I certainly don't have a problem with Austin not coming out of the closet. That is his choice. I do have a problem with bearding though. I'm happy for Austin to walk the walk alone as he did on the Informers red carpet. The fangirls are happy because they think he is available and the TBers are happy because they know he's with Jake.
Austin doesn't have to say anything to anybody about his sexuality. And IMO, he certainly doesn't need Jake to beard, to straighten his (Austin's) image. I think Jake's bearding is to benefit Jake and Jake alone. Whichever way you look at it, it couldn't be fun for Austin.
And yeah, I like him a lot and think he's one gorgeous guy :)

My own imagined reality on how Austin got involved with OTH is that he visited the set a couple of times when down in NC when Jake was filming Nailed, Austin and Sophia being very good friends. The producers liked him, Sophia did a bit of lobbying on his behalf, and an offer came. Once he started filming, the producers realised that people were enjoying his part and it was extended. He probably did take it because of a lack of decent film offers, but you can hardly say that its not helped his career and profile.
And yeah, I'm with you flf, I too like him a lot and think he's one gorgeous guy :) (his bf's not too bad either).

I do not understand the argument that Jake's bearding makes Austin automatically straight. I would really love an explanation TR, or anyone else who thinks that is the case, because I just don't see how you connect those dots. For starters, if Jake is straight, can't Austin still be gay? Even Lainey says Austin is gay as glitter while insisting Jake is straight.
And TR, do you really think nothing has changed in television since the 90s? I don't doubt that we're probably not at the point that a leading man can't be out, but I don't see that television audiences have any issues with ambiguity, look at the way the Gossip Girl actors are playing it both ways.

Yesterday's events - I'm still gonna wait and see. Not gonna waste my valuable time on it, it's not worth it. I don't think much of bearding, I really have to give Austin credit that he hasn't done it. I really hope that Jake hasn't developed a bad "eff 'em, who needs 'em" attitude towards his fans. Usually the Reeeke stories on H.P. come from US Reekly, but this one originated with them. I guess H.P is trying to expand their original entertainment coverage, and PR saw an easy target.
Nailed was filmed in SC not NC. Austin was in NC filming Surface in 2005, OTH was already filming there. Some posters on IMDB mentioned that they saw Austin and Sophia hanging out together back then so they assumed that she put in a word for him.

When I first start following Toothy / Jake, Jake was paped all the time doing absolutely nothing important. Regular mundane things that we all do. Nobody or Toothy / Jake fan had any problems with it. All of us, some more than others loved all the Jake pictures on WFT, JW, IHJ, anywhere you could get them. Sure, Jake played the I don't care it comes with the territory thing 98% of the time, but sometimes we saw him break down and not want to be paped, and we knew it. He is human and not for once did I think he courted the paps, or doing it now.
Yes, I do beleive that some of the J/R photos were and are for Mags, ect.. Big deal. I was Just on some celeb. site, and saw close to 100 photos or celeb. couples over and over, not one Jake and Reese. HW at it's best.

Just Wondering, You and I see it differently. We just do. Not once did I say, or feel that Austin and Jake are "OUT" to Most people or HW. People in HW may speculate, but if J or A does not confirm it, and they have not, then it's still all speculation. Jake was dating Kirsten for years and Austin was dating some other woman, can't remember her name. When the rumors, (rumors) of Jake and Austin being more than friends started they were still dating those women. Do you remember this?
If Jake and Austin were in love and still are in love, I say I'm glad for them but they have a long way to go, especially with the current circumstances.
I believe they are very good friends who had a relationship on the side out of the spotlight with no intentions of the masses knowing about it. The questions you are asking about thier relationship issuses are not apart of my mindset because I think the rumored BFF relationship was suppose to stay undercover so to say, and I believe this. Not in the open. Some posters and Fans just simply don't want to hear this and now some are just Jake fans simply because he is supposed to be in a gay realtionship with Austin and they can't and won't deal with the (rumored) bearding that some feel Jake is doing, NOW.

