What happens when you combine Mardi Gras and the biggest primary voting day for the Presidential campaign in the United State? My Big Fat Super Tuesday.
Mardi Gras the last hurrah celebration before the beginning of the 40 days of Lent, is celebrated all over the world, but Mardi Gras in New Orleans is synonymous with many. Parades, parties and the pursuit of beads is the agenda. Food, (beignets, perhaps?), drink (definitely some Hurricanes), and song (Jazz and Zydeco), combined and stirred into a bacchanal orgy of indulgence. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! Yes beads are thrown to everyone, but tradition has become that those who flash get the most beads. And it's not just for the ladies. Hmmm Jake is his Jarhead dance gear shaking that moneymaker could bring home the beady bling baby. But what would the boy named after a good time libation be doing? After spending many many years in Louisiana half dressed and on the lakes, he knows exactly what to do Pinch the Tail and Suck the Head. Come on now, you know that's how you eat crawfish. ; )
But what is so Super today? 24 states in the U.S will be voting today in Presidential primaries. The theory to many in political circles is winner take all from today. The Mardi Gras approach capturing the Democrat or Republican nomination. Because after tomorrow the field will be narrow down even more, and some cases might be determined as the official "yet to be officially nominated" candidate for President of the United States. And this year is historical because for the first time either a woman or African American will be the official Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
And the guys? Jake and his family have always been politically active in helping people get out to vote and support of the Democratic party. But this year it is Austin who popped up first showing his support for Barack Obama in the Yes We Can video. Back as brunette and looking fine and very dandy. Fingers crossed that we get to see more of him out campaigning for Obama. Jake has yet to disclose who he is campaigning for, perhaps waiting for the Democratic candidate to be chosen.
You Tube: Yes We Can(Barack Obama campaign)
But it is important for anyone in the US to participate in the process of choosing our leadership. If there is a primary in your state and you are a registered voter get out and vote and participate! If you have not registered to vote, make sure that you do before the Presidential election in November. You have a opportunity to make a difference for yourself, for others, and for the world in that one name you choice. There is power in voting.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard do a PSA for voting:
Rock the Vote
Ann
This is to respond to the last On the Rocks blog. Here is the link to the Herald Sun
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/
Go down to the bottom left of the front page, you will see stories and videos about Heath. This publication has zero insider knowledge, the people the are reporting to have attended a memorial service are only those whom they were able to catch on video, there were 1000 people at the service, there was no press, it was private, they have no idea exactly who did or did not attend.
Ann,
Give it a rest.
Fun post today, and much needed. I have very fond memories of N'awlins. Love Buckwheat Zydeco, second only to Beausoleil for me! Also, everyone, get out and vote today!
A question for all to ponder- Why do you think Austin supports Obama? What qualities does Obama have that Austin likes?
I have a suggestion. We all know that the Babbles cannot stay out of here. They WILL be here today, just like every other day. How about we ignore them we they show up?
FEED THE JAUSTY. STARVE A TROLL.
Show us your buns Jakey!
Whooohoooey!!!!!!
Shake that booty!!!!
*throws beads*
*Jake catches them with his..pole*
From Google alerts-
Jake makes the Art House Powerhouse 100
Great song today, Spesh!
Gotta Love Buckwheat. Nothing better than dancing with 25,000 other well "hydrated" : ) people and partying in the heat, shaking it out to some great Zydeco.
Get that backfield in motion baby!
Frenchy, Thanks for checking out Austin's "alleged" appearance on The West Wing. Too bad he wasn't in the episode. :(
To add to the madness here in NYC, we also have the parade for the Giants. I voted on the way in to work, it didn't seem that busy yet, I'm hoping that is not an early indicator of the turnout.
It's nice to see Austin pop up in that video because we can now add an interest in politics to the list of things he has in common with Jake. Now if we could just get Austin to shake his booty....
Missed a lot of comments in yesterday's thread due to popping in and out. I did some clean up. Some of you will find your comments deleted.
Barkerfan, thanks for the heads up.
