Yankee slugger Jason Giambi wears a gold lamé, tiger-stripe thong under his uniform when he wants to break out of a slump - and he shares it with hitless teammates who want to get back on track.
"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," he tells Portfolio.com. Over the years, the 37-year-old All-Star has left the "golden thong" in the lockers of slumping teammates Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Robin Ventura and Robinson Cano.
"All of them wore it and got hits," he reports. "The thong works every time."

Nooo! That lawsuit is a bad idea. There is very little chance that the current Supreme Court would find DOMA unconstitutional, and that is where this case is utltimately going to end up. And if they do lose this case, they are going to be stuck with a very bad decision for years to come.
People fighting for gay marriage have been deliberately avoiding bringing suits on U.S., rather than state, constitutional grounds for this very reason.
Great, after Ted's kind of bitter sounding comment, who knows what we'll see from Reeke in retaliation. Reeke at a Baskin Robbins and Reese with a big dill pickle in her hand?
I don't know about this comment from Ted. The first time I read it, it sounded bitter. Then after reading it again, it made me realize how I am sure to have sounded at times and makes me all kinds of ashamed for some of the harsh stuff I've said about the guy. Not about behavioral incidents, but just other things that were personally attacking. It's not pretty. I don't get Ted's comment. What's he saying about guys who do musicals, for cryin' out loud? It doesn't make any kind of sense.
I echo some of the sentiments said this morning on WFT2 and maybe Ted needs to take a lil' vacation from Tooth Tile if he can't say anything of worthwhile credence or relay a new TT story. Just let it play out if there's nothing new to add. Blurbs like this one about musicals look bad on Ted. He's always been about clever wordplay; now it almost sounds personal. As a journalist, Ted, you're supposed to remain "removed" from your subject.

I think Ted is just being very tongue-in-cheek and using the musical to get in some digs at the cement closet. I'm surprised he didn't mention Tab Hunter, but I guess that would have been going too far. Musicals are widely seen as being of interest to mainly women and gay men, and I would say a majority of the men involved in musical theater are gay, from the writers on down. I also think that the young guys who are the target audience of PoP are also the most likely group to view musicals as "gay".
I thought Ted was pretty funny today, especially the wedding planner dig.

I did not read Ted's comments as negative to musicals. I try to avoid sterotypes, but let's face it, many gay guys like musicals, way more than straight guys do. And, most male Broadway actors, singers, dancers are gay. We could probably even find some statistics to back that up since I think they are way more out than Hollywood actors.

Sorry Tom, on this I have to disagree. Hayden is playing the hardest. Why he's bearded the longest, and upped it with the engagement to Rachel Bilson. And if he is the BV, sounds like he promised to marry his bf in Canada, then dumped him and got engaged to Bilson.

I don't think it takes any strength at all. I don't think he's being stared down by anyone. If Disney cared at all about Ted, they wouldn't have gotten involved with Jake in the first place. I'm with Wicked and Clarity; if Ted wants to show some strength he should do something that is actually risky. Put up or shut up Ted.

I think I agree with you on that one, Special. That would be why. And I didn't feel that as strongly until these past couple of weeks. But several things have me feeling that way now. For one, those pictures from couple of days ago, the medical building & the "solo" coffee. Closely cropped like they were (I can't remember the blogger name who pointed it all out, but you know who you are!).
I don't know a whole lot about Hayden Christensen. All I know about him is that he used to be on the HW blogs alot about a year ago. And back then, I didn't know what movies he was in or TV show he was on. I don't think he's near as well known as Jake. Is it pretty well known that Hayden C is gay?

I still haven't warmed up to Ted's comments yet. I think if Jake hadn't calmed down these past 4 weeks or so (with the exception of VF party, but even that wasn't soooo over the top for him), I would be very inclined to like Ted's comments. But I'm feeling a little Jakefriendly lately.

But I agree with Special about Hayden, and I have to point out that while Wenty has denied being gay, as far as I know he hasn't bearded, and he certainly didn't run and do it when the rumors about him and what's his name were rampant.
Regarding Ted, I doubt E! would allow Ted to out Jake even if he had a smoking gun.
Naw, after how many years now, if Ted hasn't done it by now, doubt he'd be doing it soon. There are several shots of him in the water attempting to surf. Everybody is only ever posting the shots of him learning the moves on the sand and carrying the board, because he looks really good in those pics.
In the ones surfing, he's just trying to surf, falling, trying again. In most of them you can only see his head or upper body at best, so not many people care to post them.
There are shots of him playing basketball with Chris. Sometimes it's one-on-one, so what? Is Jake now obligated to always bring enough friends with him to build two teams or he is not allowed to play at all?
Believe it or not, there are actually pap vids of him and Chris playing basketball.
Once again mostly the shots of him standing and holding the ball are posted, because you can see his arm muscles the best and that's what people are more interested in.