From early 2006 til summer 2007 Jake was alone alot and he did not look HAPPY. Jake looked lonely and seemed troubled. Although I did not know this to be true, I felt for him.
Most Pictures of him were of his family or Chris. No girl and no Austin. And most fans talked about it. He was still paped almost everyday. EVERYDAY, and no talk about staged PR shots.

It's an immature, offensive gesture with no thought given to its real meaning; it's very personal and it's devoid of class. Actually I can sympathize with Jake on this one. I've asked people at concerts to be quiet too. I go to hear the music, not to listen to the people next to me carry on a non-stop conversation at a screaming volume, or to listen to drunk middle aged men scream out song titles and "wooos" at ear-splitting levels. And it infuriates me when people think I'm in the wrong for wanting to hear the music rather than them. I will never understand why people pay good money, especially at today's ticket prices, just so they can chatter away and ignore the music. I once spent an entire Elvis Costello concert standing next to a man who was loudly engaging the woman next to him in the hopes of picking her up. Heard every word of their conversation despite being only a few feet away from the stage. At the end of the concert she went trotting off to find her boyfriend who was sitting in another section.

I've had many a concert ruined too by talkers, people blocking my view, bad acoutstics etc. But stuff like that is to be expected in a venue like Coachella. I guess they could not move to a better location since that would put them out of camera range.
Huffington Post started as a political site, and their news content does skew to the left, but I think they are also tryng to be an all-purpose news site for us lefties, and they carry a lot of entertainment news. Unfortunately their entertainment news is just more of the same, no thought put into it, politically speaking.
Reeke was in the first row of the VIP area, right next to the stage. Right next to the stage and Jake couldn't hear it? Any closer and he would have been ON the stage.
I would think Reeke was annoying, the people behind them couldn't see, because Jake of course had to wear a big ass hood on his head and they were busy moving around doing the PDA maneuvers for the cameras. Look at the pics. Everyone is standing normally watching the concert but not Reeke. They wanted to be the main show. I bet the performers were thrilled.

And that means "MYself" and my space. Some want to project this Pollypurebred attitude and be appaulled at everything all the time while being a pushover.

honestly, i think if jake had gone about this a completely diff way, he could've ended up in the same position - or better - on his own two feet, but he didn't/wasn't willing to make the effort. so every a-list even he's at, every time he's papped now, is more because of her than him. if we subtract all her accomplishments away from his equation, then what do we have? A guy who made some ok movies, then a great movie, but then some more ok movies, and his fans lost interest in him after a couple of years. yawn.

Now about the show. I agree Destiny - I would be grumped as all get out if I couldn't hear the band. And especially since he has known the band so well and for so long. Heck, I almost got into it today at the game after having to get up more 15 times for these dufus guys to come back and forth in our row for every kind of beer run, pee run, food run, or anything else they could think of. All I wanted to was watch the game. "Stay in the damn seat and watch damn the game!!"

How is talking so loudly people in front of you can hear over the loud music enjoying the show? I will never understand why people think it is okay to chatter away during a show or game of any kind like they are sitting in their own living room and nobody else is present.
And I'm not talking about people who are whispering or occassionally scream out something. I'm talking about the chatter boxes and the obnoxious drunks. Oh, and those people who decide they don't like a particular song--often a ballad or quieter song--so they're going to chatter all through it, who cares if it is a song someone else loves and actually wants to hear.

Now, I do agree with you on the talking bit, that also bothers the shit out of me. However, going on just the info given, Jake reacted to other audience members enjoying the show, and how they were doing that somehow was unacceptable to him.