Re: "Architectural Delights" from Rattler's Rendition clip -
Jake is truly my definition of the Vitruvian Man. Beauteous!
There,s nothing like some naked Jake to lift the mood. Thanks. Been thinking some on Ted's comments. For one, they make me sure that either he or his interns continue to monitor WFT and OMG to get the lay of the land. Jake's silence is the big topic right now. I find it hard to believe that casual Jake fans sent enough emails for Ted to bring this up. Ted can't really discuss Toothy right now - not while he is in mourning. That would be tasteless. But Ted can keep his name in the column other ways. Three mentions is a lot.
*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THOSE IN THE US*
In a few days, phone companies will be releasing cell phone numbers to telemarketers. If you do not want telemarketer calls, call the FTC Do Not Call List from the cell phone that you want blocked. Phone number is 888-382-1222. I just did it and it takes less than a minute.
I got this in a google search. I don't know if its true.
http://mommmgonzalez.blogspot.com/
I don't mind that flat boney little ass! Elections and Mardis Gras is a wierd combo. I elect to have a good time at the poles. :D Or should it be erecting at the poles??lol
Teal, I don't know whether to find that sighting credible or not!

Why are so many sightings posted on blogs that are: a)obscure, b)just started, or c)both?
Gah, I really hope this one is not true and she's not fighting with him at a time like this. What a witch! :(
No time to comment to that very interesting post. Interesting question too Wicked, about why Austin supports Obama. Will come back tonight.
Personally I ignore any "sighting" that originates from any nobody's blogs. Some people online are just hungry for attention.
Hey Stubborn, I'm having spätzle today at the office. Is it some kind of staple in the region where you live? Mine are sautéed, with some spices and parmesan. :) :)
Personally I ignore any "sighting" that originates from any nobody's blogs.
Good policy!
Frenchy, they really are a staple in the region I used to live since recently.
Really funny that they're called the same in Canada. Or is it just you who calls them that?
The account in that sighting reads credible but you have to wonder why so many Jake sightings are posted on blogs that have just started up.
Stubborn, my girlfriend is from the same area you used to live. She once freaked out at me (in a nice way) for trying to add salt and pepper to what was supposed to be a sweet wine sauce for spätzle.
And I was reminded by the niece and nephew that tonight I have to make pancakes. Why -- not only is it Super Tuesday and Mardi Gras but it is Shrove Tuesday/Pancake day.
From Wikipedia:
"Shrove Tuesday is the term used in the United Kingdom [1] and Australia[2] to refer to the day after Shrove Monday (or the more old fashioned Collop Monday) and before Ash Wednesday (the liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday). In Ireland, England and amongst Anglicans, Lutherans and possibly other Protestant denominations in Canada including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, this day is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday, because it is customary to eat pancakes on this day."
I think that OMG should give up engaging trolls for Lent.
How about deleting troll posts for Lent? :)
Well, you shouldn't mess with anything to do with Spätzle, Daff.
We can get a little testy when it comes to that ;)
You don't get rid of temptation, but resist it. That right? Not sure, I was a bad kid in CCD.
Heath's autopsy results may be coming in today. www.people.com.
How about deleting troll posts for Lent? :)
If you will all make a STRONG, and I mean STRONG, effort to NOT engage, then it's a deal. We do not like censorship, and the more you engage, the more censorship we will have to do. Let's keep it down to a minimum, shall we? :)
Stubborn, I believe the phrase used was "spitting on my heritage." :) I now know not to mess with the purity of The Spätzle.
Disloyally, however, the best Spätzle I ever had was not Badische but savoury Spätzle in Graz, Austria, fried with garlic and served with pumpkin soup, with a green dollop of pumpkin-seed oil in the middle of the soup bowl.
Daff, I'm assuming your girlfriend doesn't read OMG, right?
Or else, from the sounds of it, you might as well get the extra covers to sleep on the couch already ;)
She doesn't read OMG. :)
This spätzle sounds like very serious stuff! Please forgive my ignorance, but what is it?
