding Secret Service agent on duty.

But then again Austin works in every decade.

Smoked to the Bone

A little Austin flashback today - courtesy of Full Count - (formerly Lenexa, One Mile)

Why the title change? Maybe Lenexa didn't sign off on it. Because even people in Lenexa, only like it, can't commit the love.

What's up that?

Full Count is the story of a group of high school friends the last summer before they split up and go their separate ways. Their friendship is put to the test "when a disturbing secret comes to light and they are forced to set out on a quest to protect and redeem the reputation of one of their own - at whatever cost to their futures." Set in then rural suburbs south of Kansas City in the 1980's it also capture a time before it became the ever expanding sprawl of the Metro. It was filmed on location all over Johnson County and Kansas City's Westport district.

Now for a fella from Texas - he had to try out some KC BBQ to compare with what he was raised on. And KC BBQ and Texas BBQ are not the same. Now he would never admit if he like KC's more but wonder if he's tried this one. ; )

Batter Up!

Full Count (formerly Lenexa, 1 Mile) actor's Jason Wiles directorial debut and homage to growing up in Lenexa, Kansas in the late 80's come out today on DVD. A coming of age story of five friends and their last summer together, hanging out at the Parks and Rec department, playing pick up games, playing softball, drinking beer, find their friendship tested and what they thought they knew challenged.

Full count is the term used when batter is facing the last pitch of his at bat, with a count of 3 balls and 2 strikes. This last pitch will either strike him out(3 strikes), walk him (4 balls) --giving him a base (free pass) or getting a hit.

Wiles went home to film Full Count, with 25 day shoot in Lenexa, Johnson County(surrounding towns Overland Park, Shawnee, Olathe ) and Kansas City (which Lenexa is a suburb) including K in May of 2005. Even then Austin was getting notices even amongst co-stars Jason Ritter, Chris Klein and Billy Baldwin. Tony Ortega in KC's alt weekly The Pitch says... "Nichols impresses us as a young man who's going places. He played a rich, preppy bastard in The Day After Tomorrow and a rich, sporto bastard in Wimbledon. This time he's apparently going slightly against type, playing a proletarian, bar-brawling bastard in Lenexa, One Mile."

With the 80's setting Austin got another chance to rock the Midwest Morrissey look with a little a little Vanilla Ice shaved side, and tight acid washed jeans. So much better than Chris Klein's mullet, but so on target for the Midwest, sadly even today. And the for the "Oops! I forgot my shirt" contract clause, yup it's there.

Lenexa, 1 Mile

“Fights, fake IDs, field parties, beer.” Is how Jason Wiles describes his semi-autobiographical movie about the last summer of a group of friends.

There were two screenings of Lenexa, 1 Mile on October 25th, a $50-a-seat fundraiser for the KC Film Commission at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 and a festival screening at 9 that night. It was expected that director Wiles and Chris Klein would be the stars that would be there for the screening, but it looked like it was Jason Ritter, and Austin, who attended with Jason.

'Lenexa 1 Mile' was shot in the KC area in 2005, the writing/directing debut of actor Jason Wiles (TV’s “Third Watch”). The movie was filmed in Kansas City, the suburban community of Johnson County, and at Kelly’s, a popular bar in the artist/entertainment district of Westport in Kansas City.

The cast also includes Jennifer Hall, Paul Wesley, Josh Stewart and William Baldwin, Michael Rooker and Michael Beach.

Check out the hair on Austin in the trailer. It looks like he has a go to Indie/80's cut, except for Lenexa he upped the ante with a little razor work on the sides. And you know that was probably his idea. That hair and those acid washed jeans, the boy looks like he is ready to head to Chess King for a pair of parachute pants .

No worries about missing Lenexa, 1 mile. It is scheduled to come out on DVD. Another DVD to add to the must have list.

And because there is never a bad time for a blonde Austin, here's another look:
