The song playing has always reminded me of Jake and Austin during their down times. That volatile relationship that has so many ups and downs and yet there is something that keeps on pulling them back in. I hope Jake and Austin can stay together through the turbulence. I really do think they would recognize the feelings in this song. The song was written by Ian Curtis of Joy Division. This version is by Worm Is Green. Here are the lyrics-

I've always loved this song, except I remember the old version by the Joy Division.
NETB- oddly enough, the Joy Division version of this is my least favorite version. I love this song when it's sung by women. My absolute favorite version is by The Swans. I would have put that up but I only have it on vinyl and couldn't find it online anywhere.
I think those pix of Jake at Staples Center are new. They are dated 11/2 on IHJ. So he shaved! YES! You all don't know how happy that makes me. Jake should not have any beards in his life.

I haven't been able to load this new version of Love Will Tear Us Apart, I'm sure I'll love it too, and I'll have to listen to the one by The Swans. I love hearing new interpretations and arrangements of my favorite songs. I'm crazy about a version of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill (Deal with God) done by the English band Placebo - they used it in commercials for the Ken Burns' latest documentary War, and it's amazing how a different arrangement can change the entire meaning. Instead of being sounding like it's about two lovers wanting to change places and experience the other, it sounds like war drums and empathy for soldiers in battle as Ken tells the story. Very powerful. Sorry, I'm such a music geek, but I love it. lol

It could also be that in costuming tests, the beard didn't read well on screen. If he doesn't keep it trimmed close it has a tendency to round his out his face.

I agree with (thoughful tb) comments earlier in this thread. I do think that Jake is being hounded and it is effecting him. I don't like that. None of us know exactly what's going on for sure! I do think J/A were involved, but (I) happen to think that it is over know and I do hope they are still friends. Is this thought unreasonable. I mean people break up everyday. (especially HW celeb.)

I am not trying to help HW with it's old ways of the closet, but (IF) Jake and Goerge are gay/bi, they did not make the rules.
I do applaud NPH, Ellen, and others who are OUT, but remember most except Ellen and Rosie were about to be outed. Yes, I would love to see a masculine male actor who is proud of who he is and OUT in HW like some of the women. I whoever does this, I will applaud them.
I know some will not like this but I do think Jake and Reese are involved and I am a longtime tb and I think Jake is bisexual. To what extent their involvement is I don't know or wether it has legs to last. It could just be a fling. I lived a straight, then bi life for years, then fell in love with a man. It was very awkward but then exceptance sets in. It was not easy and I lied alot. When I came out to family and friends it was NOT at 26. Let's add some years to that. And If I had the eyes of the masses watching, hmmm let's just say I don't know what I would have done.

If you believe Ted, however, he was seen in a minor PDA sitch with Austin TWO weeks ago. If that is true then they're somehow still together, or still seeing each other at times. Ted is certainly pushing that idea.

I'm sorry if this is out of line, but I don't understand how anyone can seriously believe that he's with Reese! It's obvious that he isn't, regardless of the status of his relationship with Austin.
The whole thing has been ridiculous the whole way through - from the fact that we were told they were going to get together before Rendition starting filming to these pathetic, obviously set up PDA photos. If it's a real relationship why does he look so miserable and uncomfortable around her?
Plus I totally agree with Who's That you can't use the tabloids to promote your 'relationship' one day and then the next day complain about being hounded. Jake and Reese allowed themselves to be photographed at least 65 times in Rome and then allowed those photos to be sold exclusively to People magazine and allowed those ridiculous photos to be taken at LAX. Those are not the actions of two people who are trying to keep their 'relationship' private.
I think Ted has every right to say that it's all fake, because it is and he knows it!

It is nice to see Jake with no beard(beards). Maybe it is symbolic that those days are over. I sure hope so. That guy really does look like the guy from Borders. That is also a good sign.
Everyone is saying Jake looks unhappy or tired lately. I agree with both. I also think he looks a little tipsy. Hopefully he is just having a few beers to have some fun and relieve any stress he may be under.
I sure had a little meltdown Thursday. It was my day off from work so I had too much time on my hands that day. I wear my emotions on my sleeve and the last two weeks have been tough. I still love Jake but this all has been hard to take.
I am ready for some good football today. The battle of the mighty Pats and Colts should be great and I am hoping the Eagles can knock off those nasty cowboys tonight.

I've just done some comparing of this guy to the Borders shots and I'm about 90% sure it's one of Austin's friends. It's most striking in the shots of them coming out of the store, you can see this guy head-on. The way his chin turns up and the shape of his brow look very similar. I was also thinking about the guy who drove Jake when he came out of RDJ's son's gig. I'm going to go out on a wee limb and say he could very well be one of the other Borders friends, who was wearing glasses. I didn't think of him until I was looking at the Borders shots and then saw him; there was a bit of recognition there.

