Ushering in the Weekend

Austin has written posts on blogs and mentioned pursuing , but remember when he was a writer in a film. Roderick Usher had quite interesting writing rituals.

And well a lot other interesting things going on in the House of Usher.

Austin has mentioned picking part that he finds interesting. And as an English major you can imagine Austin would be interesting in reinterpreting the Edgar Allen Poe classic. Going a little Southern gothic way before meeting up with Hil, Nick and Kelly. And when you think about it Poe was about as Southern Gothic as you could get in a real Goth sense. (While Poe was born in Boston, he was raised in Virginia, and he spent his college days, many of those gambling, at UVA before getting kicked out )

Working on a small independent film like House of Usher it makes you think that Austin had the chance to put a lot of input in his character and his role.

What do you think he brought to the role of Roderick? The hair? The coat? The earmuffs? The shirtless scenes? The heat shield visor sunglasses? Or the hoodie? ; )

Did anyone else think that the silk scarf around his neck was Maddy's?

Smaller world file: Beth Grant who played Kitty Farmer in Donnie Darko plays the housekeeper Mrs. Thatcher in House of Usher.

And a little OTH update: Hilarie talks about leaving OTH , staying in Wilmington and plans for Southern Gothic with EW.com. And check out Southern Gothic for updates about their projects and Pedestrian.

He does. And he wears it quite proudly too!

When Austin did House of Usher he had been playing a several privileged guy roles, but Rodrick had a bit a dark side that I could see Austin attracted to. I think there was so much more that they could have done with Usher, but I think they did the best they could with such a small film, small budget and super short film schedule.

Would love to ask Austin what he would like to do now with the role looking back on it.

PG, I've realized it takes more spiritual strength and fortitude in dealing with a family health issue. My dad passed a month ago, and he survived two spouses and a son all lost to cancer. Gratefully, he was fully cognizant of his condition, and often joked about it while in hospice care. Rest assured you & your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

And a (()) for Tom for coming out to two more friends.

And great catch Read It, you're absolutely right about the placement of the comma. I tend to read things too quickly. Still wish Ted had been more out there with his answer as I'm sure 99% of his readers missed that.

One of the thinks I liked about Usher is that Austin had great chemistry with the actress in it.

((EV tb)) Thoughts and prayers to you too.

Lost many in my family to cancer, and later found myself working at cancer center (as did my brother at the same time) and think it was something we both were lead to doing as part our journeys. While you would think there would be so much sadness somewhere like that, but it was filled with even more hope and promise. And when you see the success of a patient who wins their fight, it is inspiring.

Austin did used the favorite coat for Usher, which must have been a bitch in heavy coat since they filmed in the summer up here. It's not Texas but it does get warm.

My favorite part of the Usher shoot - is that they used a retirement home for the Usher house and shot around the residents and at night. I just picture these little old ladies having no idea why there is the guy wearing a silk scarf and earmuffs.

You wonder if Austin just nabbed a pair of the heat shield visor glasses from one of the older guys who just got back from the eye doctor.

And how much gel and time in hair did it take to get his hair that straight and flat?

i know they were going for a certain look, but I hate that hairstyle, and the clothes too. I don't know why they couldn't have let him be hot and strange, instead of kind of preppy/nerdy/strange.

Champion Phillies visit fellow underdog Obama

AP - May 15, 12:54 pm EDT 20 of 20 MLB Gallery WASHINGTON (AP)—President Barack Obama turned Phillie Phanatic for a day, praising the 2008 World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies as “an underdog team that loved to prove the prognosticators wrong.”

“And so we share something in common there, because nobody thought I was going to win either,” he said to laughter at a White House reception Friday.

Obama talked up manager Charlie Manuel and players such as Cole Hamels(notes), Brad Lidge(notes), Chase Utley(notes) and Ryan Howard(notes), as well as fellow Hawaiian Shane Victorino(notes). And he thanked shortstop Jimmy Rollins(notes) for making calls on behalf of Obama’s campaign last year.

Rollins presented Obama with a jersey and baseball, but the president wanted more—he jokingly asked for Rollins’ World Series ring.

Obama said Philadelphia’s championship was a victory for fans like Vice President Joe Biden and David Plouffe, who managed last year’s campaign.

“I’m not sure whether he cared more about my victory or the Phillies’ victory,” Obama cracked about Plouffe.

The Phillies’ championship was their first since 1980, and Obama said that as a fan, he knows something about long droughts like that—his Chicago White Sox went nearly nine decades without a title before snapping the streak in 2005.

President Barack Obama shakes …

AP - May 15, 2:08 pm EDT
“So Cubs fans out there, take heart,” he said to laughter “Anything is possible.” The Cubs, Chicago’s other baseball team, last won a World Series in 1908.

Rollins told reporters later that the event meant a lot to him.

“To have the first black president in office, number 44, it kind of just brings it all together,” he said. “It was like something that was meant to be — he won the presidency, we won the World Series.”

