Finally got the x17 "romantic dinner" video to play. As I was watching it, I wondered why it took 2 days for that video to hit x17. The pics came out on Sat and were taken on Fri, right? So the video also would have been taken on Fri. Why the delay? The only thing I can think of is that the video is very poor quality (dark) and it is hard to see anything.
I noticed that Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are behaving similar to Reeke in their approach to the media. They must have a similar arrangement (of course in a lower level of the Hollywood ladder).
They both have projects to promote and suddenly they were ‘caught’ by photographers on a beach showing PDA, then ‘caught’ in cars and leaving their houses hiding and acting like they don’t want to be photographed and now the ‘romantic’ dinner at Madeo's!

I don't know what to make of that video. There's too much of a push for this relationship, for one thing. It starts out ok, with Jake moving in closer, saying something intimately to Reese - then, he abruptly makes a dramatic motion, bringing his hands up to his forhead, looking irritated, gets up and walks to the front of the restaurant,(in response to paps amassing out front?) Reese looks very stiff and uncomfortable, and looks out the window quite a bit - in response to paps? I imagine it would be quite uncomfortable and intrusive; but then, you've gotta wonder why a couple with their clout didn't ask for a more private table? Hmmmm . . .
I am not familiar with Tom Brady (American football player, i take it?), but that picture, he can be Austin's older brother.

I very much want to know what you all think of this. Here's a report that Jake and Reese went to the Catholic church she regularly attends, together. No pics or anything, though. Website that posted it isn't buying it. This is a very curious report to me. Jake has said he's a Buddhist, right?
His dad is Swedenborgian (Christian) and his mom's Jewish. It sounds that he was raised with both faiths. But he has said he follows a Buddhism, but I don't know if he is a practicing Buddhist.
Wicked, that was towards the beginning of the video, a lot of it is very dark. It does tend to focus on Reese a lot, more than Jake. The last I read (somewhere) was that Jake was a "mindful" Buddhist, which I interpret to mean that, while he may not be a practicing Buddhist, he is guided in life by Buddhist concepts.

Spesh, Jake has said he "practices mindfulness," one of the steps of Buddhism's 8-fold path, and he meditates regularly. I think his connection to Buddhism otherwise is mostly from his focus on eastern religions at Columbia U (that was his major while he was there).

And I agree Wicked, I can hardly make out a thing in that video, except to note that they sure didn't look like they were talking, nor did they have that intimate, we don't need to talk look about them either. I also think they waited to post the video just so they could drag this out. And I'll say it again, they chose a restaurant where it would be easy for paps to photograph, and they sat near the window. Do we really think Jake and Reese couldn't get a table in the much nicer, larger, window-free section of the restaurant?
Re the sighting at a catholic church, maybe they want to start some wedding rumours.. the whole Reeke deal seems to want to portray that Reese is a decent woman who cares about family value and her kids, but still able to attract a hot guy... as for Jake, well, we all kind of suspect what's the purpose.

Persistent, the small blurb I read wasn't that specific, and seemed to imply that he was not a practicing Buddhist. but was mindful. I don't think you follow just one. I wish I could find it. If he is, something tells me he took a wrong turn on that path as of late. ;(
The photo of Jake and Reese smiling at each other was shown on E! last night. The comment was something to the effect that they seemed to be going more public with their relationship or that maybe they were just carpooling together to help save the environment. Maybe they were headed to SF for a reason. ;)
Last year the woman that runs Heath's fan site mentioned that she ran into Jake and his father at Church one Sunday morning at Mass. She posted it on DC. Some were surprised since neither Jake nor his father is Catholic, but there was no reason for her to make it up.

I think faith is good in whatever you can find your faith to enrich and sustain you. Everyone needs to believe in something.
But to use a place of worship to better your image or legitimize your so called relationship -- uh huh, that's wrong. Be it a politician or entertainer. You reap what you sow.
haha, i go to Greek Orthodox church with my hubby's family and I go to buddhist temple with my own family... and I myself don't believe in any religion. so, it doesn't necessarily reflect on one's belief.

