Doubled up

Seems like the summer vacation of not being photographed is over and Jake is back in LA and backed to being snapped again. Jake seen here leaving one of his favorite spots - Joan's on Third, narrowly missing meeting Kiki as the she arrived for lunch.

With Austin playing a teacher on Friday Night Lights this fall, no wonder why Jake doesn't mind school vacation over.

Is he trying to recreate his cover shot as a subliminal message to buy this month's Interview magazine ?

I'm cross-posting from WFT:

That's great news about Austin and Friday Night Lights. I've never watched it but it has been receiving great reviews and buzz.

Check out the wikipedia article

"Critical Reception
The series has met with overwhelming critical acclaim from the very beginning with Virginia Heffernan of the New York Times saying "this new drama about high school football could be great — and not just television great, but great in the way of a poem or painting..."[41] a sentiment that was echoed by the Washington post who called the pilot "[e]xtraordinary in just about every conceivable way."[42] Positive reviews also came in from USA Today[43], the San Francisco Chronicle[44], the Arizona Republic[45], and the Boston Globe[46].

Praise for the pilot has even come from international sources with The Guardian's Jonathan Bernstien calling the pilot "accomplished and engaging" and the Metro awarding it 4 out of 5 stars.[47].

Young members of the Friday Night Lights castPraise for the show has continued throughout its inaugural season with many online journalists using the frequency of their medium to heap regular praise on the show. Matt Roush of TV Guide has dedicated several of his “Roush Dispatch” columns to the show calling the last episodes of season one “terrifically entertaining” [48] while Zap2it.com's "TVGal" has gone so far as to ask her readers to "promise to watch [the last 4 episodes of] Friday Night Lights". [49]. Even gossip columnists have praised the show with Kristin of Eonline saying she "love[s] the bejeezus out of [the show]" [50] and TV Guide's Michael Ausiello calling the season one finale "predictably flawless" [51].

The show has nonetheless received negative reviews, particularly from the Los Angeles Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer [52]and Texas Monthly magazine[53]."

I keep missing Austin posts and arriving late on new Jake posts :) It's great to see Austin getting lots of new work, but I'm also very touched by the JfC ad campaign that's been running on HBO - shades of the old Variety ad campaign.

((ag))

Antony is a huge favourite of mine - wonder when his next oeuvre will appear?

More about Friday Night Lights :
(from Wikipedia)

"Friday Night Lights is filmed in and around Austin, Texas and is unusual in its use of actual locations as opposed to prefabricated stage sets. The show uses real locations in and around Austin exclusively and has no sound stage where filming is done. This, along with the production team using hundreds of locals as extras, gives the series a uniquely authentic look."

Sigh. Jake is again making things difficult for the anti-beardy-beard brigade. It seems we really have our work cut out for us this time!.

This story was brought to my mind by a post at WFT. I shared it there and I felt compelled to share it here. It is completely OT and a downer. Sorry.

Your story made me think about a story my aunt told me that I have not thought about in years. My aunt was a racist. There is no other way to put it. She was driving in Philly at night in a not-so-bad neighborhood and saw a naked, bleeding African-American boy running away from a swarm of approximately 20+ white kids. She stopped at a stop sign, reached back, and opened the door to her back seat. The African-American kid climbed in. The white kids surrounded the car and rocked it. My aunt tried to lock the doors but the white kids managed to pull the African-American kid out and drag him off. My aunt drove home and called the cops (this was before the days of cell phones), who went to the neighborhood but found no trace of either the African-American kid or the white kids. At least that's what they told her. This experience changed my aunt forever. She had not liked African-Americans her whole life, but had never really thought about the level of hatred that some people had for them. Seeing that made her unable to continue to hold onto her dislike as she had before. Although she remained uncomfortable around people who were different from her, she definitely became more tolerant. I think stories of hate need to be told so everyone can truly understand the experiences of other people. My aunt could never know what it was like to be black but she could see the impact of blackness on this particular kid, just as Dany could see the impact of gayness on the Walkman Boy.

