Almost off the list

Jake's End of Watch co-star was not too happy with Jakey last year.

"I know! I was so pissed at Jake, let me tell you, I texted him and said, 'You’re abandoning me, and I’m never going to forgive you!' "

And what pissed her off?  Jake dropping out of "Into the Woods."

Jake had signed on to share prince duties with Chris Pine. Jake supposed was to be Rapunzel’s suitor while Pine pines Cinderella.  It was a musical and more importantly Sondheim, a favorite of Jake's, so him pulling out of the Rob Marshall big screen adaptation was a bit of a shocker.  You can see why she felt abandoned.

And, after awhile, Anna finally cooled her temper. She said, "And then I saw the trailer to Nightcrawler and texted him again and said, 'Wow, you inspire me every day.' ”

The jury's still out if Jake really pulled out of "Into the Woods" to do Nightcrawler, or if there was some other reason, but at least he's back on the good list with Anne.

Out of The Woods and Up a Mountain?

From the chatter on Twitter it looks like Jake is heading out of The Woods and onto a couple of different projects.

So why no Woods?  Some outlets are saying it was a scheduling conflict with Jake's other project Nightcrawler

But how does that work if he's one of the co-producers?

Why would Jake to leave a project that is something he's always wanted to do (a musical) by one of his favorite Broadway composers (Steven Sondheim)?

With reports linking Jake with the movie Everest, the true life story of three teams ascent and drama while climbing Mt. Everest, could it be that the mountain moved him?

Everest is "based on the 1996 disastrous expedition to scale Mount Everest. Three different expeditions were hit by a sudden blinding storm and by the time it was all over, eight climbers died. The tale was first made famous by Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, his first-person account of being among the lucky ones to make it back down the mountain."

Deadline is saying Jake is talks along with Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, and Jason Clarke and that shooting will start in November.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting as if Jake is confirmed to play Scott Fischer, the leader of another expedition team and that shooting will start to shoot in October in Iceland.

It's an interesting choice if he does take it.  Great story indeed. And Jake's a pro at digging snow caves in Iceland.  But does it mean that the adventure with Bear really did cure Jake of his fear of heights?

But which came first?

Jake leaving The Woods?  Or Jake signing on to climb the mountain?

And is Everest or Nightcrawler the real reason that Jake walked away? Or there be some other tall or small reasons why?

Time will tell.

Now or Later

A little bit of a detour from the average Friday...

So why now?

If it's a Disney thing, why now? Later  maybe. But before production even starts?  Isn't that kind of a waste?

And why would you faux it up and alienate a large part of your audience when studios are clamoring for every ticket buyer they can get ?  Especially when it is part of a guaranteed audience who liked the original Broadway musical?

Why would an openly gay director make one of his stars hide?

Woods is different than PoP.  PoP was designed as a tent pole franchise to sell product and had a much younger target audience.  Like 6-16.  Who are musicals made for?  Usually older than 6 let's say.

Now could it be that this is more for something coming out, let's say in about 8 weeks?  A big movie that really hasn't had much publicity yet? One that has a lead star running " 'round the county" trying to deny something with such fervor.

Could it be that they don't want any speculation about any other member of the cast less it draw attention to them?

Hmmmm.....

And because it wouldn't be Friday.....

You're welcome.

Grinding to a Halt

Looks like Jake is no longer attached to Mississippi Grind.

According to Indie Wire,  Ryan Reynolds is stepping into the role that was originally Jake's,  and the timetable for shooting it has now been pushed back from this month until next year.

It would appear he's replacing the originally attached Jake Gyllenhaal, in the story that centers on a down-on-his-luck gambler facing crushing debt, who teams up with a gambling addict (Reynolds), in an attempt to change his luck. The two then set off on a road trip through the South with visions of winning back what has been lost. And certainly in Fleck and Boden's hands, the end result will be something even more evocative than that logline. It's an interest cast with more to come, but there's plenty of time, as the movie doesn't even start filming until next year.

It looks like Jake will have plenty of time to find his inner prince-essence over the next couple of months, and work with some vocal coaches to fine tune his singing.  Jake's co-star James Cordon (The Baker in Into the Woods) also is in New York and was spotted in the private club SoHo House, which Jake has frequented both in LA and NY in the past.

With Prisoners coming out this fall,  there might be some plane hopping and crossing the pond a bit while he begins filming Into the Woods.
Speaking of Prisoners a new trailer with a lot more Detective Loki.  Check it out.

