Jake is popping up on another children's program for PBS this year, and this one is a little familiar or is that familial?
Jake is part of this clip promoting reading on the new The Electric Company show this season. How is it so familiar or familial to him? Mom G was a senior producer for The Electric Company, where she worked with Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader. Naomi spent two years traveling the country, seeing all the different ways people were taught to read as they developed the Easy Reader component of the show.. So it has come full circle Mother/son with Jake promoting reading on the same show 30 plus y
ears later. What better gift to give than the gift of reading, it opens whole new worlds.
This is Jake third childrens programming project this year, celebrating Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, along with Maggie, by getting to Sesame Street this season. And then there is his project with Shalom Sesame, teaching children about their Jewish heritage. Mom must be proud since, she was also a content producer for the original Sesame Street, and also created short, animated films. (If she was responsible for The Alligator King, lots of gold stars)
It's not the first time that Jake was involved in reading and kids, his first time was narrating the book The Man Who Walked Between The Towers. It's great that Jake is getting involved and giving back to the preschool set. Wonder if that familiar or familial? Or just a flock?

Ah man, and Jake standing in front of that "Guys!" sign. Special, that is absolutely CLASSIC. It's classic. ROFLLLLL! And "Read My Mind" by the Killers. I love that song.

Interesting Jake's involvement in 3 PBS promo appearances involving kids, and not just kids, but also little ones. You know, when my niece & nephew were little, I had to watch Dora, Oswald, Blue's Clues, etc because hey, they ruled the TV. But I got to actually loving those shows. I knew all about those characters and so did my sister, brother & sister in law. You can't help it.
Something's telling me it just isn't his mom's connection with these shows that Jake's all of a sudden doing them. After all, he could have done something associated with them for the past 5 years. Why now? Maybe because there's someone in the household getting old enough to be fascinated by them on the TV set?
Anyway, it makes you think a bit, doesn't it?

Love Jake for his involvement with Electric Company, Sesame Street, and the sound of his wonderful voice on "The Man Between the Towers". It will be fun to see and hear him in upcoming interviews for the backlog of movies that should be released soon.

Ted's post - I took the reinvented relationship description to mean the bearding lite that Austin may be doing, the 5-o'clock shadow as opposed to full beard. Funny he mentioned it's getting on TT's nerves now. I also think Ted is saying TT and GG are still together, their relationship was formerly a partnership, now something more? It's so nice that he takes an interest in children's causes, encouraging reading, and also pride in their heritage. Can't wait for Shalom Sesame. :)

Agree with you Meg and London TB that all of this is a bit like a Greek tragedy, partly because I just don't see a happy outcome, no matter how it shakes down.
Interesting theory on the abs PG. But I think there are a lot of other things going on as well: building a suit of armor, thinking he'll get back the fans, look more "manly", competing with Austin himself.
You know, if Ted's sources are semi-correct, it's reassuring that Jake may be thinking what I (and others) have been thinking -- namely that the bearding strategy has really not been good for Jake. There are plenty of celebrities who seem to beard just fine (hi Zac) but it just doesn't work for Jake. My guess is that his openness was a big part of his appeal, and now that he's been told to shut down, he has lost a great deal of what made him a star.
I know Jake's representation and management are top-notch by the usual industry standards, but as I've said before, they really don't seem to know how to deal with Jake, in that he doesn't fit into the usual star-shaped box that they're used to marketing. I think he needs to either have a serious talk with his people, or perhaps find new management who get him, and who will help him build a career and image that suit him, rather than vice versa.
ITA Charybdis. Jake's appeal was based on the fact that he was different from the usual industry stars. When they decided to make him like everyone else, it killed off everything that made him "Jake". It's not just the bearding, but also being tabloid fodder, not being seen with him family and friends or biking, the ambiguity and mystery, the clothes that having seemingly been deemed to gay for him to be seen in and on and on.
I also think Jake's management's strategy was designed more from romcom Reese.
Every time I think of Adam Lambert I think of Jake and think that could have been him, and I think about how the people who signed up Adam realized they'd be killing off the things that made him a star if the shoved him in the closet. That's exactly what happened to Jake, and I don't think he'll ever get back to golden as long as he's in the closet.