I for one don't really care who he is but do think it's a shame he's hiding, and that once out, society in general might not (probably won't) accept him in hetero roles. Isn't Fair, Leo may have been bearding for years, but Jake has made his bearding very high profile. We never see Leo on the cover of rag mags, nevermind on the cover with one of his girlfriends. We occasionally get some pap pics of Leo and GF and occasionally a few pics of Leo. Leo doesn't overload us with almost weekly pics of him and his GF going for coffee/shopping/exercising. Compare the amount of pap pics of Leo in 2008 to the amount of Reeke pics and rag mag photo spreads in 2008 and tell me who had the most? Reeke for sure had at least 5 times more than Leo.
Maybe but that change nothing, the guy lies all the same and plays the game!
Leo hasn't been high profile dating two supermodels? The ultimate straight man's fantasy making him by associate a straight man.
But he was smart, he had his posse with him all the time, and in that group were the men he was or is dating.
One thing I was found amazing about Leo. He had in his contract making Titanic, to include having Toby flown down on a regular basis on the studios dime.
I think that Reeke is the highest profile bearding relationship after TomKat. Jake is the worst offender after Tom C. The other bearding couples are not as publicise with so insistent and detailed weekly info plants and photo ops. The third could be Zac and Vanessa.

One big reason is that Jake wouldn't be in a position to grab for the A-list without BBM and all the gay fans who helped make that movie a hit and made up a large part of his fanbase. To then turn around and beard is a huge slap to the gay community in a way that no one else's bearding is. And I know it's stupid to care what some actor does, but I take it personally.
Another reason is that Jake is from a younger generation than people like Leo, Geroge and Wenty. I think times have changed enough that people starting out there careers now have more freedom to be out and still have a career than actors did 10 years ago.

Clearly Jake doesn't want to be the guy who "changed things".
If I came off as making excuses as to why others beard, I didn't mean to. I think it is wrong when anyone does it. My main point was to say why I don't personally care as much about what others do. I really don't understand why someone like Leo continues to do it, except maybe habit and it's become a security blanket of sorts, and there's no adult willing to yank it away from him. Another reason why seeing a new generation do it is troubling.
I'll also add that the over-the-top nature of Jake's bearding is adding insult to injury, especially all those magazine covers "proclaiming" his heterosexuality.
Jake didn't have to change things and come out. All he had to do was not beard. Plenty of other people don't beard. K. Reeves for one, and he's had a successful career despite having a very limited range as an actor.

I agree. Totally. Do you know how irritated I get every stinkin' time I see Tom Cruise holding onto Katie Holmes' elbow like she's some kind of stinkin' trophy of his? Like she has no mind or will of her own? And she doesn't! She doesn't as long as she lets that guy use her like some kind of Barbie doll. I'll never forget that memory of Tom jumping up & down on his couch like a fool, trying to pretend like he was head over heels in love. Oh brother, I had a type-o. A time out, that should say, not an. Why in the heck did I do that.
I suppose one of the things that irritates the heck out of me about Jake's bearding, besides the dishonesty to himself, is when he seems to take the enjoyment in it. A la Tom Cruise, the hooked elbow, shoulders back, blonde hetero trophy on his arm, like that's the billboard for everything that says "a man". The fact that he's doing it with an A-list Oscar winner says that there were ulterior side benefits/perks which got him off, like tabloid publicity and attention. I don't know if he would've gotten into the VF party this year on his own or not, without her. That kind of stuff does irritate me.
Ha! And don't even get me started on what the bearding/photo ops with Reese's kids says about his priorities with his own relationship and his own kid(s) if indeed there is such.

That makes no sense lurker. The closet case remark was directed at someone who seems to be defending the bearding. As far as I know the people who identify as gay or bi here are not in the closet, and certainly not the ones who attack the bearding.
You're also confusing the closet with bearding. Two completely different things. Jake could have stayed in the closet and not bearded.

No. It's the attitude that's grown here. It's nothing but anger and accusations. All the time. Can anybody be objective? Like someone else said you made it personal. I don't like him bearding, and I don't like him in the closet, but fans who act like this? If he came out and didn't do something else you liked you're going to do the same thing again.
