Happy Birthday Jakey G!

Jake, for Austin's Birthday OMG shared some of the significances of 33, and for your birthday some more, just for you, with a bit more spiritual following Jewish and Buddhist traditions.

"The scriptural reference to female forms of Kuan-yin appears as early as Kumarajiva's recension of Chapter 25 in the Lotus Sutra [which states that] Kuan Yin assumes thirty-three appearances, of which seven are female. The number thirty-three has been associated with Kuan-yin ever since by both devout Chinese and Japanese Buddhists."

The story of "KUKURIPA, the maha-siddha" found in the book, Masters of Enchantment  by Keith Dowman, tells of "Gods of the Thirty-Three Sensual Heavens."

In Japan, one of two type of pilgrimages (junrei), is exemplified by the "Pilgrimage to the 33 Holy Places of Kannon in the Western Provinces"...circuits of series of temples or holy places. "The Kamakura Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage of Bando" in Eastern Japan circuits 33 temples Sacred to Kannon, ranging over Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures.

The name of Sanjusangendo Temple in Japan refers to the "33 bays" between the pillars of the long building, which houses 1001 statues of the 1000-armed Kannon Buddhist Goddess, Quan Yin.

According to the Lotus Sutra, Kannon Bodhisattva (Avilokateshvara) has 33 transformations in order to perform his task of salvation.

One legend says that 33 "Arhats" spread Buddhism.

The period of time between the passing of His Holiness, the Sixteenth Karmapa of the Karma Kagyu lineage, until the enthronement of the (current) Seventeenth - a period prophesied by the Fifth Karmapa to be a dark time for Buddhist Dharma - spanned 33 years.

Required to become a Tibetan lama: solitary retreat of at least 3 years, 3 months, 3 days.

The Kabbalistic/Hebrew significance of the number 33: The number 33 signifies "entry into the mystery" or "the secret levels of creation."

Lag B'Omer occurs thirty-three days after the start of Passover. Its name comes from the Hebrew letters lamed and gimmel, which together equal 33, according to gematriah in the Hebrew numerical system. Lag B'Omer is the thirty-third day of the omer count. It is this day that most Jewish people recognize as the end of the mourning period of the Omer. [Because, on the 33rd day of the Omer, Rabbi Akiva's students stopped dying, and he started to reveal the light of the Torah to new students. Also on the 33rd day of the Omer, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the author of the central work of Kabbalah called the Zohar, died. His death is a celebration because on the day of his death he revealed the light of the Torah to his students.]

The "Tree of the Sephiroth" of the Kabbalah has 33 elements, including the whole of it and its constituent parts.

33 is associated with the word, gal, which was used in Psalms in the manner of "asking God to reveal the secrets of the Torah." Also, it suggests "the end of suffering."

And your namesake, Jacob, had 33 children.

Jake we wish you a path that will lead you to a life filled with truth, love and happiness.

Happy 33rd Birthday Jake!!

Nice pictures, although I got totally lost the way, way back. LOL!

I already wished my happy happy. Boy, some of those pictures to see them today.....hard to believe it's the same guy, isn't it?

My favorite childhood picture is the one of him w/ his dad, with those little hands touching the camera. Sweetest little tyke you ever did see and to know the heartache, struggles, and trials that laid ahead of him, the changes and evolutions which were to come.

I wish freedom for him. Early-mid 30's are, I think, the pinnacle years of one's life. They are the prime, the glowingest, the best years of a person's life.

Wow, I had no idea the number 33 was so significant. Maybe this is the year Jake will finally come out. And Austin too, as a result.

Anyway, best wishes to Jake, and his love Austin, for a wonderful birthday and a truly terrific year to follow for both of them.

My favorite pic is that boy in the bathtub. Love the expression on his face which we still see peaking through despite his being an adult.

