Casting Call

UPDATE (4:06 PM EST) Buddy TV has an exclusive interview with Austin about OTH.
Check it out: Buddy TV - Austin

With Austin appearing more often on the small screen, why not look at other shows that he might want to do. One of the hottest new shows on American TV is Mad Men, the story of ad men on Madison Ave in the 1960's. And it seems like something Austin might be a good look and fit for. And he does have a thing for retro and vintage.

"The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper, the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values."

Could you see Austin as the rising young protege? Think he would get into trying to get into the head of the male culture of the 1960's and their attitudes toward women and society as a stretch. The research alone would be fun, with all the old shows, films, commercials. Heck he would do the show just for the wardrobe alone. Maybe it would be his chance to wear those 60's Italian suits and that he talked about in his interview with Men's Health.

But if he needs to get his Mad Men or vintage mid century Hollywood look on off screen he doesn't need to look any further than L.A. vintage clothing store Everything's Jake, which carries vintage suits, trousers, and sport coats from the 1940s through the early '60s, along with all the proper accessories that any well-turned-out gentleman needs. Their vintage stock is strictly the best. And with a name like that can you really go wrong.

Of course it could get confusing on the Christmas list:

I want:

Everything Jake

or is it

Everything's Jake?

Think that one would be if you were on Santa's naughty list and one for his nice. He who has the hat decides it would seem. ; )

Nothing could be finer

... than to be in Carolina.

One Tree Hill films at Screen Gems Studio in Wilmington North Carolina. Austin is familiar with the area because he filmed the television show Surface there.

This was Austin the last time he was in Wilmington. You think he'll bring back the look for this time?

Granted he's gotta throw a shirt on for a few scenes here and there.

Or will he stick to the high and mighty hair in an homage to David Lynch now that he's to play a indie film producer? Although he may need a little more product to get the full Lynchian look.

Austin will be starting in episode 8 ( In October) and will be in 10 episodes this season as a indie producer named Julien. (Thanks Spooky!)

OTH averages about 21 episodes per season, so it is a good assumption that Austin will become a major part of the story line with Lucas and Peyton for season 6 and will be part of the series sweeps in November February and May.

Starmaking

Austin filming Prayers for Bobby, it great news, and it has been too long since we have seen him in front of a camera. While we think he not working enough, he is working more than the majority of actors in Hollywood who are out there trying to get parts. But that's not the focus here, its the parts he's taking that are interesting. And not just for the obvious this time.

Not worried about small screen or large he seems to bounce back and forth, just looking for projects that interest him, and more from the artistic perspective as an actor than for career building momentum. After the title lead in a series he has no problem picking up small guest roles, and supporting acting roles rather than waiting on more lead role offers. Seems that their is no ego or sense of entitlement to his acting. Yes he starred in a movie that made well over 500 million, and had a budget of more than entire budget of Lifetime Television but he has no problem playing a second, third or forth support role in a Lifetime movie. He doesn't seem to throw what he did for work, he just let's the performance he's done speak for themselves.

Bottom line: Austin doesn't seem to be chasing fame, but just wanting to act. Acting in what he likes more than anything else.

Could be completely wrong and maybe he is taking the only parts being offered to him. Tend not to think so but what do you think?

King Rocker

Looks like Austin is playing the bad boy on the small and large screen. The word is that Noah will be doing more than a little editing with Julie on tonight's FNL (9:00 PM EST), and the description of The Informers' Martin makes him quite the naughty fella as well. " Who better to mold your role as a 80's bad boy after than Billy Idol.

Austin has has the hair - sorry there are no pictures of the blonde version yet, the sharp features, and the 80's long lean body . The casting - point on. It is now about the execution. The best way to describe Billy is pure sex with a snarl poured into leather pants and let loose. Pure hedonism. Take what you want and make no apologies. Totally 80's indeed. It will be interesting to see Austin tap that part of himself. A departure from the Austin we see, but sure that at least one person has seen this side of him. ; )

Noah's Arc

The wait has been more than 40 days and 40 nights but there is a dare to say a rainbow breaking through the storm clouds.

Austin will debut tonight on Friday Night Lights as a Julie's teacher,Noah.

It looks like he will be at Dillon High for 5 episodes, but in television that equation means he will be in for sweeps in November followed by FNL repeats and then be back for two episodes in January. So get a little now and save a little for later to start the new year off right. And Noah may return with another arc later.

New Austin Interview! (Thanks Pure!)

But it sounds like we were on the money with some of our earlier predictions here at OMG. And musical choices. ; )

Gooberballs - Jake at Letterman 10-15

Jake was far from awkward, his favorite word from the last time, this visit and brought a new word to share. Gooberballs.

To find out the origin of Gooberballs, check out Jake's visit with Dave.

On the way out something strange happened it appears that Jake is shrinking. Are his legs getting shorter or did he just grab the wrong pair of black jeans? Perhaps a pair with a longer inseam than he normally wears? Oh they look all the same when you are throwing stuff in the bag.

Does this look like your high school guidance counselor? Mine neither. What school has guidance counselors that look like this? Oh...high schools on TV.

Friday Night Lights Speculation and Spoilers

Chatter and speculation leans to Austin playing a science teacher/guidance counselor, named Glenn Reed. The sides say that Glenn Reed is in his 30's, nice looking, and a little uptight. He appears in episode 2, and stays through episode 6, which fits the arc the The Statesman reported.

Doubled up

Seems like the summer vacation of not being photographed is over and Jake is back in LA and backed to being snapped again. Jake seen here leaving one of his favorite spots - Joan's on Third, narrowly missing meeting Kiki as the she arrived for lunch.

With Austin playing a teacher on Friday Night Lights this fall, no wonder why Jake doesn't mind school vacation over.

Is he trying to recreate his cover shot as a subliminal message to buy this month's Interview magazine ?
