For a cinephile Austin, he knew exactly what they were wanting to create in this scene for an upcoming episode of OTH.
The famous beach scene from Here to Eternity with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr.
Based on the book, Here to Eternity is the story of soldiers, (played by Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Frank Sinatra, and Ernest Borgnine) stationed on Hawaii in the months leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed portrayed the women in their lives.
Because of the censors it is less obvious that Kerr and Lancaster's characters have actually been having sex than it is in the novel and the later, in 1979 miniseries based on the book.
The on-screen chemistry between Lancaster and Kerr may have spilled off-screen; Lancaster alleged that the stars became romantically involved during filming.
One question. So if Austin is Burt would that make Jake Ernie?

While the year is split into big chunks of primary custody because of the work schedules they still have a lot of flexibility. Reese is off longer than planned so she came home to LA for what was to be a quick visit with the kids and turned out to be longer. When Ryan came home from Africa even though he wasn't technically taking the kids until June he had them for some time in May. According to the people I talk to they really try to be extremely cooperative with each others time with the kids.
TR it's always good to hear what you have to say. But, I'm really curious as to why Reeke PR decided to up the Reeke public PDA for their photo ops. If after 2 years, many people (not just on OMG & WFT2) still think they are bearding and it has been long enough for Reese to put the divorced woman behind her and go it alone and independant woman, their PR doesn't just end the Reeke showmance. Even most people who believe they are real believe them to be huge PR whores and phonies. The showmance benifets Reese 100 times more than Jake, but Reese has really outgrown the need for the fake boyfriend, she can get steady work and her own PR with Jake.

I don't think it was ever an issue of getting work. It's having the total package that interests Reese and Jake is part of the package. That's as real as it gets for some of these people unfortunately. I don't think I see a PDA uptick. Maybe I missed something but from the Rome unveiling until now they seem to be using the same basic strategy.

Austin and Sophia's scene, looks good but scenes like that are seriously bitches to film. Waiting for the waves, having set assistants splash the water, and who says the water was a comfortable temp, it prolly wasn't, all the wet sand UGH. My guess is it took all day. Hope they got paid 10x extra.

I agree with TR. Since Rome, the script has been the same : Reese needs to exorcize her inner Jennifer Aniston (ie. the desperate cougar who can't get or keep a man) and Jake needs to look straight in order to fulfill his contract with Disney. The interesting thing, though, is that Jake has not been seen in a movie theater since Rome either. I don't think that anyone in Disney/CAA central anticipated that.

comparing the latest Austin pics, with the latest Reeke, isn't it strange (and slightly kharmic) that the person who's looking hottest after over 2 years of reeking is actually Austin (who some people always try to write off as a door mat, d-lister, etc). Compared to Reeke yesterday (okay particularly Reese) Austin's seems to be thriving the most from the bearding. Which in a very sweet, romantic way you could say was one of the point of the whole sorry exercise (Jake shielding his real private life from the paps).
Also, funny isn't it how we always get a reeking just when Austin starts up work again. I'm now convinced this is part of the contract, Jake doesn't Reeke when Austin's not working, but plays along when Austin's in NC.

I know I've asked this before, but I don't recall getting an anwer. How does Jake bearding automatically make Austin "straight". Most of the people out there barely have any idea of who Jake is, let alone Austin. Except for maybe a few babblers, nobody is going to be saying, look, Jake has a girlfriend, I guess Austin is straight too."
Plenty of known gay actors who work in television do not have beards, so I really don't see how you can say Jake is doing this for Austin. He's doing it for himself, most likely for PoP since we all Disney loves their gay stars to beard.

NG - I have wonder a lot about Kirsten and Jake. After there break up make up they seem still be friends, but it was Maggie was the one who was most upset about them splitting. And I agree that Jake may not have really been in love until he met Austin and everything changed in for him and relationships, and was the deciding factor.
In the end you wonder, when Kiki was allegedly using and drinking, that she was just more interest than in Jake, and that really wasn't a problem for him.

Burt Lancaster was one of my early crushes. I am sure I have seen every one of his films. His role in From Here to Eternity was epic and as sexy as it got in those days. Austin just may overtake him though. The man gets better looking every time I see him. So true about Jake declining while Austin is thriving. The one who has to lie all the time bears the marks of the stress it creates. Silence would have been a better way to deal with it.

If Ted was telling the truth then Kirsten wasn't a beard and Jake truly loved her. That would fit with the genuine sexual chemistry those two showed in their interactions and the various gossip sources (including Ted) who said they were a genuine couple. That isn't meant to stifle discussion: on the contrary, I'd be fascinated to know why people think that, despite the available evidence, Kirsten was just a beard.