Thanks for the Interview link, Special! The exerpt (sp?) was great. I love that Jake and David were so at ease with each other. I love that Jake talked about going to Japan as a kid and how much he knows about cinematography. I think this is going to be an excellent interview!

Anonymous said...

Btw, there is also an audio interview below the main interview piece.

Anonymous said...

Hi tbs, I agree it is a nice interview. The audio makes it even more clear how Jake and Fincher are at ease with each other. Jake in mud ... sure any time ;-)!

Anyone noticed the sweather Jake is wearing in the cover shot looks like the kind of stuff Austin could have in his wardrobe...

Wicked, I think it is time we do something about that beard, just getting too long.

Work is so insane these days and each time I come here there's still another brand new post! Don't you guys ever take a rest?

Thanks wicked for the title of that great song and to all of you for these info and great links. I'll do my best to keep up to speed (sigh). C'est la vie. :)

The beard (the beardy-beard beard, I mean) is way too bunchy in this pic. Boys, don't do bunchy if scruff will suffice. Better still, shave :)

Austin suits French navy better than Jake, it's a tough colour to wear. I wasn't fashion police, honest :)

Anonymous said...

Guess I stand alone on this one, but I LOVE JAKE'S BEARD!! And I ain't talking 'bout Reese, neither!

Anonymous said...

Scylla, I think Jake works the navy color very well here. And I agree with you Me, LOVE the scruff! He does know how to work it like no other. ;)

People - right on top of things with this in today's Caught in the Act.
(hmmm today is Thursday and this happened when?)

"It was like two exes passing in the daylight: Kirsten Dunst, wearing a little black sundress and sunglasses as she sat down for lunch with a male companion at Joan's on Third in Los Angeles – not long after former beau Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted leaving the gourmet market with a coffee to go. "

Anonymous said...

Fair enough, tbs - I'm falling into the comparison trap :) It looks much nicer in the other pics.

Yes, Kirsten has left us - her English flame didn't wipe the surfaces or take the rubbish out, evidently :)

Anonymous said...

The pictures were on the net yesterday so it doesn't surprise me that People mentioned it.

frenchy said...

OMG's song journal is already up! Thank you!

On the beardy front, I hope Wolfman Jake is not making a come-back. :(

Anonymous said...

Kirsten's just been on the front of the UK edition of Company. Just flicked through it and she said she would "never again date an actor." She then listed a lot of people she would date: director, artist, writer blah, blah but never an actor. Wow that's a big f-you to Jake.

Anonymous said...

That's good news for actors! LOL

Another vote here for scruffy Jake!

Me/tbs: maybe we can create de pro-beardy-beard brigade (for facial hair only) ;)

TR Knight talking about this past year.

..."T.R. Knight says his life has been better since he came out to PEOPLE last October."

"Asked what he thinks about actors who do not come out of the closet, Knight said, "Everyone has their own path. You just have to respect that... It don't think it's right to force that. It's impossible to know. There's a lot of soul searching you have to do."

TR -I've Learned a Lot - People.com

Pure, YES!! ;)

Kirsten and her continuous comments about not dating actors is rather immature, Whatever happened between her and Jake doesn't deserve her constant rehashing in the press. Talk about sour grapes. Jake has always been respectful and never bad mouthed her in interviews.

Scruffy Jake - yes!

A little Woolie - yeah

Sad Wolfie - no

Ok just for fun here: I wonder if Austin prefers beardy or non-beardy. I remember the clean-shaven Jake of Lakers I, bed-head and coffee pics...

Go ahead now, blow my little rosy bubble and list all the hairy Jaustin pics. :D

I only remember Casanova premiere and Lakers II ... Jake was also clean shaven in the biking pics with Austin and the bookstore pics.
Lakers III, it was actually Austin who had the scruff.
