Gold Mine

Monday night is date night for Julian and Brooke.
Now Julian has that snarky smooth charm with a touch of self deprecation thing down pat when flirting with the ladies. They hate him a little, smile a little more and then get totally charmed by him.

The question is art imitating life with Julian's wooing ways? You think this is Austin's m.o.?

But the twain may meet there. While Austin is a serious flirt - it looks like he's more a long term kind of guy than serial dater. But that's not to say that he doesn't have a serious woo game. Now you think he got woo'd himself a little bit?

Of course last night was the Golden Globes. Heath was honored for his incredible work in in The Dark Knight, and in a way for his whole body of work as an actor, receiving the Golden Globe for Best Support Actor. Austin's Informers' co-star Mickey Rourke was the comeback miracle of the night with his win as Best Actor.

And Jake? Jake came out as his handsome self to introduce David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. Dashing and dapper with a touch of scruff, Jake again makes a tux look even better, complete with the perfect pocket square. But he was doing something a little different than he's done in a while. A vest. Why would someone with abs all mighty cover them with vest? Think he is falling under some "vested interest"?

Have to say it looks like Jake's HW star not shining so bright. Audience reaction wasn't great, the star aura of confidence in 2009 compared to 2006 and 2007 GGs considerably less. And no one asked or talked about RW in any GG coverage. Get the strong vibe she isn't liked. Respected for her cobra pr instincts yes but not liked or admired and def not missed. Jake and RW shot themselves in the foot with Reeke and the gangrene is starting to show.

Anonymous said...

Audience wasn't listening to anybody last night too busy getting drunk and talking.

Anonymous said...

It did look like he was being a little bit ignored. Maybe he should have tried Ricky Jervais's technique and asked them all to quieten down.

Also, he's definately sporting a forward fringe comb over. Must be why he's been wearing the hats to cover the bald patch caused by the removal of the extensions.

Anonymous said...

Jake looked good, but he didn't seem very confident, charming or sexy; he was missing all those qualities that say "star". It is a bit worrisome that the negative qualities we see with reeke seem to be leaking over into other parts of his life.

removal of the extensions = haircut

You know what I am not looking at the negative.

1)He came by himself
2)The man still looks damn good in a tux, damn good.
3)Didn't give one damn peep to sell the Reeke

and best of all
4) All about the BF Sweater. He was out in clearly what is his man's sweater. And I actually think its the one the "mystery man" wore under his jacket at the farmer's market recently.

Just read MK's live blog of the GGs. Priceless. I'm glad Heath won and he deserved it. I just saw Tropic Thunder, and both RDJ and Cruise are utterly hilarious in it. I couldn't believe I was actually watching Tom Cruise as that character. He did a fantastic job.

Anonymous said...

Jake stole my gray sweater vest!

Anonymous said...

The sweater Jake is wearing is a v-neck sweater, mystery m sweater doesn't appear to have buttons, it looks like a zipper from the part that is peeking from the jacket. It also looks like it has a hood and if it is a zipper then it's zipped up to the point where you can see either the zipper, there is what looks like a catch or wooden button or maybe it's a spec, but either way you can see the graysweater on top, something you wouldn't see if it was a v-neck.

I don't see a hood on Jake's v-neck sweater.

As much as I dislike T. Cruise, he was a class act last night.

There were lots of positives Special, no doubt about it, and I don't mean to take away from that. Just concerned that even with all those positives that jake, imo, seemed like he was just going through the motions. Will anyone notice or care? Probably not, but they probably won't be talking about him either.

Totally agree eyes about cruise. On the other hand, I am glad to see jake still has enough pride and dignity to be bothered by what he is doing, unlike tom.

Wow, Austin looks great with a little scruff in that first pic with Sophia, and nice shoulders. Is he on tonight? I'll have to watch. Jake still can rock a tux, it appears. I'll have to check out this sweater you all are talking about. :)

Jake drives a Prius? I have one, and I have never noticed anything different about its pickup from a regular car, it's pretty good, actually. It's just that when you are stopped or in lower speeds, it goes into electric mode and the engine shuts down, which took some getting used to at first, but I love mine and will buy another when the time comes.

I am so glad to hear that Heath
won. He really was exceptional and
there will never be another one like him. I also cannot wait to see Benjamin Button.

Me too, Kacie. What a great song today as well, after a wonderfull Golden Globes night. I feel like I can let got of all of this angst I've had about Heath now after listening to Chris Nolan last night - I just wanted to see him get the recognition and respect he deserves for his work, and not be forgotten, but he will never be forgotten.

I was happy to see that Wall-E also won for Best Animated Film, it truly deserved it, and I always love Bruce Springsteen. I thought Tom was a class act last night too, and Demi. So many movies still to see. On to the Academy Awards! :)

On a fun note, me and my hub are planning a vacay for next year, so we were thumbing through brochures for Alaska, the Rockies, etc. I looked over at him one night when we were discussing how much we loved Slumdog Millionaire, and I said "Wanna go to India?" (he's already been). He shrugged and said, "OK". I've wanted to go for 100 years at least, and I wasn't able to go with him last time.

So, if if it looks like it's safe to go, we're planning to go to North India - New Delhi/Delhi, Taj Mahal at Agra, and Varanassi. Yay!

Happy Monday guys - and congrats to Wicked and Tom on the Eagles' win!

Well after a night to chew it over, the best thing I can say about Jake's presentation is that it was dull. He showed no personality or star power. Ted was obviously there as he mentions interviews he did while there. Did Ted being there rattle Jake? I did not watch the whole show, just a few clips, so I cant assess how the crowd reacted to Jake versus anyone else. It did not seem that they quieted down for him nor was the applause he got particularly enthusiastic.

Loving the extra long sweater. Who in the world has such a long torso but Austin.

Looks like Jake was running late:

"We packed up our stuff, took a few more pictures in front of the Golden Globe banners and headed out around the side of the building while the stars headed in. We were exhausted from screaming and acting like teenagers.

Then unexpectedly, yet another brush with fame. Suddenly the limo carrying the very-late Jake Gyllenhaal drove past, and proved you don't need to be in the special VIP seats to spot a celeb in Beverly Hills."

And it seems to be the same one's searching and seeking to keep it going. Maybe he feels stalked and worried about crazy fans these days thats got him on edge. If the man is gay and bearding SO WHAT. Bishop Gene Robinson, has been asked to give a prayer at one of President-elect Barack Obama's first inauguration events at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Concord Monitor

Robinson, an early Obama supporter, said last month the choice of Warren left him feeling as if he'd been slapped in the face. In a telephone interview this weekend, Robinson, of Weare, said he doesn't believe Obama has included him in response to the Warren criticism. But he said his inclusion won't go unnoticed by the gay and lesbian community.

"It's important for any minority to see themselves represented in some way," Robinson said. "Whether it be a racial minority, an ethnic minority or, in our case, a sexual minority. Just seeing someone like you up front matters."

Ahhh geeeezzz, are we being invaded again? Not the way I want to spend my lunch hour on here, darnit.

Hey everyone! I'm with you, Special, I was just happy to see Jake without the other "extension". And he looked great, although a little low on confidence. When I went back & looked at the pics on IHJ, almost all of them, his eyes just did not have that sparkle & confidence that they did in other times when he was up on stage like that. But, I most definitely am not criticizing that or anything. I can only handle getting up in front of a crowd of 15 in early service to read scripture and that is it!!. So any of those stars who can do it so confidently have my kudos.
His body stance & strength of voice just seemed to indicate a bit of nervousness to me. Why is it I always get to feeling so easily sorry & protective of the guy?!

He kind of still looked like a little boy to me up there on stage. Didn't look at all like that guy who kind of peeled out of that Buffalo Club.

prairiegirl said...

And might I add, I am encouraged by the long, long sweater, lol. And the absence of that annoying tea cozy.

I still have a couple observations that have been bothering/intriguing me, but I'm still withholding. One I will mention, though, is one that someone else pointed out awhile back. In those pictures of the Buffalo Club PeelOut, I think those are the ones, what was with the 2 different garage door openers? I found that interesting. One garage door opener per set of garage doors, I always thought. Or everyone I've ever dogsat for. When you have more than 3 garages, maybe you have 2 openers???