Rollins said he did hesitate at first when approached to campaign for Obama.

“Sports and politics—they tell you don’t do that,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m a U.S. citizen first.”

The two men joked about hoops during the White House visit.

“I asked him where the basketball court was, and he said, ‘I got a foot on you,”’ said Rollins, who is listed at five-foot, eight-inches tall. “I told him I’m too quick.”

The Phillies were originally scheduled to meet the president on April 14. But that visit was postponed after the death the day before of Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, whom Obama also praised Friday.

How sweet it is..............

Happy Birthday Mrs. Wicked from me and my misses!

Speaking of Philly, reminds me of Wicked's earlier crack. I can't remember the names, but there is a great Afghanistan restaurant on one of the main drags, down near the river, killer vegetarian food. There is also a Burmese restaurant that I really like. Both of them are nothing great inside to look at it.

One Come On In Blind Vice

If you have a problem with yet another Blind Vice being about veiled same-sex goings-on, you really are reading about the wrong community. This is Hollywood, home of the unfree and the unbrave, a city where everybody pretends to be something they're not—and I don't just mean the gays.

But today's Blind Vice is all about a TV personality who not only goes commando when he's hanging at his buddy's apartment, but who hits on whoever walks through the damn front door!

Woody Drop-Hint's a total guy's guy. He struts around his nonscripted TV offering, helping run things, not only with considerable aplomb and charm, he's totally doable while doing it, too! Woody's a really approachable guy, for sure. So much so he approached a guy who just happens to be...

A very close friend of the Awful Truth, if Woody only knew! So, there Mr. Drop-Hint was, all studly, burly and hangin' loose in his gym shorts over at a friend's Hollywood apartment. But Woody's pal, who was out at the moment, needed Drop-Hint to do a favor for him: As he was moving soon, would Woody be so kind as to show the pad to a potential renter?

Sure thing, bro, no prob!

Buzzz. Flop. Flop. Flop. FOT (Friend of Truth) hears Woody coming to answer the door, just off the Sunset Strip, obviously barefoot. The posh apartment door swings open and Woody's eyes laser right through FOT's humpy and chiseled bod like he's something up on some porno website.

Woody says, "Hey..."

FOT, taken aback by the double whammy of Drop-Hint's fame, as well as the eyeballs so busy undressing him, says, "Oh, hi! I'm here to look at the apartment!"

Woody: "Yeah, that all?

FOT: "All what?"

Woody: "You want to look at?"

FOT [Awkwardly grimacing]: "Yes...?"

Our intrepid and pretty pumped source then toured the apartment as best he could, despite Woody getting an erection beneath his unstrung gym shorts, fondling it and asking FOT if he didn't "want to stay a while?"

FOT, for some reason I'm not entirely not sure I understand, declined. But suffice it to say, he's probably happier with himself today because of it. Toothy Tile he's obviously not./

I have to get on here & sing Happy Birthday to Mrs. May 15, one day after my brother's, mrs., that's pretty cool. I hope you've had a great day in Oklahoma and able to celebrate with some family. That's wonderful. So, you're a Sooner Boomer Sooner. Norman, home of the Oklahoma Sooners. Home of Billy Tubbs, isn't it? Billy Tubbs, that lil' fireball.

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Mrs,
Happy Birthday to you....!!
and many moooooore...

What a day. Work was crazy, just crazy. We had trucks coming in & going out up the wazoo. It doesn't matter what holiday it is, we're always busy before a holiday. I don't know what it is, but when the forklift drivers whiz on by & don't even have time to say hi like they usually do, you know they are bustin' chops. 'Cept my lil buddy. She loads on the dock on R & F's. She's a very good loader & doesn't fool around on that forklift. She always looks really cute in her white hardhat, but don't tap on it, even jokingly. She doesn't like that & she'll get mad, lol. So I don't.

Very fun time at Johnny C's Pizza. I've never had theirs and it was really good, with thin, crisp crust. There were 10 of us with little "reserved " signs on the two tables, but they really didn't need it because it wasn't like a stampede there or anything, lol. We relived some of her class & test highlights and her first day of clinical. She tells a great story. Tomorrow is the ceremony of getting pinned and then Tuesday night, a bunch of us are going to the Royals game. It's Tuesday T-Shirt night. They have one once a month & I skipped last month because it was too chilly. April is too chilly to go to a ballgame (don't tell that to Tom & Special, tho!).

Practically have to take out a bank loan to go, tho. Geez. Tickets. Parking is like 11 or 12 dollars. They really ream you with the drinks, so I always take a bottled water with me. They'll let you take in your own food & a bottled water. Their garlic fries are excellent, tho. We have more fun talking & yukking it up during the game. Oh, & they have a Kiss Cam.

