Happy Thanksgiving!

There have been long days and months, tough moments, but OMG has had some good things to count this year.

Make a wish with that wishbone for a year ahead of even more.

You think this is Jake's shirt for the holiday?

And to all those at OMG, thank you for coming and sharing, despite differences in opinions sometimes, we still gather together in friendship and community. To everyone have a blessed year ahead.

Some times it is only when something is taken away, that you stop and truly appreciate what you have been given. This year has shown me the extraordinary love, kindess and friendship of the people in my life. Even when I have been selfish in my own drama. There are not enough words to express my thanks and gratitude for all that have done for me. I am truly humbled and indebted to them. Thank you so much.

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we
use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.

I live the best of both worlds, a woman who is fiesty and a totally bitch who loves me and I give her what she wants (tabloid pictures and occasional peen), and she gives me what I want (free time in secret with my boytoy who Knows (I've got what he needs and can't get anywhere else). I get what I want from them both. Everyone satisfied.

Man, I have not had a free minute in day, and not much of an end in sight as I have to get ready and leave on Sunday for a business trip once all of the festivities are over.

So busy I didn't even know Adam was on Letterman and missed it. :-( Still want to chat about him when I get the time too.

But I did want to pop in wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy thanksgiving to all. I'm down with a sudden but miserable cold and no appetite. I'm spending the day wrapped in a down comforter in front of the fire. Not so bad after all.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from the big W in the Big Midwest (LOL!), Wichita KS. I am using my brother's signal and it's awesome to be in touch. We had a delicious meal and it was a little tough missing the "patriarch" but first one is under our belt now and everything's okay, will be okay.

We've seen people camping in tents outside of a couple Best Buys already. What is at Best Buy that everyone's wanting? I looked at their ad and I'm not sure I'm seeing the big deal. I think I'm going to be getting up early to take my mom & aunt to Penney's here. They open at 4 am but I doubt we're there that early.

Destiny, I'd like to exchange thoughts on this Adam Lambert deal. I had put up two lengthy comments the other night but took them back down. But I'll revoice my thought on Good Morning America's treatment - I'll do it tomorrow maybe.

Well, good to see everyone and how are the ol' waistbands doing today??? lol.
Special, how did your pie turn out?

Florida Tom said...

PR Its all about HDTV. Something like 250 bucks for one. They will be killing each other in the morning.

My pie turn out great, and the day was good. Went over early to help with get things ready giving my family a chance to go to high school football game (big town rivalry). Funny somehow making all that stuff and pie, I came home empty handed and not even a slice of my own pie. How does that happen? Oh well.

Hung out with my nephew who let me know that 2012 was good but TDAT was better. His reason - TDAT at least had a story. LOL.

It was a very good day.

Telegraph has a the UK trailer for Brothers. Definite a different look at the movie from the US campaign. Brothers debuts in the UK January 22.

Spesh... what was diff about the trailer/look of Brothers. I watched it and was pretty sure it was like a trailer i'd already seen. it looks really good. i'm looking forward to seeing it for sure.

I hope everyone had a great turkey day. i did. now it's back to the grind. i've got to work the midnight shift. ugh. :)

Oh, sorry to hear that one, sienna. You must be about to get ready for work as I write. We are working Sunday, believe it or not. Well, I'm not but our dock is. I'm supposed to try & go in early on Monday which I'm not very happy about because I try to walk in the mornings still. So I'm not sure yet what I'm doing.

Is that the big ticket item, Tom? I noticed the flatscreens being a popular item everywhere. Also laptops. Nebraska Furniture Mart has a 25-pack of blank cd-r's for $2.99. Aaargh, wish I had the courage to go face that crowd for those. Myself, the aunt & my mom will be headed to Penney's. I am setting my Ipod alarm for 4:30 so I can get up & hit the shower.

They were watching the new Star Trek movie upstairs on dvd while my sister & myself were downstairs with the kids with the Tom & Jerry marathon on the Cartoon Network. lol. Oh boy!!
The Star Trek movie looked like it could've been kind of good although I'm not wild about monsters and I think I saw monsters in that thing.

Where's a good Bridget Jones movie when you need one? I want romance and I want a happy ending. And alot of laughs. Is that too much to ask for, I ask?

Well, my brother's up here fixing himself a piece of Mom's pumpkin pie. He's sitting down so I'm cutting out. Will talk to you all later!

