I usually don't find ethnic, racist, sexist, or sexual orientation "jokes" funny in any way. They may sound innocent, funny ha-ha, but just think back to how these things originated and the pain minorities have gone through, and it's no laughing matter. Especially on a blog dedicated to ending discrimination and fighting for the rights of same sex couples. I'll try to scroll by in the future, but I can't guarantee I won't call it out.
Glad to hear the good news about New York and gay marriage. It's rather embarrassing about California, shows you that religion should keep its nose out of matters of state. Causes nothing but trouble every time - more misery has been caused in the name of religion than anything else. :(

Don't get me wrong, I love the pics of J&A, but so what if PR throws us a bone every now and then? There's still the none-to-subtle reminders of Reeking still going on, whether real or fake.
Plus, that's not the only thing - Jake isn't the same person I first noticed in BBMt, Heath is gone, so it's entirely different now, everything's changed. Even my hub, who cannot stand my J&A and BBM talk, will admit that with Heath's career about to take off, it's a terrible loss. But we'll see what happens when Jake's movies are released.

An outsider usually isn't given the same leeway (possibly very very close friends or family would be), because the ingroup shares the same painful history. It's a bittersweet humor.
The curly-haired comment was from I believe this same person, I could be wrong. I love you guys, but you are painlfully naive at times. Just because this person claims to be who they are, doesn't mean it's true - we have no idea who posts here, except for the people who have actually met.
This person judged the curly-haired assistant to be of Middle Eastern descent and homophobic because of their supposed religion, and influencing her client's career negatively because of it, all by looking at a picture, no more information than that. Half the world has dark curly hair. Then we had the Native American comment, the all Asians wear . . . comment. Seems more than a coincidence to me.
That is wrong, and I'll call bigotry when I see it. No need to sugar coat it, or worry about the bigot's feelings. Seems the lesser of the two.
I have to say I found the comments about the 'supposed' middle-eastern lady with 'nasty' (what was that about?) curly hair totally uncalled for. I feel sorry for whoever made them.

Santa Monica =/= Brentwood
PR worried: IHJ never posted the second set of street pics tagged biking in Brentwood, so they were never taken down. They are still in the eye candy section. Austin isn't even in the frame in the Brentwood pics. Both sets were PR approved so why should they care.
Last week some paps were taunting Jake as he was coming out from the clinic, there is a video of it on youtube. Paps have always followed Jake around in cars and on foot, I doubt that he is trying to "hide" anything, if he were he wouldn't draw attention to himself and drive or hang out of of their range as he has done before, methinks he is overacting. Kind of reminds me of when he and Reese "stole" that camera from the paps.
Reese is actually working, preparing for a role, no time for photo ops with Jake. Maybe a different pap agency are following them around. Flynet has been following Jake around lately, since Reese is preparing for a role it's probaly a totally different agency, matrix probably.

I find this interesting, :(, especially on the heels of your comment about some of us being naive. Just because I am nice to someone does not mean I think they are innocent. Sometimes how I choose to treat people publicly and what I think of them privately are two different things.
I don't think the studio that is involved with this film would appreciate Jake showing up to help her with her baseball skills. The pics fro m yesterday are with a trainer as it should be. Jake needs to get a film role now and work or pray that Nailed or Brothers promo starts soon so he will have something to do becasue it's obvious he is becoming more irrelevent.Remember when he was in a cafe with one of his PA's and the paps actually came into the place and took their pictures? Or when they were trailing him around through most of 2007 while he changed cars? They were trying to get Jake and Reese pics of them together but all they could get were them seperately driving in different directions, LOL!!!

The two last sets were down for what seems less than an hour and now they're back.
To me that sounds like a simple glitch in the website. Things like that happen sometimes and the provider usually restores the site to the last time a back-up was done which probably was just before the last two sets were uploaded.
If it was sets from somewhere in between and newer ones had still been there, then I might believe it was deliberate, but I don't think this was.
And I have to agree with Special, IHJ does one hell of a job getting us all those pics in HQ. Not many fandoms have a fansite that provides them with great quality pics and videos and in such a short time as well.

Well, the latest biking pics have stirred the soup, as it were. It is bringing out all sorts of defensive comments here and on WFT2. Like they really think we would change our opinion based on that.
I'm taking Ted's latest comments as hopeful. I still think Jake will come out. Now that Austin is back home for a long stretch, anything is possible. It's easy to play the game when they are apart, another story when Austin is where Jake can put his hands on his man.

I usually do this too, but not online. Too easy to be wrong with an impression of somebody because you've never really met them. I will usually be nice to people, figuring that I could be misreading them, even if I have private reservations. So I am actually much nicer online than I am in real life. In real life I will rip you a new one pretty quickly.