That Michael K was a killer. How New Millineium was that anyway? Live Blogging as the awards were going on? I thought that was really something.

And OMG had its own Live Feed going!

Makes you wonder, doesn't it, lil cutie? I'm not a parent but I have observed lots of 1st time parents and I can only imagine how panicky you get at the slightest of illness, discomfort, whatever.

When my brother & his wife had my nephew, their 1st, they washed everything. You know, the pacifier drops & ah-ah-ah!! has to be washed! Then my niece was born, and some things got a little more relaxed, lol.

I wanted to say, too, that I loved it when Kate Winslet looked right at Leonardo and said how she'd known him for 13 years and she just loved him. You know, she just loved him as a person & a dear friend. His eyes watered and I just thought that was one of the lovliest, most earnest moments I've seen in a thank you speech. What a special friendship they seem to have. I thought that was so touching.

How wonderful it always is to have someone tell you that they love you like that. Always a moment to treasure and I felt good for Leo.

Hostility towards paps, taking video camera, careless driving, etc., is post-Reese - I rather think anti-Reeke sentiment is to blame - kill the messenger.

Reeke and the paps!

Everyone knows Reeke uses the paps to keep them in the news, so to speak. Without those photo ops both will drop off the face of the earth.
So they pay the paps to take their pic and pretend they are offended, to fool the public into thinking they are chased by the paps 24/7.

The speeding off after the party was irresponsible and silly but typical. And how interesting, Reese didn't have to shield her eyes from the camera flashes this time around!
But what I found more offensive was when the paps were called for the birthday dinner photo op and then were egged and abused by the staff. That was just plain disgusting!

Pretty with her cream-colored gown.

Anonymous said...

Let's give Jake the benefit of the doubt, maybe the speeding off from the party on Friday was because he had received some bad news that meant he had to get home pdq, okay that doesn't excuse such behaviour but could explain it. May also explain him being late yesterday, wasn't he meant to present before Rickey Gervais, so maybe he was very seriously delayed and only turned up because he was being professional.

I have a question: Was there a mistake with the supporting actor awards? I thought RDJ, Tom Cruise, and James Franco were nominated for Best Supporting in a Musical or Comedy, and Heath was nominated in the Dramatic category. I was very suprised Demi Moore came out to announce those.

To think that every time Reese, Jake or Reese and Jake goes out they call the paps is weird and far fetched. To say that you believe this is insane imo. If that were the case, most of HW actors are guilty of this behavior. Clooney and exgirlfriend, Tom and Katie, Jennifer and John, Brad and Angelina, Spencer and that Girl, and any other two actors who are dating or supposedly dating. Who knows if they really are dating or together? Do any of them call the paps every time they are photographed for the Tabs. Let's be fair, not biased.

Rushing Friday night, skipping Saturday night, At peets on Sunday day, late on Sunday night.

Naomi/Stephen/family illness/emergency possible but why did Maggie arrive on time at GG for red carpet and leave asap for NY after if Mom and Dad were ill.

BT emergency/sick possible too but again, Maggie. She's a mom and would know if somethings serious, maybe stay a few days to help. But no she was all smiles and happy at GG and LAX.

Don't laugh but Deacon/Ava emergency. Maybe thats why Maggie wasn't skipping the GGs/staying in LA. But why would D/A want Jake to be there. When kids are sick they want the person they're most close to there and for D/A... its the nanny lol then Reese then Daddy Ryan. It wouldn't be Uncle Jake.

Other emergency/sick people: Austin, Atticus. Can't be Reese, she's a carrier. lol.. She wasn't looking sick or concerned Friday night so doubt her or her family was ill. So maybe Austin caught a bug or Atti. That damn organic crap. Or maybe Jake had the trots you never know.

Another possible reason: no illness just a way to avoid questions. Remember Reese is the one selling the Reeke story in pics and print. Jake's been in pics but hasn't said one word or had the interviewers "say" the word for him unlike how Reese did in Vogue. He's agreeable to pics because they can be taken out of context so easily and letting pweople see what they want to see. But live on-air questions from Ryan Seacrest and all the TV interviewers on the red carpet and in/out of parties? No way to get around that without lying or telling the truth and he can't do either. So to save himself and "support" Reese he shows up late and leaves early.

I get the vibe that Reeke is a HW joke and people there know he's dug himself into a hole with it.

What an absolutely blissful walk. Nobody out there. Whole place to myself. Sky was grey & very overcast. And during my walk, a little burst of snowflakes.
The lake is partially frozen and the ice was moving against the rocks like pieces of shaved ice. With the currents moving the water underneath, combined with seeing Leo C. last night, I had images of Leonardo treading water in that big ocean at the end of Titanic. I could picture it, staring at that dark water and it just gave me the shivers to think of someone in water that cold.

Jake was avoiding Heath questions, it's a no-brainer. You know i would have been asked, he doesn't do red carpets anyway anymore, hasn't in the last few years but arriving a bit late he wanted to make sure no pesky reporters were still lurking about.

Left right after, no parties, again avoiding the Heath questions. Maggie did handle them on the red carpet, but she obviously had planned to leave right after, no Peter in L.A., just a business obligation, simple.

If they are a joke, then so are Tomkat, Wiil and Jada, Travolta and his wife Leo and his current bimbo, etc. I highly doubt HW pays attention to them, it's hard to imagine outside of the online fandom, which to me is a drop in the bucket. As far as the rags are concerned, they are no where near Brangelina, believe me there is not that much interest in them and Jake even less.

Special K said...

Maggie's play with Peter opened tonight in NY, so she had to rush back to make opening night. I still wonder if there was another reason she was in LA this particular weekend, because did anyone know she was going to present until like this weekend?

I know everyone else has thought of every other reason possible why Jake left in a rush, bailed at the last minute, and was late last night, but I am still sticking by two little reasons and one big tall one.

I agree with everyone that Jake looked very good but seemed reserved and a little nervous. The smiling, confident, charming Jake from 2yrs ago has disappeared. I think that part of his nervousness is that he was in a room with alot of real A list power brokers and after two years of "dating" A list, Oscar winner Reese and he's not even a blip on the radar. His moment in the spotlight has passed and may never return-POP for sure doesn't look like it will be Oscar material. The people in that room are famous, but are famous for their movies, not walking with coffee cups, shopping with Reese and being PR whores. Maybe Jake had a dose of reality standing on that stage last night. Also, I have believed for the past year that Jake and Maggie are not on good terms. They haven't been seen together in over a year, they haven't even been in the same state together for months and last night they didn't even go to the awards together. The pics of Maggie at LAX suggest she did her thing at the GG and then changed and went straight to the airport. I'm sure Jake also had to be stressed about that last night. I think that Maggie doesn't support the bearding or the Reeke photo shoots and probably doesn't like Reese. Maggie is low key and known for her dislike of the paps intruding in her private life. Reeke's daily PR photo ops must make her cringe. Maybe this was Jake's wake up call.

Watching Jake last night I couldnt help ask myself who is this guy. This is not the happy, confident and exsuberant man that we saw just a few years ago. The spark seems gone. It seemed like Jake was adored by everyone in HW after his portrayal of Jake Twist. I remember the hug Charlize gave him at the Baftas. She looked like she truly admired him. He has thrown that all away. My gut tells me that many in HW have lost respect for him. Number 1 he sold out. Number 2 I dont think people like the company that he is now keeping. He shouldn't have started bearding and he made an awful choice in the one he choose. I think Jake needs to make a quick decision. He has got advice that has been a disaster to his place among HW elite. Maybe its to late to turn back but he sure needs to reevaluate quick.

I really think he needs a new agent - they're giving him crappy career advice. :(

Happy about sweater, the fedora, the farmer's market, just little things that I see. I am still keeping my eyes open for more.

Wonder if we will see Austin give any more little shout outs on the eps he has left on OTH.

So much for Babblers never coming over here.

Remember seeing a "Comment deleted..This post has been removed by the author" on the blog and author's name was Gyllenbabble's Fluorescent Lamp? OMFG I still ROTFLMAO over it. You know they still come here they're just careful not to make that stupid idiot mistake again.