Stubborn, my friend used a recipe written in English and the word was "spaetzle". I found the word "spätzle" in an... English-French dictionary, lol. Apparently "spätzle" is considered the correct word to use in French. :)
For you Wicked:
Literally translated from German as "little sparrow", spaetzle is a dish of tiny noodles or dumplings made with flour, eggs, water or milk, salt and sometimes nutmeg. The spaetzle dough can be firm enough to be rolled and cut into slivers or soft enough to be forced through a sieve or colander with large holes. The small pieces of dough are usually boiled before being tossed with butter or added to soups or other dishes. In Germany, spaetzle is served as a side dish much like potatoes or rice, and is often accompanied by a sauce or gravy.
Good thing I'm eating lunch while reading all these posts about food. I never heard that before about pancakes Special, I've always thought of Fat Tuesday as a day to feast. And I never knew there were so many ways to eat spatzle.
And now that I've had time to digest Wicked's question, I suspect Austin likes Obama for the same reason a lot of other people like him--because he stands for change. After 8 years of a Clinton and 12 of the Bushes, I think a lot of people would prefer to not have 8 more years of another Clinton. Along the same lines, he just doesn't seem like he's part of the "establishment" and doesn't seem like someone who will not think for himself, as evidenced by the fact he was against the war from the beginning, when I think a lot of politicians were afraid of being labeled as unpatriotic.
G*d, you guys are making me hungry, I haven't had lunch yet - I love spaetlze, anything with pasta or noodles is my downfall. Not only that, I'm now craving banana pancakes, crawfish, an oyster po-boy on incredible French bread, gumbo with okra (love that stuff), and a cafe au lait and a beignet! Where am I gonna find any of that up here? ;)
I can happily give up engaging the trolls for Lent, Wicked! :)
Thanks for the info, Frenchy! Sounds delicious!
Destiny, we really have had 20 years of Clinton/Bushes. 20! Damn. I agree that change is why Austin is attracted to Obama.
Personally, I would be happy with either Obama or Hillary. They are not that different ideologically. I just worry that so many people have such irrational hate towards Hillary that she is not electable. I think she would be a good president. I like Obama because he is such a breath of fresh air and does not seem part of the Washington machine.
Next week is the DC primary, and usually by the time our primary comes around, the candidates are already decided. This year, DC may actually matter. Yay! I will definitely be voting.
I just worry that so many people have such irrational hate towards Hillary that she is not electable. I think she would be a good president."
I think some of the hatred towards her borders on the psychotic/pathological. I don't get it. You would think the way some people go on against her she planned 9/11 with Osama.
I think Hilary could be a problem in the general election too Wicked. I've read that Republicans would like to see Hilary be the candidate because so many people don't like her and they think she'd be easier to beat.
Personally, I would be happy with either Obama or Hillary. They are not that different ideologically.
I agree, although I lean slightly more toward Obama. I vote for the candidate who most closely matches my overall ideology and party values. I'd vote for either.
Wicked at 2:29 is not me. My posts always have a clickable name and my mermaid icon.
However, I do think this FauxWicked's point is correct.
What a day with all the Mardi gra and election stuff goin on esp for NY & Giants parade.
NETB lets meet for early allnight dinner. pancakes and crawfish and bengiets and shakin bootys yum.
^^You got it! ;)
Sorry, Jeff, but I've come to an executive decision. You will no longer have a platform here at OMG. Any posts that I know are yours, or that I or anyone else suspects are yours, will be deleted. You have enough platforms on the internet. Go play on those.
Of course, I could never eat alllll of that food - just thinkin' of different yummy N'awlins stuff. If I had to choose, I'd choose the fried oystah po-boy (to die for) - and a Hurricane! And the pancakes . . . and a cafe au lait . . . ;)
wicked's oh so innocent (not) Tinkerbelle seen hoofin an woofin it up at Mardi Gruff 'bration. earned herself enuff beads to fill 2 greatdane doghouses if ya kno whut I mean. bitch knows how to party.
bitch knows how to party.