More Gathering Into the Woods

The cast list grows for "Into the Woods" with the addition of Jack(as in Beanstalk) and Cinderella.

Deadline is reporting that Daniel Huttlestone, who starred as Gavroche in the recent film of "Les Misérables," is in talks to join the cast of the "Into the Woods" as Jack.

And Cinderella? Anna Kendrick.

Not a far fetch choice. Anna has the singing chops for the musical. For her role as "Dinah" in "High Society" on Broadway, she was nominated for a Tony Award (second youngest ever), a Drama Desk Award, and a Fany Award (best actress featured in a musical). She recently show off her singing in the movie Pitch Perfect and has had a hit on the Billboard and Itunes charts with the song Cups.

And of course it would make it easy if Cinderella already knew that Prince in real life really wasn't looking for a pretty pretty Princess but more of a Prince of a guy.

Or as Cinderella from the Real Housewives of Disney put it.

"Here's some good advice, never marry a guy who's really into shoes."

"Into the Woods" is filling up an all-star cast with Previous asting reports indicate that Emily Blunt may play the Baker's Wife, with Tony Award winner James Corden (One Man, Two Guvnors)as the Baker. Meryl Streep will play the Witch, Johnny Depp is the Wolf . Tracey Ullman was recently reported to be in talks to play Jack's Mother. Chris Pine, is Jake's brother and fellow prince and Tony Award winner Christine Baranski is also in negotiations  possibly as Prince Jake's future mother in law. She was part of a reading of the screenplay adaptation last fall, where she played Cinderella's Stepmother.

"Into the Woods" starts production in London in September with Opening Day being Christmas Day 2014.

And it will be a very musical Christmas in 2014, because not only is "Into The Woods" scheduled to open, but the collaboration of Jay-Z and Will Smith's remake of the musical Annie will open that day too.

The Actor now know as Prince

The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive that Tracey Ullman is in negotiations to join the growing cast of Into the Woods, as the mother of Jack the Giant Killer.

What does that have to with Jake?  It's someone else on the negotiation list? Well according to the article it seems like there are no more negotiations for Jake.  It looks like he is a done deal.  He  has been crowned a (Disney) prince.

"Streep is playing a witch and Depp is taking on a variation of the fairy tale wolf. Gyllenhaal and Pine play princes to Cinderella and Rapunzel."

Handsome

Knows the suit can make the man

Cuts a dashing figure

Been a Prince for Disney before

And had practice escorting a princess who broke out in song.

Cinderella huh.

It might be a house divided some might be very excited in a small way, but one might prefer it has been Tink in a big way.

Then again if the shoe fits.

Go! Into The Woods

While some debate Jake being in California, it looks like OMG was right on the money,  and know there might be another reason to add to the list of why he's there.

News came today from The Hollywood Reporter that Jake and fellow actor Chris Pine are getting closer to being named for the role of the two princes in Disney's film adaptation of Stephen Sondehim's award winning musical

And Disney is not holding back in bringing this musical to the big screen. musical is getting best of the best for the film adaptation with bringing back James Lapine, the original book writer, who is reworking the script for the screenplay, while Sondheim has also written new material for the film, including "Rainbows", a duet between The Baker and his Wife, as well as a new song for Meryl Streep as 'The Witch'.

Joining Streep is Johnny Depp who is playing the hungry and sexy Wolf and Tony Award winner James Corden playing the role of The Baker.

The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", and "Cinderella", as well as several others. The musical is tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, and their interaction with a Witch and her curse on them. The musical debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Into the Woods won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical (Joanna Gleason), in a year dominated by The Phantom of the Opera.

Jake and Chris would play the roles of Cinderella and Rapunzel's princes, a pair of competitive, arrogant men in search of true love.

And while both are dashing and some have said that Rapunzel's Flynn in Tangled (Disney's animated version of Rapunzel) reminds them of Jake, this is a perfect role for Jake for other reasons:

He loves musicals

He's a huge Stephen Sondheim fan.

And Jake's performed In The Woods before - (but not as a prince)

"We just did 'Into the Woods' at the family reunion. Peter [Sarsgaard] played the wolf, and I played Little Red Riding Hood. It's always really intense but really moving. . . . We all cry at the end. When we sang that number, 'No One Is Alone,' it really got me. 'Cause Peter has a beautiful voice -- I don't know if you know that about him."    Source

Damn the Yankees Jake, Go Into The Woods.