Gah! I dont' even go to a physical church, if I want to be spiritual or think of God, I go to the mountains or the beach, or get back to nature,or there's a very spriritual person I know, who I may start attending with her. My beliefs are a mixture of the Protestant faith I was raised in, Hinduism, and Buddhism, and Native American concepts. Organized religion is a man-made phenomenon, and has nothing to do with God and spirituality, IMO.

I agree, Experience. I think the issue here is more that people are looking at this and thinking it's a PR tactic, rather than a desire to experience another faith. I hope you're right if the sighting is true that Jake just wanted to go to church with a friend.
^^I agree, it's a good thing to experience other faiths. I think Judaism is a beautiful religion too, what little I know of it through friends. I've always been interested in religion and spirituality.
One thing that bothers me about organized religion is that more wars have been started and more people killed in the name of religion than anything other than fighting for land, and even that overlaps with religion. Who's right, who's wrong, and so much hypocrisy. It's contrary to all religious teachings.
Sadly I think anything Jake and Reese do together will be seen as PR tactic before anything else. Because that is how it has played out, even if they are friends, there's a stigma now. And is not because of the public, but how they have conducted their relationship publicly.
Even though I am Jewish, I am very much a spiritual person. I don't agree with a lot of organized religion, including my own. I don't like religious dogma. That being said, I am willing to understand what others get out of their religion. That was my point about Jake supposedly going to Church with Reese.

Beautifully said, Special. I did this with my church as a child too, and it inspired a life-long love and interest in spiritual things. This kind of thing fosters great understanding among people. I see the similarities in beliefs, not the differences. I don't follow dogma blindly either, tho. Using it as a PR tactic is abhorrent to me. It also is a very important step if you are considering spending your life with someone, gaining an understanding of each other's beliefs, it's beautiful. I better get back to work! ;)

It is true that faith is being used as a PR tactic. I'm not saying Jake or Reese is doing this, just that it is done, and is something to watch. It's odd that the InTouch mention does not include a date or a picture or any other remotely verifiable detail. Just quotes from "insiders." That makes me wonder if PR supplied that little story.
I have to agree this sounds more like PR shenanigans. It brings to mind some of the talk back around Easter when people pointed out that Jake went to brunch with his parents while Reese went to church with her kids.

Re: the church thing, as far as I'm aware the Catholic Church doesn't allow re-marriage for divorcees, especially not non-Catholics and i'm assuming that Reese got a divorce and not an annulment. Also non-Catholics can attend mass but can't actually take part.

That picture was taken five months ago when Jake was in Paris, look at the comments and the description. Whoever is sitting across from him looks small and looks like they are wearing a white hoodie. The blue "beanie" could be a hat. It was probably taken when he was at Cannes and was spotted in Paris.

I looked at that picture at its original size (huge), and all I can gather is that the person is wearing some sort of blue hat, looks to have short dark hair, appears to be looking to their left and *looks* to be male. They're also either smaller and/or shorter than Jake or slouched in their seat. That's all I got. :)

The blue hat almost looks like a fisherman's type hat to me . The person is wearing a white hoodie. You can't tell a persons age by looking at a picture with their backs turned, but they appear shrter/smaller than him. Actually that picture is too blurry to figure the gender of the person. I don't see big shoulders , i see a person that appears smaller than Jake, the "big shoulders" you are looking at is a part of the hood. They are sitting outside and the glare of the sun makes it look like the left side of their head is "white" and the other "dark, it also looks like they are wearing white pants but that may be the sun also. And yes it appears to be a bucket hat, you can see the dent around the end.
The reason why I remember the date 5/19 is because it was a few days after Cannes, 5/16-5/17. He didn't stay around. 5/19 was a Saturday and the girl posted the sighting on Sunday I think. A few days later someone took a picture of Jake sleeping on the eurotrain on 5/22, from Paris to London.