I've been to broadway and had people sitting close to me on a cell phone and or texting. I tell them could they please not do that. The talking and or the blue light is annoying me. One woman who gave commentary after every scene in a movie theatre told her husband to not mind me, I was ignorant after I asked her to please stop talking, it was annoying me. Her husband finally said to me, We paid our money to watch this movie. I said to him, I paid alos, but I did not pay to hear her comments after every scene as if I can't understand what's happening. And for those (DOCTORS) who are constantly on call and just cannot turn their cells off for 2 hours, I say, don't go to the movies, plays, and concerts, rent them since you are that important and must take every call and text now! And the non "DOCTORS", you're just rude and you have rude friends.
STAND UP
Okay, everyone gets annoyed when someone talks through a film, or uses a cell phone at during a play. However, Jake was in the front row, on stage, hardly slam in the middle of the crowd surrounded by drunks (mind you, Reese had probably knocked back a few pinas by then). Seems to me, its the irrational behaviour, which does seem to be a bit of a trend, that is the issue. You have to be fairly tightly wound if you can't deal with some crowd noise around you. If you can't deal with that stay at home and listen to the CD.
Medusa, what seems to be a TREND is to find fault with Jake around every corner lately. It's very obvious. If there is any post, anywhere of Jake and something negative, even if it's not confirmed as true, the negative comments are sure to follow with the disgust of Jake and his whole being. This happenss too often. Nothing has been confirmed and if so, nobody knows the just of what really happened unless you were there and witnessed it.
I have no idea what was going on at the Coachella, I'm just expressing my own experiences and feelings on the subject.
If you can't deal with a little bit of noise and the crowds I agree, stay at home. But I also think people who just want to talk and party with some music in the background should also stay at home. You don't go to a movie or play for the purpose of talking, why should a concert be any different?
And don't even get me started on people who text during movies and plays......hey, didn't Reeke do that? Kind of ironic for him to turn around and complain about bad behavior.

I am sure everyone was just thrilled as reeke stood there posing for hundreds of pics. It was night time there had to be flashes into everyones eyes. You can see reese directly staring into the camera on many of the pics. They took their own damn photographers. If there were paps there then I am sure security would have ran their asses off.
Jake gave the finger probably to make it look they were being annoyed at the paps. No pap is going to ne able to film these two people all day long without having thier asses ran off. No way. Re the ass grab: To me an ass grab is cupping the butt cheeks, not sticking your finger in someone's crack. But maybe I just think that because I'm a prude.
Hate to be dumping on Jake, but, for most of the time they were being photoed, they were either by a hotel pool, or in the VIP enclosure, whatever that is. Both places where if they were being seriously bothered by the paps, they could have requested that they (the paps) were removed. As said before, if you don't want to be photographed, don't stand in the front row of the VIP section on stage, its not that difficult to understand.
They went there to be photographed, sure they probably enjoyed the music, but first and foremost it was a publicity trip. Personally I think its more related to Reese getting the funding for her film Nice, than anything to do with Jake.

You all are making really good points today. I can understand some of this bad behavior but some of it I cant. I'm starting to really question JG and who he is. Not judging - just questioning. And the butt rub was down right weird IMO whatever the reason. Two bad reviews in one day is not good whatever the reason. It makes him appear to be straight. If his supposed gossip boyfriend turns out to be straight then his own gay rumors have less validity. He doesn't want to be thought of as gay, bi or ambiguous from the quotes I've read he reacted pretty negatively to those rumors.
My point was that he is not the pining victim but probably fully along for the ride. He has a lot to gain by proxy from the Reeking.
Austin appears to me to be more self-confident than Jake, less needy. Seems strange I know since Jake comes from a HW family, but show business is very volatile. Wealthy one minute, broke the next. Jake stopped his education at one year of college. Austin comes from a family of doctors or medical professionals, he's well educated with a college degree. He seems more self sufficient and comfortable in his skin. Since the Jake straightening effort is not working, I don't see how it helps Austin in any way.