But the guy with Jake looks to me like the other friend, taller and thinner. Unless you are talking about a different pic.

I love that these guys have become good, mutual friends between Jake and Austin. They did strike me as friendly, easy-going and fun in the Borders shots, the kind of friends you want in your life. I don't doubt that they're there for J&A, too.

I may be in the minority, but to me it looked like Reese was comforting Jake in the beach video, the action you'd take when someone is upset. It made me wonder if Jkae and Austin had broken up, but from this mutual-friends and Ted's latest, this doesn't seem to be the case.
Jake's crossroads is right now - his handlers want him to go farther with the bearding, because then it will be impossible to back out of without exposing himself and others as liars. Jake seems to be resisting (a la his comment about an "honest answer"). Once they have him with a dishonest answer on record, they have him forever, or at least a very long time. It's like the mafia. If you are reading this, Jake, or someone who wishes Jake honestly well, not just $$$, keep your options open. Don't say you're not gay. Don't go on verbal record with a fake relationship. Once they've got you, they've got you. Look at Clooney. Look at Spacey. Look at John Travolta. Only one of those men is happy while bearding, and that is because he has kept his options open and continued the ambiguity. What's more, I think he (Clooney) might still come out.

I hate to be Debbie Downer and all but there was never any definite proof that the taller guy in the Borders pics was Austin's friend first.
The guy with the spectacles, sure. Cause he looked too much like a the guy in the pics when they were 17 dressed as Indians.
But the taller guy? We never knew for sure. And at the time, some people said he looked familiar. That they'd seen him before.
So if he was Jake's friend first or just works in HW in some way, him being with Jake now means nothing towards J&A.

Ag, I think that guy could be Austin's friend because shortly after this shot was taken, Austin was interviewed by someone who knew him and not only did this person ask him about breaking his leg the summer before (i.e. remember those sightings of Austin with crutches?) but he asked Austin about how he heard his life is becoming like "Entourage" with his buddies living with him. Austin said it's not quite like him but two of his old buddies were staying with him at the time. I always had a feeling it was those two guys who were with Austin and Jake at Border's. The timing just works.

Who'sthat- thanks for posting these side by side. I am admittedly not too good at analyzing pictures but I do think that is the same guy in both.
Definitely the normally bespectacled guy. You can see in the first picture that even if they were standing side by side, he'd be shorter than Jake.
Whereas the guy in the cap in the Borders pics is taller than Jake.
Good news. Maybe Jake would normally have taken Austin but because Austin has gone to Uruguay (we imagine) he thought he'd treat Austin's friend.
Just to clarify, it's the taller guy (light blue shirt, Red Sox(?) cap in Borders photo) that I'm saying is the same guy in the Staples Center photo and in the private photo with Austin. All the same guy; I'm still 100% convinced. The clincher for me was looking at the photo of him and Austin alone - look at his friend's ear, the top part of it, and then compare it to the one of him in the car.

I need to look at the photos and particularly the video we have. I'm intrigued now, Tom; we could have a two-fer here. :)

The guy with Jake could be the taller guy in the pics with at Border, as I said ealier. To me he looks nothing like the spectacled shorter guy, the one pin the pics with Austin when they were 17 or so, and also in the very recent pic of Austin and him looking out at some scenery from a mountain or something.

This is so fascinating! I'm 95 % sure it's NOT the same guy. I don't really see the resemblance. Sure, they have similiar style, but the guy with Jake looks much older with grey in his hair and bad skin. Austin's roommate is the same age as Austin.
But I'm happy if I'm wrong about this. I'm just fascinated how we can see things so differently.

I agree with hijulia. The guy with Jake in the Friday shots is clearly older than Jake and not the same one in the bookstore.
When I very first saw the Borders pics way back in May, I thought the other two guys were a couple. If they are, then it's true that couples begin to look alike, because everyone's having a hard time telling them apart!!!
No one has ever said this (that I know of), but I'll bring it up. Those Borders pics, to me, seem like two couples going to the mall bookstore after seeing a movie. Because that's what I always do after seeing a movie in a mall, walk over to the bookstore and look around (they always have latenight bookstores located near theatres in the malls and its no coincidence). Nerds (like Jake....and me) and other people not quite ready to go home do things like that, go look at books and magazines. And in case anyone forgot, that night was the opening for Spiderman in LA.
Anyway, I think it was the darker guy without the hat in Borders that was the Clipper guy driving the car. Look at the hairline, the lips, eyes, ear. Forget weight, that can change as anyone knows, same with glasses. Look at the features.