Someone started the Jake is gay rumors a long time ago out of bitterness and because he has a high voice and played gay, and now some juvenile people feel it makes them look smart to yell PR and fake romance. They are giggling at home over their computers, thinking they are soooo clever, while they know very little about Reese and Jake and see 30 seconds worth of photos now and then.

There was an interesting story in today's WSJ about how out of touch HW is with their support of Polanski and being a town full of "yes" people. I totally agree. It's a disgrace that HW supports someone who raped a 13 year-old girl, but runs around trying to keep gay actors in the closet. SHAME ON HW.

Charbydis, that was a sharp statement you made. I agree. I don't know much about his PR firm specifically but since they represent Reese, too, they must be sharp as a tack. But they have done him such a disservice. Their number 1 disservice was telling him he was not acceptable the way he was. Their 2nd disservice was to try to change him as if there was something for him to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Those 2 things alone prove to me that they don't care about him nor could they love him as a person. He's simply a meal ticket.
Jake and Reese do not go to any lengths to hide the children. The kids are regularly photographed with Reese and Jake. They were in LA for just a few days and there was the family photo op at the yogurt place. How stupid can people be? I don't understand how fannishness prevents certain people from seeing what fake assholes Jake and Reese are.

I must have alzhiemers (sp?), since I don't have a clue what the comments that refer to "M" are all about. They are not even coherent. And for the record, I have never commented anywhere but OMG and once in a while at WFT2. Anyway, trolls and babblers remain on high alert, most likely due to Teds continued commitment to harassing Toothy. Also, there is a mole in the house again,leaking info to Ted. I'm sure Reese is not happy to hear Jake can barely tolerate her.
I spent almost the entire day cleaning my house. The construction will just render it a mess again next week, but I cant stand it and want to enjoy my weekend of peace in a clean environment.
Austin's profile is definitely growing as he becomes more known on OTH. I think Ted has mentioned him more in the last month or two than all prior mentions combined, not including as GG.

Destiny, I read that journal story this AM. My husband and I talked about Polanski just last night, trying to understand why people were defending him. Here in CA we just had a case where a girl, now a woman, was found after having been abducted when she was about the same age. To me Polanski's crime is no different. 13 is too young for informed consent + he drugged her. I like his movies too, but that is no reason to forgive him. Had the girl been 16 or 17, maybe I would feel differently. I was having sex by then myself. But at 13, he went too far.
i don't comment that much anymore because - for the moment - i just don't have anything to say. but today, reading the BV and the other comments here, i will say i feel a bit hopeful for the future.
i'm so tired of the blech jake that we've been watching for the last 3 years, and the fact that NOTHING has varied in that time tells me that his life that we are seeing is a product, not the real thing. no one's life is this stagnant and boring, especially not a hot, 27 year old movie star who HAD the world on a string.
i'm completely convinced that he got sold a parcel of goods; someone in the HW higher ups told him he needed to change his image if he wanted to get the meatier roles, and oh, by the way, here's someone who just happens to need a new image as well, and we can justify it because ya'll have this movie coming out. the fact that they didn't even make the movie together is not well known, and so everyone just believes what they are supposed to believe. except for us. i will never believe it's real. i can't. there is something in my brain that refuses to accept it and nothing will change that. i may be wrong, but i don't think so.
i think that whoever is in charge of this has to see the giant FAIL stamp on the Reeke file, and hopefully they are working towards an amicable breakup and moving on with his life. if he follows the pattern of life after kirsten, maybe he'll be on his own for a while. or maybe, please, he'll rediscover his pair and quit with the fakery and just be who he is and let the chips fall where they may. thats easy for me to say tho. i've got a job and a life and i don't have any secrets that could hurt me. therefore, i will be here, hoping, but still supporting him whatever he decides to do. :)

I feel much the same way, not a lot of use in discussing it endlessly, just sit watch, wait, comment from time to time and see what happens. Jake had the potential to be so much more that just a younger version of what we've seen in the past from HW. He had some real appeal and sensitivity. I hope we get to see that once again.