The people in that room are famous, but are famous for their movies, not walking with coffee cups, shopping with Reese and being PR whores.

I think that Maggie doesn't support the bearding or the Reeke photo shoots and probably doesn't like Reese.

Wake Up Call: ITA with everything you said. The 2 ^^ especially are righton target.

My gut tells me that many in HW have lost respect for him. Number 1 he sold out. Number 2 I dont think people like the company that he is now keeping.

Jersey Tom ITA with you too and those 2 ^^ ring so true.

Just for fun, I arranged the stars who were invited to present the films nominated for a GG, according to their ages.
Age...Presenter
68....Tom Brokaw
59....Sigourney Weaver
55....Pierce Brosnan
47....Ricky Gervais
44....Don Cheadle
43....Shahrukh Khan
42....Salma Hayek
39....Gerard Butler
39....Renée Zellweger
28....Jake Gyllenhaal

If I were to find the glass half-full, I would notice an obvious fact really quickly :)

The thing that cracks me up is that they lie over on Gyllenbabble all the time that they never frequent "those other sites."

You would think Jake would want to see his Sister and the father of his neice in a new play in NYC. It will be interesting to see if reeke or even Momma G. attend.

Jake did not leave the cermony right after his part in the show. I did see him standing around talking to a man in the audience later. I was wondering if he was sitting at Maggies table. It looked as if the TDK Table was to the right of the stage facing out and very near the stage. They did not take any close ups of the TDK table. They keep showing the same people over and over again. I must have saw Drew Barrymore 25 times. Plus Cameron Diaz, Demi and Ashton, and Meryl Streep. I can understand Meryl but why the heck were they focusing in on some of these other folks who werent even nominees.

I know I've called it the big Buffalo Peelout or whatever; that's just for grins. It wasn't exactly a peelout, although that overcorrection wasn't really necessary. It doesn't seem like it was real reckless, but all the same, you're driving a car with people along both sides of it; seems to me your gutcheck is to go slow and be a little careful.

However, that guy was not the same guy who was on stage last night nor was it the same guy who is in that Peets picture. That guy looks vulnerable and rather alone. Reeke maybe has taken away some of his independence & self-confidence. Reese seems the type to wear the pants in a relationship. Call the shots. You spend alot of time around that and you're going to forget how to stand on your own.

And I'm not saying that he doesn't have a good thing going with Austin and BT. Things could be going hunky dory on that end, or at least with the baby, they should be, let's put it that way. But all that is stressful enough without having to deal with leading a whole other life for the sake of pretense. Frankly, I don't know how he's doing it. I'd be cracked by now. Especially if I had to stand up on a stage in front of a room of A-listers who knew the sham that has been the whole Reeke PhotoOp Train.

Good call Rattler about the ages - never even thought of that.

I am still wondering the whole Fincher Jake thing - Fincher could have asked anyone to present his film. Why did he ask Jake?

As trying as it was to work for Fincher, it looks like it might have has forged a friendship.

But I still wonder if Jake is going to do Torso?

Florida Tom said...

Rattler I dont see anything obvious about that list. I dont get your point on the glass half full comment. All I can see is that Jake is the youngest. The variety of ages seem to blend nicely.

You can bet Jakes PR begged for that opportunity and pulled some strings to get it. Jake needs to be seen in a place where serious talent is rewarded. Enough with the phony photo ops. That was the smartest thing they have done in a very long time. But it certaionly was flat. The sparkle in his eyes is gone.

Happy about sweater, the fedora, the farmer's market, just little things that I see. I am still keeping my eyes open for more.

I know; me, too, Special. Never more hopeful than to have seen these signs.

But something is still nagging me about his physical appearances, the sadness/lack of spark in his eyes, and not seeing any photos of him & Maggie together. I just find that really odd. You would think there might have been one pic of him & his sister together.

At this point in the big ol' Reeke era, it seems like a pretty big deal that we've not seen Maggie with him and Reese. For all the blabber in the rags earlier last year regarding how much Maggie just loved Reese, I've yet to get that feeling at all from what we've seen. Or rather, not seen.