I can now also see that it's probably a big sun sploch on the person's left-hand side, rather than their face turning that way. The more that I look at it (close up and from a distance), the more it looks like the person is facing Jake or looking down while eating etc. I agree the person looks a little too broad to be female but there's a lot of blur and sun.
There is something written on the restaurant window that partially covers up the hat. The person looks like looking down probably on his food and there is a patch of sun on the left hand side.
What, and Jake's behaviour as of late with bearding means he wouldn't have stooped to behaving beardily in Paris on that trip? I put nothing past Jake and Reese and their advisors now. That is how low the "three" of them have fallen in my estimation.
Compare the pic with the one at borders where we see Jake and Austin from the back looking at something. I say the silouette is remarkably similar and the angle too. But there is no way to tell who the person in Paris is for sure.

i am not saying they are fake... but all these deleted and two-month-old-only obscure blogs reporting "civilian casually bumping into Reeke" and swiftly reported to jake blogs.... sounds kind of fishy to me.
They were on ET (or one of those programs), looking more smiley and happy, snuggling and holding hands and looking a little less like they were on the way to the gallows this time. A one-night only performance tho. ;)
Once you blow up the picture to original size it becomes clear that the figure opposite Jake is male, dark-haired, and looking to his left (as someone said above). I also sharpened the picture and this became even more clear.
The man is either smaller than Jake or slouching, as tall men often do.
OT: Here are shots of Ryan with his kids at LAX yesterday. Very sweet shots but also kind of sad because in one of them the little girl is holding a sweater to her face to cover it (from the photographer). I like how he carries them both. I think what makes it significant is the amount of effort being put into trying to demonstrate the person with Jake (supposedly, since like you I must say I cannot really tell it is him for sure) is NOT Austin but COULD definitely be Reese.
On ET, Jake still didn't seem deliriously happy, but happier than in recent pictures. Reese seemed much more happy looking. In the last one they showed, he looked almost sheepish. He may not have given that impression, but PR certainly seems to wants to foist that stepfather image on the public. I hope that the unique fan base isn't being given the heave-ho in favor of the minivan majority. :(

I've got the feeling this mention on ET or Access Hollywood or whatever it was will make the impression they are looking for. I'm not 100% convinced by it, but I think it will be good enough - it was an announcement on national television that they spent the night together, and seemed very affectionate with each other during their overnight trip to the Wine Country, hand holding and cuddling, sort of. Nothing like bed head pics tho - ya can't fake that. ;) I'm not very high on Hollywood lately. :(
I'm terribly late I know but I wanted to thank Wicked's Missus for a very hearty laugh. I've actually uttered the line "Jeese is bullshit" ("Jeese, c'est de la merde!") during a recent family outing and to my surprise most people agreed with me. :)
I'm sure there is some online monitoring by PR teams. How could they ignore the Web when a recent study showed that 79% of adults are now online, up from 77% in 2006?
I wonder how publicists will determine if Jeese is efficient and if the ROI is worth all the efforts. There must be quantifiable factors they take into account – importance of press/TV coverage? Number of pro vs. anti comments on blogs and Web sites? Or simply the reactions of TPTB, who's placating was probably the prime objective anyway?