I think the reason people believe Jake and Kirsten were real is that many gay guys have girlfriends in their teens, early 20s before they come to terms with their true sexuality. They probably had sex and their body language does show intimacy. There are a lot of pictures though with Jake, Kirsten and Chris where I wonder who is the couple and who is the tag along. As for Reeke, I don't think they have ever had sex. No signs of intimacy there at all. Holding hands, hugging while staring off into space or being forced to kiss by basketball cams does not show intimacy.
Reese seems to be chewing her lips a lot lately. I'm guessing there is some psychological meaning behind that but do not know what it means.
If some of the people who post on Datalounge and other places are to be believed, rumors about Jake started when he was at Columbia or around the time of DD. My guess on Jake and Kiki: I think Jake really liked Kiki, and may've convinced himself he could have a real relationship with her, and that guys were just for hookups. I think the fact Kiki was into drugs made it easier to be the relationship, and they were both away filming for a large chunk of the two years together. I think things changed when Jake got older, and really fell for Austin, and then Kiki may've become more of a beard, especially when he supposedly got back together with her in 2005.

I got through the nose surgery BUT
there was a complication! I got
really sick and nauseated and had
to stay overnight. I will spare you

really vomiting pretty bad but I
survived it. I got home yesterday
(July 15th) about 10:30 a.m. and
was awfully glad too! The doctor
gave me the usual pain pill and
the antiobiotic. I go back to him
Friday morning 7-16 at 9 a.m. so
hopefully he will let me go back to
work on Monday, July 20th, so I
will let you know.

Did you know back in the old days, in the 1800's even in the 1950's or so, when a woman schoolteacher got married/had kids (I can't remember which or if it was both) that she had to quit teaching? I'm serious. The attitudes at that time was "Oh my god, she's having SEX, she can't be around children anymore." Well its the same with HW and gay actors, now isn't it. The attitude if an actor is out is "Oh my god, people are going to know he's having GAY SEX, it's all people will think about when he's up on the silver screen."

hey, P-Bitch! I live in LA to and I've heard LOTS of stuff about Jake-y and being gay (but really bisexual, as if theirs a diff).
A guy friend of mine that's str8 does valet parking for xtra $ sometimes, and he SWEARS ON HIS LIFE AND ON HIS MAMMA'S GRAVE that about 2 years ago he saw Jake kissing this older dude when the stopped the car and didn't think anyone had come up yet to get his keys. Hours later when they came out Jake signed an autograph for my friend but said no when he asked if he could take a picture with his cell. My friend kept saying that if he had had his cell out and could have gotten a pic of that man and Jake he wouldn't ever probably have to work again 'cause he would sell it. I told him that was wrong, but he would have done it anyway.
I totally believe my friend cause he doesn't have a problem with gay people and he didn't have a reason to make it up. He' isn't the kind to do that.

I don't think it is part of the toothy stuff because the guy who is my friend that saw it saw it back when we were in all high school and that was almost 2 yrs. ago. I've never read all the toothy things but I thought it was all just some gossip colum.
My guy friend would never lie about this. He just isn't the kind to do that. He has a sister that I went to school with at an all girls school and he went to an all boys school wiht my brother. Their at the same college now so I will ask him if it's part of all that toothy stuff, but I don't hink so.

What I left out was that my friend was working for a temporary valet service when he saw this. When a restarant's regular valet would call in sick the restarant would call this service my friend worked for and they would send people to replace the sick ones. I will have to ask my friend what restarant it was, but I know it was a restarant and not a mall.

hey, NYCER - - that is NOT what I said. I did NOT say my friend slept with him. I said that two years ago my friend was working as a temp valet and saw him with an older man. They didn't know anyone was watching and they were very close and it looked like they were kissing. They were in line at a restaurant to turn their car over to the valet and there were several cars on in front of them. They didn't expect the valet to come up to them and take their car until they pulled in under the restaurant's garage thingy, so they got caught by surprise.
My friend would NOT lie. He even got Jakes autograph when they came out but said Jake would not let him take a pic. And like I said this was like two years ago.

Toothy Tile, the rising young male star who secretly likes boys, is creating quite the media sitch. Not only am I told by same-sex inside sources that Mr. T. is still speaking with media representatives about coming out of the closet (much to the dissatisfaction of T.T.'s ten-percent crowd), but poor T. is feeling a tad...pulled.
He really loves his old g-f. That much is very clear. Nevertheless, T.T. is not breaking up with his (largely unknown) boyfriend, even though Mr. T.--whose dimples nevertheless remain quite dreamy through all this suspenseful tsuris--is not quite sure what, exactly, to do about the ex-girlfriend.
What's a bisexual budding star to do?

If Jake and Reese are just PR buddies, then as far as I can tell, he hasn't dated anyone since he broke up with Kirsten Dunst back in 2005. Is he that picky?

Kacie, glad to hear you're home.
It's always interesting to read the old bits about TT and Jake. I think Ted thought Jake and Kiki were the real deal back when it happened and they first broke up, but somewhere along the line changed his mind. Whether that is due to something he actually knows, or just speculation based on Reeke, etc. is not clear.
That picture of Lancaster really reminds me of Austin, because of the checkered shirt.

go of Austin in his life completely