The Clipper driver is the same guy in Borders, the one wearing glasses without a hat. In the photos from a few days ago, he's lost weight, he's clean shaven, he's wearing a button-down shirt. He looks totally straight. As opposed to Borders...

And I might add, the guy looks very nice, just a regular dude who likes basketball and golf (see the Borders pic where he's teeing off, pretty mean grip!). The guy in the blue has flatter features in the lateral nose to chin area. Don't you see the lip/chin curves, too? Don't go by size of the sideburns, that changes. And look at the nose dips, blue shirt has hardly any. I give up, anyone else want to comment?

la person, you've made some good pointers for making this comparison a done deal (imo). All I can add is that one needs to look at the photo of the friend where he is closest to the camera in the car driving (Staples shot) and the picture on AustinMedia of him and Austin arm in arm. Look at the top of his ear in each case, it's quite big and flat. You'll see it quite clearly in both pictures. That really sealed it for me.

I think Ted writes the column but as all journalists, he isn't in charge of the edition of the page, including the featured celebs links. So someone else does that part, may be a clueless editor.

I agree, Same guy. Just a little weight gain. That's what I looked at, chin, lips, shaven beard hairline, eyes. 5 to 10lbs can change one's looks (puffyness)and age you also. Although he's not overweight.

Sorry, I liked Jakes beard. Made him so manly looking as long as it was neat. The picture of him walking from the restaraunt with his PA with his hands in pockets were awesome. I also think he looks nice with 5 oclock shadow. \
What's with you people and this beard thing? If he wants to give a different look at times with beard (not Reese) he CAN. Hell, Women do it all the time. (wigs, makeup, extensions) He looks much better with facial hair than clean shaven. I think he would agree with me since he always try to keep some hair on his face. I know I'm late to the party, but I agree that "Mike" and the Staples guy are the same. Good catch to whoever first noticed that. Maybe Austin and "Alex" were there too and they left separately (if I recall right, wasn't Austin arriving in Uruguay around the 5th???). And if not, it still make me happy to see them together. For anyone who is a fan of Joy Division, I highly recommend the Ian Curtis biopic "Control". Not your typical biopic, and it looks great. I like the version of the song you have playing, but for me Joy Divisions' version can't be beat.

With all due to the anti-beard brigade (because I love you all), I'm crazy for Jake's facial hair and however he wants to wear it (I do like to see a full beard on him somewhat tidy, though). I think it suits him so much and puts his already effortless sexiness off the dial. I've always loved facial hair on men but it really depends on the guy, too. I like the light, 5 o' clock shadow look on Jake best. The shots (and video) of him when he was dining with Peter were my very favourite look on him. Casual but stylish clothes and perfect kill-me-now stubble.

Uhh? Did I ever say Jake should stay with one image? I just don't like him with the beard, I like his mouth and the little mole on his face they get covered up by the beard. Plus I am not a big fan of the lumberjack style, I know Christmas is coming but I rather see Jake in a different Santa 'uniform' :-)
Shaven head a-la Jarhead? O yeah, bring it on! Longer hair like in Rendition? That's fine too! Different clothing style? Go for it Jake I love you in those tailored suites but you can get a different style if you like.
destiny, my sister recently saw "Control" and she said it was excellent, too. She's a huge Joy Division/New Order fan. I agree the original of Love Will Tear Us Apart is unsurpassable, although I was partial to Paul Yong's version back in the day. ;)

Forgot to say I am not against facial hair in general, juts think Jake looks better without. In fact I like Austin with facial hair I think some of my fav pics are the 'for rent' ones.

Wicked, even though I don't mind the stubble, I wasn't liking the latest beard so I'm happy to see it go. It will be intereresting to see if it is tied to the other beard.
I am partial to him with facial hair, and I love 5-o'clock shadow and stubble, but I'm happy to see Jake's clean-shaven face every now and then too. He is incredible looking IMO, and I like that he can change his look from time to time and still look great. He's a man can carry off facial hair really, really well.