Sorry Meg but I disagree. Work is work even for a movie star and that does not include being tailgated by paps and opening their private life so that you can shred it to pieces. That's why it is easier to put on a facade, call the paps for staged photo ops, possibly with someone pretending, just like you.

The point I was trying to make (obviously very badly) was that with the wealth and priviledge that comes with being a successful film star there are some noticable down sides. One is public interest and intrusion into your life. If a famous actor wants to minimise this intrusion they can live away from HW and limit publcitiy to when they are promoting films. Okay, that might not be exactly what someone wants to do, but if I had $100 million in the bank I'm sure I could find somewhere nice enough, don't you.
Maybe having to deal with the pap intrusion is the price you have to pay if you want your picture on the cover of US Weekly once a month.

Me too. If people are wondering why a particular site does something, maybe they should ask at that site instead of speculating. I remember there being a question about IHJ pictures once before and someone asked Steph about it. She answered and was quite nice.

It is a simple truth, not a harsh statement.
The TMZ caption said Jake stopped the cop to ask about the paps, maybe, maybe not that's what happened. Interesting that the cop has his flashing lights on, and he is following behind Jake's car, just like at a routine stop, not like Jake saw the cop and stopped to chat.
We have a new hands-free cell phone law while driving (you can talk, but only via speakerphone, earplug or bluetooth), also no texting is allowed either. Could be Jake was texting or yakking on his phone while holding it to his ear and driving with one hand, and the cop spotted it and gave him a verbal warning (cops are mostly giving verbal/written warnings right now, a few people are getting tickets). Isn't it funny how you never see any celebs with a bluetooth hanging on their ear. Every other average Joe has one but never a celeb.
The cop stop could have been about anything.

Interesting thing is, I had my tooth pulled today also. I've been laying around watching tv, sleeping (rain all day) and computer. I guess if anything, it has slowed me down. It's been a whirlwind! Snack day all morning, then too full to really chow down on the taco salad lunch we had. Just some fantastic dips we had & I couldn't hold back. They were just awesome. A great walk, phone calls from my cousin, brother & his family, and several other friends, and best of all, time with my Mom, Dad & sister. And tomorrow I need to call back some others who I did not get to call tonight. Nothing beats getting calls from the Grand Poobahs of OMG, Wicked & Special! What a great distraction from the neverending production line of paperwork that crosses my desk anymore. Thanks to both of you, it was a real energy boost badly needed this afternoon!

Based on visual facial and hair characteristics, the person questioned the POSSIBILITY (not judged, there is a difference) of the PR person coming from a religious and cultural background of anti-homosexuality and applying the bias to Jake. Ever heard of profiling? Like it or not people can and do have cultural-based bias, however it is a clue, not a definite. The person brought it up as a possible origin to Jake's diehard bearding. True it might not be polite discussion based on one person's pic but look at all the Sunday Spotlights that have focussed on religious or cultural differences on gay issues, business and PR is no exception.
^^^Btw, theoretically, if it was true that the PR person is prejudiced against gays, who would you call a bigot, the person who brought up the possibility of cultural bias or the person who hates gays?
2. Native American comment? A comment from a virtual Jake saying
he wondered why he was finding (Atticus's) buried bones in his yard, if his yard was part of the dinosaur park in LA (can't remember the name) or if his house was on top of an Indian Sacred burial ground? That's bigoted? "Sacred Indian burial ground" is a bigoted phrase?
3. Someone tells an anecdote how their gf, who is Asian, wears socks with sandals and the gf says only Asians can wear it like that and look good? That's bigoted?
In the 3 comments/events above there was no anger, meanness or name-calling. Some people here are all too trigger-happy to blanketly label people bigots and scream "racist" at the mention of any culture or ethnicity, geeze.
Normally, comments like that one made by space oddity aren't even worthy of any kind of acknowledgement, but since this one is directed at our fellow OMG member & friend m, it needs to be said that it's a sign of pure boredom & unhappiness when one needs to resort to totally ridiculous remarks such as this.
It needs to be suggested that if nothing is happening to your liking in Jakedom at the moment, it might be more productive to seek a website focusing on a favorite hobby or if you just really need to vent, find a site where you can redirect that anger on someone who abuses animals or children.
That was just a really sad waste of energy.
It seems obvious that since OMG is a website for Austin/Jake fans, that this would bring about the need for an Orange Alert at this time.
Here's hoping today's a more positive kind of day. It's spring and we're at Thursday, on the downhill slide. Hopefully, Tom, you're on the slow mend and ecf & Special are going to feel better in the mouth today.
