Red Carpet Rave Reviews

While Jake wasn't at this year's Oscars he was far from forgotten. Both the Academy and Men's Vogue recalled Jake on their Oscar men's fashion highlights.

The Academy celebrating their 80th birthday did a look back at Oscar style and Jake was on their list for two of his walks on the red carpet. Their first was when he was a co-presenter for Best Visual Effects at the 77th Academy awards in 2005, Jake wore a Valentino tuxedo. The Italian-made tuxedo was designed with a satin peak lapel and a two-button closure and made him look ever the dapper gentleman as he escorted Maggie, his date for the evening. He carried off the look of the freshly shorn head of Marine with certain confidence. Could have it been more than just a great suit to gave him that sexy swagger?

And both the Academy and Men's Vogue agreed on Jake's Oscar look in 2006. Celebrating the success of Brokeback and his Oscar nomination, Jake hit the red carpet old Hollywood style, never looking better, as fashion critics agreed. Wearing a classic tux designed by Ralph Lauren (Purple Label), again with peak lapels, his accessories included the white formal shirt, the black bow tie and white pocket square. Something as simple as that white pocket square stepped the look up from the rest on the red carpet. Men's Vogue loved it so much that got Jake a spot on their Top 10 Best of Oscar's Past. Jake never looked better that evening and it was not all about the clothes either. Jake looked as if he could conquer the world that night, and his dazzling grin and eyes sparkled with a confidence that few could ever rival. Again there is more than just a great, make that an incredible, suit to create that air and aura. Why said? Maybe because he can have that same aura in a grey shirt and jeans sitting courtside, perhaps.

The suit can make the man, and his accessories make him stand out from the rest. But there is one thing Jake has that never came from his stylist that truly sets him apart.

Didn't expect to see Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy on the The Best of Oscars Past list.

Have I seen that ear before?

Just wanted to address a few things from the last thread.

BWF- interesting about Kumari and her decision to discontinue her RPS. I don't read RPS but I have read her J/E and she is a very good writer. I thought the comments were interesting too. So many other folks were also not feeling Jake these days.

Spooky Mulder- you are not a "card carrying cynic wearing conspiracy galoshes" for thinking that trolls stay on this blog refreshing pages. I can tell you from Sitemeter that there are a few people who come on the blog every day, stay on for 3-4 hours at a time, and have 30 page views. Can't say who they are, but they are here.

Frenchy- Nick Drake video looks interesting. Drake is an amazing songwriter and I hope the film will get him some much deserved attention. It makes sense that Heath would be interested in him. He is a tremendous influence on so many songwriters, including Elliott Smith, who I love.

Spesh- the story about Lawrence King reminds us all why people don't come out even today. Some people end up paying the ultimate price for trying to live an authentic life.

^^It does look familiar, that ear! Sigh. I missed Jake at the Oscars this year, he does look great in a tux, doesn't he? My favorite is the Ralph Lauren.

Thanks for the XTC today! I love them, very creative musicians.

Loooove Maggie's dress!

Wicked said...

NETB- did you know that XTC released 2 records in the '80s as The Dukes of Stratosphear? They are homages to '60s psychedelia and the first one especially is fabulous. I think it's called 25 O'Clock. Also, XTC quit touring really early in their career because of lead singer Andy Partridge's paralyzing stage fright. He used to get panic attacks on stage.

Anonymous said...

What an eagle eye Raising Hand. Austin does have very distinctive ears.

Anonymous said...

^^Yes, and I remember that, and how much I loved that name, Dukes of Stratosphear! I find it amazing that quite a few musicians and actors suffer from stage fright and panic attacks - it sounds like a contradiction. Just goes to show how strong the urge for creative expression can be that it still drives them, even with intense fear! I love XTC's clever lyrics and beautiful melodies. ;)

Sigh, Jake does look amazing in the tux!

What is interesting is the difference in Jake's shape in wearing similar tuxes. You can really see how much he bulked up for Jarhead even with a tux on, compared to the look in the Ralph Lauren tux. Granted they are cut slightly differently. The Valentino does have a higher stance (where the jacket starts to button) so it shortens Jake's torso up, and being bulked up a bit for Jarhead, makes him look broader. The Ralph Lauren has a long stance created a illusion of a longer torso, and Jake getting back to a leaner look for Zodiac, makes him give Clooney and Grant (Cary not Hugh) a run for their money. Talk about Old Hollywood.

. . . makes him give Clooney and Grant (Cary not Hugh) a run for their money. Talk about Old Hollywood.

Sigh. He really does. :)

Special K said...

^^ and of course the difference between a neck tie and a bow tie also influence the look.

Anonymous said...

^^Yes - he's extremely elegant at the 2006 Oscars. Both are great, tho. Just that bit more formality of the bow tie and more traditional tux, and the bow tie and facial scruff that highlight his exquisite face - this look gets me every time. Very Old Hollywood and romantic.

I love a man in a tux with a bow tie - so much more elegant, sophisticated and old HW to me. Jake really knows how to work that look.

Hollywood's 'perfect woman' & Ultimate hunk

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Austin's ear. Now I see it.

Wicked said...

Someone said in the comments on these perfect women and HW hunks that they are all god awful! I agree. I think people are not meant to be flawless. Too many perfect features together looks terrible!

Anonymous said...

^^Ewww - I know! It's the so-called "flaws" of individuality that give people beauty, I think. :)

I was sorry to hear about people in the BBM writing fandom losing inspiration - I wonder if it's the letdown and emptiness of Heath being gone that's doing it. I hope it's only temporary and the muse will come back to them in time. :)

Speaking of unforgettable Oscar looks, Oscar flashed back to the 61st when Daniel Day-Lewis won for My Left Foot, looking like a Romantic-era poet, with long-wavy hair and waistcoat. That look is heart-stoppingly beautiful too! :)

Anonymous said...