You know the really odd thing about the 'separate bedrooms' factoid? It's not just that they even have separate bedrooms, which is highly unusual in a romantic getaway for two people who, presumably, can't keep their hands off of each other.
No, the strange thing is that this piece of information leaked out at all.
Who is controlling the spin-operation? And is this church visit reference supposed to suggest that Jake and Reese are a good, clean christian couple who think it unseemly to share a bedroom during vacations? As bits and pieces of this relationship leak out of the press, what we see is a friendship, not a romance.
It's almost as if they can no longer muster the energy to stage everyday pda's anymore. The pda, which is considered irrefutable proof of a romantic heterosexual relationship by people who don't know how affectionate gay men and straight women can be with each other, is a constant burden for these two. They could muster the energy to do it in Rome, but since they've been back in the United States, the pickings have been slim. Lot's of photographs and videos, lots of anonymous reports of canoodling, touching and wide-eyed smitten looks, but very few photographs and videos of sustained, genuine, reciprocal pda.
The Jeesers will undoubtably attribute the absence of any photographs or pictures even remotely as romantic-looking as the Rome pictures to the couples desire for privacy. But Reese and Jake are seen all over the place. We've been inundated with videos and photos. We just haven't been inundated with pda. They are *not* seeking privacy.
Sometimes, Reese looks like the ever-patient big sister, listening to her little brother blather on about some problem or issue that she dealt with a long time ago. When Jake had that full beard during the Rendition promos, he looked older and distinguished, a more suitable, mature partner, and substitute father-figure, for super-respectable Reese and her kids. But now he just looks like her scruffy, little brother. At other times, Jake looks like a world-weary, but generally cheerful, professional escort, chaperoning a rich, older lady around town. In both cases, they just look like two buddies who really enjoy each other's company. And Jake, in particular, really needs good buddies right now.
Maybe the trip to Napa, or the vacation in Hawaii will inspire the same kind of staged PDA that we saw in Rome. Maybe they need a romantic setting to be publicly affectionate. I can almost see the train coming down the tracks.
But the truth of this relationship lies in their everyday interactions, not the scripted getaways. In everyday life, they're like two people forced to perform the same parts over and over again in a well-known play. They know the roles, they know the script, they know when the audience will applaud, they know where the most important critics are sitting, they know how long the play must run in order to be profitable, and most importantly, they know that potential investors are watching.
And so it goes, night after night, dinner after dinner, car ride after car ride, party after party, and they leave the tedious task of spicing things up to their pr flacks. If you click your heels three times, and cock your head just so, you can almost convince yourself that life is imitating art. But then the curtain falls and the lights go up, and what are we left with? Separate bedrooms.
The show must go on.
Observer.. although I certainly can't say it so eloquently, I totally agree. Looking at Reeke, you have to say that these two are actors, and I'm sure they both see it as an acting job, its as if they've pencilled in October / November 2007 for Reeke the movie. I think before Rome they had been given (accurate) projections of how Rendition would do and realised that it was not going to be the vehicle to propel Jake on to the A-list or reestablish Reese's position there. The fact that after only three weeks release it has almost completely dropped out of sight confirms this. They therefore need Reeke to keep them in the public eye, especially since neither has another film coming out anytime soon so they have to try to keep up a buzz somehow.
This may be delusional to explain something i didn't want to see, who knows?
Good points observer. Ted, or someone in the bus, I cant recall who now, said to expect this to go on until awards season is over in Feb. So far no indication Rendition will generate any award noms but who knows.
Some claimed J&R stayed "inside" their rental house all day Sunday, but PR got the story so jumbled, they were also reportedly seen at church, several restaurants and bakeries in Berkeley, SF and the wine country all in the space of about 24 hrs. As a long time resident of the SF Bay area, I can say they spent more time in their car going from place to place then they probably spent in the 2 bedroom inn.
Personally, I have been creeped out by the fact that Reese is older than Maggie, but kept my mouth shut. But you mentoned his sister so I am saying it.
I can't wait till friday - just to see Austin again, even if it is just a glimpse.

m.. it does seem funny that they seemed to spend alot of time going from spot to spot, looking for the best photo location anyone? Surely the point of going to a romantic hideaway is to be romantic and hideaway.
Do I understand correctly that there is a new set of pictures coming up in Us Weekly from San Francisco? (I just woke up and browsed the comments). Don't their PR realise how obviously staged Reeke already looks and a new "secret" PDA tour is on the way. How can anyone believe these two are for real?