PG, thanks for the Xmas card. As ususal, I never got off my ass to do a single card. I did see this on enty lawyer today, and since you follow them, am sharing. "this boy bander from an A++ list group has been seeing a therapist in order to deal with his depression and has been prescribed meds that have been affecting his mood to the point where he is happy one second and crying the next. Apparently his A list celebrity friend f**ks with his head a lot and will one day spend time with the boy bander and everything is great and the next day will be running around having sex with women.

Someone from One Direction" Sad, really.

From USA TODAY

Brian Boitano Announces He's Gay Before Trip to Sochi

Brian Boitano, the 1988 Olympic figure skating gold medalist who was named to the official U.S. delegation to the 2014 Sochi Olympics, announced today that he is gay.

"I am many things: a son, a brother, and uncle, a friend, an athlete, a cook, an author, and being gay is just one part of who I am," Boitano said in a statement.

COLUMN: Obama's selection of King on target

"First and foremost I am an American athlete and I am proud to live in a country that encourages diversity, openness and tolerance. As an athlete, I hope we can remain focused on the Olympic spirit which celebrates achievement in sport by peoples of all nations."

Boitano's announcement comes two days after he was named by President Obama to the opening ceremony delegation that also includes Billie Jean King, the tennis legend who is openly gay. Boitano, 50, declined to discuss his sexuality in an interview for the book Inside Edge in 1995.

Boitano says he's proud to be chosen to represent the American delegation as a former Olympic athlete, but "I have always reserved my private life for my family and friends and will continue to do so."

Two-time U.S. ice hockey Olympic medalist Caitlin Cahow, who also is openly gay, was named to the closing ceremony delegation.

Their presence in the delegations has been viewed as a strong message from Obama against Russia's anti-gay propaganda law.

Wow, cheers for Brian Boitano!!! I had a crush on him during the Olympics; I can still see the triumphant smile on his face during the finishing moment of his winning skating routine.

I love President Obama's message. I'm so proud of our leader; what a great idea. May God keep our delegation safe during the Olympics and let them speak a positive message, quiet and dignified, not one of militancy.

Someone from One Direction"

I actually think that is either made up completely because Modest Management has been planting several break up/trouble in paradise rumors, hoping people will think it's about Harry and Louis. The real OTP in One Direction. Those two are more in love than ever though.

One big example: Harry's father was asked recently what was his favorite song on their latest album, Midnight Memories. And, instead of saying, "Happily," which was the song his son wrote, he responded with, "Strong." The song that Louis wrote. And, which is so obviously written about Harry.

I think that's great what President Obama is doing too. Don't boycott. Participate and show what America represents.

I forgot to add who I think the story might be about, if it's true at all. And, that is what they call Ziam in the fandom. The pairing of Zayn and Liam. Many fans think that Zayn's so-called engagement with Perrie Edwards of Little Mix is fake. And, that Liam and Zayn have a thing for each other. They do flirt with each other a lot. So it's possible.

I'm a day late, but Happy Birthday, Jake. Wish he would come out with his hunky boyfriend? Maybe Louis and Harry can lead the way for them in the next year or so. The younger generation rules.

In real life Larry yes. In show business won't happen. Nobody willing to risk a buck :-)

I don't think Louis and Harry are coming out tomorrow. But, no way do I believe that if they survive the pressures of meteoric fame and the contractual obligations of public appearance clauses that they will live their lives in the closet like Jake and Austin have.

Harry has openly battled the closet from the very beginning and Louis is not too far behind him in his rebellious actions. The paps in London the other day said that Harry walked in the front door of the hotel at 2:30 a.m. where his latest PR hookup was staying and then promptly walked out the back door and left. These are the kind of things that set them apart from a lot of artists who actually seem to enjoy fooling the public.

Just my opinion though. But, I do think there's something different about these two and has been from the very beginning.

Today a federal judge ruled that Utah’s ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional, writing in his opinion that it “perpetuates inequality". More importantly, Utah, of all places, has the first case to overturn a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Translation: Supreme Court bound.