And his eyes? All those pictures of him from last night, and there were a ton on IHJ, and that one of him & Reese in the car after I think that CAA benefit. His eyes are either frightened/spooked looking or they're sad. He looks adorable in those Peet pictures & I love the long sweater, but he still looks messy. He looks like he either slept in those clothes or they've been wadded up all week in a corner of the bedroom. I can see looking like that once in awhile but he's looking like that alot.

And there are times when he looks okay; pictures at the Laker game for one. But someone suffering from depression can function at times. It's when you're not preoccupied with something or not busy doing something that it can sneak up on you and there it is. Written all over your face. And that's what I see happening with him. I saw it earlier last year in the Cabo airport pictures and other ones. Seeing it again.

prairiegirl said...

Geesh, I'm depressing myself!! I do know some things about it, though; anxiety & depression can go hand in hand at times.

But heck, I'm watching my Alf - Season 1 right now! LOLLLL! I love Alf. And OTH is about to start.

LOL, you cracked me up @ 20:43. I'll let you go ahead & say it. lol

Dec 22, 2008:
Fincher also had quite a bit to say about what drew him to the “Torso” story — and why Eliot Ness might not be the hero Hollywood has raised him up to be.
“[Ness is] kind of the self-righteous, American do-gooder,” Fincher told MTV. “He was an interesting and extremely flawed guy who had a lot of problems. He did a lot of destructive things in the name of cleaning up the streets.”

SK: I can see Jake competing fiercely with Matt for this role, and losing out.

Nov 22, 2008:
Bill Mechanic said that the two best parts are “the guy who leads you through the story,” and Elliot Ness. “It’s less about the ‘Torso Killer’ than the nature of a hero and Elliot Ness,” he said.

But then, as you know, there is always room for hope.

SK: Mentoring could be a possibility. Just a guess.

“None of the movies that I’ve made throughout my whole life would have been possible without somebody first believing in me,” Spielberg remarked. “I really believe that being a mentor to talented newcomers is a very time-honored tradition.”

Interesting thought about Fincher maybe mentoring Jake. Fincher is one the best and innovated directors out there. Jake behind the camera, well we know that Austin talked about writing. Interesting thought.

Still think that Jake and Fincher will team up for another project at some point if not for Torso.

Good post "wake up call" agree with a lot you say.

I don't have a clue why Jake peeled outa the party or why he got late for the GGs. But if I had to think of something I'd say he got a call from the neighbor, when he was at the party that Wenty's car was parked in the driveway! :))

Dang I don't know - Jake had some killer kissing in BBM, but Austin's giving him some serious competition with a different approach as Julian.

And did see what I think I saw in next week's preview - Austin back to his old "Oops I forget my shirt" self?

"Still think that Jake and Fincher will team up for another project at some point if not for Torso."
They might, but Fincher doesn't seem like the PR photo op type. I doubt that Fincher would be in agreement with the Reeke on set staged pics for the paps or the "OMG the paps happened to get pics of Reeke on set in the middle of the desert". Also, if Fincher is so particular, I would imagine that any input from Reese would not be taken well. FLF thanks for agreeing with my post.

Finally a OTH where we got to see more than a few minutes of Austin. Looking gorgeous as always, and great chemistry with Sophia. I also really like the scene in the diner.

I've got to agree with you PG, something doesn't seem right with Jake. No way of knowing what, but it worries me.

prairiegirl said...

flf, don't get me started thinking up a matchup between Austin & Wentworth. That's dangerous, lol! Where in the heck is Prison Break, anyway?

I'm still trying to recover from seeing Austin tonight. Dang, why are his scenes so short? Too many scenes of all those other people! lol.
Boy, him & Sophia Bush have some good chemistry. Her voice kind of drives me nuts, though. Reminds me of Simon Cowell's ex-girlfriend. Is that a sign of heavy smoking or are some people's voices just naturally like that?

I tell you what. Austin was unbelievable looking tonight. He has that stare down. He was staring down Brooke's legs like there was no tomorrow. And one final thought:

With Austin's scruff? And Jake's scruff? We might want to start checking those boys out in the future for alot of carpet burn. Dang. I can just hear it now.