Little Dog's Mom's Stepdad (lol - it's hard when you can't say people's names on here) was talking tonight about getting on the computer and finding webcabs all over the world. He assembled together a farm by finding webcams in other countries. Hogs, sheep, chickens, etc. He said he found a webcam situated at some bar in Key West. You could just sit and watch it come to life from the time it opened its doors, listen to people talk, etc. And he said what's cool about it is that he watched it in the dead of winter and the people there would be in flip flops, shorts, etc. and it kind of took you away for a little bit. It felt like you were there. I'm going to have to check this stuff out sometime. I told him about DListed's puppycam, but I had no idea about all these other ones.

I just realized something terrible. I missed the entire 2 hr finale of Prison Break. I thought I'd get back in plenty of time to catch at least the end and see if Michael & Sara ended up together. I hope Mahoney didn't die. Does anyone else watch it? I reckon not, huh? If I hadn't stopped at Sonic to use my free Birthday Treat CremeSlush coupon because it expired today, I probably could've seen the last few minutes.

Well, time to hit the hay. Tuck in Libby & Barkley for the night and hope it doesn't rain all night or else they'll do their business on the floor. They have a doggie door, but if it's raining, Barky won't use it; he'll just go on the floor; luckily it's a tile floor where they're at.

PG - girl we have to get you to Fenway fast! Friend and I came out one year for opening day Sox vs. Royals, and she was so excited and couldn't believe parking (then was only $10) was so cheap. (I'm not telling you how much it is around Fenway - you have to see the signs for yourself) Sorry Fenway does not have a kiss cam,or the ketchup mustard relish race. We just have fans singing Sweet Caroline at the middle of the 8th.

And too chilly? Tom & I would agree,Royals fans just don't understand because they don't experience October baseball. : ) J/K

I did sit through a April Sox Royals game when the game time temp was 36 without the windchill,so I know it gets cold at the K.

Austin did have great chemistry with Izzy. Always I thought Austin brought his own experience with a lapful of lovin' to the movie. ; )

Beth Grant was perfect in her role of Mrs. Thatcher.

Happy Birthday wishes the the Mrs. Wicked.

I used to watch Prison Break all the time PG but they lost me on the last few seasons. Everything became so complicated. Let me know if Michael and Sara do get back together. They made a great couple.

Great pic of Gro Wicked. Reminds me of Zena - Warrior Princess. Man I was hooked on that show : )

I actually liked House of Usher. Austin did a really good job in making Rodrick sinister and intriguing at the same time. The way they used lighting in the film was interesting too. It was kind of like Alfred Hitchcock meets The Matrix.

Sorry - that should have read:

Hey Clarity! Good morning to you.
Slept in a bit this morning seeing's how I was up kind of late last night.

I found out some really sad news about Prison Break in my search last night on Google to get any details on it. In fact, it's tragic. I can't believe they killed off who they killed off! My mom & lil buddy at work both watch it so I know I can get all the details from them. But I found out who died in it; unbelievable. And also found out they're going to have a 2 hr movie on dvd on it, too. I really lost track of it this year, too. The last 2 years, it got so violent and I didn't like all the new thugs & white collar criminals they had on there. They were just ruthless and I liked it better when they were in prison.

Special, if you sat in 36 degrees at a ballgame, well, I don't know what to say to that. Are you sure you weren't next door at Arrowhead, lol?
It's usually sad to watch a Cubs home opener because it's almost always 40-some degrees and the people are sitting there in blankets, coats, mittens, holding steaming cups of coffee or cocoa. That's just not right!

I need to try & find a tomato plant or two for my dad this weekend. Just a couple to grow in containers on the porch where they're closer & easier to tend to. I checked them out @ Wal Mart couple days ago and I had no idea there were so many different kinds. Roma, grape, big something or other, I can't even remember all of them now. I will need to find out what kind I'm supposed to get; I just thought it'd be a no brainer. Tomato plants? Yeah, I'll take two. You have how many kinds?

What is it that about reeke that makes Jake look not sexy? Certainly Jake and Austin were sexy as hell together as were Jake and Heath. Maybe the only thing reeke has helped Jake with is the gay rumors at least for those who dont follow closely. reeke hasnt even made Jake look masculine if you ask me. There are so many more woman that Jake could have hooked up with.

I think I got it figured out though. Those other women wanted to date straight men. It is the only thing I can think of.

prairiegirl said...

You have the point there, I think, Tom. This is funny because I was on JustJared awhile ago, and there's that Giselle ....(I can't recall her last name, it's so long, but she's one of those gorgeous leggy models) and I thought, now you would think a young, hot star like Jake would be squiring around someone like that. He could have his pick of the lot.

So, you wonder why more people don't question things & contemplate. Because when you look at it that way, it's pretty transparent and you've hit the nail on the head.

I try not to overthink it, myself anymore, Tom. Alot of us see it as it really is, so no need to try & explain what isn't there.

We have these quiet weeks of no news & no pictures for a reason, I think. And it has nothing to do with what the rags are spinning in print.

I'm heading back to bed. Nice thing about dogsitting like this. There is no timetable sometimes, 'specially on a Saturday morning.