Can I get an AMEN? ;)
Tink, you haven't been flashin' andy a dem dawgs, have ya? ;)

Tink, ah don't blame ya, darlin'! ;) But ya sure got yaself one hunk a dawg in that Atti, girl! ;)
Tink has been grounded until the end of time.
Sorry Wicked, that was me at 2:29, I have no idea how I did that. Guess I was thinking about what I was going to write when I should have been thinking about my name. Too bad I can't say I was out enjoying the festivities a little to much.
Sorry, Jeff, but I've come to an executive decision. You will no longer have a platform here at OMG.
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
LOL that is BS Jeff and you know it
Poor, delusional Jeff.
He won't be missed!
Censorship is as censorship does.
This is part of Jeff's post, which will probably be deleted. An unbelievable statement from someone who participates at Gyllenbabble.
not anymore, they deleted him too, 3 posts today. he posted there just now and says he leaving them for good.
Laughing,
How did he manage that, what did he post about?
Jeff said he wasn't coming back here either and he did. The Babblets are better off without him. I wouldn't wish him on anyone.
At Gyllenbabble, Jeff decided that the sighting on the Brothers set was made up by someone here and used insulting language toward us. They deleted him. He got mad, and now he says he's taking his ball and going home. They should be so lucky. We all should be!
it was about the NM J/R sighting from Brothers. he said that OMG (here) set it up and lied and he argued about it. An anon posted the blog link, he said one of the OMGers was the anon, blah blah he kept going on. they dont like his attitude or downgading other sites/posters either i guess. duh.
Thanks!
they dont like his attitude or downgading other sites/posters either i guess
Wow! Something we actually agree on! :)
I can't imagine Jeff being able to either stay away or shut up, so I think he'll be back. I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere. Maybe he'll start his own blog. He can talk to himself, like usual.
The funny thing about Jeff is that he is either gay or a strong gay supporter. You should read his posts on the "Milk" page on imdb, he is very supportive of the film and of what it represents, it's about Harvey Milk and will be this years big "gay" movie. I remember reading his posts on the Jake page and thought he was a homophobe or something, then I read all his posts for "Milk" and he is very supportive.
Go figure.
I missed all the Jeff!
That blog thing does sound a bit made up - for her daughter? Huh? Why not write in Spanish?
I have to go and think about Collop Monday, which I've never heard of :)
Thanks to WDW, Jake is showing some political support being on the Advisory Board of a new documentary Crawford. It will premiere at the South By Southwest Fest (Austin!) on March 8th. See trailer here. You can imagine with Jake, Ted Danson et al on the board that this will be a bit of a scathing doc on Bush.
Jeffpuim has changed his screenname on imdb.com! It's now jackbourassa.
He has deleted ALL of his posts on the Jake Gyllenhaal board but kept a lot of them on Milk (where he has his new screenname).
I fear that Jeff may have morphed. Watch out folks he's back.
I was beginning to doubt it was jeff until I spotter reference to koolaid. WTF its obsessive (apologies wicked and Special but its hard not to respond).
Jeff supports Obama--has posted A LOT in support of him on the imdb Obama board.
I don't know, once you've been very close friends with someone, even if life circumstances cause you to drift apart, you can never go back to being just acquaintances, I don't think. You'll always have that history together. But that's just me.
IMDB is Watching, please keep watching for us.
Bauhaus, I deleted your comment because you called people dumb and idiots in it. Otherwise I would have let it stand.
OK Magazine is running a story in their next issue (which comes out tomorrow) on how Jake is coping with Heath's death.
Prepare to upchuck. I'm sure Reese will be hailed as Jake's savior during this trying time.
I failed to see how that blog created like yesterday or today in a broken English (for the benefit of whom?) that sounds like a spoof of a Latino could be any credible.
The one saying Jake was cracking jokes at Heath's memorial though was also completely stupid. Blogs like those are utter bs.
Wow, so much has happened! See what I get when I have to work.
Back to a question Wicked asked about Austin choosing Obama.