Dang. Austin has completely metamorphasi'd (is that a word, lol?) into nothing short of sigh worthy. I'm I'm ...speechless.

And on that note, I'm turning in.
Y'all have a good night & lots of scruffy-er, sweet dreams.

"His moment in the spotlight has passed and may never return-POP for sure doesn't look like it will be Oscar material."

Hey, I'm no Reese fan, but wasn't these type of failure comments also said about "Four Christmas's"?
And wouldn't you know the movie did well, actually better than expected.

Also, I have believed for the past year that Jake and Maggie are not on good terms.

You know with all that info you have about Jake and Maggie, are you sure you're not Ms. Cantara? Or do you work for the Fan Pyshic Network. I can't tell.

Special K said...

The scene in the diner was great, and Austin did a great job switching gears after Sam shocked and then scooted and he had his chat with Peyton.

BTW - this was the episode that Chad Michael Murray directed. Have to say it was a good job, and he did some nice stuff to weave everything thing together.

I am always a total mess by then of October Sky. Doesn't matter how many times I watch it, I end up crying.

I thought about it last night when I saw Laura Dern at the GG's.

Anonymous said...

Wake up call, Jake has many people he is friends with and/or has known for a long time at the GG's. Sam Mendes, Kate Winslet, RDJ, Catherine Keener, Susan Sarandan, Dustin Hoffman, David Fincher, Meryl Streep, just to name a few.

I don't see why he would have to have some wake up call. He wouldn't be the only one in that room with issues.

Anonymous said...

Ms. Warick, as I made abundantly clear in my post, everything I said was my opinion. I never state that what I'm saying is a fact. One of the reasons I like this blog is that you can give your opinion. If you don't agree with what I have to say, that's fine. I'm not that psycho Cantara or working for the fan pyshic network. And you're right, Four Xmas made a shit load of cash, but all the critics said it sucked. So I guess everyone was partially right. If you so detest my post, you can simple opt to stop reading them.

Anonymous said...

Think again, leave wake up call alone, let her have her day, besides she's having another Jake doomsday Vision.

prairiegirl said...

Tryin' to get off of here and I keep getting distracted.

Ms. Warick, as everyone else on here, Wake Up Call is just giving their belief/opinion. It's not fact.

And yes, 4 Christmas's did well at the box office. But I'll sure be curious to see how it does at dvd sales when it gets released. How many of the people who shelled out $5-12 bucks to go see that thing are going to want to spend $12.99 wanting to re-live that glorious baby barf scene? It was a romcom. It was a holiday movie. Sneak Preview sightunseen, people went to go see it wanting light fluff & romance for the holiday. It was the perfect set of ingredients.

You know, you can bake a souffle with all the right ingredients and get it into the oven okay, but in the end, it still might fall flat. Judging by so many critics' flat reviews, I imagine there were people who went into the theatre expecting a light souffle, but by the time they came out, knew they'd seen a flop-eroo.

I know, Special, I thought of it, too, when I saw Laura Dern. She always looks so kind of elegant. Like Gwyneth Paltrow.

Well, I am sensing another mini invasion so I'm gettin the heck out of Dodge 'fore I get irritated.
Nite!

OTH certainly left us hanging with that glance of Austin, maybe we'll get a screencap of it from Spooky to tide us over until next Monday.

I really like Sophia's voice, and I don't think it is a smoker's voice, it's different from those, not that I can explain how.

The thing I wonder about Reeke and their peers in HW is not the bearding, since that goes on a lot. It's the constant, in your face, 24/7 tabloid nature of it. I've lost count, but I think we've had about 15 different sets of photos of Reeke in the approximately 3 weeks he's been back from London. And I also wonder if it makes any difference that Jake is in such a committed relationship, unlike say, Cruise.

4xmas may have done better than expected, but it has been soundly panned by critics and Reese is up for a razzie for worst actress because of it. Its right there with Beverly Hills Chihauha(sp?)- made money but it's crap. My hairdresser's daughter was raving about it. I told her she must be nuts - then she said she loved Vince Vaughn so who knows who was responsible for pulling in an audience.