I totally agree about the composites and people who are perfect; they just look plastic and cold to me. I think it is the combination of looks and quirks (for lack of a better word) that makes someone sexy.

Jake really does know how to work a tux. He puts most of the men on that list to shame, but some of that is the puzzling choices. I think Murphy's tux is hideous, and I don't think Hugh Grant looks very good in his.

I never made it to The Oscars though moi's words have.

Anonymous said...

Hello tor :)

That's most definitely Austin's ear.

Anonymous said...

yeah, looks like Austin to me too.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure we've been proved wrong about that ear on another occasion. A troll will be by soon to show us the proof and to tell us how deluded we are.

me at an Oscar's after party?

what? what? I can't hear you. Oh oh ohhhh.

At an Oscar's after party? No comment. ; )

Shit. Even his ear is hot.

The thought of both Jake and Austin in tuxes. *sigh*

The idea of Jake and Austin OUT of those tuxes. *wink*

Jake wasn't housewares shopping by himself:
Wicked was brilliant.

The blogger didn't say she was tiny (thank g*d) but does Tom know she's cheating on him? Or is she gonna say she and Jake were buying things for Atti and Tinky's new dog house and everything was above board? Yea, riiiight.

Wicked, all of us (especially Tom) want to see your house wares store receipts.

Tinky said she did not get any gifts from you for her new dog house. She said you gave her some little soaps and mini shampoos from a Siesta Beverly NoTell Motel.

We are waiting to see your PR's reaction.

This just in from Out of Touch magazine:

Wither Thou Goest!

[by Megan Itallup] Photos courtesy of Butterflynet.com

Several recent sightings of Jake Gyllenhaal all by his lonesome (and seemingly the happier for it!) would seem to back up reports from insiders that all is not rosy in the Jake and Reese camp. A source close to the couple says that with all of the excitement of working on Rendition together, and being in the most romantic city in the world for the film premiere, the Eternal City as it were, may have sparked flames that the couple weren't able to fan over the long haul. After the cold light of day set in back in Los Angeles, and it was back to the reality of kids, walking pets, and conflicting film schedules, you know, the kinds of mundane stuff we all experience, the couple gradually came to realize that, like many who get caught up in Hollywood love affairs that last only for the duration of a film, they had nothing in common that could sustain a long-term relationship. According to this source, they are still “good friends” but have agreed to go their separate ways.

A strained lunch date had them arguing within inches of each other’s faces, eye witnesses say, with a visibly upset Reese trying to hide her face from the paps as they sped away in Jake’s Camry afterwards. The National Enquirer even reports that Jake has basically become “incommunicado, completely blocking out the drone of Reese’s voice”. A good pal says “Whew! Looks like Jake got himself out just in the nic of time, before Reese could put that green leash of love around his neck for good. I knew it was the end when Jake preferred to spend Valentine’s Day at the dentist’s office having his teeth cleaned!”

At any rate, ladies (and gentlemen), looks like the lonesome cowboy has come

Anonymous said...

^^to his senses!

Anonymous said...

that, too!

Anonymous said...

is beyond scary

Do not click this link unless you can handle Reese admitting to pure evil! What could be next- overdue library books?

Anonymous said...

So the Dentist scraped off the plaque, tart and tartar all in one visit? Cool.

Anonymous said...

or whuts worse/better lol is if jakey did reese and then felt the need to go have his mouth cleaned the next morning.

FYI- Blogger will have a scheduled maintenance outage for approx. 10 minutes at 9 pm EST.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Reese really knows how to walk on the wild side!

Anonymous said...

Are you going to admit I was right?
I told you she didn't recycle.

Pay up! (looking at the grin grow across those delicious lips)

Maybe I'll take that new blender instead.

Oh don't give me those eyes. Come here you.

"I’ll wait literally until the middle of the night when the children are asleep, and I’ll take my extra garbage, and I’ll put it in the can."

I admit I didn't understand this. What's she talking about? Why she does that? If someone can explain, I'd be grateful.

Anonymous said...

Lili, I'm guessing you're not American. You're given one trash can and you're not supposed to put more trash out than will fill the can. If you have more trash than that, sometimes you might try to put the trash in your neighbor's can if their can is not full. This is frowned upon. People do not want their trash fraternizing with other peoples' trash!

Anonymous said...

^^LOL

Anonymous said...

Why do blondes have TGIF on their shoes? "Toe goes in first".

Anonymous said...

I hope she's separating that trash into the glass, aluminum cans and plastic bins and not just plunking it into the neighbors' trash cans any which way!

Anonymous said...

That is honestly repulsive, ignorant behaviour to me. Does she think it's acceptable as long as she gets away with it? I hope her neighbours start putting a padlock on their bin (or a trip wire around it, lol). That sort of action says a lot about a person, imo, and none of it good.

On a brighter note, could Austin's pants be any more precarious? Good god, man! ;)

Anonymous said...

Every time I see a picture of Austin, I'm blown away thinking they can't get any better. Those new (old) pics are fabulous. Those pants are barely covering the goods. And that back! I am going to dream about that back tonight. Jake's a fool if he lets that man get away.

I also noticed in the pics of Jake and his P/A, she seems to be rockin the same dark nail polish as Austin in yesterdays photos.

Anonymous said...

^ No comment on Tuxedo Jake to go along with the Austin love, bltb? :(

Anonymous said...

Well Austin is a fool if he let Jake get away. He could not be more beautiful in these tuxedo pics.

Anonymous said...

No, bltb is too busy thrashing Reese.