Yes, I agree observer, you have very good points. And M, I totally agree about the traveling in SF, the Wine area, etc. Especially since it sounds like they flew into SF, drove out to the resort, spent one night and then drove back to SF? More like a PR exposure tour, the City and Rural version. Or it could be that they were checking out a location for a film, something business related. But a relaxing romantic weekend? No way.
And thanks for the link, new pics. I saw them, and they look just like the Rome ones, walking with arms around each other. But in these they're smiling and laughing, which is weird, a 180 degree turnaround from the last month-full of daily sour-faced sightings. Who knows, maybe for this foray he had to get cranked up on Ecstasy to help get thru any major make-out pda requirements.
Oh and Jake is wearing that same longsleeved blue tee shirt with the wide/worn out/stretched out neck. It also looks like reese has another huge purse with her. And how cute, they're wearing his & hers matching pairs of aviator sunglasses. *throws up a little*

what we see is a friendship, not a romance.
My issue with this is that Jake, Reese, and TPTB want us to think this is a romance. It's hilarious that someone posted a "warning" at WFT that we would be seeing this getaway, complete with pics. That only makes it look more fake, not less so. The whole outing was planned down to the making sure that it was photographed. And of course it would have to be. If there are no pics, it's a waste. Even if you believe this couple is real, I don't see how you can deny they want to be seen together and are using this relationship for PR.
I reckon concentrating on some real acting work would be good for these two "lovebirds", so I went to check when Reese will start filming her next film "Four Christmas", it's 5th Dec.... with shooting of Brothers commencing soon too, i hope Evelyn O'Neil and PR gang will give us a break.
And friends of OMG, please don't say they don't look real anymore - don't give them anymore reason to go overboard with the PDA! :P

I don't recall reading that Jake and Reese were in seperate bedrooms for the weekend, Ok said that they checked in Sunday into a room and stayed there pretty much all day. The blogger spoted them at dinner Sunday night and breakfast Monday morning. Supposedly they arrived Saturday night. And the church sighting has nothing to do with this weekend, that was supposedly another sighting, no date given.
Bored, it's out there - there are fewer places to read, and less to read, because even a lot of JiSers aren't enjoying all this very much. Might even be on this thread somewhere.

Even in my moments where I think Jeese is real I do wonder what the hell is going on with this Jake and Reese Show? All the PR and videos just make it look less real, not more. Why is it necessary for a genuine couple.
In my more cynical times I'm wondering if they're trying to ensure more "romantic" Jeese pix exist than Jaustin pix. Then everyone concerned can quietly slip away and get on with their lives.

You know what, consider this: why would someone have to make an announcement on national TV that they slept with a woman if not to quash gay rumors? That's what it sounded like to me. "Jake and Reese's overnighter" in a spotlight. It has zero romance. Blech. You're right, Max, the more they push it, the less real it looks.
I tend to give most couples accused of bearding the benefit of the doubt - even our Toothy. I do believe it does happen, though, when I look at TC and Katie Holmes. I've never seen a picture of them where Tom isn't gripping her hand as if he's trying to stop Katie running away.
Reese looks happier with the whole thing. Jake looks like he's getting used to it - the bearding or the pap attention I couldn't tell you. But since they seem to be actually inviting the paps why would he be so distressed by that? I know what Ted's opinion is......
I thought this was nice in the beginning when I first started hearing rumblings of this pairing; if her were straight after all, they seemed like they'd make a cute couple, at least on paper. But just seeing how phoney it looks just completely turns me off. Plus, all I see is dishonesty when I look at both of them, she lied to the public and he's a fraud. Spesh was right when she said the relationship got off to a tainted start because of the dishonest way they handled it. I don't think it's to protect children, it's to protect themselves and their careers, as drive all over LA in an expensive gas guzzler. I'm going to spend my hard-earned cash on movies that have actors with integrity in them, like Leo DiCaprio or something. :)

I agree but not to forget Jake and Austin in New York may have pushed the Reeke forward.

I watched the restaurant vid and Reese's staring down of the watchers makes it look so fake! It's not like she's unused to attention, they are supposed to be a public couple and they are eating at Photo-Op Central. Do they think we were born yesterday?

I am here because I like Jake (and Austin) as actors and people. I may not agree with everything they do but I do support their careers and movies.