I'm comparing the pictures with the taller guy, of course! The shorter one is the same guy who's in the picture with Austin where they're teenagers and dressed up as ... whatever it was.
Both guys are from Austin and are old HS-friends of Austin's and are his roommates in LA. But I'm feeling rather alone (but not less sure) in my convinction that the guy with Jake is not one of them so that's the last I'll say about that. :)
Just checked imdb and it says Brothers principal photography starts 11/27. I think that date is pushed back from prior entry. Jake looks OK with a beard (a literal one) but his most recent haircut and the heavy beard combined were just not that flattering to his face. With poor results for Rendition, I'm hoping they've decided he has to look gorgeous in his next pic.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel are attached to star in the risque political satire "Nailed." David O. Russell is attached to direct and co-write the screenplay with Al Gore's daughter, Kristin Gore.
Biel would play Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward small-town receptionist who has a nail accidentally shot into her head by a clumsy workman, eliciting wild sexual urges.
The uninsured Joyce goes on a crusade to Washington to fight for the rights of the bizarrely injured. She meets an immoral congressman (Gyllenhaal) who takes advantage of her sex drive and capitalizes on her crusade as Joyce heads into her own career in politics.
Red Wagon Entertainment ("Jarhead") and Persistent Entertainment ("Southland Tales") are slated to produce the project. Preproduction is set to begin in two weeks, aiming for a January start date for principal photography.
Neither star has a signed contract for the film, which is being presold by IM Global at the American Film Market. Their commitment could depend on juggling other features: Gyllenhaal recently was set to star in Doug Liman's untitled Moon project for DreamWorks and Jim Sheridan's "Brothers" with Tobey Maguire for Relativity Media. Biel is slated to star in and produce the crime thriller "Die a Little" for United Artists.
Reps for IM Global and CAA, which handles both stars, did not comment.
Russell is no stranger to politics. He started as an 1980s political activist before directing the prescient Gulf War drama "Three Kings."In the spring, he was adapting and attached to direct a feature version of Gore's autobiographical Washington-based novel, "Sammy's Hill," for Columbia Pictures and Red Wagon.

Here’s how you know when Hollywood has really run out of ideas: They’ve started stealing the plots of porn movies. At least that’s the only explanation I can come up with to cover David O. Russell’s next project.
The movie is something called Nailed, which Russell co-wrote with Al Gore’s daughter and will direct himself. HR says it stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal and here’s what it’s about… I’m going to quote them directly, because HR’s plot description is just that unbelievable: “Biel would play Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward small-town receptionist who has a nail accidentally shot into her head by a clumsy workman, eliciting wild sexual urges.” I’ve seen this movie before, usually on Showtime, late at night. It was good, but for some reason none of the women ever wore tops.
Lest you think this is just your run-of-the-mill softcore porno written by a former Vice President’s daughter, they’ve mixed in some political mumbo jumbo. Apparently Joyce takes her super-horniness to Washington in order to fight for the rights of the bizarrely injured. There, she meets an immoral congressman played by Gyllenhaal and screws him, and then uses her screwing him to benefit her crusade and start a career in politics. It was either that or porn. Politics was probably the better choice, though the difference between the two is rather minimal.
Side note: Jake Gyllenhaal is now officially the luckiest dude on the planet. I would literally be willing to sleep with Heath Ledger if it meant being able to play his role in this movie. Perhaps that was his plan all along.
I also want to go on record as saying that this will be the best movie of the year, whichever year it ends up getting released in. It’s also fairly realistic. Just imagine all the good Jessica Biel could accomplish in the world if she ever actually unleashed her out of control libido. Her hotness has already fooled the world into thinking she’s a great actor, she should take it a step further and go into politics. Why not negotiate Osama’s surrender or use it to reduce the national debt? Success is inevitable. She’s irresistible. "

Wow that guy looks like a mixture of the two Borders guys. Maybe they amalgamated to become one person.
Seriously, I can see why HJulia thinks he looks too old but I really think that is the camera angle. If you look just at that guy's face, he looks like someone in their late twenties.
Still couldn't tell you if it was any of the Borders guys though. It would be nice if it was - and anyone who isn't PR related is a nice change.
Maybe some more photos will come out and we'll get to see a better angle.
I don't know if it has any effect on the filming for Brothers (and for Jake's parents) but the HW writers just went on strike.
Hate to sound negative but Nailed sounds like a terrible movie idea. I hope the script is (a lot) better than the blurb. Also I have no idea why Jessica Biel is considered so fantastic and worth marketing. To me she just doesn't have "it".
About Mike and Alex: I think the Clippers guy is Borders Mike although he looks older and his hair darker in the new pics. The profile pictures look really similar but who knows. I hope it was him. Love the names ;)
About the Mario Testino pictures (WDaW): The pictures of Kirsten made me remember how much I liked her when she making a lot of movies and was still with Jake. It seems like she's not the hottest actress around anymore and I wonder if these examples (that things can change fast in HW) affect Jake's career decisions. Just a thought. I'll have to watch Virgin Suicides and Mona Lisa Smile again now.
I agree, Hopeful, Nailed sounds awful. Maybe it will turn out better than it sounds.