Dunno why but Austins story about being noticed by a woman staring at him at a [Sundance?] paarty, something about it. Every time I read it I always wonder if it really was a guy agent not a woman.

Austin looked hot tonight. when they got up from the couch and Austin was going to leave Brook leaned down to blow out the candle I wanted to yell "grab those shirttails don't let him go!"

The kids on OTH are the cutest.

How dare you suggest my visit to Austin was anything less than professional. FYI I asked him for help learning surfing for a crucial Prison Break scene. Studio gave me pro lessons but Austin's an actor and he did that surf show and he's hot had first hand experience and I told him I need help shooting off those scenes.

I was sitting in my car across the street that night when I saw Jake in the binoculars dressed up and drive away. So I called Austin and asked if now was a good time for me to come over because it looked like the scene was getting shot in the morning. I really need his pointers on switching and holding positions and how to get in and out of wetsuits and how much wax I need rubbed on my stick. Also a hands-on demo on how to get sand out of my ass crack. That's all everything was all on the up and up.

Austin was helping me figure out the wetsuit when we heard screeching and doors slamming. Austin almost slipped and fell on the shower floor when he heard Jake in the house and I lost a lot of hair in the zipper. I called Austin today about rescheduling and he said Jake's keeping him busy at home and he can't meet me until 2010. WTF?

Four Christmases

Production Budget: $80 million
Marketing costs: $20 million (my estimate)
Worldwide grosses: $155 million

Typically, the exhibiting theater keeps 45% of the gross [Wikipedia].

Total cost: $100 million
155 * 0.55 = studio gets 85,25 million

I don't see profit for the studio (yet).

I agree, m. Austin has a really nice voice.

Hey, Destiny, you know who also talks like Sophia Bush and Teri whatever, Simon Cowell's ex? Robin Tunney. I think she's on that TV show with Simon Baker.
Speaking of whom, Simon Baker looked great on the GG's. That guy looked dapper as ever. He always has twinkling, lively eyes. And he's an Aussie!! Love those men from Australia.

Gotta go! Everyone have a good day today. I'm having my car worked on for brakes. Help keep my fingers crossed I don't get that dreaded phone call. You know the one: "Uh, ma'am, while we were looking at your car, we noticed that....."

Hi Stubborn,

Don't get me started on Slumdog Millionaire -

Jai Ho is the song at the ending credits where there is singing and dancing Bollywood-style. Full of passion, color and life, but there's a sad note to it too, but its mostly life-affirming. Jai Ho I believe means "victory" or "may there be victory". They don't sing throughout, but the soundtrack and score is excellent. MIA sings a couple of tracks in it, I think one was played here if I am not mistaken, Paper Planes? The entire premise I found fascinating; all the circumstances leading up to Jamal's appearance on WWTBAM. Never seen anything like it, very, very well done, and innovative.

Anonymous said...

Also, I wasn't familiar with Bollywood movies that much, and I guess that singing and dancing is usually done at the end? I'm very intrigued from *ahem* what I have observed lately on the GGs. ;)

Stubborn TB said...

Also, I wasn't familiar with Bollywood movies that much, and I guess that singing and dancing is usually done at the end?
I haven't really watched any Bollywood movies except for when I'm zapping through different channels, but my sister watches them.
And it seems like they're singing every time that I come into the room, so I assume that the songs are usually spread all through the movie.

That song by MIA is played here on the radio all the time. I didn't know it was part of a movie soundtrack. Strange that they never mention the connection to the movie, but then again I have not heard anyone talking about "Slumdog Millionaire" here at all.

But now that two people here have said that I need to watch it, I really need to check it out when it opens here.

Anonymous said...

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, Stubby. I saw it twice, the first time I was caught up in all the energy of it, the second time it made me cry. Great movie. :)

There was a nice story on the Informers in today's NY Times arts section -- it sounds like it's going to be marketed as a "guilty pleasure." No mention of Austin, but given that there's a huge cast of mostly more famous people, that's not entirely surprising. (And Austin didn't fit the "cast of lunatics" spin that the article was giving).