The jury might still be out on what to do in Afghanistan, but the public has spoken on war movies: nobody buys tickets to them anymore. It's a good thing that Hollywood hasn't seemed to notice (or care), because this year included some terrific offerings in the genre. All three movies—The Hurt Locker, The Messenger, Brothers—demonstrate that war is hell, but they also show us that the most difficult fights aren't always on the battlefield. They're often right in the kitchen, after the war, when the soldiers come face to face with loved ones who can't comprehend what combat does to a person's soul. When the main character in The Hurt Locker, a bomb-detonation expert, is asked by his wife to buy cereal or chop carrots, it's clear that he can't cope with the banality of his old life. Brothers is the most recent of the three films, and perhaps the most mainstream. Based on a 2004 Danish movie by Susanne Bier and directed by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot), it stars Tobey Maguire as a Marine named Sam who leaves home for Afghanistan just as his brother, Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal), returns home from jail. Sam's wife, Grace (Natalie Portman), and their kids (the excellent Bailee Madison and Taylor Geare) find themselves torn between the two men: hating the father who comes back completely changed, loving the ex-con who stayed with them. The film's most powerful scene is actually set at a child's birthday party, where one of the girls won't stop rubbing a balloon to make a screeching sound. To most parents it's an everyday annoyance. To Sam the noise sounds like gunfire and serves as a reminder of how he can no longer relate to his family's happiness. It's a metaphor for his fragile psyche.Portman has some of the most difficult scenes, and this is her most accomplished work since Closer. But Brothers is Maguire's movie. So gaunt that he almost looks like a ghost, he bites into his character like a rabid dog. Brothers shows us that even when our troops do come home, their war may be far from over.

But Brothers is Maguire's movie.

This is from Metro:Canada

For Sheridan it was his first remake and as such a project that he walked into somewhat trepidatiously.

“I wasn’t consciously trying to make my movie different,” Sheridan says. “I was only trying to answer questions in the original movie that were interesting to me.”

Jim Sheridan’s version of the film is — typical of his work — more family-oriented, focusing on how surviving a painful and spiritually challenging POW experience could change a soldier to the extent that his family can barely recognize him when he returns home. Tobey Maguire in a creative casting choice that works simply because audiences would never anticipate that Maguire would go through such brutal psychological changes. It was a casting decision made specifically by Sheridan to play with audience expectations. “That’s why we cast Tobey, so that no one would expect it,” revealed Sheridan.

That casting approach was also applied to the role of Maguire’s ex-con brother who is surprisingly played by the typically gentle Jake Gyllenhaal. “Jake is often thought of as the lovable centre-of-attention character,” said Sheridan.

“I found it interesting to cast him as the edgy ex-con just to play with that image.”

Well, waiting for my mom & aunt to get up. I must admit, I did not wake on my own. My alarm woke me up. It's crazy to know that there are people out there right now who have been at it for almost 1 1/2 hrs now. Man.

You know, I really do want to see Brothers. But I know there can't be a happy ending to it either. heavy sigh.

There is a Corgi dog who is sort of famous down here in Wichita. Her name is Millie and she belongs to a local TV station's weatherman. My brother & sister in law are always talking about her and my brother got to meet her @ the State fair this past summer. We finally got to see her last night on the news. LOLLL! She sits at the front desk with all the other anchors. And she got this big zoom, close up shot at the closing credits of the news. Not of the other anchors, but of Millie, the dog. My brother says she gets alot of fan mail and that one of the other anchors called her a "phenomenon". lol. She's adorable. I got to hold a baby corgi last weekend at the lake at a pet store. She was soooooo cute.

Hark!! I think I hear noises down the hall. Things may finally be happening.

Happy shopping to anyone who is going to brave the madness that is Black Friday.

Back from shopping! Round 1, anyway. People buying $3.99 pillows from Penneys by the handfuls, lol! Clutching 4-5 pillows in their hands and trying to squeeze around them in the aisles was a challenge sometimes.

We gave up at K Mart - their lines were horrendous. We walked in, took one look, and turned right around back out. Penneys had all their registers going everywhere plus they had floaters wandering around if you had a question or needed help. Target had $3.99 dvd's.

We'll be heading back out a little later to take the kids out. My niece likes to shop and she wanted to go this morning but of course, it was way too early for her.
And I don't know what I was talking about Neb. Furniture Mart. That's back home. They don't have one of those here. lol.

Breakfast @ IHOP where they had pumpkin pancakes. Boy, were they good.

Destiny, how did your Thanksgiving go at your place?

Rhiahnna is doing SNL on that weekend they were rumoring Jake to do it. Riahanna is hot right now. She's everywhere.

And I have lost more liking/respect for ABC. They replace Adam Lambert on GMA with Chris Brown. They replace Adam, who kissed another guy on TV with someone who beat his girlfriend black & blue. Now that just makes a heckuva lot of sense, doesn't it?

I may have to email ABC about this and also that Parents Television Council and ask them if they're happy now? Unbelievable.

I want to ask the PTC if they're campaigning half as hard about other shows & storylines that are on during the so-called family hour as well as hatchetjobbing Adam's television appearance.

I do think Adam may have pushed the envelope too much from what I have read. I haven't seen it, honestly, because they've pulled the vid from YouTube at the request of Dick Clark Productions. But I can't believe it could be as detrimental as the weed-stoked brownies storyline on OTH which I am still very displeased about.