I wonder if the difference between Hillary's and Obama's policy on healthcare could be a factor for this Dr.'s son.
Gyllenbabble and WDW have the same post topic.
Jake might say:
You like potato and I like potahto,
You like tomato and I like tomahto,
You like Obama and I like Hillary,
Let's call the whole thing off!
But oh! If we call the whole thing off,
Then we must part.
And oh! If we ever part,
Then that might break my heart!
I'm back from supper on the town with friends and the last results I saw on the TV over there was that Hillary was leading, but with a very small percentage.
I think a lot of distate with her stems from the fact that she supported the war in Irak. As for Austin, it seems that Obama has succeeded in drawing to the voting booth a younger usually disaffected crowd. But this is a gut feeling, I haven't checked his appeal demographic-wise.
Only had time for some off-and-on lurking today and I still have to catch up with today's posts. I noticed though that JP has been banned and I still have to find words that will properly express my complete, utter delight at this "executive" decision! :) :) :)
Correction to my previous comment:
I didn't mean to say that Austin was not active nor disaffected politically but rather that Obama was a "new voice" and that younger people are probably, for the first time, totally enthusiastic about a candidate. From that perspective, Hillary appears to be the "old guard" and they are wary of her ties to Washington's PTB.
Ok enough politics for today.
Thanks for another great post Special. I hope that Mardi Gras won't prove too much for my American friends' digestive system and that tomorrow will find you up and ready just as Jake on these delicious Jarhead pics. :D
He gets banned everywhere eventually he just reinvents himself under a new name. Truly an insane person
I don't think he's on anyone's side or supportor - he just likes to go against whatever's on a blog site to pick a fight.
I hadn't thought about the candidates different policies on health insurance issues Special; Obama's would probably find more favor with doctors than Clinton's.
good work, too funny. Yea I knew he wasn't in LA like I am cuz he was 3 hrs ahead when he posted stuff like going to lunch [at 9 am here.] gotta wonder if he cant even figure in timezones. duh. he just likes to fight. who needs that crap, i have enuff of it at work battling people every day. ;)
Very irresponsible behavior at 10:22.
This is not funny at all.
The comment should be expunged immediately, IMO.
OT: Sean Penn and James Franco as lovers in "Milk" (and yes that shot of the guy with Franco IS Sean Penn): http://www.towleroad.com/2008/02/sean-penn-and-j.html
Shock News.. Penelope doesn't do as badly as you may have wished.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7228773.stm
£770k isn't that bad really (although I don't see it doing too well next weekend with Juno opening). Good to see though that the lovely Eva Longoria can out sell 'can open any film' a-lister Reese.
From OK! magazine:
"Jake Still Struggling With Heath's Death
Though it's been over two weeks since the unexpected, tragic death of Heath Ledger, sources close to Heath's Brokeback Mountain co-star Jake Gyllenhaal tell OK! that the actor is still struggling with the news.
"Jake's not snapping out of the shock," a friend of the actor tells OK!. "He's a pretty upbeat guy, and this is tearing him apart."
The insider adds that Jake — who is godfather to Heath and Michelle Williams' daughter Matilda — feels guilty for not being there for his friend."He really bonded with Heath and said nothing but amazing things about him as an actor and as a person. I bet he wishes he had known how bad things were... but there's only so much a person can do."
For the full story on how Jake is coping with the loss of his good friend, pick up the new issue of OK! — on newsstands everywhere Thursday."

Shock News.. Penelope doesn't do as badly as you may have wished.
Shocking news indeed!
But nothing can improve that shitty movie and Reese choosed to produce and act in it.
It looks like another flop - that will make flop No 4 out of her last 5 movies.
Here's a little bit of fluff from Television Without Pity
Send In The CGI Wolves: It's not a good movie. It might not even be a good guilty pleasure. But it features the onscreen pairing of Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols, and for some people that's all you need. Plus, like I said, the CGI wolves. FX, 5:30 PM
Thought we could all use a little sigh and smile at the thought.
:)