M, I don't agree. Austin has always seem to have been more nervous in the limelight and especially when seen with Jake. Even early in the rumors before they picked up steam, Jake seem unconcern or nonchalant to be paped with Austin. Austin was the one that seemed less confident to me. He seems to be changing now. He's not as knew to HW and it's games and politics now.

M, ITA. Austin seems very comfortable with himself in a way that Jake never does. And Just because someone gets nervous at big events or when being interviewed doesn't mean they are not confident and secure. People who've worked with him have said he can be shy, and it's not as unusual for an actor as you might think. As for the comparison to Jake in that regard, well, there's the old cliche about clowns being unhappy and insecure underneath it all, and we all know Jake often likes to play the clown. As we enter into our third year of bearding, I think that facade covers up a lot of insecurities and low self-esteem that fed into his bearding.
I also think that not liking the paps has no relationship to a person's sexuality or confidence. Plenty of other actors don't love them, does that make them gay? How about Heath, for starters? Maggie Gyllenhaal?
I also agree M that I don't see how Austin could possibly benefit from the bearding when even Jake isn't. And how does Jake being with Reese make up for the fact that Austin hasn't had a girlfriend in what, five years now?
All this talk about confidence makes me think again about something I sort of raised yesterday--whether some stars don't use the gay rumors as an excuse for why they think they're not getting work. I think Jake was in a big hurry to become a star, and yet it's hard for most film actors in their late 20s--too old to play the adolescent roles, too young for most leading man roles, which generally go to actors in their 30s and 40s. Plus, while I think he is good, I think he probably has a limited range.
But instead of acknowledging any shortcomings, the tough industry, etc., working hard, taking his time, it's possible Jake just said to himself, hey, the reason I'm not getting work are those pesky rumors.
Austin, on the other hand, seems to have no problem taking his time and working hard to get ahead. I have no doubt he's ambitious, but I think other things matter to him as well, and he has enough confidence in himself to plow ahead, without resorting to relationships and tabloids to get attention and (if lucky) work.
Austin wants to be known for himself and his work.

I fully agree with TR, Austin does not need to do a thing, since is not like people are primarily speculating about him, by in large no one cares. If Jake is with Reese he is just off the hook and free to do whatever. I, personally, don't see what is so difficult to understand here. I guess I have no understanding myself of the Austin has more integrity, Austin is the poor victim, etc. arguments. Austin is in for the ride 100%, wouldn't be happily going around with Jake biking then few days later Jake is papped patting Reese 's butt, if 1. felt hurt, 2. did not agree to the arrangement. Jake is an extrovert he has no problem sharing with everyone. And likes being in the center of attention, like the red carpet, because his energy comes from everything around him. It's ONE of ways he draws energy.
Austin is an introvert, he gets his energy from things(music, books, movies), internally or from a small group of people who are very close to him.
What you see on the red carpet is him becoming an extrovert. Watching him you can see that he is not exactly comfortable. The smile is super, the energy is up, it's not fake but a turned up version for the moment. But its almost like, in the back of his head he's just like he knows if he does this, he can get inside soon. And he gets shiny, subconscious reaction not being comfortable. When you look at party pictures he's a little more comfortable there than red carpet ones.
Not that he doesn't love having fans or the recognition of his work, he wants those things, really wants them. Its just the way it comes on the red carpet making him the center of attention,that makes him uncomfortable.
He doesn't do the red carpet except for his own projects, and that one ESPN party. And you could see that was more work than pleasure. Not that he doesn't like parties and doesn't go to them in HW. You're just not going to see him on the red carpet, unless he has to. He doesn't need to walk it for himself.

It's going to be a gorgeous day today and most of the week here, I think. I have a dogsitting gig later this week through the weekend, so I'll be limited to laptop access unless he has someone around I can latch onto. I've never tried at his house. But I look so forward to seeing Puddy & Nikki. I haven't seen them for a good while. I couldn't watch them several weeks ago when I was in D.C. and he said Puddy was really unhappy because he wasn't in his own home.
